  2. fantastic finale! Hannibal chilling smile in the last scene when he comes to visit Will had me yelling at the tv! (loved the use of the beautiful music from the movie hannibal) who am i kidding? I yelled during the entire episode!

Poor Will Graham. How will he prove his innocence now? The only way I see his that someone will recognize the ches. ripper signature when Hannibal will kill again.

  3. Ah, you should sometime (and Hannibal too! I thought both the film and novels were good. -And for Hannibal Rising I loved the book and felt the movie really didn't do the novel justice, although I like the actors chosen)

I def think that other stuff could seem superficial to viewer who isn't so familiar with the rest of the works, so I can understand the skepticism, although I like mini stories that reflect bigger ones.

For me it's been exceptional being able to see these characters and scenes allude to others. It makes it exciting to know that those things we know that exist in Harris' or the films' worlds are still here, making Hannibal's reality all the more curious.

Yeah, I'm not sure if they've done it as little easter eggs for everyone who's read the trilogy (I'm not counting the 4th book, it was ok at best) or because they just want to play with the universe but there have been dozens of parallels throughout the series so far to Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs. It's incredibly entertaining.

  5. I don't know if you have seen the films or read any of the novels, but the characters and sanarios in the filler stories are highly reflective of other prominent characters in those works. Additionally all of those episodes solidified the themes. Themes about forming friendships vs experimentation (professional curiosity), *emulating, longing for identity (to be seen), primal or civility (survival of the fittest), subjective reality. And of course the minor characters reflected/paralleled certain aspects of either Dr. Lecter or Will Graham. -Especially in Lecter's case, because he choose to copy cat a lot of those other killer's work...and also trying to hide his own (Chesapeake Riper) -There's an intentional duality there that we should be curious about.

Because this is more exclusively a prequel to Red Dragon (Relates mildly to book of Revelation via paintings of William Blake) at the moment, there are also just a bit of Biblical references, such as Garrett JACOB Hobbs and ABIGAIL Hobbs, along with the sinners turned angels episode (episode 5 I think--which the man has aspects of both Buffalo Bill and the Tooth Fairy)

I think a lot of stories crossed over into others, so they weren't all that exclusive. It was done in way where I think it was hard to figure out what would come next, because Hannibal nearly boxed himself into a corner by trying to impress (and control) Will.

  6. I´m not sure if Abigail is dead already or if we will see her die within the first few episodes. She is a great part of the story, so I think they will keep her in for as long as they can. Maybe she will follow Will around in season 2.

  7. "Oh God, Chilton is going to get his hands on Will. That should be fun."

    THIS! :D

  8. I seriously will never stop thinking about that last scene. "Hello, Will"...."Hello, Dr. Lecter". And then Hannibal gives an epic smirk. PERFECT! Every time that droning noise came on, I got chills. That noise seriously gives me the creeps. Seeing Alana scream and yell broke my heart because even though she began to believe Will is a serial killer and say that he is, deep down she knew that there was absolutely no way. And once again, the makeup on this show is fantastic! Seeing all of the dead bodies in their "statue" form was so gorgeous. I could not stop looking at them. And that damn Wendigo. The moment I saw the Wendigo in the episode, I immediately flashed back to the Supernatural episode and I remembered how terrified I was seeing that thing and for me to see it in Hannibal terrified me all over again. Lots of heart stopping moments (when Will was pointing the gun at Hannibal, Jack coming in to the Minnesota house, and when Jack shot Will). Speaking of Jack shooting Will, Jack shot him in the EXACT same corner Garrett Jacob Hobbs got shot. Genius! All in all, I really enjoyed the conclusion to season 1 of this amazing show and I cannot wait for season 2. Definitely my top 3 favorite season finales this season.

P.S. Bryan Fuller tweeted that the season 2 premiere title is called "Kaiseki" so all of the season 2 titles will be Japanese courses.

    SO MANY PARALLELS.
And that Wendigo had me seriously uncomfortable the entire episode. Best show I've seen in YEARS.

Great episode, the whole "Hello, Dr. Lecter" at the end made me do the whole fist pump in the air thing.

Anyone else seriously hoping that Gillian Anderson gets added as a regular. She's added a great deal to the cast as a whole.

  11. It's a twist on "Hello, Clarice" but it is also Will saying "Hello" to the real Hannibal for the first time.

  12. I have watched Silence of the Lambs. Haven't watched or read Red Dragon. :(

  13. It's somewhat evident that they both know her "attacker" and maybe even why he/she attacked, (She seemed to imply Hannibal is responsible in some way) Her character's surname is most likely a reference to Daphne Du Maurier the writer of such interesting murder-horror-romance-mystery novels such as tree works that are made into film by Hitchchock: "THE BIRDS", "Rebecca", and "Jamaica Inn"...I would also assume the character has bi-sexuality issues as well...

In the Lecter novels many wildlife or farm animals such as deer/stag, birds (starlings, swans, ect), pigs, lambs/sheep are thematically used to allude to the idea of survival of the fittest verses civilization, which represents the crux of whom Hannibal is. What is it to be human when man has been both civilized and primitive, or is civility (domestication) all a front to make the game more enjoyable?!

The Stag IMO is Hannibal, as like the antler's through the women's flesh, did Hannibal murder them. The idea that Will no longer sees the Stag, but instead a 'stag-man', is the idea of pulling back a layer, because the truth about the murders and Hannibal is no longer "majestic", they have lost their innocence, because the beast now has the conscious actions of a man--putting a face and a human identity on it all.

You might not be able to be better friends with someone, until you pull back a few layers.

    "I see you!"

But, because of Will's empathical nature, it might also be furthered by the idea that a barrier has been removed, and Will might not just being seeing Hannibal clearer, but also being closer to able to be like Hannibal...The Stag that once was separate, could now be morphing into Will! (This would also make make sense if Will actually murdered Abigail, because he too is no longer innocent)

(The stag man reminded me of Donnie Darko)

  14. wauw, more than 92% voted awesome. I´m glad the show is getting a lot of love. This was a truely brilliant season end. Loved all the little references to the books and movies, very well done.

Though I can´t wait for season 2, I can´t help but wonder how it is gonna work. The dynamic between Will and Hannibal (the chemistry between Mikkelsen and Dancy), worked really really well for me, but that has to change now. I hope they still get some scenes together.

  15. Is there a category beyond "awesome"? Cause this would be it. Wow, just wow. Will finally knows (part of) the truth about Lecter, he can "see him" now, but nobody will believe him. Let the games begin! Hannibal is such a bastard, but look on the bright side- Will is getting treatment for his encephalitis and his brain is no longer cooking itself! Hannibal, you can keep smirking all you like, you bastard- I know my baby Will will be coming out swinging and will give you a taste of your own medicine.

Oh God, Chilton is going to get his hands on Will. That should be fun.
