Supernatural - 1.01 - The Pilot - Classic SPN Podcast

27 May 2013

Hey there all you wayward sons and daughters, you know Dahne and I just couldn’t leave you hanging for the Summer Hellatus 2013. We’re back and we’re going to be discussing classic Supernatural. That’s right seasons 1-3, with seasons 4-5 to come next summer. Come on in and have a listen as we wax nostalgically about how we fell in love with Supernatural. This episode is jam packed and brimming with positivity, love and of course some nitpicks and what the heck moments that the podcast has become known for. Lilith has a reverence for the pilot that stymied her ability to really be negative which is OK because you’ve heard enough during season 8 but never fear Dahne strikes a good balance as a veteran fan between likes and dislikes. As always, this podcast is merely the views and opinions of Lilith Hellfire and/or Dahne and do not reflect the views and opinions of Spoiler TV or the Supernatural Fandom as a whole. Enjoy!

  1. Just for the record, classic Supernatural to me is everything before the writers' strike in season 3. After that plans got tossed and Kripke had to change his vision. However, there is no doubt that the first 3 years of SPN are my favorite and I am delighted to get to be a cheerleader again, as I was for the first 7 years of Supernatural. Come join us in the tale of two brothers beating the odds and kicking supernatural butt. "You know...saving people, hunting things - the family business."

  2. For those who listened to the season 8 podcasts, we had technical difficulties with the Sacrifice podcast and originally planned to skip it. However, due to popular demand, we are going to re-record it on Tuesday and it should be up by this time next week.

  3. They should go 10 seasons and the last season even though people may not like this but they should pop Michael and Lucifer out of the box and end the show the way Kripke wanted to.

  4. I would be one of those that hated that. Besides, it wouldn't solve the Kripke original plan problem, since he vowed to never have angels on the show and you can't de-angelify Michael and Lucifer now much less keep all the other angels from entering the mix. I would however love if Kripke came back as showrunner for the last season of Supernatural. That would guarantee me watching it.

  5. ♛♚♝♞♟♜♚♛ I quit working at shoprite and now I make $35h - $80h...how? I'm working online! My work didn't exactly make me happy so I decided to take a chance on something new… after 4 years it was so hard to quit my day job but now I couldn't be happier. Heres what I do, ►►►►►► QUE99.COM

▲✔▲✔▲✔Try to be "good", you'll be judged. Try to be yourself, you'll be criticized. THeres what I do,efore, choose the 2nd option. Evil uses the "nice good people" as puppets. It appears dressed as a poor guy

  6. You and I share the same views on SPN. I'm going to definitely listen to these classic podcasts because I love to relive the first three seasons. A friend of mine and I used to do weekly discussion posts about the show when we became disenchanted around late S4/early S5. Had so much fun chatting with fans about those eps. Remembering what it was we loved about SPN. Before the Angel Invasion. And the God/Heaven/etc. nonsense. Damn Writer's Strike. I wish Kripke would do an alternate universe comic book, where he at least tells season four the way he'd meant it.

  7. I think we need a Kickstarter campaign to make that happen. I would definitely fork over money to see Kripke's vision come to life. :-) Nothing compares to the first 3 seasons of Supernatural. However while I was saddened with seasons 4 and 5 plot lines, I enjoyed seasons 6 and 7 for the most part. (It helps that I adore Mark Sheppard in anything and I loved RoboSam snark.) It took SPN season 8 to completely disenchant me.

  8. I love this episode. :)

It made me fall so heavily in love with the Winchesters at first sight, and although there might have been better structured and more thrilling episodes to have come afterwards, you never forget your first love, so for me it's perfect ,and no nitpicks or WTH's can touch me. :)

It had EVERYTHING, gorgeous brothers, jerk-bitch, Dean picking handcuffs, the boys talking and answering in synch; the fight between them at the beginning in the shadows; the first mention of the apple-pie life, the rock cassettes, Dean pulling Sam from the fire; little Sam and Dean, the Impala, the demon in Sam's room; and I could go on and on and on.

I was so happy that I had the DVD so I could continue watching right away.
It's great to feel the love and enthusiasm I had for this show.

As I said in another post, the brother bonding, brotherly love and reciprical sacrifice that the Winchester brothers possess, I doubt will ever be seen again in another TVshow, unless of course they make a series out of the Leandros Brothers books; two brothers like Sam and Dean ,but even more of a close-knit team, who always have each other's back above everything. :)

  9. I find nitpicks and WTH moments in even my favorite TV episodes, like What is and What Should Never Be so there are many times when they do not lessen my enjoyment of the show. I think this pilot did a good job of setting up the series and gave us a lot of foundational elements that for the most part they had stuck to. It is far from perfect for me but when I first saw it, it was the best premiere I had seen that season. There is definitely a lot to love.
