I can't stop laughing, I just can't, hahaha! All this time, all this fuzz around the stupid sneak peek and they give us the ONE scene everyone had already seen. This plus the disaster of the promotional photos. It's not looking so good for ABC right now.
Not only do they release an old scene as a new sneak peek, but it is the scene with the worst actor in the whole wide world. It is like double torture: frustration for lack of new footage + watching this awful awful actor still be able to suck when he is in a scene with the oh so talented Robert Carlyle. WTF, ABC?
Although I would have liked to see something new, I do like this scene. So very Lost like. I kind of think the bad acting is a little intentional, because I think he is suppose to be stoic/monotone making the Lost Boys cult-like/unfeeling. -But gosh, what I wouldn't give to see Tom Friendly instead. :p
True enough. But then again, I wonder... people who are on the internet are the people who see sneak peeks. And those people are the same ones who had access to the scene before ABC release it (?) again. So... yeah, sure, there are fans who hadn't seen it, but I'm pretty sure they're aware of the other couple of thousands who've know about this particular excerpt for weeks.
The thing about that is, the folks on the internet who knew about this particular sneak peek in advance saw it off a bootleg from D23. A bootleg that the hardcore, convention-going crowd sought out. A bootleg that you'll notice has been taken down off youtube. ABC has demonstrated how protective they are of their product and wish for things like this to be released through them (as naive as that is when it comes to the internet).
So naturally they wanted to show the clip that actually generated a fair amount of buzz with the hardcore following to the general public. Which is why they went through a site like facebook, one that doesn't have a distinct internet culture, rules, or language like tumblr or reddit. Facebook is the gateway to the internet for people who don't understand the internet, and more likely than not a hub for the casual fans. Also, these casual fans are more likely to share the clip with a wide demographic of people interested but not yet committed to the show through the act of liking and sharing the page.
I think they knew they had a good juicy clip that would appeal to the more casual fan and they didn't want to waste it or to reveal much more of the premiere. Considering how disastrous their promotions have been this year so far, I can see them leaping at a chance to get the hype up with the general audience in anyway possible. I'm disappointed in the clip too, I expect more from the ABC promo team, but folks have been posting in various places all day how this was the first time they had seen the footage.
For sure, I completely agree. It's just very clear they are aiming casual viewers instead of actual fans (which makes sense, obviously, because they already count with fans turning on their tvs anyway, but they have to convince the casual viewer the show is worth-watching). What bugs me is the fact they are constantly disregarding fans. Fine, release a video everyone who actually likes the show already saw, but then at least give us decent footage, or decent promo pictures. They managed to blow every single aspect of the S3 promotion so far, even fans get tired of that.
Maybe his super evil father left him there or he ran away from home from his evil evil father and went to Neverland, where he was bullied by Peter Pan and perhaps one of the lost boys.
I completely agree with you. Personally, I think the entire ABC promo budget got poured into Agents of SHIELD, though why OUaT is lacking when Wonderland, Revenge, and Castle have had decent promotion is beyond me. Perhaps they see OUaT as being able to carry itself without a lot of promotion due to its popularity. Not a wise decision in my opinion.
Though Adam Horowitz literally just tweeted a new S3 poster and it looks pretty sharp, so perhaps all isn't lost for us :)
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
