If you have ever wanted to go to a #Supernatural con, you really should take Lilith up on it. Of all the cons, this one tends to be the biggest and offers the most variety. Plus you are pretty much guaranteed that anyone who says they are going to be will indeed be there and maybe some surprise guests as well. It tends to be the most popular con of them all and as a bonus, you can actually go to the places scenes were shot. If you are really lucky like a few of my friends were, you might even be on hand during an actual shoot. They even got to meet Director Guy Bee, solidifying my never ending jealousy.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy listeneing to your podcast regardless of the episode.
ReplyDeleteI don't want to comment on this ep itself as I would just be spouting "more of the same", so I'll keep quiet.

However I just have to say that although the Grand Canyon retcon is perhaps a small thing compared to the canon trashing and "mind-blowing" new Carver canon that has been implemented, it so annoyed me.
Floods of fan fiction have been written about that fact, apart from Dean clearly stating in Croatoan that they had never been there so 'What the Heck'.
Clearly no-one cares enough among the writers to get things right, not even the 'Diva' Edlund!

I heard a whisper that the amulet may one day make a re-appearance.
It wouldn't surprise me, for it is supposed to be able to indicate the nearness of God and as such could be useful in seasons future, but if it's anyone else other than Sam who gives it back to Dean, then it will be another blow to the brotherly bond and it's taken enough hits already.

Anyway thanks again for the podcast. :)
Thinking out loud if Naomi somehow threatens the boys so they have to find the angel tablet for her.
ReplyDeleteThe Grand Canyon retcon annoyed me a whole lot more than the bigger Cas retcon simply because it was part of such an important brother scene. I will be surprised if the amulet returns since Jensen hated it. It kept on banging into his face and body during fight scenes. It caused a problem with his teeth in one of them. However if it ever returns and Sam is not the one to give it back, then there will be a riot in the fandom.
ReplyDeleteIf she does it will be like season 6 working for Crowley all over again.
ReplyDeleteI can see the writers making it happen. With as little as they know about the show, seems like an easy fit.
ReplyDeleteGood point. They do seem to be making things up as they go.
ReplyDeleteAgreed 100% about Cas. I also fear that God will someday show up on Supernatural. However I will blissfully ignore it and live in my happy seasons 1-7 world.
ReplyDeleteAmen to that!
ReplyDeleteAll honours to seasons one to seven, where even a middling episode has now been revalued by me as a near gem. :)
My ratings of all SPN episodes have now taken a steep turn. My episode ranking articles are not anything like they would have been if we had done it last summer compared to this one.
ReplyDeleteLOL. Someday you have to give us your new revised rankings compared with your previous ones. It would be interesting to see them :)
ReplyDeleteMan, word on Castiel. I said in my review of the last two eps, I'm making an effort to care about his SL because I've accepted he's never going to NOT be on the show. Imagine how much tighter this season would've been without this Naomi nonsense hanging over it. And that's a majority of the reason this stuff was intro'd, to give Castiel something to do. I don't know why they can't figure out a way to integrate him without involving MORE angels and more bitchy teenage bickering amongst them. Seriously, if that's how Heaven is, I'll take Hell. At least the demons are entertaining, rather than pretentious, prepubescent snotbags.
ReplyDeleteIf God does show up and he's Chuck? *GAGS* Because I hated Chuck so hard and if they try to tell me he's the Creator in the SPN-verse? I'm gonna deny all existence of the show, even when I still thoroughly enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteWell, we were told Chuck was a prophet and as Castiel seemed to know all about him and the 'Winchester Gospels', that would seem to confirm his prophet status.
ReplyDeleteThen the designated archangel appeared when he was in trouble with Lilith too, so it would seem strange if he should now turn out to be God.
x
Of course with these writers and their ruthless trashing of past canon , anything is possibe, but i sincerely hope Chuck does not end up being God!
Chuck as God would be a big mistake in my opinion too. Chuck and Adam are two dropped plot points that I would just as soon stay dropped. I couldn't stand either of them.
ReplyDeleteHa! Love your description of angels. I too do not see a time when Supernatural will be Cas-less. It's one of the many, many reasons why I am dropping this show next season. However by giving him the angel tablet trials instead of Dean, that should make his story line important next year and possibly even integrated instead of just throwing him in the plot willy nilly for no reason as they have since season 6. There really was no point to having angels back on SPN after season 5.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's clear that the writers want him on the show, although I can't really understand why, as better characters than him have come and gone.
ReplyDeleteThe show has always been about good, represented by the Winchester Bros, fighting against evil so, the demons are a logical presence on the show, in any shape or form, the snarkier the better.
x
The problem is the angels.
They have been portrayed as ambiguous from the very beginning and that makes them difficult to address.
What exactly is their purpose?
Are Sam and Dean supposed to fight them or side with them?
Castiel is exactly the same. Is he good or evil. No-one really knows, certainly not the brothers, as he has altenately betrayed them and then tried to seek a dubious forgiveness.
That's why i feel they have outstayed their welcome.
The Winchesters' story lines which could be far more thrilling and coinvolging are being diluted to make room for Castiel and the angels who in the end have no specific use..
The whole Naomi/Castiel/ thing feels tacked on, because that's exactly what it is, only kept alive because theTPTB seem to like the idea of an angel on the show.
It would have been nice if Carver had lowered himself to explaining the season a bit better but I suppose you can't explain something that has no depth like season eight!
Apart from the fact that both brothers should have gotten to carry out the trials this season, I think that the fact that Castiel gets to do them next year is completely unfair.
ReplyDeleteThey should have gone to Dean, but of course that would have been too logical and Castiel would have been even more useless!
As far as the Castiel ret-con is concerned, it's fine with me.
ReplyDeleteI'd rather he was badly 'constructed' from the beginning and acted like he did because of that, and not because of his 'friendship' with Dean through which he supposedly picked up his idea of 'free will'.
The less he has to do with Dean the better for me.
Strange that there hasn't been much emphasis on this fact from some fans. :)
For me Castiel has nothing more to give, nor can I see any character growth for him. He remains what he is; tagged on to the story-lines because theTPTB seem to like the character.

As for the amulet, I'm not certain but I believe it was Jensen himself who answered the question with a maybe.
I think that we will see God sometime.I believe it's inevitable and that these lackadaisical writers won't resist going there eventually, maybe towards the end of the series.
