Breaking Bad - Series Finale - Breaks Piracy Records

30 Sept 2013

The season finale of Breaking Bad has resulted in a record number of pirated downloads for the popular TV-series. Just 12 hours after the first copy appeared online more than 500,000 people had already downloaded the show via various torrent sites. Most downloaders come from Australia, followed by the United States and the UK, where thousands of file-sharers prefer unauthorized copies over legal alternatives.

  1. I am one of these 500,000 or so people. We don't get US channels in Pakistan so this is the only alternative for us to catch up on our favorite shows.

  2. Hello fellow Pakistani :).
I tend to download my shows from other sharing sites instead of torrents.

  3. Hi there, :)
I use a private torrent site.

  4. "prefer to use unauthorized copies over legal alternatives" REALLY? Did you go around and ask them that? Because I believe if people had a solid legal alternative, then piracy wouldn't be around anymore. I don't use piracy because I prefer it. I use it because I refuse to wait weeks/months for a new episode to air in my country when the US gets to see it, I want it in the best HD quality available and I protest such things as "regional restrictions" on the network's websites. Give me a solid, legal alternative and I'll spend lots of money on it.

  7. Not surprising. But that last comment was so unnecessary. I would love not to have to use torrents (and I'm in the states, no less) but them there's the breaks when the system is so convoluted with unnecessary restrictions.

  8. In many places, it's simply not available otherwise. I purchased the ep on Amazon and finally got to watch it tonight.

  9. This. Combined with the fact there's always a delay in when it's broadcast in the US and when it's broadcast outside the US. People don't want to wait days, weeks or sometimes even months for a program others have been buzzing about and putting out spoilers.

  10. I am simply poor. It is either TV or Internet. I choose internet(46$ for DSL with limited download/upload cap. But hey, shows like Breaking Bad, Game Of Thrones would not be as popular without piracy. The more piracy there is, the more free advertisers.
