CROSS-PLATFORM SNAPSHOT: THE PREMIERE EPISODE OF “UNDER THE DOME”
Editor's Note: Television viewing on platforms such as DVR, Video-on-Demand and online streaming continues to grow at a fast pace. In an effort to quantify how much non-linear viewing adds to the live plus same day audience, CBS Research will periodically provide updates on audience trends across these multiple platforms.
Live Plus Same Day Viewership Jumps from 13.53 Million Viewers to Nearly 20 Million with DVR Playback, VOD and Online Streaming
The series premiere of UNDER THE DOME, which averaged a live plus same day audience of 13.53 million viewers, has jumped to nearly 20 million viewers (19.86m) with inclusion of 7-Day DVR Playback, Video-on-Demand and online streaming.
Live + 7 DVR playback for the June 24 premiere of UNDER THE DOME added +4.23m viewers (17.76m from 13.53m), +1.6 rating points in adults 25-54 (6.1 from 4.5) and +1.3 rating points in adults 18-49 (4.6 from 3.3) from live plus same day.
Video-on-Demand transactions through the first 22 days delivered an additional 1,605,513 viewers, while 22 days of viewership from online streaming on CBS.com and its multi-channel video partners added 491,448 more viewers.
The nearly 20 million-viewer total does not include viewership from Amazon’s Prime Instant Video, which provides exclusive online subscription access to all episodes of UNDER THE DOME four days after the broadcast on CBS. While not reporting specific streaming figures, Amazon says the first episode of UNDER THE DOME was the most-watched TV premiere in the history of the service, and UNDER THE DOME continues to be watched by more customers than any other series on Prime Instant Video.

This show is definitely getting renewed and I'm so happy about that!
ReplyDeleteAwesome!
ReplyDeletefuck this show
ReplyDeleteOnly seen the first two episodes, I found it rather corny at times but with a decent, but not yet well executed, idea behind it all... does it get better?

spybubble funciona
They should include streaming, i tunes, amazon etc in the ratings for every single show.
ReplyDeleteFantastic to see a more serialized show on CBS do so well, they just might order more serialized shows because of it! :)
ReplyDeleteBe careful what you wish for, they might have to stretch current storylines beyond what they had planned. Rarely if ever that is good news as you end up with more filler and/or crappy episodes.
ReplyDeletePersonal opinion, great for a summer show, won't bother with it if it was on fall-winter.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't have enough for several seasons. They should take it for what it is a one season high rated show, like Harper's Island was.
ReplyDeleteLooks like people really don't have anything else to watch.
ReplyDeleteThey already planned for there to be more than one season. I think they know what they're doing.
ReplyDeleteThat's why they're changing stuff from the book.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love Harper's Island, but weren't the ratings pretty bad?
I know they did, but it is still a book as source material. It is finite. Dragging this out for more than 2 or 3 seasons would be bad. Unless they suddenly find some good stories to tell.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest episodes 3 and 4 were average at best. These already felt like they were stretching the story so it could last a season, while also introducing a problem-of-the-week element.
So that's were my sceptisism concerning stretching out the story comes from.
I thought episodes 3 and 4 were pretty bland. If you want my reviews are here on the site though. :)
ReplyDeleteIf the ratings were bad that might have been good for it in a way because I thought it ended well.
ReplyDeleteWow,fantastic numbers! Hopefully the other networks will be more receptive to having good quality shows on during the summers in the future....
ReplyDeleteImpressive numbers.... especially considering it's network TV and it is summer....
ReplyDeleteMean.
ReplyDeleteThey aren't following the book so that should not be a problem at all. However, the writers running out of ideas may be another story.
ReplyDeleteIf they made each season 1 week it could work, but if they make each season over a month I agree it will end up being a problem unless everyone takes up farming right away.
ReplyDeleteIt will depend on whether you like the main characters or not.
ReplyDeleteThat's fair. :)
