Rhys Ifans (The Amazing Spider-Man) has been cast in the recurring role of Sherlock Holmes’ older brother, Mycroft Holmes, in the upcoming second season of CBS’ drama series Elementary. He will make his debut in the season premiere, which will be shot on location in London. In the episode, Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) is called to London to revisit an old case, where he is forced to face his older brother, Mycroft. Although the siblings suffered a drastic falling-out a few years earlier, Mycroft allows Sherlock and Joan (Lucy Liu) to stay in his new home, 221B Baker Street. With Joan in the middle, the brothers are forced to confront their very complicated history.

ELEMENTARY is a modern-day drama about Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Joan Watson, a crime solving duo that cracks the NYPD’s most impossible cases. Following his fall from grace in London and a stint in rehab, eccentric Sherlock escapes to Manhattan where his wealthy father forces him to live with his worst nightmare – a sober companion, Dr. Watson.
ELEMENTARY is executive produced by Robert Doherty, Carl Beverly, Sarah Timberman and Craig Sweeny, and is produced by CBS Television Studios. It is distributed internationally by CBS Studios International.

ReplyDeleteGive the casting guy all the Emmys. They've not really made a bad choice yet. I thought Vinnie Jones would have been ridiculous as Moran, but he ended up being perfect. Now I wonder--who will Sherlock's father be?
ReplyDeleteThe casting director does deserve some credit here. It would be easy (and lazy) to simply cast a "name" for a lot of these guest star roles but you can tell some serious thought went into these selections.

ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of stunt casting either. The only time I do enjoy it is when it's done in a tongue-in-cheek manner and the show in question doesn't mind owning up to it. My two favorites were Boston Legal and the undisputed king of stunt casting - Chuck.
