New York, NY – June 6, 2013 – Today, SHOWTIME announced that its critically-acclaimed comedy series NURSE JACKIE has been renewed for a sixth season to premiere in 2014. The announcement was made by David Nevins, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks Inc. A co-production of SHOWTIME and Lionsgate, NURSE JACKIE stars actress Edie Falco in her Emmy® Award-winning role as Jackie Peyton, a strong-willed and brilliant – but very flawed – emergency room nurse. The fifth season of the series currently airs on Sunday nights at 9 p.m. ET/PT, and the season five finale will air on Sunday, June 16. Emmy Award nominee Clyde Phillips serves as showrunner and executive producer. Caryn Mandabach, Richie Jackson and Tom Straw also serve as executive producers. Production for the sixth season will begin this fall in New York.
“NURSE JACKIE is an essential part of the SHOWTIME brand, and we are thrilled with the series’ growth in its fifth season,” said Nevins. “Under the new leadership of Clyde Phillips, and with an amazing cast led by Edie Falco, this show is as sharp and compelling and entertaining as ever. I’m excited to get to see the next chapter in Jackie’s life.”
NURSE JACKIE season five currently averages 3.1 million weekly viewers across platforms, ten percent above its prior season through the same time frame. The series also stars Merritt Wever, Paul Schulze, Dominic Fumusa, Anna Deavere Smith and Peter Facinelli. Bobby Cannavale and Morris Chestnut are season five’s special guest stars. Stephen Wallem, Betty Gilpin and Adam Ferrara are guest stars.

This is one of those shows that I never see anyone talk about. I rarely see news about it and spoiler questions even less than that. But it keeps getting renewed. Very odd.
ReplyDeleteTypical Showtime, they just don't know when to end a show.
ReplyDeleteGreat! Love to see where it goes next.
ReplyDeleteHmm see for me this show went off the rails end of S2/S3 but then last year it got really good again like they really knew what they were doing but the change of showrunners this season has made it feel like a different show.
ReplyDeleteI mean I am happy that Jackie is still sober and they haven't turned her into an asshole again but the entire tone of the series is different now less quirky and I am just not feeling it as much and its a shame because S4 really was fantastic.
So as for a S6 I am surprised its happening its a bit like Californication just keeps going along without much buzz, must do steady numbers I imagine and Showtime can't let all it shows end (Weeds last year, Dexter this) until they have some new ones which are popular like Homeland
They should just let this one go already. This fifth season has been such a disappointment, with too many new characters and not enough old, feisty Jackie. And O'Hara being gone is a huge minus.
ReplyDeleteLet it go before it sinks.
I enjoy the show!
ReplyDeleteDon't need spoilers, there's no mystery, It's just simple fun (like any 1/2 hour sitcom, you wouldn't get/need spoilers)
Do you watch the show? Unlike say Weeds, which was ridiculous for pretty much its last 4 seasons I think NJ has only gotten better over time. Last season was by far its best.
ReplyDeleteGlad it's coming back! Now all they need to do is get Eve Best (O'Hara) to come back :-/
I think they've got one more decent season left... although this whole season seemed like it was leading up to a series final, so I was surprised they renewed.
ReplyDeleteI was really disappointed they couldn't get Eve Best (O;Hara) to do an episode or two more. I'm hoping she will at least be in the finale!
i love this show. super glad its coming back!
ReplyDeleteThis season is so much better than the previous two. I was thinking it should have been canceled, but now I'm happy to hear it's returning.
