Intelligence - Showrunner Rene Echevarria Exits

11 Jul 2013

Rene Echevarria joined CBS’ midseason drama pilot Intelligence as executive producer/showrunner in February to partner with creator/executive producer Michael Seitzman in running the series for ABC Studios and CBS TV Studios. Now we’ve learned he has left the series. I’ve heard that the spilt, which happened yesterday, was amicable. It’s unclear at this point what the structure will be on the show.

  1. Well i don't know what to say about that. But it's not looking good if the showrunner leaves the show before even the pilot is shown on tv.

  2. I always get worried whenever a showrunner departs, but I guess we'll just wait and see if there is a noticeable change in tone/direction in the show between outgoing/incoming (if there are enough episodes filmed)

  3. I am looking forward to this series. Hope this doesn't affect much. My main concern is that because mid-season is a long time away from now, it may derail even further before the show even starts airing...

  4. If they feel the need to make a change, it's good that they're making the change at the beginning of the production process and not during.

  5. This lowers my expectations a great deal honestly....

I had doubts based on premise and early word of mouth being less than stellar, but a change of showrunner in the middle of filming the first season like this is rarely a positive for a series.

I'm still hoping, but...... ALCATRAZ keeps popping in my mind.

  6. Showrunner leaving before pilot airs, that's can't be good.

  7. And here's another one of those. Usually not a good sign...
I'll say this, seeing as my first impressions of the show from all those promos weren't as awesome as I was hoping, shake up in the creative department this early might be a good thing in the long run. Wait and see I guess....

  8. And there goes what little interest I had left in the show.

  9. I am very excited about Intelligence but this is never a very good sign IMO
