Although Meghan Ory will not be a regular in Once Upon a Time season 3, the actress confirmed today at San Diego Comic-Con that Ruby will return.
The “Little Reds” of the Once Upon a Time fandom were disappointed to learn earlier this year that Meghan Ory, who had been promoted to a series regular for season 2, would not be back for the show’s third season.
After learning that her role in season 3 had been reduced to make room for the many new characters, Ory began to look elsewhere for work, and was cast opposite former Lost star Josh Holloway in the new CBS drama Intelligence.
Ory and Holloway both attended the Intelligence screening and panel earlier today at the San Diego Comic-Con, and towards the end of the panel, Ory revealed that although there are no immediate plans for her return, Once Upon a Time fans haven’t seen the last of her.
As the character has not been killed off, she will be able to return both in flashbacks as Little Red Riding Hood and in present-day Storybrooke as Ruby.
While Ruby’s storyline may have been shelved for the time being, her character is still very much a part of the Once Upon a Time universe: Red and the Huntsman are the central characters in the new Once Upon a Time comic book, The Shadow of the Queen.

I am really starting to hate having a large cast. I want more of Ruby and other characters we already know. :(
ReplyDeleteShe's amazing, and deserves her own show along with Josh! Ruby is my favorite OUAT character, and the way her character was treated in season 2 was one of the main reasons why I stopped watching the show. I'll be happy to watch Ruby's scenes on YT or just fast-forward the rest.

ReplyDeleteIf they actually USE Ruby during the time Meghan is available, I will be happy enough. She was a regular last season and they totally wasted her contract, so hopefully they'll be smarter this season.

ReplyDeleteGood! I was hoping to see Red/Ruby again. I hope they make good use of her though. Not just as background. And I hope the writing is good for her. I find Red/Ruby much more interesting than almost all of the new characters added in the second season.

I feel like TPTB completely butchered her character by dismissing the storyline that had intended for her and by replacing it with the Neverland arc. If I was promoted to the main cast and then my storyline was dropped, I'd gone looking for work somewhere else too.

ReplyDeleteShe was poorly used in season two. Instead of giving her something to do they introduced two new love interests for Emma and made them regulars, made a love interest for Rumple a regular, and were busy fucking up Regina's arc in the second half of the season.

The worst part is they already had a storyline for Ruby but ditched it so they can make the Neverland arc happen. You do not promote someone to the main cast, and then drop her storyline. I really hope OuaT gets back on track this season.

ReplyDeleteLike I said, they completely butchered her character by turning her into a detection dog in human form who occasionally babysits Henry. In others word: She became a plot device in S2.

ReplyDeleteThe large cast doesn't worry me, as long as the keep the plots moving...essentially we have 3 locations and flashbacks just to start with this season, let alone I'm sure Neverland will also be divided into a couple of places, since it's a search for Henry.
ReplyDeleteI think it's more important that we start getting some character interactions we haven't scene, redemption arcs for certain characters more started, characters who have yet to really fall to fall, and hopefully some more back stories for certain characters (Emma, Charming, Belle, Archie, Blue Fairy, ect), and hopefully childhood flashbacks (since we are in Neverland), --but you need secondary characters to do things to create certain situations.
I feel better about this season, because I think the writers are finally at place that the menat to get to sooner.
Me too! (and as I said before, if she can get her new co-star to appear in a mini-arc, I'm all for that too!)
ReplyDeleteI think Aladdin, Jaffar, and Jasmine are good possibilities, because of OUAT in Wondeland seems to have an Eastern/Pursian theme going in relation to Cyrus...There could be a segway there along with Past/near immortal Neverland characters, as OUAT in Wonderlnad's promo provides backstory that also includes Neverland (Pirates and Mermaids mentioned).

(I didn't buy he was dead either, but it wouldn't surprise me if Neverland shares some Lost backbone with 'life extension' themes and/or spirits and/or astral projections of the dead existing there)
Depending on where Jamie Chang stands with Believe, she might end up being guessed cast on OUAT.

ReplyDeleteI'll believe it when I see it. She was also a regular in Season 2 and we were promised lots of stuff with her and they did zero with her, even when it would have made sense.
ReplyDeleteThey dropped her storyline to make room for the Neverland arc which I really don't understand. I'm pretty sure they could have found a way to somehow include both storylines into show so I really don't get their reasoning for mistreating Meghan like this.

ReplyDeleteI am glad this show has secondary characters, some shows lack it and become too boring because of it, but I wish they could keep their actors and still do storyline with them. It saddens me when characters fall back in the crowd when they were important in the 1st season.
ReplyDeleteWell with Intelligence being bid season I was expecting her to come back.... now whether she'll be back just to be killed off, or put in a coma or something else to justify her absence, that's a WHOLE other story....
ReplyDeleteI am very excited about Intelligence but it really is too bad that they reduced Red's role up to the point that this happened. I love Red, one of my favorite characters. So, a lot of mixed feelings here. I hope she can do some cool appearances on OUAT
