They have a really good lineup of new shows, i actually think Reign will fail. I think BATB and Carrie Diaries will be cancelled since they shouldn't have been renewed in the first place, while Supernatural will end
ReplyDeleteCarrie Diaries should not have gotten renewed, it will get cancelled next season. BatB is an ok show which also should have gotten cancelled so next season might be its last. Reign looks a bit to much for the CW. Not sure about Hart of Dixie, since the people at CW seem to really like the show.
ReplyDeleteRenewed: Arrow, SPN, TVD, Tomorrow People, The Originals, TCD (might have a shot on Fridays).
ReplyDeleteCancelled: Batb (will get destroyed on Mondays), The 100, Nikita, Reign.
They would have announced Supernatural as it's final season. CW usually does that, with 90210 as an exception because of how bad it was preforming. Supernatural will go at least one more season with the actors signed on for season 10. Why cancel a show that is still preforming well if everyone involved still wants it to go on?
ReplyDeleteAgree with your other predictions though.
It really doesn't matter what people think about which show should be renewed or cancelled, as long as the shows get the ratings/demo deemed necessary/satisfactory by the network that's all that matters. Can't wait for fall and to watch BATB, SPN & The Originals ;)
ReplyDeleteNikita will most likely be on its' final season either way.
ReplyDeleteI see Supernatural making it to Season 10, possibly more if they wanted to.
ReplyDeleteCarver aid at the beginning of 8, he needed 3 but wanted more. The boys said they would go as long as the fans wanted them
ReplyDeleteRenewed Arrow, Beauty and the Beast although it has done bad so far), Supernatural, The Originals, and Vampire Diaries. I just not sure about the others to be honest. I used to watch the original Tomorrow People with my daughter. It was British and not too bad. I can't see the Americans doing anything with it to make it worthwhile. The remainder, I either don't know or figure they will be cancelled.
ReplyDeleteExactly.
ReplyDeleteYep, that's what I mean. I wish it wasn't the last one, though :(.
ReplyDeleteYep. The show is a great performer. As long as it continues to preform well, and the cast and crew want it to continue, it will go on. They wouldn't cancel Supernatural without announcing it's final season like with Smallville, One Tree Hill, and Gossip Girl. 90210 wasn't given a final season because it's ratings just crashed. Supernatural would have to fall a far way for it to be in any danger.
ReplyDeleteYeah.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I love Supernatural, I hope they announce season 10 as the last. Season 6 just crashed in quality and while it has been steadily improving since then, an end game would really ramp it back up to where it was in the glory days of seasons 3-5. The ratings, of course, would justify 15 seasons for the CW but I hope it doesn't go quite that far
ReplyDeleteThat's if the CW actually lasts that long.
ReplyDeleteI was under the impression that the contracts were done after this season, but since they are not Supernatural will get a season 10
ReplyDeleteYep, they signed a two year contract for seasons 9 and 10. I kind of hope 10 will be announced as the final season.
ReplyDeleteReign will fall flat on its ass hopefully. The Carrie Diaries will last 8 episodes at best but I think all of the others are safe.
ReplyDeleteJust off the top of my head, Reign, Star Crossed, The 100, & The Carrie Diaries will get the axe. The Originals and The Tomorrow People will be the only freshman shows to survive.
ReplyDeleteRenew: Arrow, TVD, SPN, The Tomorrow People. The 100, HoD, The Originals
ReplyDeleteCancel: The Carrie Dairies, Reign, Star-Crossed
Not sure: Beauty and the beast, CW has a history of sparing sophomore shows, and I'm sure Carrie Diaries isn't going to make the cut on Fridays, so B&TB might, but I don't like its chances that much. It all depends on how loyal is the audience, and we'll know it by fall
I think Arrow,VD,SPN,The Originals,HoD will be renewed.BaTB could go either way, I think it's Marks pet project so it could get renewed but if ratings fall much further it would be cancelled..Im watching CD,HoD,Reign,BatB,VD,Originals .
ReplyDeleteVampire Diaries and Arrow will most certainly be renewed being the highest rated shows of The CW, as will Supernatural - I don't think they will let it go without giving it a tenth season, even though a shortened one. As for The Originals, there are quite a few Original groupies around and even though it may not measure up to Vampire Diaries in terms of ratings, I do think they will renew it as it already has a large built-in fanbase.
ReplyDeleteI think carrie dairies and the star-crossed will be cancel. I hope hart of Dixie dose better next year because it a good show but the writer need to do better with the storylines. Supernatural will get a 10 season after that I don't think it will end.
ReplyDeleteThat would be my guess based on past history. Midseasons do not work on the CW and I still can't believe the CW picked up a historical drama. More power to them for trying to diversify though.
ReplyDeleteThe only definites for me are Vampire Diaries, Arrow, and Supernatural. I would say that The Originals, Tomorrow People, and Hart of Dixie (it will be in its 3rd season) are likely too. My guess is that Star-Crossed (terrible name) and The 100 duke it out to be schedule spackle next year. I see no hope for The Carrie Diaries or Reign, although Reign could surprise me. Beauty and the Beast is a complete tossup to me. If it gets a 0.6 or higher it is good to go. Lower and it will depend on how Tomorrow People, Reign, and Originals are doing.
ReplyDeleteThou I'm not a regular viewer (I only watch good episodes, include the last three episodes) because sometimes I lost the passion on SPN since season 6, I still don't want it to end on season 9 or 10. Because I know I'm gonna miss them.
ReplyDeletealthough BATB has small fanbase I think they are dedicated and supportive, and the fans will follow up with it no matter what nights it airs.It has the best love chemistry of all CW shows in my opinion. The pilot started pretty slow but it had a big turn around half of the season. Its a fantasy romance and a perfect balance for a family show, with some humor and suspense.I highly recommend it.
ReplyDeletelol to those who think supernatural might be cancelled. season nine is already announced ages ago.
ReplyDeleteTVD, Arrow, and SPN will be renewed for what could be both TVD (S6) and SPN's (S10) last seasons.
ReplyDeleteHoD will be renewed as well.
From the new shows, I think The Originals and The Tomorrow People will be renewed.
The 100, Star-Crossed, and B&tB will battle for the last renewal, with B&tB probably having the upper hand due to having more episodes unless it reaches 90210-like ratings.
Nikita's final season has already been announced
ReplyDeleteMost people are basing these renewal/cancellation prediction son how they think the show will do in the ratings. For exsisting shows its easier to predict how they might do, for new shows we can only guess based on the promos we see and the ratings of the show it has been paired with.
ReplyDeleteYeah.
ReplyDeleteBeauty and the Beast will be renewed due to it's fast-growing, passionate fanbase. Damn, those beasties are a fun group! Star-Crossed and The Tomorrow People look like they will be decent shows. TVD, Supernatural and Arrow should do fine as long as they keep their stories strong.
ReplyDeleteVeterans:
ReplyDeleteThe Vampire Diaries: Renewal
Arrow: Renewal
Supernatural: Renewal
Hart of Dixie: Renewal
Beauty and the Beast: I think it is contingent on what happens to the freshman shows... Ultimately though, I could see a friday renewal happening even if everything else works moderately well, so I will go with renewal, even though it could go either way
The Carrie Diaries: Canceled (how it got renewed I will never know)
Fall New Shows:
The Originals: Renewal
The Tomorrow People: Renewal
Reign: Canceled (how did this get on the schedule but the hundred was held, seriously)
Non Scheduled Shows:
The Hundred: I want to go with renewal, and I actually think it looks very good, plus it has a somehow decent shot at landing a post tvd's slot, so i will go with renewal
Star Crossed: I have no clue where this one will go on the schedule. Then again, it could be that this is the one that is actually expected to land after tvd when reign inevitably crashes and burns. Canceled
Overall, I expect the cw to have a good year!
Very solid predictions
ReplyDeleteThe thing with Beauty and the Beast is that they are likely to need something for fridays... Assuming (as both you and i are doing) that their tuesdays and wednesdays work, the season after the cw could focus on finding, for the 100th time, a new show for after tvd, while rebuilding mondays. that means that hart of dixie would go to fridays for its final season (likely). But something would have to go with it since I doubt america's next top model would run for the whole season... That something is most likely beauty and the beast, since it is also likely to not have place on "rebuilt" mondays (they could however pull a carrie diaries on us and throw their last renewal to fridays to die)
ReplyDeleteThe Reign pickup is puzzling especially considering how many of their new shows would be conceivably great fits after tvd... Yet they go and throw in there the only show that we all think won't work.
ReplyDeleteI am torn between the CW using it as counter scheduling because they know the post-VD slot has never really worked or the idea that the CW were forced for reasons we don't know to pick up Reign and they wanted to minimize the damage for having such an unlikely show on the schedule. I actually hope it is a success because the CW needs more hits if the shows I do like are going to survive. I will however not be surprised if it tanks.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be surprised if one of their new shows that barely gets renewed goes to Friday. My prediction is that Star-Crossed and The 100 would get the Carrie Diaries pickup for next season, presuming of course that they both have the low demos of typical CW midseason shows. If things go how I have predicted, they won't have any lack of shows they can put on Friday. Of course this is all speculation. I am guessing that Tuesdays will be fixed for next season, so I too think that they will be looking mostly at Mondays. They could always try reality and game shows for the regular Friday schedule too.
ReplyDeleteThis is to predict not what will happen this fall but in the 2014-2015 TV season. Although the idea that Supernatural would not get a season 10 is pretty ludicrous at this point. There would have to be a major ratings crash for that to even be in the realm of possibility. I don't see that happening next season.
ReplyDeleteI am not as optimistic about the midseason shows as you are. I don't think the post-VD slot will help either to be frank. While one of them may be renewed despite poor ratings, (because if Carrie Diaries can get a renewal anything at all is possible) I don't see either going anywhere but Fridays or schedule spackle for the following year. Other than that and being a little more pessimistic about Beauty and the Beast's chances, I concur with your predictions. I heard that Reign tested the best out of all the pilots and that's why it got on the schedule. My hope is that they are just trying new things and it wasn't because CBS is producing it so it had to be picked up for contract reasons.
ReplyDeleteWhile that would explain it, I can't see a reason why the cw would be "forced" to pick a show. And while I also want the cw to succeed so that I can keep my cw shows, I would be shocked if reign actually works.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, but I am not sure there is room for anything else other than Hart of Dixie and a last renewed show on fridays if everything else works as we expect it to. Then again maybe we are being too optimistic about everything else working. The biggest question though is where will they schedule the midseason shows... My guess is that The Originals and The Tomorrow People work and Reign doesn't. That still doesn't leave enough openings for the two midseason shows. So my guess would be that Star Crossed gets Monday paired with Beauty and the Beast as it always seemed bound to do, Hart of Dixie takes over The Carrie Diaries and paired with ANTM (with Nikia filling between cycles it) as it would do next year already and the Hundred takes the post tvd timeslot.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I am biased because the hundred is my most antecipated cw show, so I really wanted it to work. Most likely you are right and is just another cult in the making though...
ReplyDeleteDon't get me wrong. I really hope it does well. This is the first time I can remember when i was more excited about a network's midseason shows than it's fall premieres.
ReplyDeleteYeah, we are in sync then. Even though I am also fairly excited about the tomorrow people and I also plan to watch the originals. But I would trade both for the hundred.
ReplyDeleteI've been overly optimistic about the CW before so that wouldn't surprise me. If Reign fails, then yes it would make sense that one of the midseason shows would replace it. However, the CW has always been reluctant to pull shows in that slot, so I'm not totally confident that they will. I haven't heard confirmation one way or another about whether CD will be full-year. I am assuming it isn't but you might have better info than I do. I doubt they will debut either midseason on a Friday, so it is possible that both Monday shows go to Friday midseason if the ratings are poor for both. It wouldn't be ideal but it might actually make both midseasons do better. I see them tucking Nikita in during the winter hiatus or running towards the very end of the season. I don't think they have to make it a traditional midseason launch because there are so few episodes.
ReplyDeleteThe CW seems to be in better shape this year with pilots so unless things are shockingly bad, I don't think they will have to keep as many low shows as they did this year. Nikita proved that the CW doesn't need 88 for syndication so even if Hart of Dixie is renewed, it does not guarantee a full season. If the pilots do well, I would not expect Beauty and the Beast to return even if the CW normally does renew second year shows. ANTM can be thrown in anywhere so it gives them flexibility and it's cheap. Carrie Diaries will go regardless, unless the CW really is going to try cable-type scheduling. My guess is that Originals, SPN, Arrow, Tomorrow People, and VD get a spot on the roster next year. Add one more of the midseason and you've got 6. Add in ANTM or a shortened season and you've basically got this year. With the CW looking to do comedies as early as next fall, that makes for a pretty solid schedule. Scheduling wise I think the biggest problem the CW will have is if ALL their new shows do well and that's a problem the CW is dying to have.
I will watch the first episode of Originals, but that's probably it. I cannot handle love triangles so any hint of that and I am out of Originals. Since I didn't watch anything but season 1 of VD and I'm iffy on Phoebe Tonkin, it really has no pull on me. I am very excited about Tomorrow People, and not just because it will complete my Wednesday night viewing schedule - Revolution (maybe), Arrow, Tomorrow People. Every new promo for Tomorrow People is looking better and better. I will also try out Reign but since it practically screamed love triangle in the previews, I have no hope for it.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure that I would trade Tomorrow People for The Hundred, although with SHIELD debuting this fall it would have made sense to flip flop them. I like the premise of the 100 and it seems like it would be a good chance to tie it into the After Earth movie, but I guess that's not to be. My biggest fear is that The Hundred will end up being the tale of ultra annoying teens emoangsting about their lives/literally absentee parents and hooking up. I haven't seen enough to alleviate those fears yet but I am hopeful.
This weekend I'm going to watch the Star-Crossed premiere so fingers um, crossed, it has a decent story line and is not just an alien version of Romeo and Juliet. I just want a new show that puts as much emphasis on telling a compelling story as it does on the hotness of its actors. Mark P has been making great strides in that direction with Arrow this year. Let's hope that tradition sticks. Oh and if he could can it on making love stories front and center, I will be one very happy CW watcher.
I'm interested to see what you think about Star-Crossed. Will you see The Tomorrow People or The 100 too?
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure about The 100 as you guys are after reading this at TVWise:
"The buzz on The 100 has been good. The pilot was generally well received but this one doesn’t seem to have wowed anyone. One source told me that they like what they saw but were concerned about whether it would be a “male skewing” series. That said, it has a strong cast and that is driving a fair amount of interest. It’s hard to gauge just how well The 100 will do internationally, but based on current buzz I’d say it’ll do ok but not great."
http://www.tvwise.co.uk/2013/05/la-screenings-wbitd-slate-whats-hot-whats-not/
I suppose the CW are less sold on it too, thus saving it to the spring. Still, I don't get what they see in Reign..
Agreed, that is a problem the cw is dying to have. When that happens though (if it happens) it just means that the bar will be higher for every show. Other than that, I agree with everything you've said. Nikita definitely proved a lot even though I am still shocked with that. Ultimately though, it seems that we agree that Arrow, TVD, Supernatural, TO, TTP and HoD are looking good to come back. That, plus 3 new shows means there is only room for one another returning show, which will be battled between Beauty and the Beast, The Hundred and Star Crossed, assuming Reign is DOA. I think the cw could pull reign though. They never pulled shows on that slot but 1) They never did that bad in the fall; 2) They had WAY bigger problems basically everywhere on the schedule.
ReplyDeleteHere is the confirmation that The Carrie Diaries got 13 episodes pick up for next season:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.thefutoncritic.com/news/2013/05/16/the-cw-confirms-carrie-diaries-beauty-and-the-beast-episode-orders-other-post-upfront-notes-417312/10382/
Yes I am also very interested that you will get to watch Star Crossed. Will you see the others? Will you review them? For me, that one is just a "Ok, might try it if I hear great stuff and if ratings are ok" show. Besides, there is not even a proper promo right? I remember checking it a while back and couldn't find it.
ReplyDeleteAssuming the CW have stable Tuesdays and Wednesdays next season they'll have no choice but to move Reign or cancel it midseason. In previous seasons they had the "luxury" of more bad nights than good nights, but this season they might not have this "luxury" anymore and I can't see them debuting a new show on Fridays. That would leave only Monday or Thursday at 9PM for a new show premiere.
ReplyDeleteI can't see any of them yet :) but I hope Dahne could using the CDs the CW sent to SpoilerTV yesterday.
ReplyDeleteThanks :)
ReplyDeleteAgree 100%
ReplyDeleteWhat follows is complete conjecture based on no real knowledge:
ReplyDeleteReign is a CBS owned production so there had to be pressure to pick it up. Actually looking at what got picked up by production company may explain a lot in the always puzzling CW renewals/cancellations. Of the shows that were cancelled, 3 were joint production with WB and CW. 90210 was CBS produced. Of the ones renewed only Arrow, a WB production, was a hit. This year they have 5 new shows debuting. Three of them (Originals, Tomorrow People, and Star-Crossed) are joint productions. Reign is CBS and The Hundred is WB. Perhaps part of the reason why both Carrie Diaries and Nikita (both WB productions) were renewed is because the WB's The Hundred took a backseat to CBS' Reign, giving them a better shot at having a hit show this year.
The breakout basically goes:
Hart of Dixie, Originals, Tomorrow People, Vampire Diaries, and Star-Crossed are all joint productions. Both studios make money off their success. This includes the top show of the network and Originals, which they are betting on to be the biggest new show. It also includes Tomorrow People, which they gave the best schedule spot.
Beauty and the Beast, America's Next Top Model, and Reign are CBS produced. ANTM is cheap so that makes sense no matter who produced it. Beauty and the Beast was somewhat of a toss up for renewal but it was the only non-cancelled CBS-only produced drama. In terms of making things even it makes sense it was renewed. It will also earn CBS money through Netflix and Hulu. Reign is the only CBS only new show that got picked up. They had to pick up one new CBS show no matter what, so they give it a time slot that looks the best on paper but is also notoriously rough on shows. WB concedes the slot and fall debut to CBS in order to get their questionable shows renewed. Of course this also means that either BatB or Reign will most likely have to be renewed next year to keep the balance if this theory is correct.
Supernatural, Arrow, The Carrie Diaries, Nikita, and The Hundred are WB shows. Arrow and Supernatural are the second and third highest shows on the network and are likely to continue doing well enough to be renewed next year too. What if the WB agrees to hold back The Hundred in favor of CBS getting the fall launch with Reign and therefore giving Reign the best chance so they can finally get a hit for the CBS side? The WB in return gets renewals for its two shows which should have been canceled. This adds Hulu and Netflix revenue from both plus extra syndication money from Nikita for the WB. For the CW, it gives them something besides reruns to put on Friday night. The midseason debut of The Hundred is a gamble for the WB, but offset by the likelihood that Tomorrow People will be a success and the extra money from shows that should really be dead.
I'm changing my mind. If it's even close between BatB, the 100, and Star-Crossed, then it is likely BatB will be renewed since it would be the only CBS produced show left. The only way they could cancel both BatB and Reign is if CBS gets at least 2 of the pilot slots for the following season.
ReplyDeleteDo you think that if all 3 pilots are successful (and yes I know the chance of that is pretty much slim to none), they will cut back orders of other shows and time share slots? I know Mark Pedowitz is eager to have the fewest reruns as possible and that means more time sharing. Could we see one of the midseason shows debut in November and pick up again in March or have only a few episodes? It's exciting to think about what the CW could do because it is the most unstable. I think Mark P was brought in to think outside of the box so there is a chance that the CW could create extreme changes that set the pattern for other network channels when they inevitably fail.
ReplyDeleteI think it really depends on what the ratings are for Monday shows. If they are getting sub 0.5, then I think there's a much better chance that their episode number will be cut or they will move to Fridays than the idea that they pull Reign. Of course this is presuming that Reign will get 0.5+ ratings. If it gets sub 0.5 demos then yes, I agree with you two.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I didn't think it would get a full season. Presuming Nikita shares its time slot that would fill 19 weeks, so a little less than a regular TV show on the CW. It does however mean that unless something airs in the summer too, they cannot share a slot with any other show. At least nothing they want to have any shot at succeeding.
ReplyDeleteI won't get to see Tomorrow People or The 100 earlier than anyone else unless the CW opens their pilots up to more of the SpoilerTV staff. I've asked to be on the waiting list for both so I'm crossing my fingers.
ReplyDeleteAs for the 100 being male skewed, that is exactly what the CW has been looking for so I think that is a good sign. That is especially a good sign for me since that typically means more action and less emoangsting. it is disheartening to hear the Pedowitz comment though. Comparing anything to Cult is not a show of confidence.
Having seen the screener for the tomorrow people, the CW would be stupid not to renew it. It's very good.
ReplyDeleteI've seen the tomorrow people pilot, and it's very good. Providing the ratings are stable, it should get renewed.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your input Bradley, that sounds good.
ReplyDeleteDid you see the new Star-Crossed 3-minutes preview? I'm not sure you're going to like it..
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah, Pedowitz's comment about Cult and The 100 rubbed me the wrong way. If he doesn't have confidence in his own shows, why did he choose them and how he expects me to have confidence in them?.. that was what I call bad marketing.
Renewed: Arrow, Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, The Originals, Tomorrow People
ReplyDeleteToss-Up: Star-Crossed, Reign, The 100 (We can't judge without watching the show even if these shows aren't as much exiting like the others (Tomorrow People and Originals)
Cancelled: Hart of Dixie; Beauty and the Beast, Carrie Diaries
