On a September day in New York, I'm looking out my balcony, and I still miss my family," says de Pablo, thinking about not being on the Los Angeles set in the fall for the first time since 2005. "But they're with me all the time, every day, and that won't change." De Pablo is speaking with TV Guide Magazine exclusively after her abrupt decision not to renew her contract just prior to the start of production on Season 11 (which kicks off Tuesday at 8/7c on CBS).
As for the fan outpouring, she says, "I was incredibly moved by the blind support people had without ever getting reasons as to why I left. People trusted that what I was doing was what I needed to do, and that's unconditional love from people who don't even know me. That's been the most beautiful thing out of this process."

Well at least she left in good terms with CBS and they gave the fans closure and she'll probably be back at some point unlike Sasha Alexander who left in bad terms.(I think the fact that they killed Kate in such a brutal way says a lot).
ReplyDeleteOK, good to know that on of the comments I read was false!
ReplyDeleteWith all due respect, a TV show is not "just a TV show". The people we have on screens become close to us. We love them, sometimes even more than our friends and family (I'm in love with an actor and I have only seen that person on screen. It's crazy, perhaps, but I am completely in love). After many years of watching a character grow, having them leave is more than just a career choice. It affects millions of people's daily lives around the world. I would go as far as to say when a character leaves a show, there are people who take it so personally it feels like their best friend/crush/role model has died, or disappeared. They don't see them anymore, they don't hear about them anymore. It is a very difficult thing to handle, and especially when we are talking about America's #1 drama.
ReplyDeleteI have always wondered... what does it mean when someone says they "ship" someone on a TV show? Like you said, the "Tiva shippers"... I just can't figure it out :/

Series finale? Don't be so confident about that. We would all love a series finale, but CBS isn't exactly known for them. Most recent and relevant example: CSI: Miami. Also a long-running crime show, and ended its series with multiple questions unanswered and no actual "series finale". I'm not saying that's gonna happen with NCIS, I'm just saying be glad for every episode you do get, and don't focuse too much on the future in these cases, because reality may come back another time to bite fans in the ass.
ReplyDeleteWow, I cannot believe I forgot to check Wikipedia! How did I miss that, it's my go-to source for almost everything. But thanks man!
ReplyDeleteYeah, but isn't NCIS doing better than CSI: Miami was?
ReplyDeleteRight now it is. But wait a few years. Even if NCIS gets 20 seasons, it doesn't guarauntee a proper series ending (though it should. I personally believe that should be a requirement of any series, but the networks apparently disagree).
ReplyDeleteI've been watching NCIS since the very beginning, I am a Ziva fan and a Tony fan and a Tiva shipper and I haven't sent any hate to anyone, neither from the show nor the fandom. I didn't even blame CBS for anything like most of the fandom did. Cote is a very private and classy lady, I've respected her decision since the day I read she was leaving, she had her reasons and whichever they were she doesn't need to explain them to anyone but her employers. Please don't put an entire part of the fandom all together in the same bag, we're not all the same.
ReplyDeleteAs for Gibbs' rules, those was true from seasons 3 to 10, which is the reason nothing other than a strong friendship ever happened between Tony and Ziva, but now on season 11 they are not co-workers anymore so, rule #12 doesn't apply anymore.
Of'course it isn't true, otherwise it would have made the CBS evening news. It is just sour grapes thrown at ZIVA/TIVA fans for caring too much about Cote leaving. Ignore those kinds of posts. Total fake outs.
ReplyDeleteYeah, i understand some people become so close to their favorite characters they seem like family members, but there is a thin line between love and obsession. OK, Ziva will be missed just like Kate and Jen were, normal human beings are allowed to have feelings.
ReplyDeleteBut I've seen waaay too many fangirls obsessing over their fandoms in a completely disturbing way. Those were my last post's target audience.
I don't think you've realized just how much television affects us, in all ages. Fangirls are not the only ones that get obsessive. I'm 20 years old, and if the cast and crew of Under the Dome was in my town, I'd pay an insane amount of money (literally, you'd think I was crazy) just to meet and greet them. Not even a 15-minute conversation, just a meet and greet would bring a massive smile to my face for years to go. These people may just be acting to make a living, but their characters are able to bring feelings to us every week and every day. It's not just a flat-screen HDTV and a few characters doing stuff anymore. What they do, affects our day. The scenes create emotions in us that directly impact our attitude, and how we go about our day. Role models are created that change our entire view of the world, we get our first crushes and get to experience the beauty of watching them every day/week (which we might not even get with a real-life crush) and we get put into situations with these characters that can be either dramatic and pulse-pounding, or sad and depressing. My grandfather, 87 years old, still starts crying when he watches the series finale of one of the old-timey shows that he loved. Hell, I feel like I actually know the actor I am in love with on a deep and personal scale, and that person doesn't even know I exist, hahaha.
ReplyDeleteThis just makes me so sad - Ziva was my favorite character. It is 15 minutes until the premiere & I still haven't decided whether or not to watch it. I'm not sure I want to know how the story ends. Geez!
ReplyDeleteI've no doubt that NCIS will get their series finale on their terms.CSI was sliding for years before it was canceled.NCIS brought in a ton of money for them,no way will CBS screw NCIS over.
ReplyDeleteMaybe, maybe not. We'll see :)
ReplyDeleteYes yes yes, I would love to see her back for a couple of episodes in the future! I hope they doesn't try to replace her and does't forget about her as quickly as they did about Kate.
ReplyDeleteWell Don Bellasario left NCIS and following a long tradition creators and producers being fired from the shows due to creative or budget reasons. Bruce Geller was fire from both Mission Impossible and Mannix by CBS because of sloppy production schedules and always running grossly over budget . Also D.B. in may of his earlier shows (Magnum P.I., Quantum leap, Air Wolf, JAG to name a few) was far less evolved in the day to day production and the series progressed. Whats sort of ugly this time around is his sons have hijacket the Belisarius Productions freezing their father out of the company he created and has done their best to kill any new show ideas his dad would like to create. Its become quite bitter fued and led to the law suit DB filed against Belisarius over NCIS LA. It oh so very hollywood and sad.
