I will always lean toward genre and the only show I watch live is Supernatural, but also like Person of Interest, both NCIS, White Collar, Suits but can not stand "reality" shows that aren't really.
Dramas. SpoilerTV shows I watch include Castle, Grey's Anatomy, Mistresses, Nashville, Once upon a ..., Scandal, The Good Wife, all 7 current CW dramas, Grimm, Parenthood, Hannibal, Bates Motel, Breaking Bad, Hell on Wheels, Mad Men, The Killing, The Walking Dead, Switched at Birth, Pretty Little Liars, American Horror Story, Justified, Sons of Anarchy, The Americans, Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, Girls, The Newsroom, Dexter, Homeland, House of Lies, Ray Donovan, Shameless, Dallas, Falling Skies, Burn Notice, Graceland, Suits, White Collar, Psych, Banshee, Da Vinci's Demons, House of Cards, Hemlock Grove, Magic City, Orphan Black, and Downton Abbey.
About all I watch other than that is Survivor and the Fox animated comedies.
yeah, i don't like reality shows either, even if i was paid to watch them. there's just too many on these days- the voice, dancing with the stars, masterchef, the x factor, idol... over in australia there's this renovating show called the block, then there's the weekly 5:30pm show deal or no deal, bondi vet, farmer wants a wife etc. never in a million years have i seen heaps of reality shows on australian tv. it seems like there's not much space for aussie shows or even american imports, which is why i watch most of my tv shows on my computer through various streaming sources.
I voted genre, but it's not necessarily sci-fi/fantasy for me as much as anything with a strong element of action/mystery/thriller. Nikita is my favorite show right now and I used to love shows like Alias (admittedly got a bit sci-fi but I actually hated that), Damages and Veronica Mars. Not sure why but I'm not into comedies these days. Dramas can be good but I guess I'm looking for something more exciting, hence the attraction to genre shows. And I wouldn't come near the hideous dreck known as "reality TV" if you paid me.
I'm attracted to Genre (SciFi/Fantasy ) although that doesn't describe my likes exactly. I love shows that push the boundries of Man's knowledge and investigate beyond our day to day reality like SPN, X-Files, Alias, Lost, Person of inrerest, even Star Trek. I love shows with some kind of mystery going through them or shows that deal with alternate realities.
I watch a lot of different kind of shows, mostly dramas, comedies and genre shows. Not too... horror-y shows though, I'm too much of a coward! Plus I'm a sucker for happy endings so horror isn't really my thing.
And I never watch any reality shows. Seriously, never ever.
I watch mostly genre shows (Buffy, Angel, Arrow, Lost, Once, TVD, Grimm, etc.) and some dramas (Revenge, PLL, etc.) The only procedural I watch is POI.
Going with "mix" -- Drama: Mad Men, Breaking Bad, The Good Wife, Hannibal, Suits, Justified, etc. Fantasy/Sci-fi: Supernatural, Game of Thrones, American Horror Story, Fringe (RIP), etc. Comedy: Parks & Rec, 30 Rock (RIP), Always Sunny, etc.
I watch a mix but watch more dramas/primetimes soaps than anything else. This summer /next season I'm watching: Dramadey:drop dead diva,I think Bunheads(if it gets renewed) & HoD are listed as dramas but they're dramadeys. Comedey:TBBT,2 broke girls Genre:VD,OUAT,BatB,OUaTIW,The Originals Reality:ANTM,Breaking Pointe Dramas:Switched at Birth, Pretty Little Liars,Mistresess,Rizzoli & Isels,Client List,Lying Game,(if they get renewed),Carrie Diaries,Reign,Nashville,Devious Maids
I don't know why but over the last few years I've really liked crime procedurals. They're about 1/4 of the shows that I watch. What's nice is that USA and TNT (and sometimes Spike) rerun some of my favorites daily so when I'm unemployed, I can just turn on one of those channels during the day. I do watch comedies and dramas but for the most part, I watch crime procedurals.
i definitely watch a lot of drama, yet I've also been watching a fair amount of sci-fi too.
drama: family shows- parenthood, packed to the rafters, october road teen dramas- kyle xy, roswell, veronica mars, one tree hill, switched at birth cop/police procedual/mystery- monk, psych, white collar, the mentalist, castle, person of interest, sherlock, elementary, life on mars (bbc), ashes to ashes, rizolli and isles, perception, the glades, rookie blue, lie to me, longmire, mr and mrs murder, unforgettable, the finder, cracked (cbc), the following lawyer shows- fairly legal, suits fantasy/sci-fi- eureka, OUAT, defiance, orphan black, touch, alphas, tru calling, terminator- the sarah connor chronicles, arrow medical drama- royal pains, hart of dixie shows which don't fit anywhere else- necessary roughness, chuck, smash, the newsroom, the americans, ringer, being erica
there are also plenty of shows that i do want to see in the future, like SHIELD, Bones, Friday Night Lights, Burn Notice and In Plain Sight.
I haven't really been much into comedies, but just recently I saw go on on nbc, ben and kate on fox, and seed on citytv. also looking forward to the michael j fox show, back in the game and the crazy ones coming in september.
I can't stand the comedies with laugh tracks, nor do I watch any reality tv shows.
I watch a mix, with more dramas & SciFi/Fantasy & procedurals/mystery, some comedy & animation, no reality (oh! unless you count Food Network & Travel channel's cooking/food shows). I voted genre, since the poll asked what we watched "most".
I'll watch comedies during the day such as Parks and Rec and Community on my 40" and when it gets dark (frustratingly late during the Summer), I'll be watching drama marathons such as 24, The Walking Dead on my 120" projector! I love sci-fi and fantasy such as OUAT, GOT, Fringe, Doctor Who etc and do indulge in reality during the day, but more to laugh at how bad it is! So bad it's good! All in all I have a very versatile palette when it comes to TV! From Dallas to American Horror Story to Bates Motel to HIMYM! I've got at least 40-50 shows on TV this season and a good other 100-200 or so in my Blu-ray/DVD collection!
I watch a lot of DRAMA. The Good Wife, Breaking Bad, Bates Motel, Downton Abbey, Pretty Little Liars, The Newsroom, Grey's and Scandal.
HIMYM, Modern Family, TBBT, Web Therapy and Veep are the only comedies I watch (well, and Girls, but I don't think that is a comedy).
As for SciFi/Fantasy I watch OUAT, Game of Thrones, Doctor Who, American Horror Story, Utopia and the Walking Dead, and want to check S.H.I.E.L.D this fall. Oh, and I loved Fringe.
And I hate reality shows. I voted a mix of everything.
I lean a little bit more towards sci fi/fantasy shows but I watch a pretty good mix of everything except reality, soaps, animation, and anything that focuses mostly on romance.
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/genre - ergo, comedy is a genre, horror too, historical dramas too, etc.
As for my taste, I watch a mix of everything but I have pre-conceived notions that usually make me want to avoid certain types of series: procedurals/cop shows, teen dramas, medical dramas, romantic comedies, multi-cam sitcoms, soap-operas. And obviously reality, I don't care for that.
But thankfully, there are plenty of exceptions, like The Shield and SouthLAnd (cop shows), Buffy, Freaks & Geeks and Friday Night Lights (teen drama), Seinfeld, Friends, HIMYM and TBBT (multi-camera), etc. And I'm not bothered by romantic elements when they're done right : Chuck/Sarah on Chuck, Vaughn/Sidney on Alias, Olivia/Peter on Fringe, Jimmy/Sabrina on Raising Hope, etc.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Pretty much everything except for realities.
ReplyDeleteI'm a SciFi/Mystery fan. That are the shows I'm usually most excited for...

I love the distribution in this poll right now. Pretty much 1/3 Drama, 1/3 Genre, and 1/3 Mix of Everything.
ReplyDeleteI watch mostly genre shows (Buffy, Angel, Arrow, Lost, Once, TVD, Grimm, etc.) and some dramas (Revenge, PLL, etc.) The only procedural I watch is POI.
ReplyDeleteSome sci fi, NO animations, no sitcoms.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the definition :)
ReplyDeleteI also have pre-conceived notions that I usually end up breaking because I start to watch those shows anyway lol
I watch almost everything but reality shows (and procedurals).
ReplyDeleteDefinitely like a mixture of genres from dramas, to comedy's to reality
ReplyDeleteno 'reality'; only 1 comedy, mostly sct-fi and drama
ReplyDeleteI watch drama, medical drama, procedural, comedy and SciFi/Fantasy.

ReplyDeleteObjectively I do have an affinity towards "hybrid" shows and genre stuff but overall I'm easy with what I'm willing to watch...
