After the fall failed to produce a single breakout new comedy series this year, the networks went back to the drawing board and doubled their comedy efforts. That has resulted in a glut of well-received comedy pilots that undoubtedly will lead to some tough choices in the next 10 days.

  1. CBS has a single-camera comedy pilot with Robin Williams and Sarah Michelle Gellar. I hope they don't pass on the opportunity, it could be awesome. Also, Raising Hope's Greg Garcia has two pilots (one multi-cam, the other single-camera) in contention at CBS... as much as I would want both to die if it meant Garcia not leaving Raising Hope, I think he has to do it, contractually (http://www.avclub.com/articles/raising-hope-has-also-lost-its-showrunner,93291/ ).

Other than Dads (which has got me excited only because of Seth Macfarlane's involvement and the cast, because the plot or the multi-camera factor just put me off), FOX will probably pick up their most-talked about pilot for months, the Schur/Goor (Parks & Rec) cop comedy directed by Lord/Miller (21 Jump Street) starring Andy Sanberg, Andre Braugher, Terry Crews and Jo Lo Truglio, and I want to see this show, even if I have a problem with Sanberg : as a supporting character, he's great. But much like Chris O'Dowd, I want to tear my eyeballs out when they're too much on camera.

As much as I want Community and Go On to get full fifth and second season, respectively, NBC will have to pick up new comedies to go alongside Parks & Rec and Michael J. Fox's show, and I'm rooting for Assistance (starring Krysten Ritter, which has a strong chance of being in the lineup) and Brenda Forever (starring Ellie Kemper, which sadly doesn't have much "buzz").

  2. All of this sounds reasonable to me, nothing new. I would like some news on whether or not CBS will actually expand their comedy hours. If there is any year in which it feels that they have the development to do so, it is this one...

  3. Its amazing most of the comedies failed so this year they are making twice as many how does that make sense.

  4. So Vegas is pretty much guaranteed, cancelled. Sad, because it's a really good show. Just plagued with being in the wrong time slot :(

  5. CBS keeps taking off good shows for more crap programming! Seems I'll have a lot of free time on my hands next season.
