Having Junior as the fourth was predictable, but I'm glad he was the fourth so they didn't drag that story line out so far.
I actually like Maxine's character. I think her introduction was a tad abrupt, but now that she's there I like her. I know I'm in the minority here, but I think she adds some to the show.
I'm beginning to get very bored with Julia's character. I think they rushed the Julia/Barbie relationship and while I'm ready to accept it now as is, I just can't see past the unbelievability in the story.
I'm excited for the season finale, should be interesting to see how they follow Stephen King's novel and at the same time convolute things to their advantage.
gave it a good, some decent developments: Linda actually being a decent detective and discovering the drug plots, and Barbie coming clean to Julia, but there were some things that just didn't sit well: nutball Junior being the 4th (and Angie being a little too accepting/excited about that) - I hope that this wont signal the writers intent to make him a hero in the long run.., Julia being a little too easily accepting of Barbie after his confession, Max being trapped in the town and being able to set up her human cockfighting scheme/employing all of the town's subversive element in only 9 days... right...., I'm good with Big Jim finding out about Max's mother/backstory/dirt on Barbie, but him leaving her to drown (you know she'll be back) when he should've kept the one important piece of leverage that he possibly could've had was kind of dumb, and even though I like the Max character as a wild card to stir things up, I don't care either for the way she's been written or the way Natalie Z has been asked to play her as the character feels a bit over the top and I kept expecting her to grow a mustache to twirl as she gloated about her evil genius... just too much - perhaps they'll tone her down hopefully
Oh, it's gotten even worse. 1. Stop showing that cow, will ya? Please! 2. As mentioned before: the fight club - People giving their precious things to watch others fight? Come on!
3. The kids are overacting AGAIN! 4. Constantly repeating facts from previous episodes - as if noone can follow the storylines 5. No more "the truth will come out!" 6. Junior being the 4th hand
Oh, some good things, too. 1. Angie's cute when she's angry. 2. Dean Norris's performance is actually convincing.
If Barbie hadn't kill him, Peter would have found another way to get himself killed. Peter wanted to die, so Julia could get the insurance money. Barbie isn't really at fault here and I'm glad Julia sees it the same way.
I voted Awesome, but I think I'm gonna have to go down to Great. While I loved the revelation of the 4th hand and the mystery surrounding where the fuck Maxine came from, there were some parts I did not like. The whole fight-club thing seemed too forced for me, even if there is no entertainment, you are fucking trapped under a dome. You don't fight each other when you are in the middle of an international crisis. I also felt Barbie faking a loss in the match was... just odd. That whole storyline could've been skipped in my eyes. However, I do like the way they handled Julia and Barbie. I am so happy they are (possibly) staying together!
The relationship between Barbie & Julia is definitely something the show hasn't handled very well. They were total strangers to each other and you simply cannot develop the kind of affection they have for each other over within 9 days.
1. The cow is indeed disgusting, but it's to build up momentum. That clip ain't going anywhere. 2. The whole fight club was weird, and unnecessary. But every show has a few bad scenes here and there, and I think all the awesome scenes in the show makes up for it. 3. I don't know how someone can "overact"? These people are trapped under a Dome, with some really freaky shit going on inside of it. Hell, I'd probably run around screaming if I was trapped, these guys are remarkable calm and collected (nothing wrong with that, just stating that any huge reaction they have is more than welcome in my book) 4. There are tens, if not a hundred, storylines and sub-plots going on in this show. Not everybody can follow it. It's good that they repeat, it helps to know what the scenes is aiming at, and what will happen next. 5. Yes, the whole "the truth will come out" got old quick, but I think the writes also know that. After all, the truth of Julia's husband was revealed to her in this ep. I think (and hope) there won't be so much truth left for her to reveal. 6. Nobody liked Junior being the 4th hand, but that doesn't mean he and Angie are going to marry each other. It just means he is more connected than we thought earlier. I stand by my thought that when the Dome goes away, Junior is straight off to jail for kidnapping her (if he isn't already killed by then, who knows?)
I think you are trying to point out everything you didn't like because you aren't so happy with the series as you hoped you were going to be. I can name a lot of shows that have huge writing errors in them if you want. All I'm saying is, Under the Dome is definitely (as seen by ratings and success) one of the better shows out there. :)
Oh come on, you saw the romance between Julia and Barbie! I love them together, and I am so extremely happy with the scene between them. And frankly, Julia wanting to be with Barbie even after she finds out about her husband is one of the least things I have problems with right now. The characters in this show have 99 problems, but her and Barbie being together is not one, haha!
I hope the Maxine character is there for a different reason than just what we have seen so far. Otherwise, her entire character has been... well, bullshit, so far. Fight club? Meh, one of the worst scenes of the show to date.
Don't believe in love at first sight, do you? You can definitely get this affectionate when you are trapped under an indestructible, massive Dome of doom. Hahaha, frankly, I think I would be desperate to have someone by my side if something like that happened.
I just find it way too rushed. It seems like the only way to really enjoy this show to ignore the distorted timeline. I like them together, I just don't like how their relationship is moving forward in such an unrealistically rapid manner.
Well, yes, I do agree with that. I would love a day counter on the show and I would also like some of the storylines to calm down (like their relationship), but I have to say, I do like the direction they are heading, even if it is a premature one.
I soo agree with you. I´m loosing patience aswell. And Maxine......don´t like her character at all. It´s summer, so I´ll keep watching. If UTD was on while all the other good shows are on, I would have dropped it by now.
Im not real excitied that Jr is the 4th hand.. kinda ruined the episode for me..and the fact that Angie told Joe and Norrie about what Jr did to her is gunna bite her in the ass.
Sorry to nitpick. I just don't like speaking in absolutes, because there is mostly someone who disagrees. I think Junior is a very interesting character with big potential and therefore I'm very glad he's connected to the dome (mythology of the show) so closely.
Yea, I know he is a kidnapper and stuff, but meh. He is growing on me a lot. He has that teen broody angst thing that I find attractive thanks to Angel. And forget what happens in the books, if he is sorry for what he did, and makes it up to Angie I think he could change. He didn't kidnap her to kill her, he thought the dome was hurting her. I hope the four of them live for at least season 2, the mini dome arc is epic.
I agree about the Julia/Barbie scene at the end. It was one of the better scenes of the Episode but the least of the problems. I think Junior being one of the "four hands" is the biggest problem. He will definitely be around for the remainder of the season and most likely next season as well. He seems like a perfect villain and I think there's a ton more the writers can do with that character.
I hated the book so I just skimmed, but from what I remember he is so much better than in the books. Doesn't he kill angie and dodie and then rape their corpse in the books. I really hope that doesn't happen in the show I hope they keep making him a better guy.
Yea, I wiki'd the books (not a fan of horror/thriller books) but he is a serial killer who rapes the girls when they are dead.. but hopefully they don't go there and he atones for what he did. Damon kills people in TVD yet the fans swoon over him, I don't see the difference. I think there could be a Roswell theme as well, notice how the four people connected to the mini dome are couples? Maybe the aliens are trying to make a royal monarch with the four of them? IDK
Could the fourth hand mystery BE anymore predictable?
And I was kinda taken aback at how Julia still wanted to be with Barbie. And we know she is going to get hurt (physically and emotionally) becasue Barbie hasn't told her about Max.
Yeah, you're probably right, I'm a bit disappointed. Not so much with the changes from the book, but the dramaturgy feels a bit off. I actually really liked the first 4-5 Episodes. And: What I was saying is that the youngish actors overACT, not that the characters overREACT. I even think that many characters take that whole dome-business far too lightly. "Oh look, it's a dome...whatever..." I still have hopes, though, that the finale will be breathtaking. One more thing: I think it's time they bring up the citizen militia. Seems like Linda and Junior are the only officers in town.
I was meh up unti halfway but then I really enjoyed it. I thought we got a lot of progression in a lot of storylines such as Linda finding out on Big Jim, the whole Barbie and Julia thing and of course Junior being the forth. I was not necessarily over the moon about Junior being the forth only because I wanted it to be a bit less predictable but still, I am okay with it cause I have grown to like the character way more than I did at the beginning. One I don't like now is Big Jim, that's for sure, I hope Linda puts him in his place. I really liked the Barbie-Julia scene, it was very honest on both of them. Max is getting a bit annoying being so superior but that will change when she finds out about her mother.
Even though I would have liked as a bigger arc mystery and I wish it hadn't been this predictable, I sort of like that it is Junior, I like those four together and it will be a nice way for him to make it right with Angie.
No, I used to hate him at the beginning but now I am liking him more and more. Interestingly, I am also disliking Big Jim more and more. I hope Angie can find a way to forgive Junior and that he can redeem himself.
I forgot to comment that I also disliked the fight club scene quite a lot and I agree with your idea that it was quite unrealistic and forced. Also, count me in as one that really enjoyed the Julie and Barbie thing
I liked her a lot in the previous episode but in this one it was over the top. The problem is that she didn't have any weaknesses until now, so it was too much power. I think it will change with the developments of her mother. Still love Natalie Zea though
You just said everything I was scared to :P Obviously I don't want them to get married but I think Junior could be a major asset to them, I hope he and Angie become friends if not more.
Yep! Plus, I'm glad that woman from The Following (Max?) can't blackmail Barbie anymore. Julia knows and is still staying w/Barbie. Yay!! Love your avi by the way! I cannot wait until October for TWD!
Doesn't matter how you dress it, Barbie still killed Julia's husband and Julia still isn't acting like someone who's husband was killed. What happened to the big revelation we were all expecting where Julia was supposed to react really badly and the shit was supposed to hit the fan, due to the fact that this man, you know, killed her husband. Poor writing, not so cleverly disguised by this 'life insurance' twist.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I love Julia/Barbie, but I can't believe she still wants to be with him after finding out he murdered her husband. Like, what?
ReplyDeleteAnd nooooo to Junior being the fourth hand.
Loved this epsiode!
I can't stand Maxine. She just ruins every scene for me. Not really happy Junior is the fourth.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more. This was my least favorite episode of the series so far..
ReplyDeleteHaving Junior as the fourth was predictable, but I'm glad he was the fourth so they didn't drag that story line out so far.

Oh, and the pinks stars were kinda cool.
ReplyDeleteBig Jim is the ''Heisenberg" of chester's mill.
ReplyDeleteIf Barbie hadn't kill him, Peter would have found another way to get himself killed. Peter wanted to die, so Julia could get the insurance money. Barbie isn't really at fault here and I'm glad Julia sees it the same way.

ReplyDeleteI hated him in the beginning but learning about his past and knowing he's influenced by the dome he's going on me. I still feel horrible for angie
ReplyDelete"Nobody liked Junior being the 4th hand." I did.
ReplyDeleteMy apologies. In that case, only a small minority liked Junior being the 4th hand.
ReplyDeletewhen Julia said future about their relationship it surprised me and it did the same for Barbie, thought it was going to be over
ReplyDeleteSorry to nitpick. I just don't like speaking in absolutes, because there is mostly someone who disagrees.
ReplyDeleteI think Junior is a very interesting character with big potential and therefore I'm very glad he's connected to the dome (mythology of the show) so closely.
I completely agree about speaking in absolutes. This was actually a rare time for me to write that way. I normally say "almost everyone/nobody" too :)
ReplyDeleteYea, I know he is a kidnapper and stuff, but meh. He is growing on me a lot. He has that teen broody angst thing that I find attractive thanks to Angel. ReplyDeleteMe too! I was expecting her to ditch Barbie so it was nice to see it play out a different way.

ReplyDeleteIt's her second appearance on CBS lol her first appearance on CBS was on POI playing a corrupt D.A. in season 1.
ReplyDeleteReally? I didn't know her back then
ReplyDeleteAhah you're welcome ;)
ReplyDeleteYup watch the Pilot episode of Person of Interest
ReplyDeleteYep! Plus, I'm glad that woman from The Following (Max?) can't blackmail Barbie anymore. Julia knows and is still staying w/Barbie. Yay!!
