I voter 4-8 but also wanted to vote for 4-10 because of Lois (Erica) the moment they put her in the show, the show transformed and began to be more than just Smallville it became Superman. It was great addition and well it just made it better.
Maybe the only time in history I would say seasons 8, 9 and 10 were the best.
Season 1 was cool, but very procedural. The "kryptonite mutant" of the week stuff didn't work nearly as much as the more dramatic elements. I found 2 through 4 too heavy on the soap, too heavy on the whine.
I liked 5 visually, but if fell apart half way through, and 6 and 7 were utter slogs. The Lana stuff needed to die a horrible death, and when it finally did, the show got way more pleasant.
I loved 10 and 9 Kelly souders and Brian Peterson did great! Also loved 4 and 5 thought those were awesome and for my 5th it was tough between 2 and 7 (i didnt like the clark sitting on his ass 7th season but i loved the single episodes alot especially with dark lex and brainiac and kara). I chose 7. After top 5 it would probably go 2, 1, 6, and 3. 3 was just too dark way to dark and depressing a lot and it felt off compared to the rest of the series. Plus I liked the zoners :).
Based strictly on the poll I will say Season 1 because it was the first and held the most firmly to the show's original premise before it went off and generally assaulted the proud history of Superman.
Don't get me wrong. Smallville was an entertaining show with some genuinely good moments in the 10 years it was on TV. But by and large it was bad and for the most part should not be associated with Superman canon.
I am in my forties and have watched many Superman shows including the Super Friends on Saturday mornings as a child I have watched multiple times the Christopher Reeve films (all four of them even the crappy Quest for Peace) for many years in high school I collected all of the Superman comic book titles. Despite its mixed reviews I for one did enjoy Superman Returns. I consider myself a true Superman fan.
Based on this I can safely say I have the moral authority to say that Smallville was not a good show and did a terrible injustice to Superman. I am and continue to be bewildered at some the fan girl gushing that went on and continues to go on for this show.
Tom Welling did a surprisingly good job with the material he had. But the mere fact that he refused to play the character in full costume in the end means that he should not EVER be listed among the actors that have played "SUPERMAN". Because he didn't.
I voted 1-4 and 9 because 1-4 were the seasons that featured Lex as a (mostly) good guy and I found it fascinating to see him become the man from the comics. And 9 for the same reason, you got to see Zod go from a probably okay guy to someone that had to be stopped.
You have a right to your opinion yes, but moral authority no since this isn't an issue of morality. That being said while I agree Smallville was very flawed I wouldn't go so far as saying it was bad.
9 & 10 I stopped watching when Rosenbaum left....well actually during the last part of his tenure because I thought the Lex becomes evil turn was too abrupt and didn't make sense. Lex had always been the only reason I watched the show. When TNT started airing it in syndication they started with the latter seasons due to contract issues. 3 AM nothing else was on so I started watching and got hooked. 10 was my fav....I loved Lois being in the know and Lois and Clark working as a couple.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteI went for 1,4,8,9,10. The final three seasons were just the best for me. And S1 has a special place because that's when I fell in love with the show.

I voted only Season 8 because I think it was MUCH better than every other season! Maybe it's just me, but I enjoyed this season so much...
ReplyDeleteMy favorite season are:
ReplyDelete4 > 10 > 9 > 1 > 7 > 6 > 5 > 3 > 2 > 8
Clark and Lois rules *-*
For me it's Season 1, 9, and 10.

ReplyDeleteSeason 4, because Jensen Ackles was in it, and I am very shallow! LOL
ReplyDelete2,3,10,6,7
ReplyDeleteOne of the best shows
surprised to see 9 and 10 winning cause it started to go downhill after season 5. S1,2 and 3 in my opinion

ReplyDeleteyeah lol probably but I don't know all the Brainiac / daily planet / Lois & Clark story-lines gave the feeling that the story went few level up.

ReplyDeleteI voted for 8, 9, & 10.
ReplyDeleteThe show got darker, more adult, and they swapped out Lana for the awesome Tess Mercer.
Voted 5 and 6.
ReplyDeletefor me: 6 > 5 > 4 > 8 > 10 > 7 > 3 > 1 > 2 > 9
7-9 for obvious reasons, loved that they got rid of the annoying lana/clark ship
