The dream, when Deb shot Dexter was horrible. But it was good to hear that she felt worse by the thought she shot Dex and not LaGuerta. "Dexter is fucking Dexter" Over one year and over one week of therapy to figure that out? "You are no monster. You never have been." "Anyone on my table would disagree." LOL But I guess we've seen enough monsters on his table to tell the difference. The room was well hidden. The cameras were a good idea. The moment I saw the womens shoes I knew he wasn't the surgeon. "In your heart you know you'll always choose Dexter." So true. Hmmm. I have this theory, that Dex loves Deb more than anything else and that he would even kill Harry (their dad, not his son) if he would get between them. But I never thought of Deb. Would she chose her brother over her father? She always wanted daddys love and attention and acknowledgment. But it was Dexter who was there for her. The crash scene was awesome. I still don't get it. First she tries to kill him, then she saves him. I'm confused. But not surprised. Can't wait for the next week for the explanation.
I think it was the climax of her actual breakdown near the end, her luring him into the car, then crashing both of them into the lake, then finally realizing 'oh shit, what have I done'.. so I guess she'll get better from now on, while the promo strongly hints at Dex hating her now ^^ all the way to the finale when he'll probably save her and both will finally embrace their love and feelings for each other xD nah, the last one was a joke. But I remember MCH giving a pretty blank answer to the question if he likes how the show will end, so I guess it's a possibility they're going for some schmaltzy closure.
"I think it was the climax of her actual breakdown …" "…so I guess she'll get better from now on" I agree. I don't think she'll be O.K. and her old self in the next ep (or the next two), but I think she'll get better from now on. Family therapy might help. That will be so good!!!
It might hint at Dexter hating her, but I doubt it. The part, where he says (or thinks) that he's glad she's not there … I think, he might be shocked for what she did, maybe even glad he doesn’t need to see her, before thinks calm down and they solve this situation, but I don't think that he'll be able to hate her. Ever.
"When he'll probably save her and both will finally embrace their love and feelings for each other" it might be a joke for you, but it would be the end I would love to see. Dex and Deb and baby Harry (not a baby anymore) starting somewhere a new life as a happy family … I'm really not a sucker for happy endings. Well, sometimes I am. In this case I am. I just love them together. As brother and sister or as lovers, I don't care. I just love their relationship.
I don't think it was an "oh shit what have I done" moment. I think it's simply a matter of knowing she can't live with killing Dexter, so she's really only left with the option of killing him and her together.
Anyone else think the appearance of the bone saw, the specimen jars, and the surgical chart was a little too convenient? I'm being more and more swayed that Vogel is the brain surgeon and she's experimenting with her former test subjects.
"But I guess we've seen enough monsters on his table to tell the difference."
Yes! I think this is the big difference and why he point blank tells the audience he isn't emotionless.
I agree that Dex loves Deb more than everything else! Hence this line from the Pilot, "If I could have feelings for anyone, it would be Deb."
I think the reason Deb chooses Dex is because Harry did, but I think the difference is that Deb has Dexter more than Harry had Dexter. I think in her own way Deb is much stronger than their father and it's really because of Dexter and the choices her father made by bringing him into their lives.
The crash scene proves Vogal was right. Deb thinks she can keep lying about her feelings, that her new solution is that she can just destroy them both (suppression), but once again , reality set in and she chose Dexter again.
(And does anyone know who pulled Deb out? Was it Yates? Did anyone not find it suspicious that he did not go and try and save Dexter after saving Deb??)
I think that's the same thing. "What have I done" depends on what it is that she couldn't live with as being thing she would want to undo.
. It's just your answer is a more specified reason, then a generalized one, but I also think it's not just that she couldn't kill Dexter (and herself), but that she couldn't kill him, because Vogal is right. She loves him.
It's very possible. I originally thought that too until "Every Silver Lining" where she looked genuinely horrified by the phone call and the the "his and her" boxes.
But If anyone should be as big of a cliche' as Dexter is, it should be her...but that would still require her to care...
There are also parallels to Jordan Chase and his gang possibly proving this idea, but I would also think that since we have seen that already, that the writers would spin the concept on it's head somehow and not be "exact", making Vogal "the reason" these people are this way, but perhaps isn't the direct motivater (or it wasn't her intention), that like Harry taking Dexter home, and Dexter getting to involved in other killer's lives (Trinity), these patients just may be the unforeseen consequences of Vogal's former actions.
At the same time though, I can't deny the Brian themes here either and the idea of "survival of the fittest". If she is still experimenting, then I would assume the goal would be, pinning them all against each other, and allowing only the strongest of her lions to survive...(Born Free)
LOVED IT! -Turns out Vogal is right about some things, including that Deb will always choose Dexter., as after trying to klll them both, Deb turns around and saves his life. I think she actually helped Debra, but it's too bad Dexter had to read that excerpt about him (which is probably out of context), but I think she knows she's wrong and she did try and explain that writing is her way of processing...
Masuka's daughter Nikki FTW!!!
Like that Yates parallels Boyd Fowler (and the Jordan Chase vibe continues) and the colored shoes reminds me of Brian trying to remind Dexter of Laura Moser via nail polish fingers. -And was that Hanna Dexter saved?? I couldn't t really see her face, but I thought he said in his voice over "I know her".
Agree. Dex is not a real sociopath. He's not emotionless. You know what the best prove is (for me) that he is capable of caring? Not Deb, his son or Cody and Astor. It's Rita. Remember how shocked and depressed he was after she died? He totally lost it. He killed this guy in the restroom. Correct me, if I'm wrong, but wasn't it the first time he lost control like that? And even after 5 or 6 years he still remembered what she wore on their first date. And it was just a short date he agreed to, to get to his next victim. He thought he would never see her again. And even after all this years he remembered what she wore that night and picked it for the funeral. That was so sweet. I almost cried. I already posted last season, that I hope Dex would never be in a situation where he has to choose between Deb and Harry. I don't know if Deb is stronger than their dad. She might be. Harry saw what Dex did and couldn't handle it, so he killed himself. Deb was handling it quite well at the beginning. Till she killed LaGuerta. Now, that Vogel is helping her, she might learn to accept Dexters true self. Yes, Dex mentioned his son on the phone, when he was in the house. That moment I knew that it was a mistake and poor Harry might become a target again. Deb was pulled out by that guy who was fishing and saw their car crash in to the water. Wasn't she? Maybe he just tried to make sure Deb was safe before he wanted to get Dex.
Have to say I wasn't too thrilled by this comparably low-key episode, but it moved the story along nicely and Niki was my personal highlight of the episode xD
They picked a real cutie for the character, and I would have reacted just like Vince I guess xD
It wasn't very action packed, but I do like the dialogue between a lot of the characters in this episode a great deal...and the idea that we still really just don't know what we can or can't trust, especially with the pressure of not knowing how the series will end.
But Nikki was fun delight. I hope we see a little more of her!
I did not see that last scene coming. Deb is so unpredictable right now. Loved the episode. This season has been great. Can't wait for Hannah to come back though, she will spice things up a lot!
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteI loved the interactions btw Vogel and Deb, and the end was straight up crazy!!

It was not Hannah. It was a girl whose fingerprints he found on the high heels. That's why he knew her - she was in the system of kidnapped people.
ReplyDeleteThank you!!!! I just don''t have time to rewatch it to catch what I didn't get.
