The co-creator and showrunner on NBC’s new high-concept drama has left the show. Sources tell Deadline that Mark Friedman (The Forgotten, Home Of The Brave) made the decision to exit Believe, from Warner Bros Television and Bad Robot Productions, on his own accord and that the parting was agreeable.

What's with the showrunners leaving shows this year? Are they just like meh, I got it on TV, let the others do the hard work?
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering about this as well.
ReplyDeleteA showrunner leaving, never bodes well for a show. Here's hoping production isn't impacted too much.
ReplyDeleteOh, boy. This is bad news. It's one thing to switch cast around, it's another to loose a show-runner, whom is also a writer. At least on Alcatraz, Sarnoff stayed on as executive consoltant.
ReplyDeleteI hope I'm wrong and this still turns out ok. I really like the premise.
That's a lot of showrunners leaving their shows this year. What's going on?
ReplyDeleteYikes,here we go...
ReplyDeleteIt always makes me suspicious that the network is interfering too much with the show and that's never good.
ReplyDeleteThat's always my feeling too.
ReplyDeletewhen one showrunners leave there is another to replace. all is good. every showrunner was a noob in the start. let them grow.
ReplyDeleteMe three...
ReplyDeleteWell it's not uncommon....
ReplyDeleteAmicable or not, not great news for a show like this.
ReplyDeleteAt least Alphonso is still there...
I will say it also depends on the show. If it was a run on the mill procedural I don't think it would have been that bi a deal. For for a show like this, it probably will make a difference.
ReplyDeleteYep true! --I know the networks try and push procedural on Abram's gang a lot. I think that is why Revolution basically has these mini arcs with like 3/4 procedural-like episodes between more serialized episodes....
ReplyDeleteI thought I read somewhere that Believe was going to try and go down that road as we follow Tate and Bo from city to city, but I also know, unless they changed their mind again, that at the Upfronts. A,C. had said that Bo isn't the only one out there with abilities, but rather the one that represents innocents, so they might also do a "telekinetic person of the week" thing too.
" I think that is why Revolution basically has these mini arcs with like 3/4 procedural-like episodes between more serialized episodes...."
ReplyDeleteActually with Revolution I think it's easy to assume that wasn't a network pushing for a procedural feel. That could have easily been ALL Kripke. Eric likes and is capable of balancing a good mix of the two aspects.
But I get your point.
Honestly, personally I'm not opposed to the "story of the week with an overall myth arc" model, but again it depends on the show...
IMO in this case, for a show that does have a heavy mythology incorporated in its DNA and even if it can function in an occasional procedural model, losing one of the brains behind the mythology could be hurtful..
