Oh my God, I loved it! I cannot wait for next week and am definitely going to keep watching.
I loved their take on this story and I'm already shipping Abbie/Ichabod. Oops. And Abbie keeps giving me Harper's Island feels because I keep thinking about Abby Mills.
Such an interesting show and I'm excited for what's next.
I really liked it. I loved the history and the rich mythology they've thrown into just the first ep. I liked the cast, too. I'm really looking forward to more eps.
Wow, I was definitely intrigued throughout the whole hour. Ichabod and Abbie work very well together and I'm also starting to ship them. This season looks very interesting with the different kinds of demons Ichabod and Abbie will have to face and I can't wait for it! Also, I love how the show also incorporates humor along with the dark aspect. That really made me love the show even more. Overall, it was pretty awesome.
AMAZING! One of the best pilot I've ever seen, not kidding. There's so many shows I just LOVE to death (or close) but who started slow, took some time to adjust and find their place...but this one? WOW! Right out of the gate right?
It was actually better than I thought it would be. I wasn't gonna watch it but I was bored, and can see it lasting for at least a little while due to Halloween being close, however I'm not sure if It could last for all that long, given the storyline and think it would have been better as a mini series.
I loved it....Abbie and Ichabod will kick some demons' azzz good pairing a man and a woman, they will probably ship them later on since they have great chemistry tho.....love it cant wait to see the pilot again...
That was certainly good enough to get me interested, it had some problems but with the crazyness of the mythology it seems like it'll be alot of fun! Really can't wait to see where it goes, I hope it does well.
I thoroughly enjoyed Sleepy Hollow and look forward to next week. I was shocked that they gave us so many answers right from the start but I really applaud that. It feels like the story is going to move on well and I love the idea of the horsemen bringing other supernatural baddies with him because the horseman alone would get stale after awhile. Best though was the great mix of snark and action. The two leads play well off of each other, but I hope that the writers stay away from Tumblr and the inevitable shipping mess that comes from it. I'd love for shipping to stay out of at least some of my shows, since it kills so many of them for me.
I think they have given themselves a lot of options by tying in such a rich mytharc already. It will be intriguing to see where this one goes. The pilot also shocked me multiple times, which is rare and a good sign.
I too was impressed by the pilot and I rarely am. The last one that I enjoyed this much was Teen Wolf (don't laugh because it was awesome). They raced through the mythology giving us a solid foundation in one episode where it would take most genre shows at least 6 episodes if not the entire series run to get this far. I like that because the episode never dragged for me.
I like a lot of sci fi and fantasy shows, so this one was right up my alley. Still it was far better than most pilots and I will be rewatching it again tonight. Very well done pilot and I highly suggest giving it a try.
I agree, I haven't been this excited for a serialized fantasy since Teen Wolf is well, glad you liked the pilot I was wondering if you would. There were several instances where I was "omg that's so cool!" I'm hoping tomorrow we'll have good news on the ratings
I loved it! I'm sold. Idk the actor, but i sure will get to know him now. I thought he was great as Ichabod Crane. He had him down to a T. He was smart, funny, very enjoyable to watch. I enjoyed having Orlando Jones and John Cho in it. Did not think he would die so soon. I thought the cast had really good chemistry, I loved the mystery, good action, but of course not so much b/c this is the pilot after all. Can't hand us all their tricks in one basket. I like the story line, I will definitely keep watching this. Part that made me LOL the most..."Put your hands on your hea...." What the hell is that?" Do you think he can hear us?" "How the hell should i know?" Hahahahaha....One more thing i must add. I don't want to sound cliche, however, I think the actor, could be a very handsome man. Give him a shower, a nice clean shave, and some new clothes!! What do you think Armani? lol We might have something here.
I'm nervous about the ratings as well. I had a few people on my Twitter feed say they forgot it was on tonight. That's the disadvantage of being the first show to air in the season. Here's hoping that Friday's rerun will score well as people hear the buzz from those who watched it. So far I am hearing mostly positive things.
I think because they are incorporating other supernatural beings instead of just the horseman, it has a fair shot of sticking around for awhile. They will have to walk a fine line with the mytharc though since that could become overwhelming quickly.
Outstanding start that gave us introduction to the mythology, characters, and set ups for the season to come in bunches.. if I had to nitpcik, I felt the pacing was a bit too fast at first as I would've enjoyed seeing Ichabod's reactions to everything he was seeing in the modern world a bit more as the fish out of water is always satisfying and surprising that he wouldn't have automatically thought that it was all magic - but the writers wasted no time in getting into the story and it was very satisfying setting the stage of the battle between the followers of the 2 covens and between good and evil as well. I am curious with all the "case files" that the former sheriff had will end up being for the lack of a better term the "X files/Fringe cases" that Abbie/IC will investigate. I was hoping that John Cho would be at least a recurring character, but he wont... great start but I do wonder if IC will eventually update his wardrobe, even though he looks sharp, he just stands out a bit too much. Good chemistry between the leads and I like the bits of humor sprinkled throughout... definitely on the rotation for me
Hahaha i'm glad you said it first. I wasn't gonna say anything, kinda seeing myself shipping them also. Whaddaya think,,,,,Abbiebod?? Ichabbie?? Ababod?? LMAO it's a work in progress. We'll figure out something.
We'll just have to wait and see. Teen Wolf is doing okay with the ratings and I still have friends that refuse to watch it because they don't like the name of the show. They don't believe me that it's good. We'll get a better feel for the ratings at least by ep three.
There was so much to love about this. I don't know if I can list everything. But... wanted to say, Tom Mison and Nicole Baharie have incredibly crazy chemistry, they instantly clicked in a way I don't think ANY show of this format can compare to (and yes I'm being so bold to include The X-Files and Supernatural) except maybe Haven. They just genuinely seem to connect and THAT made it much more believable that they are "witnesses" to the Apocalypse.
Also, the camera-work and directing was absolutely gorgeous and artful, I liked and appreciated that a lot. The interviews weren't lying when they said this show felt cinematic. It truly does. Never paid attention to the directing in the few Len Wiseman movies I've seen but I'm going to watch them now just for that.
The tone was nearly perfect, my only complaint was that being so fast-paced there was no room for real tension or scares, but as a purely supernatural adventure it works. The humor is actually very funny and I think Tom Mison delivers Ichabod's funny lines believably. Also, the show takes itself seriously enough yet DOESN'T take itself seriously in perfect balance. The show's premise is ridiculous yet they used the humor cleverly enough where I feel anyone open to fantasy premises could accept and enjoy it.
I was particularly intrigued during the scene Abbie is viewing Corbin's cabinet of secret x-files, and I realllllllllllllllllllllly hope that upcoming episodes will give us information on some of these cases even if they aren't important to that week's plot, or at the very least FOX will give us more viral YouTube clips about them.
Overall I was *NOT* disappointed, any people who regularly read comments here regarding Sleepy Hollow probably know I've been super stoked about this. Usually that leads to disappointment, at least a little, but in this case I got everything I was expecting. One of the BEST pilots of this genre in a very, very, VERY long time, and it's a perfect mish-mash of the elements I love, and if it continues in this pattern it will be my favorite show, because nearly everything about it makes it seem like someone read a list of what I wanted out of a show and somehow managed to do it. I will be devastated if this gets canceled too soon.
Sleepy Hollow's premiere was a great opening to the fall season. I'm already looking forward to next Monday. I'd say more, but it appears the first 28 posters beat me to it; except this..........as wild as this will sound could Tom Mison, Nicole Baharie, and this series (production/screenwriters) be early contenders for a "Emmy" nod? I know genre series rarely get them (Emmy's nods) and win even fewer, but after the premiere I'm going out on that limb........who's going out with me? 4 A RIDE THAT WILL LEAVE YOU HEADLESS, I am Nobody!!!
Amen to that. It seems that nowadays ratings are a kind of self-fullfilling prophecy. Unless a show starts on a high, people are scared to get into it for fear it's going to be canceled on them. Let's hope this pilot creates enough of a buzz to draw the audience in.
It was really really good love it! In the future, i hope FOX doesn't do something stupid! & i think my Monday's just got better first Bones (their episode was really good too hope it stays that way) and then Sleepy Hollow. IMO, both of the shows should stay on Monday and Almost Human must be with The Following.
The chemistry between the leads was good (sometimes not seen in pilots) and the story was strong and capable of driving the season forward. The Fantasy or ScFi aspect was kept in check and enhanced the story instead of overtaking it like some SciFi shows. I also liked the limited VFX. They were strong, but not over-done to stand out as too obvious or two unrealistic. They were not the center of the episode, just there enough to advance the story as it should be.
I do wonder if the bug-eyed police captain will evolve into a multi-dimensional character from his generic cardboard cutout in the pilot, but pilots often have some generic roles that will eventually become dynamic and original.
Great start to the new Fall Season!
ETA: Found a handful of new (to me) cast photos for the series.
I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would, good leads who can actually act but not sure if I will stay the course with the show. I guess it all depends on how silly it becomes or whether they make it too focused on the inevitable will they won't they between Ichabod and Abbie - not one of my favourite tropes.
I liked it more than I thought I would. The two leads have great chemistry and I can't wait to see more of their bantering. I'm surprised that so many are worried the show might push towards Ichabod/Abbie as a couple. The fact that Katrina still lives on in some kind of afterlife eliminated that possibility for me. The pilot did a great job at giving us an outline of the mythology and what the show will be about. I didn't expect them to reaveal this much just after one episode, so I was pleasantly surprised about that. Overall, really good Pilot and I'll definitely keep tuning in.
I love the Horseman's design, costume, and the way the actor moves.
The chemistry between Abby and Ichabod is terrific. I also really enjoyed their performances.
The one bummer was knowing, just by virtue of their casting that Clancy Brown and John Cho's characters were not going to survie the pilot. They are a couple of my favorite actors.
Loved that the Horseman was totally willing to do a 21st century upgrade to his arsenal. Also, loved Ichabod's reaction to the century. The one comment I was expecting and didn't get...was the improvement in mental hospitals in 250 years.
They mythology was quite intriguing as well. Definitely back week after week for me.
I couldn't agree with you more regarding the "shipping mess" I thought they did a great job of setting up, what looks to be, a very rich mythology. Though one of my friends couldn't resist yanking my chain about the historical accuracy of the idea of witches being burned at the stake. I pointed out that this is fiction...historical accuracy is not required. :-D
Ha! My sympathies are for your friend. Beyond the burning nonsense, I also pointed out that killing witches ended in America in the 1600's. People were certainly not doing it in the 1800's.
Maybe Sleepy Hollow was behind the times a couple centuries. Who knows with the situation they had, like real demons and witches being around, who's to say if it were real people wouldn't revert to old customs in one crazy town.
Ha, I loved it and kept thinking of Supernatural's 4 horsemen, glad to see more supernatural stuff getting on network stations. This has started out as a keeper for me.
I was not sure about this show, but like you I am looking forward to next week, much better than I was expecting.. Had to go back and see if David Nutter had directed, he can usually get me hooked.
AMAZZZING! The casting and characterization is Ichabod (sp?) was amazing! He is so charming and funny. Can't wait, heres hoping this show has some serious longevity, the writers are amazing and have laid some good groundwork on a lot of different avenues they can take this show
With the right friends............you wait for nothing! The pilot was "Awesome" by the way, you won't be disappointed! 4 A RIDE THAT WILL LEAVE YOU HEADLESS, I am Nobody!!!
I didn't watch/read any spoilers so I really didn't know what to expect. I freaking loved it! I love the history/religion/legend plot. Can't wait for next week.
I am so glad you tried Teen Wolf. It took me a year of people suggesting it to me before I decided to try it and I am so glad that I did. I raced through 2 seasons and was able to see this season as it airs. The title sucks and the network didn't help encourage me to try it, but it ended up being a thoroughly addicting show with the fastest paced plot on air and characters I actually care about. Teen Wolf is a great example of the proverb, "Never judge a show by its network."
Ha! Perhaps like me they no longer watch Bones and therefore missed the shout out. I love that they wrote it in though and Jack is the perfect character to do so.
LOL That sound so bad!! It sounds more like an insult...think about it..."crabs" lol it doesn't work, let's keep trying. (Not that mine were any better, lol)
This show is not for me. I don't see how it can remain interesting for long (even though the first ep didn't interest me at all). I'm all for mythological shows but I want them to be convincing enough that I forget that it's far from reality. This show had me rolling my eyes and shaking my head not far into it. Sorry. :(
The show promoted a headless horseman, it doesn't get more farther from reality that that. Lol why not give it one more chance? For me personally, when a new series premieres and I don't get pulled in by the pilot, I give it to the 3rd ep. If i'm STILL not convinced by then. it is NOT for me...i say watch the 2nd ep and see if u change ur mind. : )
Loved it! Really great execution and nice cinematography! A lot of mythology early on! Way to go Kurtzman, Orci, Wiseman, and Iscove. (Love seeing 2 Bad Robot alumni get brutally killed!). It was fun! Can't wait till next week's!
I'm VERY impressed with Kurtzman and Orci and their team up with Iscove and Wiseman! I always thought they had potential, because of what they worked on with J.J. Abrams and I liked the small film "People Like Us", and besides some execution problems, I thought their adaptation of comic "Cowboys and Aliens" did a good job in terms of cast and genre blending. Hawaii Five -O I like, but it doesn't have the mythos or heavy serialization I like that tends to keep me more engaged, so it's nice to see them take on something like this! :)
Have you never seen Tim Burton's. Disney's, or read the book? It's all supernatural phenomenon with witch craft. By placing part of it in modern day and with a Biblical/Ancient Myth context, we get something both comical and philosophically out of the box with this interpretation.
The series I think is meant to fun, as we surely have to suspend disbelief, (which is in line with what some of the characters think - making the ridiculousness very relatable).
But If you don't like any fantasy, then you're right. It's probably not for you, but IMO fantasy only tends to enhance the human condition, when used effectively by exposing identity and challenging beliefs/reality.
From what i read its not the last time we'll be seeing Sulu, yay!
So it happened!...the thing i never thought could happen again,i fell in love with a show! This show! I haven't been this excited since Fringe!! Can't wait till next week!
Oh, really?! That's great! It's always nice to see Cho and his character is linked to something pretty important, but I had thought he was only guess staring for The Pilot!
The filming style (the cameras/the lighting) reminded me of FRINGE a great deal, which is pretty neat! I liked how they launched a lot of mythology straight away so that fans of other versions can see how it will be different and expand!
I'm pretty sure it was in TVLine where i read about Cho...
Yes,that is one of the things i liked about it,they didn't take x amount of episodes before the mythology was introduced. Here, they dove right in! The lighting reminded me of the early X-Files..
Great pilot! This show is starting out pretty strong, with good acting and casting, writing was solid, and directing was tight. I liked how they kept it light and humorous, despite the dark content. That last scene, when the ram-head demon attacked the mirror, practically gave me a heart attack! I liked the acting chemistry between Ichabod and Abbie a lot, and look forward to their deepening partnership and friendship. Hopefully, they keep up this level of writing, if not the action, for the upcoming episodes. I'm very interested in seeing more, and wonder how they plan to map out the rest of the series, or at least this season.
Thinking we will almost certainly get a lot of Free Mason symbolism and mythology on the series.
Already had 3 recurring symbols in the pilot. The 8-pointed Chaos symbol on the Horseman's casket and the back of his head, (also his wrist marking looks like 1/8 of the chaos symbol),. Then we had the all seeing eye shown on the dollar bill and the back of a headstone in the church cemetery. Lastly, the bible was marked with the Gnostic Octagram of Creation.
I really like playing off the 4 Horseman with the Chaos symbol and the good witches coven with the Gnostic symbol of balance.. Nice symmetry.
I posted caps on the James Frain casting post if you missed them during the episode or just wanna look at things more closely. :)
Ugh, you lost me at Twilight....Good give it another go. The second episode looks better anyway. Hopefully u'll be a part of the ratings for next Monday. The premiere gathered 10 million viewers!! Woot woot!!
10 million viewers..........YES! That's "Under the Dome" like ratings. I figured the ratings would be high, but "Grand Slam" for the pilot! Now the writers have to put the talent to work (challenge them with the material) and keep the ratings high going. 4 A RIDE THAT WILL LEAVE YOU HEADLESS, I remain Nobody!!!
I adored it. Way more than I expected. I was excited for the show but it was not even one of those I was looking forward the most, but wow. Really awesome pilot, a lof of potential, awesome leads, awesome characters and chemistry, incredible mythology. I will be there FOR SURE!
I really enjoyed it ... I've heard it's going to get scarier and I for one can't wait. Right now, only The Walking Dead make me jump out of my seat and I kind of miss the adrenaline. The River did that to me too but I'm hoping this will end better. I should also point out that Ichabod has a seriously sexified accent ... loving it.
Cool! I was wondering if anyone had started making notes with all the symbols and stuff I'll check those photos out! I noticed the Eye of Providence marked on a rock near the church I think (or as you say the head stone!) and made the association with the Dollar bill too (Reminds me of "The Lost Symbol" all the sudden)
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Oh my God, I loved it! I cannot wait for next week and am definitely going to keep watching.

ReplyDeleteJudging by the responses on here, I may have to watch the pilot!

ReplyDeleteOne of the better premieres in a good while.

ReplyDeleteWell. I'm hooked!
ReplyDeleteI love the Horseman's design, costume, and the way the actor moves.
ReplyDeleteWow, it exceeded my expectations by a lot.
ReplyDeleteI loved it. Had fun. I can't wait for next week! :D
ReplyDeleteIt is far more interesting that I thought it would be.
ReplyDeleteWhat I love is the way Ichabod is portrayed and the way new technology is baffling to him. He doesn't immediately figure out how to use stuff.
Like the flashlight at start he actually put his finger to the beam to see if it's hot. Nice little detail.
Ha! My sympathies are for your friend. Beyond the burning nonsense, I also pointed out that killing witches ended in America in the 1600's. People were certainly not doing it in the 1800's.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Sleepy Hollow was behind the times a couple centuries. Who knows with the situation they had, like real demons and witches being around, who's to say if it were real people wouldn't revert to old customs in one crazy town.
ReplyDeleteLoved it. The leads are engaging and the story feels like it has legs. Here's hoping Fox gives it a proper chance.
ReplyDeleteHa, I loved it and kept thinking of Supernatural's 4 horsemen, glad to see more supernatural stuff getting on network stations. This has started out as a keeper for me.
ReplyDeleteI was not sure about this show, but like you I am looking forward to next week, much better than I was expecting.. Had to go back and see if David Nutter had directed, he can usually get me hooked.
ReplyDeleteloved it deserves its ratings success hope it sticks around for 7 years
ReplyDeleteLooks like we didn't have to worry too much.
ReplyDeleteNew to me too, I love those.
ReplyDeleteNo kidding! It was a wonderful shock to see it hit 3.5. That was far better than I hoped much less expected.
ReplyDeleteAMAZZZING! The casting and characterization is Ichabod (sp?) was amazing! He is so charming and funny. Can't wait, heres hoping this show has some serious longevity, the writers are amazing and have laid some good groundwork on a lot of different avenues they can take this show
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen the episode and i voted awesome lol i can't freaking wait, i'm not american so i have to wait one week
ReplyDeleteWith the right friends............you wait for nothing! The pilot was "Awesome" by the way, you won't be disappointed! 4 A RIDE THAT WILL LEAVE YOU HEADLESS, I am Nobody!!!
ReplyDeleteHow could they forget when Hodgins from Bones remained them lol
ReplyDeleteI didn't watch/read any spoilers so I really didn't know what to expect. I freaking loved it! I love the history/religion/legend plot. Can't wait for next week.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you tried Teen Wolf.
ReplyDeleteHa! Perhaps like me they no longer watch Bones and therefore missed the shout out. I love that they wrote it in though and Jack is the perfect character to do so.
ReplyDeleteThere was a scene where hodgins comes to angela and says it late got Sleepy Hollow on DVR lol
ReplyDeleteTook 4 seasons of TVD's to see it and currently on season 3 and 3 seasons of the walking dead which im currently in season 3 as well lol
ReplyDeleteLOL That sound so bad!! It sounds more like an insult...think about it..."crabs" lol it doesn't work, let's keep trying. (Not that mine were any better, lol)
ReplyDeleteOr if they were maybe it was classified as arson. :-)
ReplyDeleteThat is horrible ... I'm not much of a shipper so I clearly need to work on this :)
ReplyDeleteThis show is not for me. I don't see how it can remain interesting for long (even though the first ep didn't interest me at all). I'm all for mythological shows but I want them to be convincing enough that I forget that it's far from reality. This show had me rolling my eyes and shaking my head not far into it. Sorry. :(
ReplyDeleteLmfao...it'll take time, but u'll get it eventually. : )
ReplyDeleteThe show promoted a headless horseman, it doesn't get more farther from reality that that. Lol why not give it one more chance? For me personally, when a new series premieres and I don't get pulled in by the pilot, I give it to the 3rd ep. If i'm STILL not convinced by then. it is NOT for me...i say watch the 2nd ep and see if u change ur mind. : )
ReplyDeleteLoved it! Really great execution and nice cinematography! A lot of mythology early on! Way to go Kurtzman, Orci, Wiseman, and Iscove. (Love seeing 2 Bad Robot alumni get brutally killed!). It was fun! Can't wait till next week's!
ReplyDeleteIt was MUCH better than I expected. XD (But poor Sulu and Kelvin "Joe" Innman :P)
ReplyDeleteI'm VERY impressed with Kurtzman and Orci and their team up with Iscove and Wiseman! :)
ReplyDeleteYay! <3
ReplyDeleteHave you never seen Tim Burton's. Disney's, or read the book? It's all supernatural phenomenon with witch craft. By placing part of it in modern day and with a Biblical/Ancient Myth context, we get something both comical and philosophically out of the box with this interpretation.
ReplyDeleteThe series I think is meant to fun, as we surely have to suspend disbelief, (which is in line with what some of the characters think - making the ridiculousness very relatable).
But If you don't like any fantasy, then you're right. It's probably not for you, but IMO fantasy only tends to enhance the human condition, when used effectively by exposing identity and challenging beliefs/reality.
From what i read its not the last time we'll be seeing Sulu, yay!
ReplyDeleteSo it happened!...the thing i never thought could happen again,i fell in love with a show! This show! I haven't been this excited since Fringe!! Can't wait till next week!
I will probably try it again. There's nothing else on. Lol.
ReplyDeleteI have no problem with fantasy shows. I love BATB and TVD, twilight, x-men etc. all are far from realistic. But this show just didn't grab me.
I actually love a lot of fantasy based stuff. This show just didn't pull me in.
ReplyDeleteOh, really?! That's great! It's always nice to see Cho and his character is linked to something pretty important, but I had thought he was only guess staring for The Pilot!
ReplyDeleteThe filming style (the cameras/the lighting) reminded me of FRINGE a great deal, which is pretty neat! I liked how they launched a lot of mythology straight away so that fans of other versions can see how it will be different and expand!
I'm pretty sure it was in TVLine where i read about Cho...
ReplyDeleteYes,that is one of the things i liked about it,they didn't take x amount of episodes before the mythology was introduced.
ReplyDeleteThinking we will almost certainly get a lot of Free Mason symbolism and mythology on the series.
ReplyDeleteAlready had 3 recurring symbols in the pilot.
Woot woot!!
ReplyDelete10 million viewers..........YES!
ReplyDeleteIt has merit. I would have watched it even if it was not called Sleepy Hollow.
ReplyDeleteStumbling upon its own paranormal files.
I adored it. Way more than I expected. I was excited for the show but it was not even one of those I was looking forward the most, but wow. Really awesome pilot, a lof of potential, awesome leads, awesome characters and chemistry, incredible mythology. I will be there FOR SURE!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed it ... I've heard it's going to get scarier and I for one can't wait. Right now, only The Walking Dead make me jump out of my seat and I kind of miss the adrenaline. The River did that to me too but I'm hoping this will end better.
ReplyDeleteI should also point out that Ichabod has a seriously sexified accent ... loving it.
