Supernatural - Favorite Season 8 Episode - Round 2
29 May 2013
SupernaturalOur Supernatural season 8 episode contest is well under way as Everybody Hates Hitler (82% of the vote), Sacrifice (87%), Trial and Error (66%), Goodbye Stranger (41%), LARP and the Real Girl (51%), Taxi Driver (55%), Pac-Man Fever (50%), and A Little Slice of Kevin (40%) all proceed to round 2. A special shout out goes to As Time Goes By which got more votes than A Little Slice of Kevin, but did not win its poll. Surprisingly for me, there are still 3 episodes I like in this contest so I am already doing better than I thought I would. Easy voting for me today. I hope it is for you too. Happy voting!

Appointment in Samarra quotes: Death may be the most fascinating character Supernatural ever created so any time he is on, there will be awesome scenes ahead. I am also a big fan of Tessa.
ReplyDelete15. Dead Guy: "Why?" Dean: "You think maybe it was the extra cheese?" Guy: "Yeah, it was good though." Dean: "Is that a local place?"
14. Dean: "Boy what's with you and cheap food?" Death: "I could ask you the same thing."
13. Dean: "Hi Sam. I'm back."
12. Bobby: "If it works…" RoboSam: "Yeah, what if it doesn't? Dean doesn't care about me. He…he just cares about his little brother, Sammy, burning in hell. He'll kill me to get that other guy back." Bobby: "Look, I…I know how scary it is but you know what's scarier? You right now. You're not in your right head, Sam. You're not giving us much choice here."
11. Bobby: "Listen to me, you don't want to do this, Sam. I've been like a father to you, boy. Somewhere inside you've got to know that." RoboSam: "Well that's just it. Sorry."
10. Dean: "Now…now you….you have…uh, done this a lot?" Dr. Robert: "Oh many, many times." Dean: "And your….success rate?" Dr. Robert: "Oh excellent. Almost 75%."
9. Dean: "Well I know this much…I'm Death, she's 12, and she's not dying today."
8. Bobby: "Just curious. I presume Death's not doing this out of the goodness of his heart so what's your half of the deal?..." (Dean doesn't answer.) Bobby: "I'm sorry. I didn't get that."
7. Dean: "Sam, I'm your brother. I'm not going to let you get hurt. I know what I'm doing here." Sam: "What if you're wrong?" Dean: "I won't let it go wrong."
6. Balthazar: "Interesting since last time we met you wanted to…what was it? Oh yes, yes…fry my wings extra crispy." RoboSam: "Well that was a misunderstanding." Balthy: "Some misunderstanding."
5. Death: "I want you to be me for one day." Dean: "Are you serious?" Death: "No, I'm being incredibly sarcastic."
4. Tessa: "Wow, they'll just let any slack-jawed haircut be Death these days."
3. Tessa: "Just so you know, when people die they might have questions for you. Well…you know, not you but Death." Dean: "You mean like how did Betty White outlast me?"
2. Bobby: "Ain't nobody killing me in my house but me."
1. Dead Guy: "Wait. Will you tell me what it all means?" Dean: "Everything is dust in the wind." Guy: "That's it? A Kansas song?" Tessa: "Sorry. He's new."
Like a Virgin quotes: Surprisingly I have a lot of great quotes I had to cut in this one to keep the list from being too long. The dragon plot was lame but Dean trying to pull the sword out of the rock still leaves me gasping for breath from laughing so hard.
ReplyDelete15. Dean: "Couple of Buddy Hollys? Doesn't really seem like news of the weird." Bobby: "Pilot was found 17 miles away…flambéed. Girl's just gone. No body. No nothing." Dean; "Okay, I'm not changing the channel."
14. Dean: "Banner crop of crazy all the way around these days, Doc."
13. Sam: "You know it's comforting." Dean: "What's that?" Sam: "I died for a year, came back, and you're still not funny." Dean: "Shut up. I'm hilarious."
12. Dean: "Dad never wrote anything about dragons, I promise. I'd remember if I read The Neverending Story in there."
11. Dr. Visyak: "Bobby Singer. Tell him something for me next time you see him." Dean: "Hmmm?" Visyak: "Actually just kick him in the jewels. That's more poetic."
10. Dean: "Sam, Death didn't just shove your soul back in, okay? He put up the Great Wall of Sam between you and the things that you don't remember, and trust me when I say that the things you don't know could kill you. That's not a joke."
9. Sam: "So what kind of thing likes virgins and gold?" Dean: "P. Diddy."
8. Dean: "I think it just goes to show that being easy's pretty much all upside."
7. Sam: "A little arts and crafts-y for a giant bat, right?"
6. Dean: "You've got insurance for this, right?"
5. Dragon: "Agh! Where did you get that?" Dean: "Comic-Con."
4. Sam: "And what are we supposed to do with this, Dean? Give it a booster shot?"
3. Sam: "What was that?" Dean: "One part age, three parts liquor."
2. Dean: "So you know what? As far as I'm concerned, it's a gift horse and I'm not looking for teeth. I'm sending Death a damn fruit basket."
1. Bobby: "Well they're not like the Loch Ness monster, Dean. Dragons aren't real." Dean: "Could you make a few calls?" Bobby: "To who? Hogwarts?"
My choices are:
ReplyDeleteSacrifice
Goodbye stranger
Taxi driver
A little slice of Kevin
;)
Sacrifice
ReplyDeleteGoodbye Stranger
Taxi Driver
A Little Slice Of Kevin
Sacrifice, goodbye stranger, LARP and the real girl and PAC man fever
ReplyDeleteSorry to see that 'As Time Goes By' has had the boot. I thought it would have been one of the most voted.
ReplyDeleteX
Anyway, I voted for 'Everybody Hates Hitler'
X
Then 'Trial and Error'. While 80% of the ep was forgettable, there were some good brother moments and Sam got to kill a hellhound and so save his big brother. As for 'Goodbye Stranger', I can't even remember what it was about, which means it must have been icky.
X
Voted 'Larp and the Real Girl' just to contrast the rubbish that 'Taxi Driver' was; canon-bashing drivel from start to finish!
X
Didn't like either of these but I'll go with 'Pac-man Fever' as Kevin has been canon-bashed like everything else.
He translated the Leviathan Tablet in two minutes, while the translation of the Hell one has been dragged out for a whole season.
Of course the writers hadn't a clue, so everything that could be used as filler, was.
I love this episode. It's one of my favourites of season six.
ReplyDeleteRoboSam: "So you've been hunting UFO's for over 3 decades and you
ReplyDeletebasically have no concrete data and zero workable leads." Wayne:
"Well, I…" RoboSam: "Have you considered the possibility that you suck
at hunting UFO's?"
X
Sparrow: "Your brother was abducted?" RoboSam: "Yeah." Sparrow: "Oh
my God." RoboSam: It's fine. I mean I've had time to adjust."
Sparrow: "Did it happen when you were kids?" RoboSam: "No like half
an hour ago."
X
I just laughed out loud at the major part of this episode.Soulless Sam delivered his lines so well. Apart from the fairy aspect, I really enjoyed it.
Another great episode for me.
ReplyDeleteFrom Dr. Robert, to Death, to Tessa, to Sam getiting his soul back.
These eps remind me why I LOVE season six. :)
For me Dr. Visyak, is one of the most interesting things about this ep. I really liked her: I was sorry she died. She could have been a cute recurring character. I loved Dean trying to pull out the sword. :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, Season six was great, not season eight!
To me any episode without Castiel was uninteresting, and most of them boring fillers. The only one I like in the poll is A little slice of Kevin. Sacrifice is the most awful, regressive episode and the reason I won't be watching season 9. Invalidated the character growing we saw during season 8, had the most repulsive brothers moment (the dialog was disgusting, back to the most unhealthy codependency , guilt-tripping Dean for daring to have friends and digging in his self-worthless issues) Carver lose my respect with that episode.
ReplyDeleteI can't really chose, almost every episode of season 8 was enjoyable. Can't wait til season 9!
ReplyDeleteI was sorry that As Time Goes By went up against Pac-Man Fever in the first round. As Time Goes By was the most important episode of the season and for me Pac-Man Fever might be the best. I wish I had been able to vote for both. Quite frankly I am surprised that Pac-Man Fever is losing by so much right now. Usually Charlie fans are present throughout the internet. Oh well, I didn't expect to be able to vote in the final round anyway.
ReplyDeleteThe inconsistency of Kevin bugs me too and shows just how much of a plot device he became. Every time he couldn't translate the tablet it took me out of the show. If Metatron wrote all the tablets and that's what we've been lead to believe, then how could Kevin read the Leviathan one so easily and then take over half a year to translate the demon one. It makes no sense and is another example of the complete lack of consistency this season. There are many times when i have shook my head at Supernatural throughout the years, but this complete and utter disregard of canon and characterization is way too much for me. It is like I was watching a Supernatural spin-off starring a bunch of shapeshifters.
Everybody Hates Hitler, Neither, LARP and the Real Girl, .Pac-Man Fever
ReplyDeleteClap Your Hands if You Believe:
- Dean: "Empathy, Sam. Empathy."
- RoboSam: "So you've been hunting UFO's for over 3 decades and you basically have no concrete data and zero workable leads." Wayne: "Well, I…" RoboSam: "Have you considered the possibility that you suckat hunting UFO's?"
Caged Heat:
- Dean: "I'll tell you who I am. I'm the guy you never want to see again cause I'll make it out of here. Trust me. And the next time you see me, I'll be there to kill you."
- Christian: "What are you laughing at?" Meg: "Dean Winchester's behind you, meat sack."
Appointment in Samarra:
- Dead Guy: "Wait. Will you tell me what it all means?" Dean: "Everything is dust in the wind." Guy: "That's it? A Kansas song?" Tessa: "Sorry. He's new."
- Death: "I want you to be me for one day." Dean: "Are you serious?" Death: "No, I'm being incredibly sarcastic."
Like a Virgin:
- Bobby: "Well they're not like the Loch Ness monster, Dean. Dragons
aren't real." Dean: "Could you make a few calls?" Bobby: "To who?
Hogwarts?"
- Dragon: "Agh! Where did you get that?" Dean: "Comic-Con."
A Little Slice Of Kevin, Hunteri Heroici and The Sacrifice. - the best ones to me.
ReplyDelete1. I'm not surprised that people liked "Sacrifice", but I'm kind of surprised that it's doing as well as it is. Mark Sheppard's acting was really good, and the special effects were cool, but Sam's whole thing at the end seemed diametrically opposed to what he said in "Trial and Error" about seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, so that moment really didn't ring true to me. And there weren't any good moments with Dean and Cas either. It was okay as an episode, but a let-down as a season finale. So I voted for "Everybody Hates Hitler", which was highly amusing.
ReplyDelete2. "Goodbye Stranger" - best episode of the season. I hope it wins.
3. I would not have guessed that "Taxi Driver" would have made it out of the first round, I thought most fans were upset by how much it trashed canon. Good to see "LARP and the Real Girl" is beating it now.
4. While I think "Pac-Man Fever" is a better episode in general, I just love parts of "A Little Slice of Kevin" so much, I had to vote for it.
I agree with 3 so much. Taxi Driver made me SO mad with all the holes. The performances were great, but the continuity fail was absolutely insulting.
ReplyDeleteInsulting is a great word for it. It was like they expected us not to see that the entire episode negated everything we had watched before. I've spent 8 years of my life watching, discussing, and promoting Supernatural. Did they think I wouldn't notice?
ReplyDeleteThe season finale always wins in these polls. It usually gets a major "just saw it" boost. Last year Survival of the Fittest won by an overwhelming amount too. I think by at least 75%. Then just a month later it was defeated soundly in the big episode contest. The further the contest is from the airing of the episode generally the less "when it aired" is a factor.
ReplyDeleteGoodbye Stranger was the episode where we had that disgusting Swan Song reap off, Castiel style. Sure, in a later episode we found out that what broke Naomi control over Castiel was actually the Angel Tablet, but still it makes me angry. I guess the whole point of that scene was Dean to be beat up. Again. :\
ReplyDeleteThat rip-off boiled my blood too. It seemed like the only time they remembered the past this season was when they were trying to screw it and/or the fans over.
ReplyDeleteYeah... I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling like that.
ReplyDeleteI didn't even know this poll was posted, I usually rely on the poll tag to find stuff like this. So, would you please put these the poll tag on future rounds
ReplyDeleteThanks.:)
ReplyDeleteThat's probably why I don't remember it. I must have tried to scrub that scene from my mind. It was horrible and cringe-worthy!
A cheap copy of the original with none of the love, meaning and world-saving magnitude of that brother moment. :(
As you say, the fact that in the end it wasn't even Dean's begging that influenced Castiel, made it just a cheap and humiliating face-bashing for poor Dean,
Did Meg not die there too and the writers made the brothers run off like cowards without helping her.
It's all coming back to me now. Unfortunately!
So true. Everytime they have put their hands on past moments, they have ruined them.
ReplyDeleteIf they want to go with their twisted canon, then I wish they would at least leave the past alone.
That Grand Canyon thing still burns just as much as the rest, and poor Sarah could have been left alone to live her life.
How nice it would have been if it was Amelia who got ganked instead of her. She deserved it far more than Sarah. Grr!
Yeah, Samuel got what was coming to him.
ReplyDeleteI have to say that 'obsession' wasn't just a prerogative of John Winchester, and it's strange that both men obsessed over the same woman Mary, to the detriment of her sons Sam and Dean!
X
As for season six, I have always enjoyed it but I've just finished rewatching it again and I enjoy it more each time.
It had its little down moments but I can honestly say I find something good even in the few lesser episodes
So true about the writers. It was obvious that Sam wasn't himself and I enjoyed Robo-sam. It was nice to see Sam temporarily as a bad-ass, instead of his usual puppy-eyed, empathic self.:)
ReplyDeleteX
I love it when both brothers show off their fighting abilities.
I have a secret longing to see them in some alternate universe as bad guys, chewing up the scenery as crime bosses or something, on the lines of the Star Trek Alternate Universe where they are all bad guys.:)
I laughed thru most of this ep, have never enjoyed Sam more. lol My favorite 2 quotes, first Dean: "Empathy, Sam. Empathy." That was so great, Dean running thru the corn. Makes me smile thinking about it. Second was the: Dean: "It was a…it was a little, glowing, hot naked lady…with nipples,
ReplyDeleteand she hit me." RoboSam: "I'm not supposed to laugh right?" All in all one of my favorite eps.
Great ep, but my favorite memory is Cas and the Pizza Man..funny stuff. Lot of action in this and that I love, but Dean telling grandpa he would kill him next time was awesome.
ReplyDeleteDean trying to pull the sword had me in tears, and that was all Jensen..funny as heck. He has perfect comedic timing.
ReplyDeleteI only like the line with Meg. All the other stuff before it was typical frat humor that I tend to not care for. I loved Dean telling Grandpa Creepy off and I really enjoyed it in And Then There Were None when Dean says, "Welcome to next time."
ReplyDeleteRoboSam's "I'm not supposed to laugh right?" had me howling with laughter. There was never a better delivery of a RoboSam line than that one. The humor is definitely a plus for the episode. I agree that this is RoboSam at his finest. There are times when I really miss RoboSam.
ReplyDeleteGrandpa Creepy lived up to his namesake with the Mary obsession. I'm sorry but that was just creepy. I get that John's obsession was a combination of regret that he wasn't there for Mary as much as he wished he had been and a need to put his world right again, to take control of the crazy. Grandpa Creepy grew up in this life so it's not a shocker to him. I am not sure why he would have thought Mary would be alive anyway. All I can get is that his time in hell (which he was definitely in, not heaven no matter what he says) warped him. You're right though. It is interesting how much Mary plays as an obsession in this show and how much of a detriment that was to her sons, whom she would have done anything to keep from the hunting life.
ReplyDeleteAgreed wholeheartedly on both brothers fighting and kicking butt. They need a whole lot more of that. It's the thing I miss most when they use the brothers as wallpaper. I an an action woman at heart so more fighting, less emoangsting is always my preference. This show has gotten way too talky.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of the brothers playing mobsters or such. That would be a really fun episode. Well if they got the right writer. I think Robbie Thompson could carry it off.
It is, to me, the best example of physical comedy in the series, and this show has had some great physical comedy moments.
ReplyDeleteYou are definitely not the only one. That blew up all over my Twitter. Many people who like Supernatural to revolve around the brothers fighting things were up in arms. They considered it an affront to what could be THE classic brother moment.
ReplyDeleteOh don't bring up the Grand Canyon. That will be a sore spot a year from now. Is it really that much to ask that the writers actually watch the show before writing for it? I know people who have marathoned it in 3 weeks. Surely they could too. Perhaps we ought to start a Kickstarter campaign to pay them to watch the show since they obviously aren't going to do so on their own.
ReplyDeleteSome things are best forgotten. In fact, the world is running short on brain bleach after this season.
ReplyDeleteI didn't put it on because people have been unhappy that there are so many polls on SpoilerTV these days. I didn't want to overwhelm the tag tweets, notifications, etc.. Instead I just tagged it as Supernatural so that only people who are interested in SPN would get the notice. We will have new material 3-4 times a week and they will always be tagged as Supernatural.
ReplyDelete@Dahne It's ok to use the Poll tag for these posts. It's not the tag that was the issue just the sheer number of posts with a poll in them :)
ReplyDeleteIt's ok to add the poll tag when you have a post with a poll :)
I think it's going to come down to Goodbye Stranger and Sacrifice, in which case Id be happy with either of them winning. But I think the two strongest episodes this season were actually The Great Escapist and Hunter Heroici.
ReplyDeleteI laugh at that welcome to next time line and hoped it was true.
ReplyDeleteI agree, if we had a poll for this, it would be number one on my list.
ReplyDeleteYup. Gramps was definitely in Hell, for Crowley says 'I know of a certain big, bald patriarch I can take off the bench', so apart from the whole Mary /Azazel deal, Samuel must have done stuff on his own to get sent down to Hell.
ReplyDeleteWell he wasn't the most sympathetic of men anyway, even before that!
He was creepy from the first time we saw him in ITB!
Let's hope some-one from the show reads these threads and gives us an action packed fighting brothers episode! :)
ReplyDeleteX
I love that scene in Hell House where they're standing side by side shooting at the tulpa, guns blazing.
We definitely need more butt-kicking. The brothers have angsted enough. They need to get it all out of their systems with a good fight, not with each other, but with some common enemy!
Me too but in the end I was really glad that Sam killed him instead. It would have been a vengeance killing if Dean had just shot him. This way it was Sam killing another monster and I still got rid of Grandpa Creepy. Win-win.
ReplyDeleteIt cannot come down to Goodbye Stranger and Sacrifice, since they will meet next time in the semi final round where Sacrifice will win. My bet is it comes down to Sacrifice and A Little Slice of Kevin and Sacrifice will demolish its competition. It doesn't really matter what is in the finales though because Sacrifice is going to win by a lot.
ReplyDeleteWe have complete different tastes though because I think Goodbye Stranger and Sacrifice were some of the worst episodes in a season full of bad episodes. In contrast I would say Pac-Man Fever was one of the best written episodes this season with a good mix of humor and heart and excellent pacing. It actually felt like a standalone episode from the earlier, better seasons, and one of the few that made me feel something other than revulsion or boredom.
ha, you are leaving us and still finding polls to do. ;) You need to stay for next season, I mean how much worse could Carver make it..don't think even he can come up with a bigger disaster than Sam this season. Hope I don't have to eat my words. lol
ReplyDeleteHa! Thanks, but no thanks. Good luck with that though. My best wishes for a vastly superior season 9 to you. Since unlike you, I think a whole lot more is wrong with season 8 than just Sam being out of character, I can't see these writers and this show runner being able to produce a webisode I want to watch much less 23 episodes.
ReplyDeleteMy Supernatural journey for SpoilerTV ends the day before hiatus ends, if not a bit sooner. I'll get as much done off the list as I can before then. The only way I can see things changing is if over the summer hellatus next year, I find that season 9 was such a dramatic improvement that I have to watch season 10 live. That or the writers get fired. Even better, I'll definitely come back when Kripke himself does. Yes, I dare to dream.
Who's calling it season great?
ReplyDeleteThat was the moniker the fans gave it last summer around Comic-Con time. For some it stayed season Gr8. For others it became a cosmic joke. For me it was just sad. Another dig at what used to be such an amazing show. Next year those watching can determine whether it is Season Fine or Season Grind. Or hey maybe Season Asinine. That really should be this season though.
ReplyDeleteSeason Eight = Season Pointless. I don't think we've ever seen a season where the mytharc was rendered utterly pointless in the finale. Esp. when it was said in the middle of the season said trials were a death sentence. Why all shocked when Sam's about to die, people? *sighs* I don't know. I'm gonna try a few eps next season, see what's going on. I'm sick like that.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. It will go back to what's wrong with Sam and how can Dean fix him next season. Or maybe miraculously it will all be dropped so we can render the entire season as pointless as you said. After all, everything else was rendered moot in the finale. I have decided to restrict my masochism to 2 weeks in the summer where I can forge through all of season 9 at one time to determine if I should even bother with other seasons.
ReplyDeleteI don't think they will be completely AWOL since they are both contracted to be in each episode, but who knows how much actual involvement in the plot that means. For all we know Dean could be designing the new bunker kitchen and starting his comfort foods catering business while Sam archives the Men of Letters collection or starts a job training self-help seminar for fallen angels who need job counseling. :-P
ReplyDeleteSeriously though, I really hope that season 9 will show that Jeremy Carver and the writers have reflected on the season and are making a concerted effort to put the show to rights again. I hope it restores the goodwill and trust of those Supernatural fans who felt screwed over this year. I hope they come to an understanding of what the canon of the show is and create foundational truths that cannot be broken. I hope they get to know who these characters are and why they are the way they are. In short, I hope they know this show at least half as much as the fans do. I think SPN can be salvaged but it is going to take a lot of work and admitting they made mistakes before that can happen. I really hope that season 9 wows you...in a good way, and that your love of the show can be restored. Mostly because that will probably mean that I will enjoy it too when I watch. I hope you keep me apprised of how well it goes for you as the season progresses so I have a better idea of what I'm getting into when next summer rolls around.
From this page to Kripke's emails. lol It does jar me when big errors are made like Grand Canyon line, but since it is not real I can overlook them, but when a character that has been shown one way for 7 years suddenly does a 180 that for me is unforgivable. I will watch next year but am still holding out hope that somehow this will be explained. In the polls I have never voted for one character over the other because I loved them both, and it hurts my heart that this season I had to work at finding any compassion for Sam AT ALL. Just did not like him, found him to be whiny oh poor me such a hard life, I ran, hit dog, met girl...GAG. Dean who?? Kevin who?? They were my family, how could Carver do this to me?? OK now who is whiny. lol
ReplyDeleteJust know I will miss you, did not always agree with you, but loved your outlook on the show and your awesome polls.
I thinking the acting in "Sacrifice" was excellent all the way around. It only takes watching another show for ten minutes to see the difference in acting caliber. Supernatural has some of the best acting I've seen for a low(er) budget genre show.
ReplyDeleteIf you will remember, Sam's saying he saw the light at the end of the tunnel disturbed Dean. Dean said he'd rather stay in the dark and on the journey. To him the light at the end of the tunnel equated death not getting out of the hunting life.
You will remember too when they were in heaven together and Castiel was adamant about them not going 'into the light' they had to stay on the road focused on their goal. The light at the end of the tunnel is death not escape and I think Sam knew this. He knew, as all hunters know, that there is no real escape from the life except death. He has always been willing to die for others, even those he doesn't know. Dean as well. His comment and his later actions were not contradictory but complementary.
Alright thanks, didn't mean to sound harsh. I just hate missing out on the polls because I enjoy them more than other sites' polls.
ReplyDeleteYou didn't sound harsh. I just wanted to explain myself. I will tag everything poll in the future. I'm glad you enjoy the SpoilerTV polls. I enjoy them more than other sites' polls too.
ReplyDelete1. EHH - Despite the wonderful "broment" in Sacrifice, I can watch EHH from start to finish. With Sacrifice, I have to FF past all the angel stuff and get to the Sam/Dean stuff.
ReplyDelete2. Is Trial and Error the hellhound episode? If so, I choose T&E. I loved that episode from start to finish. I even liked the bickering family.
3. Neither.
4. PMF wins b/c I cannot remember "A Little Slice of Kevin." I have no idea what that episode was about. I did find myself liking Charlie much better in PMF despite the annoying fashion montage than any of her previous episodes.
Thanks b/c I missed out on all these polls too. Did you do a podcast of your thoughts on the finale yet? I don't want to miss that!
ReplyDeleteI haven't found many people who feel that way, but that's how I feel too. I loved S6. Granted, the first half was much stronger and tighter, IMO, than the second half, but it was LOADS better, IMO, than S5. There are so many S5 episodes that I only watched once on their original airdates, whereas I could watch almost all of S6 straight through. There are a few episodes in the second half of S6 that I only watched once (i.e., Western episode, the one w/their mom in a diner), but I thought it was a great season.
ReplyDeleteWell, Kevin said the trials were "likely" to end in death. I don't believe he said the trial taker would definitely die. Sam's whole thing was to "survive" the trials. Dean learned that the trials would "definitely" end in death.
ReplyDeleteI go back and forth on that line. At first I hated it, but it has grown on me over time. As for Christian, yeah he does not get much fandom love even if some of his lines were classic.
ReplyDeleteSeason 5 was way too depressing for me and the Apocalypse really was lame. I didn't expect doomsday movie quality since that was never in the budget. I did expect more than a couple of news reports about weather though. I agree that season 6 did better at the beginning in the end because the film noir plan with the mytharc largely failed. Although there are still episodes I adore at the end too. All in all, I found season 6 to be an upswing. It's nice to know I am not alone in that sentiment.
ReplyDeleteOver the past couple of summer hiatuses, I've done a lot of Supernatural posts as a way to get people through the hiatus, usually once a day. This time I will be posting something new 3-4 times a week in accordance to SpoilerTV's new policies. Keep on the lookout because there are usually a lot of fun polls, articles, and debate that go on and I would hate to miss hearing your opinions.
ReplyDeleteAs for the Sacrifice podcast, we experienced technical difficulties both times we originally tried to tape it and Lilith couldn't get enough salvageable material so we were going to scrap it. However apparently many people protested so we taped it again this week. It will be posted on SpoilerTV on Sunday afternoon. Just a warning though - I HATED Sacrifice. Lilith found a new outlook on it after the podcast was postponed so she is a bit more upbeat in this one than she was the first time we recorded.
I love Corin Nemec. I remember him from a show called "Parker Lewis Can't Lose."
ReplyDeleteChristian was snarky and hilarious. I remember the board I frequented at the time laughing about Dean having Christian's number in his cell phone! Haha!
I adored RoboSam and wanted him to stay a little longer too. In fact, what I was really hoping was that Re-Souled Sam would have kept a few of RoboSam's characteristics. He was just plain fun.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't a big fan of his on Stargate but I didn't dislike him either. He was mostly just there for me. I agree that following Daniel was a rough act and not quite fair.
ReplyDeleteSacrifice podcast should be posted in a couple of hours. Abaddon was my favorite part since it was the only action. However, I keep forgetting that her awesomeness was in such a lame episode.
ReplyDeleteA Little Slice of Kevin was dominating by Samandriel screaming in the biggest example of torture porn this show has had since they strapped Meg to a table and went at her. Kevin also got his finger cut off by Crowley and healed by Cas not long after. Crowley kidnapped all the possible future prophets adn Cas had a showdown with Crowley while the brothers were not even in the room and Dean was simply pounding on the door.
ReplyDeleteI do watch and plan to watch all of those you listed, but don't usually go to the forums for them unless one of the eps is super good, then I go to see what everyone things. Just don't have time as I usually have a house full of orphan squirrels I am raising. Even with my disappointment of Sam this season, I am holding out hope it will not be repeated next season.. I am with SPN for the long haul..they are family and you don't forget family. lol
ReplyDeleteOh . . . I vaguely remember it now. Thanks for the reminder. I forgot about Kevin's finger. Did Cas heal him? How did that resolve?
ReplyDeleteI liked his character on Stargate and thought he did a good job! It's a shame people were upset w/him for replacing Daniel when Michael Shanks didn't want to be on the show anymore.
ReplyDeleteI'm a big Corin Nemec fan.
Yep, Cas' super special angel powers took care of it lickety split.
ReplyDeleteThat would have been cool! Robo!Sam was awesome!
ReplyDeleteWhich is your favorite? I will try to push that show and make it worth your while to visit with us about it.
ReplyDeleteI was desperate for both brothers to drop some of the guilt that had laden them down in seasons 4 and 5 until joy was the rarest unicorn on the planet. RoboSam had no guilt and it freed him up to stop second guessing himself and wallowing. Now Sam did drop the guilt in season 7 which was awesome. Here's hoping that some day Dean will be able to shed some guilt too.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, once Michael Shanks left the show I only watched Stargate sporadically. It took me years to go back and watch the whole thing on DVD.
ReplyDeleteReally none. I used to really like Burn Notice, but Jesse ruined that for me..still watch, but the chemistry is gone. I LOVE Suits, White Collar and Auggie in Covert Affair. Will have to wait for the new ones to see if anything gets my blood pumping. I guess of the ones you listed it would be Arrow, then Grimm. But none feel like family and most I don't really care what happens to them.
ReplyDeleteI watch Teen Wolf and looking forward to the new season tonight, but again the characters just have not drawn me in the way SPN does. I watch a lot of shows and enjoy them or would stop watching..like I have Bones, but they are just entertainment, SPN I feel for the character.
ReplyDeleteNothing will be another Supernatural for me either but I do like the characters and I think they are well-written, which is something Supernatural cannot say anymore. I like that these teens are not stereotypical and that they often show how smart they are.
ReplyDeleteTrue. He's a good actor. I know people were upset with him on Stargate, but I liked him there too. It wasn't his fault Michael Shanks left the show for a time.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely not alone! S6 is a fave. I'm probably in the minority in liking Robo!Sam so much that he could have stayed longer, and that wouldn't have bothered me in the slightest.
ReplyDeleteI also found the depiction of the Apocalypse to be severely lacking, and, for me, that was the first time I noticed "filler" episodes. I just remember nothing much happening after FI - hated that episode - and then ... boom... all this action with AAH. The pacing was seriously off. S5 is definitely not a fave for me, but it was better than this season. That's not saying an awful lot though.
Caged Heat quotes: I still remember how surprised I was by this episode. Christian being an actual demon. Grandpa Creepy being a traitor. Crowley snark. Plus, there was a lot of action in this one.
ReplyDelete15. Dean: "Oh that is such cr**. You want to know what really happened? You chose a demon over your own grandsons." Grandpa Creepy: "See it how you want. I don't even know what Sam is and you want me to protect him? And you? You're a stranger. No really, tell me what exactly are you supposed to be to me?"
14. Ghoul: "Look, breakfast."
13. RoboSam: "You saw him. He was more interested in killing us than getting the job done. I just did all of us a favor." Meg: "Hey! You just going to keep that?" RoboSam: "You took this from us. I'm taking it back. We leave in one hour."
12. Dean: "Karma's a b**, b**."
11. Demon: "I'm sorry. I know you're speaking. I see your lips moving, but I can't understand what you're saying 'cause I don't speak Little B**." Dean: "Remember when we used to gank demons?"
10. Crowley: "I can't." RoboSam: "Can't or won't?" Crowley: "I said can't. I meant can't, you mop-headed lumberjack. I was lucky to get this much of you out. Going back in for the sloppy bits? No way. I'm good but those two in there? Forget it."
9. Dean: "I'm asking you to learn from our mistakes. Doing this, this is how the bad guys get us every time. It's our Achilles heel. Apparently it runs in the family. We will figure something else out, okay?" Grandpa Creepy: "I'm sorry Dean but I…" Dean: "Fine, bring her back but what are you going to tell her? You going to tell her you made a deal with a demon? That you wouldn't help out her sons?" Grandpa Creepy: "That's enough! Just get out."
8. Sam: "Alright that should keep them out." Dean: "Not for long. How many of them are there?" Meg: "Lots. I'll be pulling for you…from Cleveland."
7. Meg: "I apprenticed under Alastair in hell just like your brother. So Dean, can I make Crowley do whatever I want?" Dean: "Yeah she can." Meg: "It's a deal then. Hugs and puppies all around."
6. Dean: "I knew this was a trap." Meg: What do you want? A cupcake."
5. RoboSam: "She can't kill us. She needs us to get to Crowley so she can stick that knife in his neck. It's him or her." Dean: "Well I hope you both lose but good luck."
4. Dean: "Well breaking into monster Gitmo is not exactly two-for-one in the champagne room."
3. Meg; "What was that?" Cas: "I learned that from the pizza man." Meg: "Well A+ for you. I feel so…clean. Okay, got to go."
2. Christian: "What are you laughing at?" Meg: "Dean Winchester's behind you, meat sack."
1. Dean: "I'll tell you who I am. I'm the guy you never want to see again 'cause I'll make it out of here. Trust me. And the next time you see me, I'll be there to kill you."
Sacrifice, Goodbye Stranger, Taxi Driver, and Pac-Man Fever.
ReplyDeleteClap Your Hands If You Believe
RoboSam: "Okay if you want to add glitter to that glue you're sniffing that's fine, but don't dump your whackadoo all over us. We'd rather not step in it."
Dean: "Fight the fairies. You fight those fairies. Fight the fairies!"
Caged Heat

Appointment in Samarra
Dead Guy: "Wait. Will you tell me what it all means?" Dean: "Everything is dust in the wind." Guy: "That's it? A Kansas song?" Tessa: "Sorry. He's new."
Dean: "Hi Sam. I'm back."
Like a Virgin
Dean: "You've got insurance for this, right?"
Dragon: "Agh! Where did you get that?" Dean: "Comic-Con."
Yeah, the fairies put it down on the bottom of my list, especially since this episode made them more powerful than angels and demons combined. However, I adored RoboSam, and never more than this episode. It was fun getting to see Jared explore this completely opposite character and quite frankly anytime there is more snark per episode I am thrilled.
ReplyDeleteHa! Season Great was a big misnomer for this season. Season Ache is more like it. I personally thought season 6 was a relief after the despair that permeated almost every part of season 5 so I have always had a fondness for it.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed season 6, and especially once I understood there was a reason Sam was out of character. Back then I trusted the writers so it didn't worry me at all. While I know the mytharc was a mess in the middle, I respect what they were trying to do and there are a whole lot of episodes that I thoroughly enjoy, standalone and mytharc. This is one of them.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree. I was really excited to hear he was guest starring. He's a big get in the genre world. But he creeped me out through the whole of In the Beginning even before he turned into Azazel. In fact, he might have been creepier before he turned.
ReplyDeleteFrom your lips to LA. We definitely do NOT need yet another pointless brother rift. I hope for your sake that they are united in kicking the angels back to heaven next season. Actually I just hope that the brothers get to be the main action in the season and do it while having each other's backs. It would be a refreshing change.
ReplyDeleteNot a bad idea for a poll. I will add it to the list of ones people nominated before.
ReplyDeleteCool. Will do.
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm standing on the side-lines here.
ReplyDeleteI'll wait and see how it goes, if season nine turns into an boring angel/ Castiel-fest with the brothers in the roles of wallpaper, in eternal contrived angst or completely AWOL, then I'll decide.
#11 is like my favorite quote of all time. I laughed so hard when that demon said that. The actor delivered that line so well. Hahaha!
ReplyDeleteI'm probably in the minority but I loved Christian. He had some good lines. He was very snarky. Haha!
Clap Your Hands if You Believe quotes: This is not my favorite episode but man does it have some great lines in it. This is RoboSam at his snarky best.
ReplyDelete12. Sparrow: "Okay, it's alright Sam. I so totally understand that you need time as a family, but it's just…what were they like?" Dean: "They were grabby, incandescent douche bags. Good night." Sparrow: "Too soon? Okay."
11. Dean: "God, is it on me? I feel like I've got the crazy on me." RoboSam: "No, you did sit in some glitter though." Dean: "Makes me want to believe in UFO's again."
10. RoboSam: "Do you have bigger cups?"
9. Dean: "Yeah, I had a close encounter, Sam, and I won."
8. Dean: "It was a…it was a little, glowing, hot naked lady…with nipples, and she hit me." RoboSam: "I'm not supposed to laugh right?"
7. Sparrow: "Your brother was abducted?" RoboSam: "Yeah." Sparrow: "Oh my God." RoboSam: It's fine. I mean I've had time to adjust." Sparrow: "Did it happen when you were kids?" RoboSam: "No like half an hour ago."
6. Dean: "Okay alright, but until we get you back on the soul train, I'll be your conscience okay?" RoboSam: "So you're saying you'll be my…Jiminy Cricket." Dean: "Shut up, but yeah you freaking puppet. That's exactly what I'm saying."
5. RoboSam: "So you've been hunting UFO's for over 3 decades and you basically have no concrete data and zero workable leads." Wayne: "Well, I…" RoboSam: "Have you considered the possibility that you suck at hunting UFO's?"
4. Dean: "Fight the fairies. You fight those fairies. Fight the fairies!"
3. RoboSam: "Okay if you want to add glitter to that glue you're sniffing that's fine, but don't dump your whackadoo all over us. We'd rather not step in it."
2. Dean: "Empathy, Sam. Empathy."
1. RoboSam: "Hey you're the one who Pizza Roll-ed Tinkerbell."
I liked him in Parker Lewis. Hated him in The Stand. That only shows how good an actor he was because that's how I was supposed to feel about him both times.
ReplyDeleteYay!!! I love your podcasts. Can't wait to hear it. The only part I liked about Sacrifice was the Sam/Dean stuff. The Crowley, Abbadon stuff wasn't awful.
ReplyDeleteI didn't feel Sam's pain in season 8 the way I did in season 1 when we also had that conversation ad nauseam. However I was too puzzled by what Jeremy Carver thought he was doing with Sam to be very upset at the character. I agree it will be hard for JC to make a bigger mess out of season 9 than he did in season 8.
ReplyDeleteI will miss talking with you too so hopefully you watch Arrow, Grimm, and the Tomorrow People since I think I will be concentrating on them next fall. Over the summer I am focusing on Teen Wolf, Burn Notice, Graceland, and Under the Dome. Any chance you will be watching any of those?
