Royal Pains - 5.03 - Lawson Translation - Preview

Royal Pains airs on Wednesdays at 9/8 C on USA Network

It's an action-packed adventure on Royal Pains this Wednesday. Due to an unchecked box, the staff of HankMed find themselves with an unplanned 72 hour vacation. That leaves Divya and Jeremiah flying to Savannah, while Hank decides to go to Budapest to consult with Boris' cousin Milos about Dmitri. Evan stays home to fight Ballard in the village hall. With signatures from every neighbor except her agreeing to zoning changes, Evan is confident the battle is won but Ballard has other ideas. She's been playing Southampton politics for far too long to be deterred. Her vendetta seems personal as she plays every trick she can think of to keep HankMed from operating.

Meanwhile in Savannah, the Symphony hospital is a medical miracle in itself. Both Divya and Jeremiah are impressed by the fact that there's no waiting room and the emergency room is so efficient. Their partnership is less so. Trying to hide his feelings, Jeremiah comes off as curt and unpleasant leaving Divya feeling puzzled and hurt. It even gets in the way of the case of the week, a minor league baseball player whose knee keeps giving out on him. Jeremiah and he bond over baseball and we learn that the game has special significance to Jeremiah. It's fun to see Jeremiah passionate about something. It adds dimension and a little back story to his character.

However by the far the best part of the episode for me takes place in Budapest. Hank meets with Milos and discovers that he has the same bone density problems as Boris, but more severe as Milos is in a wheelchair. After agreeing to look into Milos' medical history, Hank calls Evan to share in the beauty of Budapest. Suddenly Hank is drugged and kidnapped, a reminding of why it is never good for Hank to get involved with Boris' family. Things move rapidly downhill from there as Hank gets caught in the middle.

Episode Awards (Usually I have seen the whole episode before doing these, but the screener fizzled out with about 10 minutes to go. These could change after I have seen the entire episode.)

Best lines:

"Hey our non-business is sending you to Europe. Show a little gratitude."
"Obviously explanations are in order."
"Watching baseball is seeing the impossible become possible."
"Well brothers are never simple."

Best reason to watch: tie - Dmitri and plot twists
Best fictional reason to move to Savannah: Savannah General Hospital - seriously the place is amazing
Best character moment: Jeremiah bonds with pateint
Best guest character: Tripp
Worst guest character: Ballard - she's evil

  1. "Obviously explanations are in order." This seems like something Boris could say to Hank after Hank finds out he is alive.

  2. This episode has a lot of twists, including a dead body. For me it's the best of the season so far.

  4. Lots of things happen in this episode of Royal Pains. Of course anytime Boris' family is involved things get tense. I also really liked seeing Jeremiah bond with the patient of the week this time. It was a nice change.
