Reign - Co-creator Stephanie Sengupta to exit the series

23 May 2013

Thanks to Bruce_F for the heads up.

There is a change at the helm of the CW’s high-profile new drama series Reign. Co-creator/executive producer/co-showrunner Stephanie SenGupta has departed, leaving co-creator/executive producer Laurie McCarthy as the sole showrunner. The move is not completely unexpected as there had been chatter that the two didn’t quite see eye to eye.

  1. firing creators already!

  2. My initial reaction to this is that firing the half of the creative team who comes from a procedural cop show background won't be a great loss for the show.

  3. Better now than later. At least there won't be as much creative disputes as the show moves forward into production

  4. And so now THIS one begins....

I'm keeping count on recasts this year... I think I should do the same for writers too...

  6. True. Maybe they can bring on someone with a little more experience in this sort of a show... someone from uuuuhhhmmm.... Someone like....

Well I want to say someone from the Spartacus team, but having read the script for this pilot, I would wish the Spartacus writers better fortune than associating themselves with this show.

But my point would be someone who's done historical shows or other period pieces might be a better fit o help out as a showrunner.

  7. Let's aim a little lower. They should go get someone from Starz's Camelot series.

    Camelot isn't that low. :P.

  9. Honestly, anyone who could prevent the show from being too campy, inauthentic, or juvenile would be a welcome addition.

I thought it was a comparison to this show, but yeah, not against Spartacus.

  13. Maybe they could get Jane Espenson as a consulting producer/writer

  14. That's no point to even dream about, because I think she's still very much employed on OUaT, and if she were to jump ship for any show it would be SHIELD cause you know.... Joss....

  15. Nope the original point of reference was Spartacus ;)

Camelot calibre people would be right up Reign's alley.

Thanks, I hope this show can be as good as Camelot.

  19. I predict Reign will be the CWs first cancellation next season. I just don't feel like its the right fit for the network and I doubt fans of TVD will stick around for it.
