  2. As always, this season finale was awesome. Now, we'll have to wait like 9 months for season 4, and that's depressing. See you Game of Thrones fandom! :)

    ReplyDelete
  3. GoT needs 2-hour finales :).

    ReplyDelete
  4. Pretty disappointing for a season finale. "The Rains Of Castamere" should have been their season ender.

I remember last year when a producer said every episode of the third season would be as big as a season finale. They pretty much were. Except for the ACTUAL season finale. So boring.

    I thought so, too.

  7. I'm shocked about how awful and boring that season finale was. It was a filler episode at best. Wow. Feeling let down by GOT big time

They pace it like that on purpose. They want to hit you with the huge storyline peak in episode 9 and from there in the final episode deal with the aftermath and set it up for the next season. Although I personally also would've liked another big scene like the march of the White Walkers last year.

  9. Wow 12 out of 60 votes are for poor or awful. That's 20 percent Way to high for a season finale.

  10. Honestly I loved it.
I never expected a cliffhanger or a twist or some climax-filled action. Not how Thrones does finales.

Episode 9 of each season is the climax and episode 10 is denouement.

    Loved how they introduced Reek.
    - Loved the entire Dragonstone arc this week.
    - Loved the entire Bran arc (not a normal for me!)
    - Loved King's Landing..

A few things were lackluster to me... at least somewhat.
    - Jon and Ygritte's unnecessary scene. She should have shot him last week. It was a time waster this week. I did like Aemon and Sam though.
    - I found the Mysha scene a bit humdrum and cheesy. Dany being lifted up moved me a little, but then they brought her back down and I came down too.

Overall I liked this episode a lot!!!
Some of the best dialog of the season. Nice lengthy scenes. A perfect wrap up and set up for next year. Kudos.

  11. One more scene of the march. One guy in the back, "Are we there yet?"

    ReplyDelete
  12. Oh come on, it was an OK finale but it wasn't AWFUL. That's just taking it too far.

    ReplyDelete
  13. The reveal was a letdown, but damn, is that guy playing Ramsay disturbing as hell. I thought the guy was an a-hole in the books, but ... yow. That kid deserves an Emmy.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I agree so much, I didn't find anything bad about the episode and I don't get the massive hate at all.

Many great scenes, and of course it was no shocker like episode 9, but people should know the GoT season structure by now...

    Anyway, loved it too =)

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yeah I may dislike how much time was spent on Theon this year, but I loved Iwan Rheon as Ramsay Bolton!

    ReplyDelete
  16. He definitely made those Theon scenes worth the time spent on them. I mean, I'm not a Theon hater by an stretch, but for me, that was more about introducing the audience to the Sadism of Ramsay more than anything else. But it was kinda nice to get some glimpses of the torture that turned Theon into Reek. Bet Alfie Allen's glad that's all behind him now. No more hanging on an X for 10 hours a day.

    ReplyDelete
  17. It accomplished that task... and then some.

It just comes down to personal favorites for the most part I think. Personally I think we could have had one or two less Theon scenes and one or two more Wildling or Arya scenes. Maybe one of each and toss in more Varys dammit! XD

    ReplyDelete
  18. I think you're right. People wanted to see their favorites. And most of my favorites played a big role in tonight's, esp. Davos. They've had to ignore him so much on the show, when he's really one of the most level-headed and right thinking characters in the entirety of Westeros. But I do wonder if that means they're giving Gendry a storyline in King's Landing, assuming he makes it there and doesn't drift off to Myr or wherever it was Edric Storm was taken in the books.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'm hoping he makes it to the Riverlands and a certain Inn where he can rescue a certain giantess next season.

I wonder if they will have Gendry accompany her on her quest as well. Insert Gendry for random hedge knights or Ser Hyle Hunt. Maybe even take Pod's place? Pod is very minor in the series and Gendry is more featured.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Pretty OK, but not awesome. It lacked of a certain something. It was a good standard episode, but not really a finale episode

    ReplyDelete
  21. It'd be great if he did make it back to where he was. Then the BWOB would be, "WTF? Where'd you come from?" Then he can shoot them all in the knee.

Thinking on it, I'd really rather like Gendry as opposed to Pod. Pod was great in the books, one of my fave minor characters, but the show ... eh. I'm still wondering what the greater reason for his prowess with the ladies is supposed to mean in the long run. Seems sort of pointless right now. But Gendry's more established and it'd be interesting to see him working with that certain character, given his commentary on nobles and how they treat smallfolk.

  22. Great finale! Loved Theon appearing once more and the ever disturbing Ramsay, the surprise appearance by Balon Grejoy, Arya's awesome scene with the Freys, Davos as usual, and lots more! Don't let yourself be told that this finale was "disappointing", because people are surely expecting way too much - at least those who don't know that episode 9 is always the "big" one and episode 10 paves the way for the next year.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Series-Pod has never worked for me.

Book-Pod was so perfect as the preteen boy whowas smart and tried hard. The way he tried to please and just be a good person was a nice contrast to most everybody else in the books.

Show-Pod has always felt more awkward to me, and not the awkwardness of youth. The role just flet off when played by a muscular fit man.

IF I recall the sexgod Pod jokes were something that just amused D&D. They put it in and liked it so much they added another scene on topic. No real value or foreshadowing I guess.

At one point I thought they may use Pod to be a patsy for Cersei next season in place of a Kettleblack or Jalabhar Xho.... I do not think that now.

  24. I'm not sure the actor playing him is that great at his job, either. A small role like that, a great actor could make him memorable. We've seen it before on this show. Another I thought was poorly cast on this series was Lancel Lannister. Something about him never quite clicked for me.

OT, the other thing I was glad about in this episode was the clarification it was Ramsay who laid waste to Winterfell, not the Iron Born. I kept telling people that since the last season finale and they wouldn't believe me.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Non-readers sometimes missed the hints.

Like going from Robb and Bolton segueing Ramsay scenes, or Ramsay being called a little bastard when he killed his own men. Or of course the obvious Bolton banner of the flayed man and Theon being on the same x- rack with a cuffed man on it! XD

I'm sure I left out some hints too honestly. I thought they foreshadowed it nicely.

    ReplyDelete
  26. This was great! I found myself not hating the characters I usually do, like theon's sister and Sam, also I've taken a new interest in Davos, I had never given him much thought but after this episode I relized I like his character quit a lot. Loved Danny as usual, hope they manage to sneak in scenes about her next season.

Agreed on Theon. Didn't really see any point in all that.

    ReplyDelete
  28. The end last weeks end was horrible!
"Monsters are dangerous. And just now kings are dying like flys" I love Tyrion. I would also comment something like Joffrey is insane, but we know that for 3 seasons by now.
"Every man who must say I am the king is no true king" For once I agree with Tywin.
Stupid Joffrey, just stupid. Challenging his granpa again?
I have more and more respect for Tyrion with every episode.
I was wondering what happened to Theon.
Okay, could someone remind me, why Bran is going on the other side of the wall? He planned on going there, cause his friend (I forgot his name) saw Jon with the wildlings. But Bran now knows that Jon is here. He saw him thru his wolfs eyes. So, why is he still going instead of trying to find his family (or what's left of it)?
    Aryas first kill. I'm impressed.
I can't believe, Ygritte shot Jon. I mean I know she said she would kill him and I believed her back then. But I hoped that she would love him more than she would hate him.
Ah, Melisandre my dear. It's not hard to foresee a war with the Walkers in the fire if you get a note from the Watch that they are coming.
I loved the end. That is how Dany will win the war. Not with fear. But with loyal people that would kill and die for her.

    ReplyDelete
  29. How long?!?!?!? That is torture!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Or 23 ep seasons :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Pretty good finale. Of course can't top last week but that's not the point of it, we're seeing the aftermath. There were a few scenes I enjoyed quite a bit.

-Absolutely loved Tyrion then Tywin giving Joffrey a verbal smackdown and Tywin sending little baby Joffrey off to bed. Even though he's a dick, I do actually like Tywin.
-Poor Sansa, she was making the best of the situation with Tyrion and seemed happy with the thought of pulling a prank on someone until she found out about Robb.

-Cersei and Tyrion's conversations are always great and its weird seeing them actually talk like a brother and sister.
-Arya getting a little revenge was nice, I had the biggest smile on my face when she stabbed that guy in the neck. Go Arya!
-Everything with Davos. Love that guy.
-Jaime getting home. I look forward to seeing him interact with Tyrion and Tywin (don't care about Cersei)

Still don't care about Theon at all, nor for the reveal. Bran/Sam was ok but just ok. And I was really hoping we weren't going to end on Dany. I like her but she already got a finale ending image. They should've had a little scene right after Dany's scene that showed Lady Stoneheart.

  32. I would take 13-15 but 10 is just not enough for the amount of characters they have.

  33. Jorge Castro Salinas10 June 2013 at 08:36

I loved this episode, lacked of action but had great character development. I didn't wanted it to end. Big stuff are about to come early on Season 4, such as the death of Balon Greyjoy, Joffrey's last feast, Sansa's escape with Littlefinger, Tyrion's imprisonment, the wilding army attacks the wall and Stannis saves the day! Can't wait for all that stuff. BTW, it would be cool if the Brotherhood Without Banners actually found Catelyn and revived her on the finale.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I know right?
They switched it up some, but I think even without the character Reek being introduced we will still get our "rhymes with" moments next year now!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Poor at best.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I thought it was really good. I'm always in for the talking-episodes (by the way, isn't it funny that in this series a episode wherein a young girl kills a man can be deemed boring by some people?) , because that's what GoT does best. Bran, Dany, Arya, Varys, Stannis, etc. were all great. Also maester Aegon!! I didn't mind the jon-ygritte scene so much, it had to be a little bit more dramatic for tv, no problems there. And oh, let's not forget the epic music at the end. I really like Ramin Djawadi's score. I'm really excited for season 4.... the wait is going to be agonizing

After reading the books I am hugely disappointed! I wanted Jofferys wedding...

  38. 15 would be perfect:)

  39. Basil C. Rockwell10 June 2013 at 12:59

Good but not great episode. But it got the job done. The intro to Reek was great. Ramsey Snow is going to be a problem. Disappointed that Lady Stoneheart didn't appear. But the next season is to do the second half of the book.

    ReplyDelete
  40. They should've shown us Lady Stoneheart (don't google it).

    ReplyDelete
  41. Next season, probably not until episode 9 though is my guess seeing as they need to introduce the Martells and their history.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Good thing this is "Spoiler TV"

  43. Wilson Crawford10 June 2013 at 14:02

That was one of the things I wanted to see as well.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yes, we have too many characters (too many storylines) for just 10 eps. Not Sure 13 or 15 would be enough.

    ReplyDelete
  45. The Rains of Castemere was tough act to follow, but Mysha gave me a sense of victory despite the Starks were still defeated and their murderers were still free.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Loved it, people complain about it being slow or a let down but this is how GOT functions, crazy 9th episodes then the fall out afterwards. Though I kind of wonder if this will change next season as one crazy event will definitely be happening before episode 9.

    ReplyDelete
  47. So true.

Each year so far some people have complained about the final episode not being as eventful as the previous episode. I do not think all complaints are whiny or melodramatic like some people, but comments about the series formula of Episode 10 being wrap up and set up just don't make sense to me. In Season 1 maybe, but not last year or this year.

I do not mind the pattern honestly, not at all, but I would not mind a change of pace as an experiment next year or the year after. Something to keep things fresh.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I think depending on the pace then we could have the next wedding in episode 3 or 4 then episode 9 could end with Tyrion's book 3 ending which would be pretty crazy.

I wouldn't mind a crazy episode 10 though like you say keep it fresh.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Agreed on the pacing.

I think with most of the material coming from the second half of Storm of Swords next year really sets up to have the traditional Episode 9 climax and Episode 10 denouement.

However, Season 5 can be shaped however they want since they will be combining two books into two seasons and need to create "mid-arc" finales. I know they needed to do that this year, but in theory they could do things differently in Season 5..

Who knows about what comes after that! Guess we need to wait on GRRM for the new book and find out just how story packed and how long it is.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I liked it a lot and honestly I couldn't take yet another crazy episode, we needed to breathe. It was probably one of the most revealing episodes relationships wise, I liked it for it. Arya is now my favorite character I think, I find myself looking forward to her scenes more and more, loved her on this one, even though my heart fell for her at the scene at the beginning when she had to watch Robb's body. I haven't always been the biggest fan of Bram's arc, but it really has picked up this last couple of eps, loved him on this one. Cersei and Jaime's reunion... that was epic. We should hate them so much, but I can't help but love them. All my hate goes to Walder Frey and Joffrey the bastard! Speaking about bastards, glad that our favorite bastard was saved, I like him a lot! All in all, a very good episode, and this was BY FAR my favorite season of Game of Thrones so far! Sad that we have to wait so much for the next one, but I will be there for sure!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I think people who haven't read the books are going to see the season finale as an incredible set up for the things that happen in season 4. It wasn't supposed to have a cliffhanger ending (although it would have been nice to see Lady Stoneheart). As an example (yes I know some of these things happened chronologically different in the books)

    1) Arya finally killing someone and looking at the coin.
    2) Jaime arriving home

    3) Stannis finding out about the Wall
    4) Tyrion's aggression at the table against Joffrey.

    5) Dany being crowned "Mother".

All these things are going to propel major storylines in the next season and beyond. These are all huge turning points that people don't really seem to realize and just go "Damn, nothing really happened this episode." Tons of things happened this episode. You just don't realize how important they are...yet.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I loved it! I love the dialogs and character development. That´s why I watch the show.

Loved the counsel meeting with Joffrey showing of his crazy side once more. I always enjoy when Tyrion and Joffrey have their little conflicts.

Tyrion had a lot of great scenes this episode, I quite enjoyed his scene with Sansa.

Theon finally got his name. As much as I have disliked Theons scenes all season this one worked for me.

Arya and the Hound make a good team!! I have enjoyed every single one of their scenes. It was horrible watching her, when she soor Robb (or what was left of him).

Walter Freys howl cracked me up - hilarious!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I think it is seeing that they always manage to fit in the stories that occur within the book, with additional scenes, no less.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I live for those scenes as well, exposition or not, I love the performances so much. Game of Thrones has such an epic and large scale, but those personal moments focused on a single individual or a few people talking at a table are more often than not the highlight of every episode for me.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Agreed.
This episode had an amazing amount of movement in regional and personal arcs. Quite probably more than any episode of the season.

I think non-readers noticed a lot of that too honestly. From the reviews and comments I have read it really seems that the majority of the complaints are from book readers and the majority of those complaints are about how the episode did not contain something they wanted to see.

From wanting a specific quote from Stannis, wanting to see a character from the books that has not shown up thus far, or even expecting a character to appear in the finale that did not appear in the books until the epilogue.. All of those expectations left people wanting.

I think I was lucky in that I did not expect either Coldhands or Stoneheart to be in the episode (I will not be shocked if one or both of them is not in the series honestly), and I knew going in that "Mysha" would be the final scene of the season. To me there was never going to be any other scene as the season finale.

Now, those expectations aside I think the episode had faults like I noted in my first comment in this post, but most were smallish quibbles honestly. Even the final scene which did not move me and I found quite cheesy was actually quite beautiful to watch if one removed preconceptions and biases.

The scene itself lacked something for me, but when I just look at is from a visual standpoint I like it more and more. That aerial view of the mass of freed slaves all trying to touch Dany, her troops on the edge of frame and her dragons flying up above made for an amazing vista. Powerful.

    ETA:
I know the epilogue character I mention chronologically appears 3 days after the Rew Wedding so they could have possibly been in the episode. I'm not entirely sure three days passed between the end of the last episode and the end of the final episode though. Time is quite hard to gauge in the series at times... Well all of the time! XD

    ReplyDelete
  56. It should have been called Meh.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Lame. No tease for next season, nothing new introduced. It was like the budget for the year was gone and they threw outtakes together.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Same here. Don´t get me wrong, I loved the Red Wedding, but I have to admit that I love the dialog between some of my favorite characters more. I enjoy seeing actors do their job to the point of excellence, and I feel like they come more to their rights in those scenes than fighting scenes.

    ReplyDelete
  59. - I already think Martin has killed of more characters than most would dare -

He's got to, with the boatload he introduced in later books. I just hope the Sand Snakes are more interesting on the show.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I finally put together Gendry's role. They've mashed him up with Edric Storm from the books. They've done some other things with the timeline, but I think it works looking back. There's still so much I don't remember from the books but considering the major events that have yet to occur, next season will be a great one.

Did anyone catch the significance of the background lighting at Dragonstone when Davos gave Stannis the letter from the wall? You had that blue and orange together, just like the images we saw heading into this season -- that ice and fire idea pops back up again and again.

    ReplyDelete
  61. It´s just not always the right people he kills off. I wouldn´t mind if he killed some of the Greyjoys. Doesn´t matter which ones.

Not so crazy about the Sand Snakes either, mostly because I didn´t have the patience to get to know more characters at that point.
