NCIS: Los Angeles - Season 5 - Latest from Xfinity

Exclusive: ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ Boss Reveals A Major Split Is Coming

“NCIS: Los Angeles” literally left us hanging — or rather Sam’s (LL Cool J) wife Michelle (Aunjanue Ellis) was left dangling out the window of a high-rise building, holding on to a curtain for dear life, in the Season 4 finale. At the same time, her hubby and Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) were being tortured to reveal if Michelle, who operates undercover as Quinn, was a federal agent.

When “NCIS: Los Angeles” returns, the story will pick up immediately where we left off because, as executive producer/showrunner Shane Brennan told xfinityTV, “You can’t leave someone hanging out a window and someone having their teeth drilled out.” That said, he adds, “The interesting thing is we pick it up straight away but we end — this is a little bit exclusive in its own way — we end the episode some time later. It is not a few days later. It is weeks and weeks and weeks later.”

But the bottom line for the season is that Kensi (Daniela Ruah) and Deeks are going to be taken down a very hard road.

“Kensi and Deeks will be split up as partners midseason. And when I say split up, they will really be split up,” Brennan told us exclusively. “And when you think we can’t or won’t do anything else, we have got in the back end of the season, a big fat juicy complication in their lives.”

I wonder if it means that Kensi will have a temporary partner or will she work alone/work with Callen and Sam? I'm really looking forward to the Kensi/Deeks situation and how it plays out (I just hope that while Deeks isn't around that Kensi doesn't mope, pine away. I love seeing her strong, independent and kicking ass).

I'm glad that the show is making a real story about PTSD, psychological issues, post-torture, counseling etc. Usually other shows avoid that sort of thing.

Didn't they say that a cast member will be leaving the series? I'm leaning towards Deeks.

I wonder what fat juicy complication is about...I suppose it'll be a new love interest, but I hope it's something more complex. Love to see a Kensi story arc this season.

I agree, really appreciate that they are taking the trauma thing seriously. Usually the characters are already good to go on the next episode - which is super dumb.

To be honest, I don't think the aforementioned character will be leaving the series. Brennan said that a character will be leaving the team, and that does not mean it will be permanently. It could be a PTSD temporary leave (just to break our hearts for a week or two LOL), I don't know. If it were a character leaving, they would've announced which actor/actress won't be renewing their contract, right?

Hey, just wanted to say that 'guest' is really me. I tried to delete the comment but afterwards my comment stayed and my name was erased.

Thanks for replying, I was actually nervous about leaving that comment there. Yeah you're right, what you mentioned in the second paragraph (about character leaving the team). I got carried away and it's been a while since I heard the comment, so I didn't remember the exact words. That definitely makes sense. How long do you think Deeks won't be at NCIS? (but still onscreen?) Sounds like it'll be a while. Maybe six episodes?

That's also true, if someone was leaving the show we would know by now, and there would have been an announcement. Once again, I just overacted and thought the worse.

Thought I should tell you that 'guest' is really me :) (Tried to delete my comment but my name got erased but the comment stayed).

I have a feeling that the complication is either Deeks getting a love interest (another excuse to avoid talking about the kiss) or either one of them is working a case separately and that person's life is in danger.

    lol no problem, dear. :)

I hope he's not away for a long time for I really enjoy his dynamics with Kensi.

Yeah, it was their partnership that got me interested with the show as well the rest of the amazing cast and stories/cases. Do you think their dynamics will change once Deeks comes back? I think it will.

  8. My favorite part of the show are the Deeks and Kensi scenes together. How are we going to get that if they are split up? That basically takes the fun out of the show for me! I think the surprising/NEW thing for the show would honestly be to just let Deeks and Kensi get together. That's more realistic/natural than dragging a couple for 10 years which is complete BS. (example Tiva) And completely unrealistic when you think about real life. When have you seen two people in real life take 10 years to get together? I haven't.

  9. Why would they split up in "MIDSEASON". shouldn't they split in early part when deeks goes back to LAPD? The fat, juicy complication ofcourse would be kensi's ex fiance coming back.

  10. Agree. There're ways of making the relationship work (both characterwise
and plotwise), without ruining the show, without going in circles
eternally, without the tiring will they-won't they. I hope the treat
that pair, so funny and full of chemistry, in an adult and coherent way
(and I wish for them to get to be happy together :)...even eventually)
