One poll down, 16 episodes retired from the contest. Overall most polls weren't even close. The two that just missed moving on were PossessedSam's taunt to Jo about her father and Dean's vow to kill the Benders if they touched Sam. Today's polls work just like yesterday's. I was with you until poll 21 and went with Dean: "This is dangerous and you could get hurt." poll 22 & 23 were opposite from you, but did go with buckets of crazy.
ReplyDeleteSome of these were really hard to choose because I loved both. I found I generally went with the short snarky quotes rather than the long emotional ones but I do just love deans speech over johns grave in WiaWSNB.

I expect Dean's graveside weepfest to go far in the contest. As for 22, I like the burger comment but it can't compare to Schoolhouse Rock for me. I still use those videos with my students.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'll vote for the other one on #26 and we'll balance each other out. As for 31, at that time they had only used salt for ghosts. It's not until later that they are using it for demons.

ReplyDeleteThanks! I have found that the more I dig into Supernatural's dialogue the more great there is to find. It's been a long project but I know SPN a whole lot better than I did even last year. I hope others have had fun revisiting these great quotes too.

ReplyDeletePoll 17: I really like both of these quotes but for pure laugh out loud funny, it's Dracula and the Pizza Guy for me. I will never hear the word "coupon" without snickering again. I loved this scene.
Poll 18: Intense, Big Brother Dean for the win. Croatoan had all kinds of brother moments but this was one of the best. It's not about logic. It's about family and being there.
Poll 19: I am one of the few that is going for the serious quote in this one. This was the moment for me when Dean finally broke free of the mental hold John had on him. He realized that he was an important person in his own right and that he deserved better than hell. Very intense, amazing monologue.
Poll 20: Oh, this one's hard. The Phantom Traveler line is just classic but the Snow White one made me laugh. I think I'll go with short and sweet here. Metallica for the win.
Poll 21: I'm crushed that these two are against each other. This is my absolute favorite line in a sucky episode versus my favorite brother scene in an awesome episode. If it were an episode contest there would be no contest. Sadly it's about the lines so I'll have to think on it.
Poll 22: Schoolhouse Rock - definitely! First off I love the ode to my past. Makes me nostalgic for Saturday morning cartoons. Mostly though it is one of my absolute favorite Sam lines of the series. I really hope it goes far.
Poll 23: What is and What Should Never Be is my favorite SPN episode and the graveside conversation is my least favorite part of it. It was okay before season 5's whinefest but now it's on fast forward. The silly bikini inspector line gets my vote by default.
Poll 24: Dean's message to John was heartbreaking and it is the point at which I knew I disliked John. It's going to win by a landslide and it probably deserves it. I however am voting for buckets of crazy because I love that line and I have used it in everyday life.
Poll 25: Again I am going against the grain because I never found that unicorn line as funny as most people, even after Plucky's. It's 10 year old boy humor to me. However I love the dialogue, reactions, and had gestures when Dean confesses he fears flying. This is when I knew Jensen was going to be comedy gold on Supernatural.
ReplyDeletePoll 26: Neither. I actually hate both of these lines. So sad they are against each other because that means one of them, probably Cas, will be moving on when so many great lines are already out.
Poll 27: Yikes! It's the most agonizing speech ever given vs. a funny season 5 line and those were hard to come by. In the end, I will bow to the majority simply because Dean's speech over Sam's dead body was brilliantly acted and absolutely heartbreaking.
Poll 28: I'm going to surprise myself and go emoangsty again. That's far more times in one day than I ever expected. However I didn't like the "red-headed woman" part of the first quote. It was always a bit off-putting to me because Scully was so much more than that. Usually I like X-Files references but not so much this one.
Poll 29: Pilot quote. Dean admitting that he can hunt alone but doesn't want to is the heart of his character especially in the first 3 seasons. For me this sums up a large part of the show.
Poll 30: While the definition of lying always makes me smile and I really wish the Winchesters would remember this in the future, The End quote wins simply for "the voice says I'm almost out of minutes." Love that quote.
Poll 31: If we hadn't just done the Dead Man's Blood podcast I probably would have picked the salt quote, but since it is bothering more that Dean says demons instead of ghosts, I'm going for Dean giving Robosam props. RoboSam was vastly underappreciated.
Poll 32: This one is very tough because out of all 256 quotes that made it into the contest, these would be in my top 30. Saying helping others avoid the same fate they did means a whole lot to me and helps shape Dean's motivation for hunting. I found it eye opening and important. However Sam apologizing for ragging on Dean about orders after the whole Asylum and Scarecrow debacle was an important step for me with enjoying Sam's character more in late season 1, especially in the rewatches. It made Sam seem more grownup to me and I liked that he was starting to see his brother in a new light away from old prejudices. I will probably cast my vote very late in this one because both quotes mean a lot to me.
