Thanks to Krigin for the heads up.

  1. I love how this trailer described all the things he is not and highlighted almost all his failures. xD

Though they sort of fixed him in last season's finale, here's hoping they can truly salvage him next season. :)

Hook was literally one of the best additions to Season 2 of OUAT. Charming, fascinating, witty british badguy with a heart of gold.

Not exactly a villain, yet not exactly a hero, every scene with him was fascinating and awesome.

When OUAT strikes gold, it strikes gold.

  3. I hope they don't make him too much of a good guy in S3. What made his character so interesting for me was his tendency to instantaneously side with those who can help him achieve his personal agenda the fastest.

  4. Am I the only one that prefers Hook with Regina and not Emma???

  5. I don't see the appeal in Emma & Hook. I don't see these two going beyond the flirtation they have going on right now. Hook & Regina would make a good couple but I can't see it happening anytime soon, considering he sold her out to the people who kidnapped her son.

He is kissing up to the queen there at the end.

I can't really see appeal of Regina with Hook.

The main appeal in romance is opposites and their interactions and parallels. What would Regina and Hook do? Practice evil laughs and share stories of their failed plans? There's no conflict or parallels needed for romance there.

  10. I do think he is charming, just sometimes too charming, but I kind of never looked at him a (did you know I was tempted to write 'never hooked at him') like a major villain, but an anti-hero playboy. There were moments early on with Aurora when I saw something genuinely good in him, which didn't resurface until the season finale.

  11. Nope, I do too. They both are dark, sleek, and of vanity (they fear age and seek youth) I feel they have a lot in common, with the exception of Regina being occasionally more ruthless and sophisticated.

  12. The conflict: Power and Survival of the Fittest.

The parallels: Vanity, Darkness, suffered great loss, and a boy being a motivator of change (Henry/Bae)

The difference: Class. Regina was raised more sophisticated of the upper class. Killian strikes me as either a poor boy just trying trying to survive in the world (could have been kidnapped/ pressed-ganged), or a rich boy who ran away from home, because he didn't like the life that was set before him, or maybe someone killed his parents...

  13. I beg to differ.

Personally, I see more parallels between Regina and Hook than I do between Emma and Hook.

    1) Both Regina and Hook were in relationships that society generally disapproves of (due to social status/marital status).
    2) Their loved ones had their hearts ripped out.
    3) Both Regina and Hook sought out revenge because they couldn't let go and move on.
    4) When they first offered children to take them in and raise them as their own, they were rejected and dealt with that rejection spectacularly bad (in Regina's case - she banished Hansel and Gretel to the Enchanted forest to wander alone, away from their father; in Killian's case - he handed Bae in to the Lost Boys to save his own ship and crew).
    5) Eventually, they got to the stage of making an effort to be better for a child's sake.
    6) Both have a bad reputation.
    7) Both can be ruthless when they're trying to achieve their own goals.
    8) They have common enemies (and frenemies) - both worked with Cora despite being somewhat disturbed by her cruel ways; both hate Rumplestiltskin and have lost loved ones at his hand; both have tried to hurt Belle to get back at Rumple;
    9) Both can be shameless flirts (rofl).
    10) Both look younger than they are due to travelling between realms and side-effects of magic.
    11) Both are generally distrustful (and this can do nicely for conflict - how would they learn to trust each other, especially when they have both double-crossed each other?).

Moreover, I much prefer the dynamic between Hook and Regina. Although he's usually trying to be 'witty' and sassy around Emma and Snow, he is quite deferential and reserved around Regina and Cora. He sees a kindred spirit in Regina, he treats her with respect, and perhaps if they had trusted each other a little bit more, he would have been content to start a new life with her and Henry. She had already matured enough to seek a meaningful life beyond revenge, so he might have learned something from her.

In contrast, his behaviour toward Emma suggests that he doesn't even take her seriously. My idea of romance does not involve "when I jab you with my sword, you'll feel it" remarks.

Then again, to each - his(her) own. But don't be so quick to mock Regina and Hook just because you don't see the appeal.

  14. LOL, hooked. xD

But yeah I agree with that, I think he started out great and closed out the season pretty good too. But a long the way, I feel he was too much all over the place. That happened with a lot of characters though, so it wasn't just him.

Also, I really need to watch Alias! :P

I'm so tired of the cliche of "opposites attract".

Colin said at Comic Con Hook is a villain.

Think of all the people Regina sold out and murdered, and the producers still think she's worthy of a love.

Regina and Hook are much closer in nature than Emma and Hook. But I don't think it would be as interesting. With Emma, Hook would be torn between the bad parts of her nature, and the noble parts which he briefly showed with Rumple's wife. With Regina Hook, it would be two evil people wrecking destruction like it was with Cora and I didn't find that held my interest for long.

  21. Best thing about S2!!!

  22. Thank you! =)

You're right about their vanity, I missed that! Speaking of looks, one more thing they have in common is that they've tried to use seduction to manipulate people (Regina got the Genie to kill for her; Hook tried to use his charms on Cora, but that didn't work).
As for the fear of ageing - I'm not so sure. They both preserved their youth as a side-effect of magic (the Dark Curse, and going to Neverland, respectively). But they haven't used magic for the sole purpose of appearing youthful, as far as we've seen.

  23. Yep same sex appeal tactics! :D

I agree with haven't had a real confirmation of fear of age being a factor, but I know in terms of the snow white fairy tale in Bros. Grimm, that is one of that character's hang-ups.

Perhaps, going with similar LOST themes, it's better to say they are fear 'death' and their life-extending/trying to take control of their realities are just some of various ways many of the characters express that notion?
