Sleepy Hollow - 1.01 - Pilot - Best Scene Poll

19 Sept 2013

Hi Sleepy Hollow fans, SpoilerTV is once again doing weekly best scene polls for certain shows, and since Sleepy Hollow is the first show to premiere I thought I'd explain them briefly. Basically we will have between 10-12 choices for best scene for each new episode. One of those will always be Other, so if your favorite isn't a choice please mention it in the comments. You will only get one vote but unlike the Best Show contest, there is no time limit for voting. The best way to make these polls fun is for everyone to share in the comments and keep the conversation going. So until next week, happy voting!

***Occasionally I may throw in a bonus poll too. In honor of the premiere, here were some great quotes of the night. What was your favorite?

  1. I thought the pilot was excellent except for some historical inaccuracies. It had a fast-moving plot and good character interaction, something that is rare in a pilot. Therefore it was hard to narrow it down to just 11 scenes. I'm sorry if your favorite did not make the cut. For me, I vacillated between Ichabod's lie detector test and the big shock when Officer Andy finds the horseman in his apartment. As for the quotes, I chose the mental institution line because Ichabod's dead pan response was pitch perfect. All in all, a lot of scenes and quotes to love in the inaugural episode.

  2. The pilot was awesome, it was funny, witty, creepy and interesting but what's most important was that it makes we want to see next weeks episode

  3. not really sure if there was a particular moment that stood out for me, but as for a quote, I voted for "Other", as I got a kick out of 2 responding deputies who gave the line to the HH (something to the effect of), "Put the weapon down and turn around and put your hands on your...........head..... Do you think he can hear us?"

  4. Absolutely! In fact I am even more excited to see the second episode than I was to see the pilot and it was the one I was most anticipating.

  5. I debated back and forth whether to put that one in. It was well-received by many.

  6. The entire scene with Crane and the lie-detector.

  7. I liked that line too

There's something about a headless assassin with no eyes or ears having marksman accuracy with his weapons and superhuman hearing that I find amusing! XD

  8. I liked most of the dialog so few lines really stoof out above the others to me...
However, I loved the Starbucks line and the hands on your head line even though I had already seen them in promos...

  9. The best scene for me was definitely Ichabod playing with the car window.

  10. LOL THIS is how to do a quote poll. This way they'll be fresh in my mind. :-D

The single choices are killing me!

Favorite scene: The lie detector test. I loved Icabod's reaction to the bizarreness around him. And the guy giving the test seemed to be handling everything with the same aplomb that Icabod was handling all the weird crap around him...right up until he was told the year.

I had bunches of favorite quotes but I picked "..beheading was the next logical step..." I have been saying for years... if you shoot someone/something and it gets back up...cut off its head. That usually works (except when you're on a show that features a Headless Horseman. :-)

My runners up are Abbie: "Wait, back up. You're offended?" and Abbie: "I told you to stay in the car." Ichabod: "Yet as you know, I'm insane and therefore impervious to simple commands."

  11. I'm not quite sure about the scene, but i definitely loved this quote: ""Yet as you know, I'm insane and therefore impervious to simple commands."
Thanks for the polls, Dahne :)

  12. LOL Historical inaccuracies. Scmistorical in.... (never mind that's not gonna work.) I've been writing computer software (started my career in the '80s on super computers) for years. I learned YEARS ago that accuracy and filmed stories are things that aren't required to be the same. The only important thing is that once they set up the rules within the bounds of the story.

Thanks for putting this one together. It's really fun to have both the scene and quote polls right after airing. :-)

  13. I loved that one too. It made me laugh because when I first got my sunroof, I played with it like that too.

  14. Had a hard time choosing - I really loved the lie detector test :)

  15. Tank you, I love that you added quotes!

  16. I'm so happy your doing this,i can finally join in! I liked the scene when Ichabod is taking the lie detector test. The way he answered the questions given, and the expression on the test givers face.

So many good quotes in this episode,i'll go with: "I have orders to take you to a mental institution." Ichabod:"Excellent. This day continues to bear gifts."

I didn't think much of this show before the pilot, but i have to say i fell in love with this show.God i hope it doesn't let me down over the next few weeks!

And the Starbucks quote was priceless,ha! Thanks for doing this Dahne,i look forward to next week!!!

  17. Awesome for doing this Dahne!

    My favorite is:

Abbey:I told you to stay in the car."
Ichabod: "Yet as you know, I'm insane and therefore impervious to simple commands."

But I also really loved the Starbucks comments too! <3

The lines remind me of either Monty Python or Pirates of Caribbean, because you really have to be paying attention to get some of the jokes, making it smart comedy.

  18. I loved the whole episode there were no bad scenes. I loved the quip about Starbucks taking over the town.

  19. There were so many great moments, hard to pick just one but I went with Abbie discovering Corbin's secret files. I liked how much that little montage releaved.
Favorite quote: "A bird led you here? That's great!" - Abbie
The way she looked and said it was just hilarious.

  20. I loved all the scenes. It was hard to choose which one i liked the best, But i went with the lie detector test. That was great The next would've been the demon in the mirror. As for the lines. Oh man even though i loved the starbucks scene, i had to go with the As you know i'm insane line, I laughed so hard at that when he said it.

  21. Normally I would say yes but they made such a big deal out of the witchcraft stuff and it would take so little effort to get their info straight that it really bugged me. Since that is my only real nitpick, I'd say the show did very well overall.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Me too. The reactions from both characters were spot on and the dialogue was witty.

    ReplyDelete
  23. It surprised me how clever much of the dialogue was. A real high point in the episode.

    ReplyDelete
  24. The Starbucks line was another favorite for me. However I found the "hands on your head" one to be the rare case of the writers going over the top.

    ReplyDelete
  25. The beheading line was the one I picked for the tagline of the podcast. I didn't deliver it well though so I am hoping the next episode will give us a good one.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I am going to have a hard time picking my favorite scene from this episode for your scene of the week article. It's one of those times I wish I could pick 2 or 3. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Glad you like it. I am a quotes person so many times they stick out most to me. Since people seem to like it, I will try to add them periodically.

    ReplyDelete
  28. So glad you ended up liking it. This is the pilot I was most looking forward to and I am glad it lived up to expectations. I too hope that it continues to be strong as the season progresses. I am on the hunt for a new favorite show and right now this one is leading the pack.

  29. That scene was in my second pass at this poll and would definitely have been in if I could have added more choices. It was more difficult than usual to limit to 11 choices in this episode. Sign of a good pilot.

    ReplyDelete
  30. There were a couple scenes I did not care for but they were short and surrounded by so much awesome that it hardly mattered. One of the best pilots that I have seen. Usually pilots are awkward and the character interaction is iffy. They nailed this pilot cold.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I not only liked how that scene did away with half a season of exposition in a very clever and quick manner, but I also really want one of those descending files. It was really cool.

    ReplyDelete
  32. It seems like these were the most popular all the way around. I also love these, especially the insane line. Great delivery on it.

  33. I re-watched last night --- I will be so happy when the rest of the tv season starts. I'd only listened to the scene where she's going through her mentor's stuff I hand *seen* the stuff she found.

Anyway, my friend left the ep certain that they'd claimed that witches were burned at the stake between 1712 and 1816. He didn't say they were burned just put to death. Which is just vague enough to cover the writers back sides. Plus, given this is a universe in which the witches are real of course their history is going to be different from reality. I don't know why I'm rambling *here* about this. I need to email my friend. She was being a snit about it.
:-D Actually, I know why, she's on the East Coast and 3 hours asleep...so I can't rant at her. Besides we're allowed to endlessly and friendlyly rant on spoiler tv.

  34. I just caught this show and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I've always found pilots to be the roughest episodes of series as the writers/cast work out the chemistry and mythology and rhythm of the show. But this pilot was awesome. My only concern: at what point does it make national news that 3 people have been decapitated in Sleepy Hollow by a headless horseman (especially with one victim being a cop and another being a priest). I just wonder how the series can sustain the rest of the world not figuring out what's going on in this little town. Still...I'm in!

  35. By the way, the Pan-like demon in the mirror scared the living sh!t out of me. I actually jumped!

    ReplyDelete
  36. The Starbucks exchange was hilarious and the ending with the demon in the mirror really creeped me out. Another part that I liked was when Abby taunted him about the civil war not waking him up and the fact that he never woke up to pee. "I don't know about you but I'm getting up to pee every 75 to 80 years". A lot of great deliveries.
