FALLEN ANGELS — Dean (Jensen Ackles) is frantic after Sam (Jared Padalecki) collapses and the doctor tells Dean his brother won’t make it. Desperate, Dean sends out an all points bulletin via prayer to every angel in the area, asking them to help his brother. In exchange, Dean will owe that angel a favor. Numerous angry angels race to find and kill Dean, but one, Ezekiel (guest star Tahmoh Penikett), gets to him first. Meanwhile, Sam fights for his life and must face some familiar demons to do so. Castiel (Misha Collins) struggles to survive without powers. John Showalter directed the episode written by Jeremy Carver (#902).

ReplyDeleteIt was what I thought would happen, except for the way Dean would do the deal. That was risky for Dean but it'll explain all those symbols in the room so he was smart about it. I wonder what the deal would be if Ezekiel decides to do one?. Would it be letting Crowley go? Dean surrending himself to the angels? or he have to face a hell kind of place?.
ReplyDeleteWould Sam go to purgotory or like it again to find Death?, it will be interesting how this plays out. I hope Bobby is real and not a memory. I wonder what familiar demons?, would Abaddon be one?.
Castiel and no powers..I think he will be fine anyway maybe with that other angel, I still think she will come out nice for some reason.
maybe by "demons" they were meaning metaphorical demons...As in his own personal issues.Could go either way.

Temptations...Hm,interesting!He could be tempted with the chance of letting go and finally finding peace in Heaven or reuniting with his lost loved ones.Well,Heaven is not the perfect place to be right now but you know what I mean :P

ReplyDeleteIn any case, this begs the question "why is Ezekiel helping them and what does he want in return?"
I'm not up on all things Supernatural since, after last season, I needed a break. Can someone explain to me how, if all the angels have fallen (kicked out, really) like Anna did, how could they possibly help Dean? They shouldn't have any powers and shouldn't be much of a threat either.

ReplyDeleteWhen Cas was kicked out, at the beginning of Season 5, he still had powers that faded over time. He wasn't able to heal Bobby, to be sure, but perhaps some of these other angels are more powerful and have more 'juice'. Just sayin'...

ReplyDeleteThey've already said that while they won't have their wings or be able to teleport - which makes sense so that they don't have a way to get back into heaven. However, they will still have angelic powers - which they may use for good or not so good...
ReplyDeleteHA! This is EXACTLY what I thought would happen. I used to be able to tell what Kripke would do, so this makes me hopeful for season 9. I'm not saying he always did what I wanted him to, but he always left a good trail of breadcrumbs to show you where he was going...
ReplyDeleteIf that's the case, then I already have a problem with this. This will make 3 separate versions of a fallen / expelled angels.
ReplyDeleteIt's not exactly a retcon because when the angels fell they still retain their grace. Unlike Anna who ripped hers out before she fell. From what Carver has said the fallen angels still have some power but that it's limited. How limited remains to be seen. I do know that they've confirmed that they can't teleport but beyond that I'm really not sure what they're going to be capable of doing.

ReplyDeleteI wonder if they're going to drag Jess out for this one? How interesting would that be? Or hell, even Mary. Tempting him with departed loved ones to get him to cross over and that's why Dean is so mad at him for even thinking about it.
ReplyDeleteTo each his own, but when I find a show irritates me as much as SPN seems to irritate you, I stop watching... Anna gave up her grace and fell - Cas had his grace taken away and will be powerless the way she was. Lucifer was expelled and locked in Heaven. The angels this season were cast out by the use of a spell by Metatron. Three different circumstances... I guess I just feel like there's a clear justification for the "different rules"...
ReplyDeleteYeah agreed. Carver has dropped the ball on canon a couple of times now so it's normal to be wary of things like this. I kind of just assumed that since they're cut off from Heaven that their powers will kind of be like Castiel's in season 5 when he was cut off. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
ReplyDeleteSo he gives Ezekiel a blank check. Scary. There is so much Ezekiel could ask for -- the LEAST of which would be something like killing Dean. Nope... this is going to be a game changer. I hope Exekiel is wise.
ReplyDeleteLooks like we were right about Dean's prayers in the Chapel being what sets off the Angel attack in the hospital corridor. Pissed off Angels + Winchester's Prayers = Glass Flying Everywhere. I wonder what Ezekiel is going to want in exchange for helping Sam. And how exactly is he going to be able to help him, since Castiel said he was damaged in ways even he couldn't help while he was doing the trials? God, this is killing me not knowing.

ReplyDeleteYou're making a very large and very faulty assumption from my aversion toward one micro-aspect of a show that spans eight whole seasons. Disagreeing with or disapproving of an aspect of a television show isn't indicative of any dissatisfaction of the program as a whole and I see nothing wrong with holding a show accountable for what I perceive as its faults or shortcomings, even if what I perceive isn't universally agreed upon by everyone.

ReplyDeleteYeah. I don't watch anything else on the CW so I have no idea what starts when on that network lol. They do look like they're trying to get better shows lately though. I might have to check out Mark Pellegrino's new show just to see if it's any good.
ReplyDeleteAs Louise mentioned in a post above, the longer these angels are away from Heaven the more all of their abilities should weaken. If they wish to maintain any semblance of consistency, it had better be the same for all the other angels this time around.
ReplyDeleteNot necessarily. Castiel was cast out by other angels as a punishment. The angels fell because the gate of Heaven closed. As they said, nobody knew what would happen if one or the other gate closed. Rules changed completely. There is no Heaven anymore. And not even all the fallen angels are the same, some were bureaucrats like Naomi, but some were warrior angels like Ezekiel, different power levels. Some could be basically humans, some could be the next Superman.

ReplyDeleteI'm just wondering, where is Jesus in Supernatural? Maybe he doesn't exists in the show's mythology? Have they mentioned him? I think it would be cool if he appeared as a very powerful and friendly character.
ReplyDeleteThere was a brief mention of Him by Eve in season 6. She claimed that He was "just a man" to some bible thumping truck driver guy who was more interested in getting her right with the Lord than getting it on with her. Other than that I don't think they ever have discussed Jesus on the show. I honestly think they don't want to even touch the subject with a ten foot pole because of potential backlash.

ReplyDeleteBeen a fan since Season one. I promised myself that if the writers screw up the relationship between these brothers again I am heading for the door. This is not General Hospital or Days of Our Lives its Supernatural!!! Goodness knows we have had the drama played out season after season. Finally after the boys learned they were men of letters and found their bat cave I said GREAT now we can move past all the angst of soapdom and get back to the HUNT! Season 9 don't fail me. I know that there are plenty of fans that feel the same way. They are the men NOW!

ReplyDeleteThe angels, apart from Castiel, have never "liked" Dean or Sam. They saw them as pawns in the Great Plan that was the Apocalypse. A plan which they (and, later, Castiel), ultimately rebelled against. The three of them have the blood of a lot of angels on their hands from that, alone, including locking up Michael and Lucifer for good.
ReplyDeleteAfter that, during the Civil War between Raphael and Castiel, Raphael and his followers hated the Winchesters for stopping the Apocalypse, and Castiel's friends were also cold to the Winchesters because, again, they didn't give a shit about them and because they felt that they were taking advantage of Castiel. Even after the incident with Godstiel and the Leviathan, when the angels felt betrayed by Cas, they still hated the Winchesters since they partly blamed them (and especially Dean) for "corrupting" Castiel in the first place (as we actively saw with Hester).
