I cried when Mary started to cried, seriously. I knew she would burst into tears before the end of the episode because she had been holding everything in for 6 months. I'm glad she's gonna take part in the running of the estate. I missed that show! Happy and proud to be a brit!
I watched it again ... yeah it's that good. But I wanted to comment on Mary specifically. I have been a little harsh on her throughout the sneak peeks with her being somewhat disinterested in her son and a bit cold with those around her. Well perspective is everything - the writing in this episode completely nailed it. I think the way she was played in this first episode was incredible. Michelle Dockery really did an amazing job this week in portraying someone who is not only dealing with tightly controlled grief but a mother who is probably going through some post partum depression. The writing throughout the episode to bring her back around felt very organic and real. Great episode ... still miss cousin Matthew and those ridiculous blue eyes tho :)
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I cried a little, poor Mary :-(
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to find a way to watch it (US viewer), but I'm so scared to download stuff! Reviews seem mostly positive!
