Roseanne Barr is nearing a return to primetime. I’ve learned that NBC is finalizing a deal for a new comedy series the Roseanne alumna is co-writing with Nurse Jackie co-creator/former co-showrunner Linda Wallem. I hear the project, a multi-camera family comedy, is intended as going straight to series under the 10/90 model. Universal TV is producing in what would be the studio’s first stab at the 10/90 template. This also would mark the first broadcast network to take on the model, which involves a straight-to-series 10-episode order that triggers a 90-episode back order if a ratings mark is hit.

If John Goodman is involved, I'm in.
ReplyDeleteI really like the idea of certain shows getting a 10/90 deal, ESPECIALLY on broadcast networks. FOX and ABC should really get into the habit.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I am really sad that Anger Management had such a deal because wow what an unwatchable show.
ReplyDeleteI agree, i liked Rosanne, but because of Goodman. He will not at least do a regular gig here i think, because of his Amazon-show got picked up.
ReplyDelete10/90 deals are not good for broadcast networks, especially NBC, seeing how most of it's comedies seem to die after a couple of seasons.
ReplyDeleteCrap, I forgot about that! Maybe he can guest star.
ReplyDelete10/90 is a dumb move if the ratings mark is anything less than a 3.5 18-49 for 10 episodes and the lead in being something other than The Voice.
ReplyDeleteAnd even then it is still a dumb move because you have ordered a show for at least 4 seasons
For the past 2-3 years basically 99 percent of their comedies have been cancelled after the first season, a lot of them cancelled only after a handful of episodes
ReplyDeleteNot gonna lie, I sincerely hope every new sitcom this year severely fails for NBC (except MJF). Then we might get a Season 6 of Community and Season 7 of Parks and Rec! :D Still loathing them over Go On though!
ReplyDeleteI think this 10/90 model is terrible, but ok
ReplyDeleteIs this going to be a regular thing in the future? Half (or maybe even all) shows get the 10/90 model? I know 100 is syndication or whatever, but it's a huge commitment.
ReplyDeleteAnger Management got the 10/90 deal because it had Charlie Sheen in it. I guess FX figured him alone, no matter the quality of the show, would bring in enough viewers. I still hope to this day that FX falls flat on their face with this deal. I like the 10/90 model, but some shows shouldn't get past the 10.
ReplyDeleteThe 10/90 model is a terrifying and stupid model, I really hope this is not happening.
ReplyDeleteSo this 10/90 thing is an actual THING now? Oooookay....
