Supernatural - Favorite S8 Episode - Round 1 - Poll
27 May 2013
Polls SupernaturalWelcome! The SpoilerTV Annual Supernatural Summer Hiatus Breaker starts now. As always, we start with the hunt to crown the best season episode. Things will be a bit different this year because SpoilerTV is undergoing a slight philosophical/focus change to incorporate more spoilers, videos, and articles and to reduce the number of polls on the site. Therefore instead of having daily polls, we are going to have new material 3-4 times a week throughout the hiatus. Sometimes these will be articles, but mostly they will still be polls. Polls will still only be open until 7 pm the following day, CST time, though. No extra day to vote. The general thought is to do miscellaneous polls and articles until all nominations for the huge quotes contest we are doing this summer are done. Then we will go directly into that contest, taking a break as always during the Best Show contest Adam runs.
The biggest difference you should see, besides of course there not being a poll every day, is that each post will be longer. So don't forget to scroll to get all components in. Also in lieu of doing nominating polls for this contest, I took the episode rankings based off the index SpoilerTV posts from the "What Did You Think of..." polls. Since 23 is an odd number, one poll only has 2 episodes instead of 3. Brackets were made using a modified version of the NCAA basketball tournament. Articles/polls will come first with quote nominations directly after them. In order to get the quote nominations sorted and ranked, I will be closing them a week after they are posted so don't forget to make your nominations early. We will also be doing multiple episodes per post so that we can get the quotes contest running mid-June hopefully. Thank you in advance for your participation and cooperation in making this hiatus fabulous. It is my last hurrah in the Supernatural fandom and I am looking forward to many great discussions with you as you count down the days until season 9. Until next time, comments are the perfect brother moments of the internet. Happy voting!

I am NOT a fan of season 8 so mostly this is choosing the best of the worse for me. My choices:
ReplyDelete1. Everybody Hates Hitler - because it's not Bitten, so at least the brothers are in this episode. Plus Aaron is one of the few new characters this season I would actually like to see again. This is one of the few episodes I mostly enjoyed this season.
2. Citizen Fang - It may be my favorite episode of the season. Besides the Men of Letters bunker, Benny and Purgatory were the only good things about season 8. Plus we finally got someone who understood that it's all about family….the vampire. I also liked Blood Brother but it gets knocked down a notch for the vampire love triangle. Sacrifice was one of the worst finales this show has ever had - largely boring.
3. Remember the Titans - by default and because I like mythology. Man's Best Friend… doesn't deserve to be mentioned ever again. Trial and Error set up the "only one brother can do the trials" plot line and had some of the worst guest actors around. That family had me rooting for a demon to take them all.
4. Clip Show - gave me some quality season 1 flash back time. That's enough for me. Goodbye Stranger killed off Meg, one of the few characters I still liked. Hunteri Heroici was decent but I'm not into Bugs Bunny humor.
5. LARP and the Real Girl - Charlie is one of the few recurring characters I actually like. Plus the sheriff in this one spouted my favorite quote of the season, "These kids today with their texting….and murder." Bwah! The Great Escapist I barely remember already and it introduced Metatron, so no points there. Torn and Frayed was torture porn, plain and simple.
6. Heartache - I liked this one far more than almost everyone else. It was the brothers on a case together and THEY GOT THE WIN!!! This happens so rarely these days that it gets mega bonus points for it. Taxi Driver was the biggest canon-wrecking piece of drivel it has ever been my misfortune to watch. It's also the only episode I have only seen once. I've even seen Bitten 4 times so that pretty much sums up my feelings for Taxi Driver. It cemented the end of my long history with Supernatural as I knew I would not be returning for season 9 halfway through this trash.
7. Pac-Man Fever - although I won't be upset when As Time Goes By beats it. I did not care for Henry Winchester but the Men of Letters was made of win. Still my votes goes to Charlie. It was the best Charlie episode of them all. Too bad two episodes I actually liked this season are against each other in the first round. As for Freaks and Geeks, it was decent half the time. The other half was Krissy bratting.
8. None of the above - I dislike all of these. A Little Slice of Kevin didn't even have the brothers in the same room as the main action. We Need to Talk about Kevin set up the canon-decimation known as Sam not looking for Dean. Southern Comfort had more brother rift and Garth - deal breaker.
You Can't Handle the Truth quotes:
ReplyDelete15. Veritas: " I mean I've seen liars before, but you two? Gold standard." Dean: "Point of professional pride."
14. Sam: "Looks pretty normal right?" Dean: "I'm sure inside it's chock full of creep."
13. Veritas: "What are you? What is he?" Sam: "I don't know what you're talking about." Veritas: "Really? I doubt that. I doubt anything that comes out of your mouth right now. You're not human." Dean: "What?" Veritas: "You didn't know that? Now that I believe."
12. Veritas: "Hey Dean, I'm curious. What do you really feel about your brother?" Dean: "Better now. As of yesterday I wanted to kill him in his sleep."
11. Dean: "Alright well, what do we know besides crazy cat lady?" Sam: "Well dogs are her Achilles heel." Dean: "Naturally."
10. Sam: "So you really think this god is slumming as some farm league Diane Sawyer?"
9. Lisa: "You want to know the truth?" Dean: "Probably not."
8. Customer: "I'm sitting like this so you'll look at my breasts. I just bought them. I need a lot of attention." Dean: "Good luck with that."
7. Bobby: "You know what else? I get a pedicure once in a while…this nice Vietnamese joint." Dean: "Okay. Okay please stop." Bobby: "This one gal, Nhung Phuong - her name means Velvet Phoenix - tiny thing, but the grip on her. She starts on my toes and I feel like I am gonna…" Dean: "Whoa, whoa! Hey come on man…now I'm scarred for life. Thank you."
6. Dean: "You know what? I will have that other one." Bartender: "I thought you were working." Dean: "I am working up to it."
5. Dean: "So all that tribute vanishing from the morgue. What do you think? A Soylent Green situation?" Sam: "Gods have to eat too, which means we've got to take her out or you're on the menu."
4. Bobby: "I'm trying but Dean…there's a worst-case scenario." Dean: "What? Satan's my co-pilot? Yeah I know." Bobby: "Well that's be the other worst case." Dean: "Well then what?" Bobby: "Maybe it's just Sam."
3. Dean: "So this was the chick's pet?" Sam: "Well she was obsessed." Dean: "I think you mean crazy."
2. Olivia: "I don't understand. Why would federal investigators be interested in a suicide?" Sam: "Well um…it's a new, more caring administration."
1. Bobby: "Okay, but did you know my first girlfriend turned out to be a…" Dean: "No, no! Uh hnh. Uh hnh."
Family Matters quotes:
ReplyDelete12. Crowley: "So, we clear? Me, Charlie…you, angels. Job's simple enough. Bring me creatures. Aim high on the food chain, please. Everybody wins."
11. RoboSam: "You didn't think I'd come back." Dean: "I figured 60/40."
10. Crowley: "Isn't it obvious? Location, location, location. I'm a developer. Purgatory is vast, underutilized, and hell-adjacent, and I want it." Dean: "What for?" Crowley: "Best shut your gob. Employees don't question management." Dean: "We ain't your employees." Crowley: "Of course you are. Have been for some time now, thanks to gramps. I don't keep Captain Chrome Dome around for his wits do I?"
9. Crowley: "Samuel really, I keep an eye on my investments." Dean: "Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, wait. You two know each other?" Crowley: "Not in the biblical sense. More of a business relationship I'd say." RoboSam: "You're Crowley's b**."
8. Dean: "Well if the old man's Kermit, whose hand's up his a**?"
7. Dean: "You get a shot, you take it. It's not going to kill him, but dude will move slower without any kneecaps. And if we make it through this….you, me, and Sam are having one hell of a family meeting."
6. RoboSam: "Just running the math. Do we really have another choice?" Dean: "We could stab him in his throat."
5. Christian: "Sam! Uh, Dean." Dean: "Hello Newman."
4. AlphaVamp: "I'm trying to answer the question. Now when we "freaks" did, where do we go? Not heaven, not hell…so?" Dean: "Legoland?"
3. RoboSam: "So Samuel didn't take the bait so I went with Plan B." Dean: "We had a Plan B?"
2. Dean: "I don't trust him. Dude's hiding something." Sam: "What?" Dean: "I can feel it and if you weren't RoboSam, you'd feel it too."
1. Dean: "Wow. You know I've seen some stupid in my time but you take the crown. Putting Jaws in a fishbowl? How do you think that's going to end?
All Dogs Go to Heaven quotes: This one is not good. Not even the dialogue for most of it. Hard to choose good quotes from it. Well except for Crowley snark. That is always awesome! RoboSam also had good snark. I wonder if that's a soulless quality because the demons always give as good as they get on Supernatural.
ReplyDelete12. RoboSam: "So Plan B?" Dean: "We've got one?"
11. Crowley: "Is that Bobby Singer? Give him a kiss from me."
10. Dean: "What are you going to do to that family really? You going to put your jaws around that little boy's throat, clamp down, listen to him cry for his mom? 'Cause I'm going to guess that these are the only people who in your pathetic life have ever shown you any kindness. So it's either that…or you can help us stop it."
9. RoboSam: "Bag him now?" Dean: "No, we make sure." RoboSam: "Really?" Dean: "Before we hand him over to a lifetime of demon rape? Yeah, really."
8. RoboSam: "Get the lead out, huh?" Dean: "Let me get dressed, Robocop."
7. RoboSam: "I'd double cross us. I mean he's got to realize that's his best bet if he wants to keep breathing." Dean: "Nah, he'll go through with it." RoboSam: "You mean because he loves that family?" Dean: "Yeah." RoboSam: "I'd double cross us." Dean: "Thanks Dexter, that's reassuring." RoboSam: "Just making conversation."
6. Dean: "You didn't sleep 'cause you don't….sleep." RoboSam: "Right." Dean: "Yeah, that's not creepy at all."
5. Dean: "I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it's not Cal." RoboSam: "Masterful deduction, Sherlock."
4. RoboSam: "So?" Dean: "We do what we've got to do…and we get my brother back."
3. Dean: "Okay, time to go. Now, we can either do this the easy way….or the hard way." (RoboSam laughs) RoboSam: "What? Soul or not, that's funny."
2. Lucky: "Go to hell." RoboSam: "Already been. Didn't agree with me."
1. Crowley: "You've been working for me for some time now. Sam here longer." RoboSam: "We didn't know." Crowley: "Like that makes a difference to you. You'd sell your brother for a dollar right now if you really needed a soda."
I found very hard to choose between Hunteri Heroici and Goodbye Stranger :s Anyway, this post is awesome :)
ReplyDeleteShame you thought Sacrifice was boring -- you're the only person I've seen with that opinion! It changed Earth and Supernatural forever. Sam is dying. Sam and Dean for the first time got the one-up on Crowley, and healed him; he's been the main antagonist since season 5. Castiel was forced to fall, as was every other angel. I'm shocked you find that all boring, this was by majority opinion the best finale since Swan Song.

Everybody Hates Hitler
ReplyDeleteSacrifice
Trial and Error
Goodbye Stranger
The Great Escapist
Taxi Driver
As Time Goes By
A Little Slice of Kevin
I am hardly the only person who thought it was boring. It was a common theme among most of the people I Twitter with. It took far too long to get to the main point, drawing out the set up way too long. For a good chunk of the time Dean was watching people in a bar. I am not a fan of Crowley becoming more human since he's the best thing that SPN has left going for it. Abaddon was the ONLY action for the first half. I don't care one jot about heaven so that was never going to interest me, and then in the end, NOTHING for the entire season mattered because the brothers did not finish the demon trials and Cas got duped, once again and using almost the exact same words as in season 6 by the way, so nothing he did the entire season mattered either. With the exception of the last 5 minutes, nothing much of anything happened.
ReplyDeleteI'm huge fan of season 8, so let's start:
ReplyDelete1 - Everybody Hates Hitler
2 - Sacrifice
3 - Trial and Error
4 - Clip Show
5 - The Great Escapist
6 - Taxi Driver
7 - As Time Goes By
8 - A Little Slice of Kevin
Plus for a second choice: Pac-Man Fever, Bitten, We Need To Talk About Kevin, Remember The Titan and Goodbye Stranger.
I think Season 8 is very close to Season 1 in style. I loved it. I chose Everybody Hates Hitler, Sacrifice (the best finale ever), Trial and Error, Goodbye Stranger, LARP and the Real Girl, Taxi Driver, As Time Goes By, and Southern Comfort. Some these were so close it was difficult to choose.

Veritas: "What are you? What is he?" Sam: "I don't know what you're talking about." Veritas: "Really? I doubt that. I doubt anything that comes out of your mouth right now. You're not human." Dean: "What?" Veritas: "You didn't know that? Now that I believe."
For the first time ever, I can't remember what happened in some of these episodes from their titles. Must be because most of these just blended together way too much, too many fillers and a lot of boring stuff.
ReplyDeleteI voted for both Charlie episodes and hunteri heroici because I really enjoyed those. I did like the finale, maybe not for the angel/heaven storyline but that talk at the end between Sam and dean was amazing. And Crowley too. Although he will be sorely missed as a demon.
I couldn't bring myself to vote for taxi driver after it screwed over the canon so much so had to vote for what's up tiger mummy. Kevin's mum did have some good lines though
Aside from some great scenes with Crowley and Sam, Abaddon being absolutely bad-ass awesome, as usual, and actually enjoying Naomi for once, I was pretty bored by it.
ReplyDeleteI honest to God don't remember "Trial and Error" being this season. Wasn't that last season? That was the ep with the (wrong) Egyptian god judging people and Dean on trial, right? I can't even remember what half of the episode titles are about, though. A few I voted on because the one I did remember, I knew I didn't like. I disliked "Everybody Hates Hitler" so much, I actually voted for "Bitten", too. I wish I could "unwatch" that piece of garbage.
ReplyDeleteThe Osiris one last year was called Defending Your Life. I can see how you would get them confused. Trial and Error was the one at the horse ranch with the super annoying guest characters.
ReplyDeleteMrs. Tran and Crowley were my favorite thing about What's Up Tiger Mommy. The part I remember most is when Mrs. Tran smacked Crowley and everyone is shocked, including Crowley.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah! Okay. The start of the Hell Trials that ultimately led to nowhere. I've never forgotten so many plots to titles for a season of SPN before ...
ReplyDeleteI have to admit. I have never had to consult IMDb before doing an end of the season poll before. This time I did. It's sad.
ReplyDeleteI loved Mrs. Tran! That was also one of my favorite moments. That woman too no crap. Did I hear they killed her off? I missed/skipped a few eps this season.
ReplyDeleteJust curious, but I was hoping you could clarify what you mean, "I think Season 8 is very close to Season 1 in style." because to me they are miles apart from each other. For me, season 1 was set up as a weekly horror movie and was actually scary in several episodes whereas we haven't had that in years.
ReplyDeleteThey said she was dead in a couple of toss-off lines in the latter part of the season. We never saw it. Such a shame for the character.
ReplyDeleteI've had trouble since season 6, partly cause I haven't done much re-watch the last 3 years. Part of it is due to interest in episodes, but I've been busy too.
ReplyDeleteThis season has so many episodes which plots i barely remember.
ReplyDelete1. Everybody Hates Hitler
2. Citizen Fang
3. Remember the Titans
4. Clip Show
5. LARP and the Real Girl
6. Heartache
7. Pac-Man Fever
8. Neither

I loved Season 8 too. One of the best seasons in years in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI agree! For the first time in ages the show had the look and feel of the early seasons. And the brothers were actually brothers again.
ReplyDeleteDang I hate that 3 of my favorites are against each other, Citizen Fang, Blood Brothers and Sacrifice..went with Citizen Fang, I loved the Benny character. Did not vote for any of the Charlie ones. She is not one of my favorite characters. I would vote for anything over Bitten, that was a waste of 40 minutes.
ReplyDeleteI would have rated this season as a close 2nd after season 2, except for the bad taste it left with the way Sam was written. Totally threw him under the bus with the not looking for Dean.
The whole first half the brothers were in the worst rift they have ever been in. With the exception of the stupid Amy subplot, season 7 had the brothers more in sync than season 8 ever did.
ReplyDeleteI had a harder time between Citizen Fang and Blood Brothers too. Benny was so focused on family that it seemed like he and the Winchesters switched roles. Shame Jeremy Carver did not course correct when it came to Sam.
ReplyDeleteHa! We voted the exact same way. I am shocked because I thought I was the only one who thought Heartache was decent. That episode felt more like classic Supernatural, minus the annoying brother rift, than anything else this season.
ReplyDeleteThanks and thanks for participating. Keep checking back for more hiatus fun.
ReplyDeleteSeeing them all lined up like this makes me remember just how horrible this season was. Ouch. Saving grace? I don't mind losing 90% of these.
ReplyDeleteHa! It does lessen the pain when you don't care about most of the episodes. This contest is a whole lot easier than the Ultimate Episode Contest last summer, especially if you begin with the mindset that Sacrifice is going to win anyway.
ReplyDeleteSo depressing that these are episodes in the competition.
ReplyDeleteEvery season there have been at least half of the eps that were really enjoyable, but here it's really slim pickings.
My favourite has to be 'As Time Goes By' for the simple reason that it was about the Winchester Family.
Then 'Heartache' because it featured only the brothers by themselves on a hunt which they had some success in resolving; ending up with 'Trial and Error' and 'Everybody Hates Hitler'.
The rest for me are completely forgettable.
Sacrifice was mediocre, and although I adore angsty brother moments and the one in this ep was well acted by the brothers,it just didn't please me, for back in season six Dean had already given a blanket apology for everything, and Sam had previously stated that he felt he had already paid for his sins with his time in the Cage, so for me while I loved the moment,it just didn't ring true.
As for the angel/ heaven stuff, I'll pass.
The Men of Letters was Jeremy Carver's only permanent positive addition to the Supernatural world as a show runner for me. Here's hoping it improves for those watching next season. I also had a hard time with the ending brother scene in Sacrifice. It did not ring true to me either. Too much out of character brothers for the rest of the season.
ReplyDeleteMan, we must've been watching two totally different seasons 8s.
ReplyDeleteTaxi Driver shold be banned from all polls ever for canon violation. 30 years to life, no chance of parole. Only worst episode ever polls should enter it in.
ReplyDeletePurgatory scenes for me, though I should thank Jensen, Ty and Serge for that, not Carver.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, emphatically. No 30 years though. Simply life without parole. It's going to be a hard pick in the ranking polls this year. I'm not sure which was the worst: Bitten, with the teen angst love triangle and little brother time, or Taxi Driver, which killed Flo, the continuity fairy, and the bane of all canon that has ever existed in Supernatural.
ReplyDeleteI credit the idea of Supernatural's Purgatory to Sera Gamble, since she is the first one to show us it. Jeremy just expanded on it. I do agree that Purgatory's awesomeness lies largely with Jensen, Ty, and Serge though.
ReplyDeleteIt is not much of an exaggeration to say everything. If you just go with the big ones like both hell and Purgatory being easy to get in and out of via portholes and that you can rescue people from hell with nary breaking a sweat, plus Purgatory being a smooth walk in the forest, the small things don't even matter.
ReplyDeleteThat's one I actually skipped. What was the huge canon violation?
ReplyDelete
