the only thing i hate about comics turned tv series, is that the writers follow the comic for romantic interests rather than the actual chemistry between characters.
Well, it seems I'm the only one that's glad we didn't have to wait a gazillion season for Ollie and Laurel to act on their feelings. Don't get me wrong, I love Felicity, and I love her dynamics with Oliver, which is why I don't want them to have anything but a platonic relationship. I mean, the writers have made it quite clear that Lauliver is endgame, so if Olicity happened sooner or later he'd her heart and that chemistry that's so fun to watch would be gone, at least if they want to keep it quasi realistic. All that aside, I loved the episode, and I loved Malcolm's reaction when he realized Ollie was the Hood. I mean, it looks like he really does see him as a son, just like Moira is family. I'll say it again, I really hope he's not the death they're talking about, and with that scene in the promo of Tommy (who is now the male equivalent of a woman scorned, lol) in the Dark Archer's suit, it could go either way. Either he's wearing the suit because his father is dead or he will die wearing the suit...
Excellent episode. Except for the Laurel thing. Not only did Oliver just get done convincing Tommy into stepping up and fixing things with her, but then he goes and says that she knows him better than anyone. No, Oliver. She doesn't know you spend your free time running around in a hood and killing people. The whole thing makes him look like a dick.
I really don't like Oliver/Laurel. I have a feeling its going to be the new Clark/Lana.
I loveddd this episode tonight, Great teamwork on everyone's part. Diggle being Oliver to get info, OLLICITY SCENE IN THE ELEVATOR!! Oh man did i have to rewind that a few times, it was sooo funny and cute. Ugh! Once I saw Oliver and Laurel getting it on, i said "DAMMIT! Now we'll have to wait like 4 years before Ollicity could eventually even being considered a couple." (Rolls eyes) Whatever, no rush, I can wait. Then Tommy seeing them in the window, I said damn, sorry Tommy, I mean he knew it would come true but still, for him to SEE IT, just made it 10 times worse!....And I loved Diggle and Felicity's scene, when he got her out of that jam, it was so funny...Roy not giving up to find out Oliver is the Green Arrow is a nice touch, looks like he'll have to come to Ollie's rescue next week, or maybe assist him in some way. Too bad about him and Thea, but not really b/c I know they're not over. Dark Archer kicked Ollie's ass. And then unmasked him, smh.....(whistles) Next week is gonna be sooo good.....I already want to see Season 2!
I think we have to remember that this show is starting at a point where Oliver is very much the Green Arrow. He is not is high school like Smallville. The first season of Arrow is like the 10th season of Smallville. Laurel is his Lois, not his Lana. These types of shows usually stick to the main love interest of the hero. I just can't wait to see Laurel become the Black Canary so that her character can become a little more interesting, and not just the center of a love triangle.
A great episode ruined by Laurel and Oliver scenes. Every single time they killed the momentum of the episode and had me watching the time instead of the screen. Ugh! This could be the dealbreaker for me. I care not one jot about these two together except for that it is useless filler when we could have an extra fight scene.
True by me. What a waste of valuable penultimate episode time! We could have gotten more Malcolm and Oliver fighting. We could have gotten more Walter. We could have gotten a longer scene with Diggle as the Hood. Heck we could have interviewed third guy on the street and it had the potential to be more interesting.
Ha! My response exactly. I tweeted that Laurel was the new Lana and that is definitely not a compliment. Oliver comes off as a douche and Laurel needs to go search for her sister in China for months.
I'll put it out there for all to see that I'm not a Laurel hater. Yes, I would prefer that they dial back all the Laurel / Oliver 'shipping but I rather enjoyed Laurel's scene with Quentin. In fact, I always enjoy their scenes together.
I have decided that shipping kills shows for me. Shippers take over the conversation and it feels like more and more writers are pandering to them. There were so many important things going on in this episode and to waste all that time on shipping aggravated me to no end.
A couple of notes: 1) I know it's cool and comic-bookish, but anyone else raising an eye at 2 people who can do arrow catching? I also know it's nitpicking but still. 2) Felicity, Queen (no pun) of the inappropriate obliviousness. Love her character. 3) Well at least Tommy finally does have a reason to throw a temper tantrum when it comes to the whole love triangle. 4) I kinda wondered what Walter thought about Moira during his captivity.
I agree there are some shows that are guilty of 'shipper pandering but, considering the sizable amount of people who are seemingly against Oliver and Laurel, that's definitely not the case here. It seemed to be in their plans all along.
Anyway, If I let 'shipper annoyance dictate my TV viewing I'd be relegated to only watching live sports.
I agree. I like Felicity and Oliver's chemistry, but only in a platonic way. I don't see them as a couple. I think it would ruin what they have and what they have, I am enjoying.
The arrow catching is complete bullsh*t. It never should have been done on the show at all. That kind of stuff should be left to the cheesy magicians and illusionists with Vegas lounge acts. It bothers me to no end that the producers who swore up and down that they wanted Arrow to be grounded and realistic allowed something so ridiculous to be put into the show.
FINALLY! Some Oliver and Laurel progress! I was ready to give up. Personally, I think anything other than a platonic relationship between Oliver and Felicity would ruin the dynamic between them. I like their relationship the way it is. Really looking forward to when Laurels character becomes more of a "player" in the show as I feel her character is under utilized. I was a little disappointed with the fight sequence tonight, hopefully they step it up next week.
Where is that? because everywhere I turn I find Katie/Laurel haters. I know this isn't Katie's most brillant performance, but I've seen her on other shows, and she's good. I mean, I loved her on Harper's Island and she was really great on the few episodes I watched of Melrose Place.
Oh well, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
I know exactly how you feel. I've been waiting for this since the beginning, but after the episode were they kissed, I figured I'd have to wait a couple of seasons. I'm so glad I was wrong :)
I'm not really invested in the Oliver / Laurel stuff but, I think that Katie Cassidy plays emotional scenes (both subtle and intense) really well so it doesn't really bother me either. Anyway, I do like seeing people such as yourself speak up in your support of the character because it can seem a little one-sided at times. I like seeing both viewpoints represented.
It's not the couple as much as it is breaking in for shipping of any couple. Shipping is now going beyond ruining an episode for me. If they continue to break into important episodes to blather on about tortured relationships multiple times, I will drop the show and I can't think that's their ultimate plan.
Agreed. "The Count" is a prime example of this. I get that, considering the source material, there has to be some balance between realism and acknowledging that this is pulp comic book fare but they tend to overdo it too often.
Helena I didn't like at all, too crazy for my taste, and I like crazy, but not her brand of crazy. But the cop (whose name I don't recall at the moment) I enjoyed. It was nice seeing him happy and more carefree, or as carefree as he could be taking into account he was keeping his alter ego a secret. Just like I liked Laurel/Tommy scenes, because she seemed to be happy. I don't know, maybe because I've always known they'll end up together, I didn't mind them dating other people as long as it helped develop the characters, or showed us different sides of them.
Thanks! checking it out. And yeah, I get your frustation. I really hate the fact that, so far, she's been nothing more than the love interest. I don't get it, here thay have a woman who is supposed to be strong and smart and independent, and what do they do? they reduce her to the love interest. Hopefully the writers will do a better job next season.
Probably the second best episode this year behind The Odyssey. Looks like things are all in place for a great finale. Like that Laurel and Ollie are finally getting together (see Green Arrow and Black Canary for further details), and the Dark Archer stuff is finally coming to ahead. Keep it up CW!
Honestly Im a bigger fan of Oliver and Laurel to not just because im a big comic book fan and know it all and stuff but the actors and the way the characters r in this specific world are good together and tonight only confirmed my thoughts. Im glad they had a little time together but knowing the show and the writers its not going to last and Oliver and her will not start anything again or do anything till season...3? maybe? Thats television drama for ya.
Maybe it's because I'm a fan of the comic books or because I think that Stephen and Katie make Ollie and Laurel scenes so worth to watch but I love the way they are handling their relationship on the show. So, no dislike for my part.
The problem for me isn't shipping or chemistry or anything else. I don't have particularly strong feelings for Oliver/Felicity or Laurel/Tommy either; not yet, anyway. But when Oliver's in Arrow mode, he's dark and brooding in a way that makes most other dark and brooding characters on TV look like they're not trying. Diggle and Felicity work as his team because they help lighten him up during his grimmer moments. The problem with Laurel is that while she plays fine off of lighter characters like Tommy (pre-Hood reveal) and Thea, or a dynamic where she's feels more comfortable to open up, like with her dad, when you mix dark and brooding with earnest and lacking a sense of humor, and you take out the cool action-packed, superhero bits, you've got a scene that can't help but drag. I can only hope that Laurel finds the fun if and when she goes hero, giving Katie Cassidy the chance to do witty banter and a little superhero sarcasm, both of which she could play well. Otherwise, she'll probably be another Oliver with boobs and no salmon ladder, and really, this show doesn't need that.
"On no." How am I supposed to interpret "Oh no"? :-) Lots of stuff to really love. Oliver sleeping with Laurel can only promise bad. Loved the ep. Felicity's comment on her brain was a hoot. Seriously need to re-watch, tho. There was so much that left me feeling like I missed a nuance.
I hope to see Oliver training Laurel to become the Black Canary. We know turning her into the Black Canary is in the writers' plan and I'd rather it be when her and Oliver are working together than against one another. Thus, whatever happens between them I hope they stay civil.
I have to agree with you. Not because I ship or don't ship (I don't generally ship) {Though I will say that I don't find this actress evokes a sense of romance or lust. Actually, as I'm typing this I'm thinking it's possible it's not specifically the actors but the directing and the shoes tone. When it comes to the romance, and I'm including the two other relationships Oliver's had this season, those scenes never rose higher than PG-13 in terms of my connecting with the show. The other emotions, betrayal, anger, loss, etc...I am right there. Hmmm.}
Sorry. I started typing to say that I agree with you. For this ep I was more interested the other high stakes emotional scenes and capers... I think the biggest problem, I had, with the Laurel/Oliver hook up is that the build up was flat. It wasn't something the last few episodes have been 'racing toward' so we could have held off on it.
Yeah, I'm starting to think...the show just isn't as successful with the romance as they are with the action.
Guggenheim interviewed a while ago and said they had to play the love triangle out before they could do anything with Olicity. I don't think Oliver and Laurel are necessary the endgame. From what I heard, Oliver and Laurel are an on and off couple in the comics too and not a great love story. I think it's possible we'll see the show ending with Oliver and Felicity together after seeing Oliver with Laurel.
That's why I hope to see the Black Canary storyline starting next season. It would give her more to do and will help the writers develop her character. She needs to be a more main character and I wish they'd write her as well as they write Felicity and Shado.
I hope to see Helena returning personally, but a less crazy version of Helena. Maybe Oliver will bump into her in one of his trips outside Starling City next year?
Sorry but I don't see this as shipping. It was obvious Oliver held a candle to Laurel during his time on the island and he can't really move on until they try and see where they stand. Oliver now needs to realize if he really does love Laurel or the ideal version of Laurel he created for himself. Any couple that will be on this show, as well as on any other show, will be involved in online shipping. If nobody cares about a certain couple then the show is doing something very wrong. Whether it's Oliver\Laurel or Oliver\Felicity or Oliver\Helena they all have shipping, and any adult show should have some sex.
I think the show isn't as successful with romance because Oliver is a pretty broken person. I can't see him having any normal relationship until he opens up about everything to the woman he's with, and I personally prefer it would be Felicity than Laurel because Felicity doesn't come with the same baggage and history he has with Laurel, and because Felicity already knows him for who he is.
Awesome episode with the exception of Lauren scenes!!! Her character brings absolutely nothing to the show but distraction!!! She's boring and has no chemistry with Oliver what so ever!!!
I worry about Felicity too, especially because Qunetin is going to take her to questioning next week and I'd hate to see her being hunted by the law. She deserves better than that.
The smartest thing to say would be that she was filling orders of her boss at Queen consolidated asking her to hack into Malcolm's company. Queen consolidated own Unidec industries and have a reason to want to find out what happened in the massacre there. I wonder if Felicity will panic or keep her cool or panic when they bring her in.
THIS! I honestly don't see Laurel and Ollie ending up together. She brings danger and she's very manipulative and she has too much baggage. She clouds Oliver's judgement and puts everyone at risk. I think Felicity is perfect because she's forward, quirky and lovable. She seems to care about all facets of Oliver;s life and I will be glad to have any sort of development between them.
I don't see Laurel as manipulative. As a girl, I think Oliver is at fault for cheating on her and I think both she deserves someone who will treat her better without all that baggage and both Oliver deserves a fresh start imo with someone like Felicity he could be honest with and will do what he can to not ruin it this time.
I didn't mean Laurel to be manipulative when it comes to relationships but just in general especially when she asks the Hood for hel, but that's just me. and I agree with you sentiments on both. I would really love to see Oliver with Felicity at some point.
The romance won't last long. Oli's sees a glimmer of a "normal life" off in the distance and took a leap towards it. But in the next ep (and i'm sure season 2) that glimmer's gonna quickly get blown out, and poor Laurel will be left hanging. It's then that lonely Oli may stoke some fires with Filicity (as she's the one that knows it all). Just cuz they hook up, doesn't mean that Oli's heart is in it though. His heart will always be Laurel's.
PS. I haven't read any of the comics, so no clue what the future holds. This is just all my guess.
I never read the comics but I heard they got divorced, would be nice if someone who does read the comics could answer us regaring it.. I want to see Oliver and Felicity after he's done with Laurel but not before, and I don't mind if it'll take them two years to get there, and I think by that time, Laurel as BC could too be working with them. If she does, then Laurel and Felicity will both be in the same status with Oliver when it comes to working with him.
Why do you think she is manipulative by asking for help? She doesn't know Ollie is the Hood, so she has no way of knowing he will run to her aid every time, even if that mean breaking his word to his friends (maybe Diggs already forgave him for that, but I haven't, lol) And she didn’t pursue a friendship with him, at least not after their scene in the club near the end of the first episode, he did. He did even though he knew he couldn't be honest with her and bring her in on his secret. You know, the thing is I don't think the writers have developed her character enough for her to be considered manipulative. I mean really, so far she's been nothing more than the love interest. Oh well, maybe were all letting our ship preference influence our a views too much.
That's exactly why I'm against Olicity! I don't want Felicity heartbroken, I love Felicity, she's the fun part of the show! And I fear what you will come to pass. The moment he realizes that "normal life" he saw in the distance, the chance to hang the Hood, it was nothing more than an illusion, he'll push Laurel away again, and after everything he's done to her, she doesn't deserve that. Although I have to be honest, if it was in her shoes, I would've never ever taken him back. He did sleep with her SISTER, it doesn't get worst than that.
Well I like Laurel but I think she relies too much on the hood when the law cannot help here which is why I saw her as manipulative. I just feel like shes so weak and her comic counter part was so empowered but then again the series is just starting. I guess I just want her to be independent, like Helena, more take action if you will. Yeah, I guess our ship preferences affect us to much.
Yeah it would be nice someone knolegeable of the comics could set us straight. The thing is, that Laurel finding out and joining Oliver, would seal Olicitys fate and not i a good way. He spent 5 years on an island thinking of Laurel, her knowing and accepting him for who he is, in all of his forms, would be a dream come true for Ollie. I don't know, like I said, as long as they don't ruin Felicty and her dynamic with Oliver, I could get onboard eventually. I hate how everyone assumes that if you ship one couple you can't ship another. I ship Lauliver, I ship Tommy/Laurel, and if well handled, I could ship Olicity.
Yeah, I get what are trying to say, but if you are trying to get justice for something and for whatever eason you can't do it your way, which in Laurels case would be the legal way, and you have an alternative or someone to turn to that can help you solve that problema, wouldn't you do it? I can't blame her for turning to him, I would. But I still get what you mean.
I don't think it will seal Olicity's fate because Oliver is currently in love with the ideal image of Laurel he created for himself and held on to during his days on the island. He could learn to know the real Laurel and he might find he's not that into her.
Having read some of the below comments, am I the only one that enjoys Oliver and Laurel? I loved that scene, and felt really sorry for Tommy when he saw them together through that window. I don't have a clue where it'll go, but I love it. Also, am I the only one that's getting seriously pissed off with all this Arrow catching? The Huntress did it, Malcolm did it. Oliver wasn't even shocked that Malcolm caught it! As for Roy, I wonder who he lost... I loved the Oliver/Malcolm fight. Awesome. Loved Malcolm's reaction when he saw Oliver. All it needed was a Jack Harkness "What have I (you in Torchwood) done?" It was interesting to see that he was remotely remorseful for having tried to kill his son's best friend. As for the island, Yao Fei? Why did he get killed? That only gives more reason for Shado to kill Fyres. Also, why did Fyres shoot Slade and Shado, but not Oliver?! I find it weird. Also, who's holding that knife? Oliver or Slade, I can't work it out.
Loved the whole ep. OMG I cannot believe the season ends next week :( :( :( :(
I think Fyres didn't shoot Oliver because he sees him as kitten that can't to anything on the island. Slade and Shado however are dangerous and he wanted to make sure they don't stand in his way. Oliver holds the knife and I think he'll use it on Fyers soon enough.
Agreed. Oliver seems pathetic. Maybe killing Fyres will be his turning point?
Ah, it was Ollie with the knife. I thought that's who Yao Fei gave it to, but then Slade had an intense face as if he was attempting to cut free. I couldn't get my head around it.
He's a douche when he talks to Tommy about how he is not standing between Tommy and Laurel that Tommy is instead but then goes and sleeps with Laurel later that day.
I don't want any shipping at all, but it is never going to happen. Shipping ends up taking over everything and becomes the end all and be all of a show, which in turn ruins it for me. There's a reason I dropped both Bones and Castle.
Precisely. There were a whole lot of things going on. The Oliver and Laurel relationship wasn't pressing and they went to it 3 times when they could have spent it on the mytharc/action and the myriad time-pressed issues at hand.
Agreed about how it is not that pressing an issue in an episode that had a lot of things happening. We could have spent more time in the more important areas instead. I don't think as many people come to Arrow for romance as they do for action. There are a lot of romance choices in TV shows. It would be nice to have the option to put romance firmly in the backseat of at least a few shows. You can't go anywhere without hitting ships these days.
I generally manage to let the shipping slide of my back. Where it makes me nuts is in shows where a man and woman are working together....(i.e. 2 fbi agents, 2 cops, 2 soldiers) That just irks me. :-)
That's true that shipping will never die. As a screenplay writer, I can tell you that no matter what there will be always a love element no matter what form because that's how it is. It's in the format.
Reading the comments i'm not going to talk much about Oliver/Laurel lol, i'm not fan of that cause it felt like 'hey let's give Tommy something to hate Oliver' other than that, Oliver you have to decide if you want to be with laurel or not. You can't encourage both Laurel and tommy to get back together and then put yourself in the middle! wtf? that wasn't cool. Ok enough with that. I said i wasn't talking about it much, seems that i lied. So apart from that, can i say.. KUDOS TO WALTER. I'd feel the same way, it was the right thing to do. I feel bad for Thea though, Roy 'prefers' the hood, Walter's gone,... and i don't expect a scene between Oliver and her in the finale so i really feel bad for her. OMG Yao Fei is dead say what!?!?! :'( Felicity is the best thing in the show, i lol'd so hard at her lines xD and i love her brotp with Diggle :D 'you're my knight in shining armour' LOLLL btw NOW QUENTIN KNOWS ABOUT FELICITY. Am i the only one freaking out??? god i had several heart attacks during this episode! too many secrets out! Awesome episode!!
From what I heard, in the comics they were married and had a daughter. My problem with Olicity is that I like Felicity too much, and I fear they'll turn her into the Damon of this show. You get what I mean, right? she'll fall deeply in love with him, he'll develop strong feelings for her, but when it's all said and done, he'll go right back to Laurel, the love of his life (and I've read and watched interviews when both the actors and the producers and writers, refer to her that way).
The problem here is, is it really worth to explore the relationship when it will cost you the character? How will Felicity be able to continue to work with the Hood, if I'm right about my assumptions? The Price to pay won't only be those wonderfully awkward moments we all love, but the characters dynamic too.
I don't know, like I said I ship Lauliver, so I may not be completely impartial on the subjects, but I do believe my logic is sound.
I just watched it. 1) Loved Felicity's random comments. 2) Yao Fei death caught me by surprise, I was not expecting that. 3) Like I said a few months ago, Moira only got dragged into the Undertaking because of Robert. 4) Poor Tommy :( 5) How am I supposed to interpret Malcom's "Oh no!".
Definitely need to re-watch before the season finale.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
loved it. except for the laurel thing. it makes me so uncomfortable. anyway FELICITY....lol....."hold on tight". best scene
ReplyDeleteI loved it ..... except for the Laurel sex. Oh, Oliver, why couldn't you leave it to die?
ReplyDeletethe only thing i hate about comics turned tv series, is that the writers follow the comic for romantic interests rather than the actual chemistry between characters.
ReplyDeleteNot a whole lot of people wanted Oliver and Laurel to happen, but because it happened in the source material they did it anyway.
ReplyDeleteI'm getting the distinct impression that "except for Laurel" will be an often repeated phrase in this discussion topic.
ReplyDeleteDamn, Dark Archer destroyed Ollie again.
ReplyDeleteGuess Merlyn is Darkseid to Oliver's Superman, a bad guy who beats him in a fight every time.
Well, it seems I'm the only one that's glad we didn't have to wait a gazillion season for Ollie and Laurel to act on their feelings. ReplyDeleteYou aren't. Some of us are just too shy or don't care to join in the chorus
ReplyDeleteI found a site where they are all pretty much Katie/Laurel fans
If they can ruin an episode for you then they are doing something right. Indifference to characters/Couples is a no no.

I know exactly how you feel. I've been waiting for this since the beginning, but after the episode were they kissed, I figured I'd have to wait a couple of seasons. I'm so glad I was wrong :)
ReplyDeleteI'm not really invested in the Oliver / Laurel stuff but, I think that Katie Cassidy plays emotional scenes (both subtle and intense) really well so it doesn't really bother me either. Anyway, I do like seeing people such as yourself speak up in your support of the character because it can seem a little one-sided at times. I like seeing both viewpoints represented.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I am allowed to post a link but here goes ..

Mostly frustration with the lack of focus on her character
It's not the couple as much as it is breaking in for shipping of any couple. Shipping is now going beyond ruining an episode for me. If they continue to break into important episodes to blather on about tortured relationships multiple times, I will drop the show and I can't think that's their ultimate plan.
ReplyDeleteMe too!! :) watching him with the Huntress and the cop was hard to sit through!! I'm glad that's over. :)
ReplyDeleteIf they are striving for realistic and grounded, they may want to stop cheesing up the villains so much. They are completely comic bookish.
ReplyDeleteThanks! :) there's two sides to everything, right?
ReplyDeleteAgreed. "The Count" is a prime example of this. I get that, considering the source material, there has to be some balance between realism and acknowledging that this is pulp comic book fare but they tend to overdo it too often.
ReplyDeleteHelena I didn't like at all, too crazy for my taste, and I like crazy, but not her brand of crazy.
ReplyDeleteThanks! checking it out.
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah, I get your frustation.
ReplyDeleteHonestly Im a bigger fan of Oliver and Laurel to not just because im a big comic book fan and know it all and stuff but the actors and the way the characters r in this specific world are good together and tonight only confirmed my thoughts. Im glad they had a little time together but knowing the show and the writers its not going to last and Oliver and her will not start anything again or do anything till season...3? maybe? Thats television drama for ya.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's because I'm a fan of the comic books or because I think that Stephen and Katie make Ollie and Laurel scenes so worth to watch but I love the way they are handling their relationship on the show. So, no dislike for my part.
ReplyDeleteThe problem for me isn't shipping or chemistry or anything else.
ReplyDelete"On no." How am I supposed to interpret "Oh no"? :-) Lots of stuff to really love. Oliver sleeping with Laurel can only promise bad. Loved the ep. Felicity's comment on her brain was a hoot. Seriously need to re-watch, tho. There was so much that left me feeling like I missed a nuance.
ReplyDeleteI liked that scene too. She is not the greatest actress but I think Paul and KC did create a good father\daughter relationship between them.
ReplyDeleteThey barely spent less than 20% of the episode on Tommy\Oliver\Laurel. There were many other things going on in this episode.
ReplyDeleteI hope to see Oliver training Laurel to become the Black Canary. We know turning her into the Black Canary is in the writers' plan and I'd rather it be when her and Oliver are working together than against one another. Thus, whatever happens between them I hope they stay civil.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with you. Not because I ship or don't ship (I don't generally ship) {Though I will say that I don't find this actress evokes a sense of romance or lust. Actually, as I'm typing this I'm thinking it's possible it's not specifically the actors but the directing and the shoes tone. When it comes to the romance, and I'm including the two other relationships Oliver's had this season, those scenes never rose higher than PG-13 in terms of my connecting with the show. The other emotions, betrayal, anger, loss, etc...I am right there. Hmmm.}
ReplyDeleteSorry.
ReplyDeleteThat's why I hope to see the Black Canary storyline starting next season. It would give her more to do and will help the writers develop her character. She needs to be a more main character and I wish they'd write her as well as they write Felicity and Shado.
ReplyDeleteI didn't think Oliver came off as a douche. He was a douche before the island, but now, I think he truly doesn't want to hurt her.
ReplyDeleteI hope to see Helena returning personally, but a less crazy version of Helena. Maybe Oliver will bump into her in one of his trips outside Starling City next year?
ReplyDeleteI wasn't expecting this. I thought he'd survive and train Oliver, and his death took me off guard.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was even better than The Odyssey. I think this was my favorite episode yet.
ReplyDeleteSorry but I don't see this as shipping. It was obvious Oliver held a candle to Laurel during his time on the island and he can't really move on until they try and see where they stand. Oliver now needs to realize if he really does love Laurel or the ideal version of Laurel he created for himself.
ReplyDeleteAny couple that will be on this show, as well as on any other show, will be involved in online shipping.
ReplyDeleteAwesome episode with the exception of Lauren scenes!!! Her character brings absolutely nothing to the show but distraction!!! She's boring and has no chemistry with Oliver what so ever!!!
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree more!!!!
ReplyDeleteAmazing episode and an amazing show.
ReplyDeleteI worry about Felicity too, especially because Qunetin is going to take her to questioning next week and I'd hate to see her being hunted by the law. She deserves better than that.
ReplyDeleteyeah and suddenly everybody knows her lol i'm happy and worried at the same time :S
ReplyDeleteMe too. I fear she'll have to hide for a while and I don't know how she'll handle it.
ReplyDeleteand how are they going to explain hacking into Merlyn's? O.o i'm trying but i can't find anything plausible lol
ReplyDeleteThe smartest thing to say would be that she was filling orders of her boss at Queen consolidated asking her to hack into Malcolm's company. Queen consolidated own Unidec industries and have a reason to want to find out what happened in the massacre there. I wonder if Felicity will panic or keep her cool or panic when they bring her in.
ReplyDeleteoh... that'd make sense, but yeah Felicity's in some trouble lol i wonder that too!
ReplyDeleteFelicity and Oliver ftw. Don't really like Ollie with Laurel...
ReplyDeleteTHIS!
ReplyDeleteAgree. Oliver/Laurel = Lana/Clark. I would personally like to see Oliver end up with Felicity.
ReplyDeleteI don't see Laurel as manipulative. As a girl, I think Oliver is at fault for cheating on her and I think both she deserves someone who will treat her better without all that baggage and both Oliver deserves a fresh start imo with someone like Felicity he could be honest with and will do what he can to not ruin it this time.
ReplyDeleteI didn't mean Laurel to be manipulative when it comes to relationships but just in general especially when she asks the Hood for hel, but that's just me. and I agree with you sentiments on both. I would really love to see Oliver with Felicity at some point.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see that too.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I just thought, too. Laurel channels Lana, except I liked the original better than the new version.
ReplyDeleteThe romance won't last long.
ReplyDeletePS. I haven't read any of the comics, so no clue what the future holds. This is just all my guess.
I never read the comics but I heard they got divorced, would be nice if someone who does read the comics could answer us regaring it..
ReplyDeleteI want to see Oliver and Felicity after he's done with Laurel but not before, and I don't mind if it'll take them two years to get there, and I think by that time, Laurel as BC could too be working with them.
ReplyDeleteYou know, the thing is I don't think the writers have developed her character enough for her to be considered manipulative. I mean really, so far she's been nothing more than the love interest.
Oh well, maybe were all letting our ship preference influence our a views too much.
Yeah, me too. I think Helena can be a great character if the writters can get pass the whole love interest thing.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly why I'm against Olicity! I don't want Felicity heartbroken, I love Felicity, she's the fun part of the show!
ReplyDeleteAnd I fear what you will come to pass.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I guess our ship preferences affect us to much.
Yeah it would be nice someone knolegeable of the comics could set us straight.
ReplyDeleteThe thing is, that Laurel finding out and joining Oliver, would seal Olicitys fate and not i a good way.
ReplyDeleteBut I still get what you mean.
Yeah, I'm just frustrated she's not the Black Canary yet or if she'll ever be
ReplyDeleteITA, I hope that whatever happens next episode, helps kickstart the Black Canary storyline.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it will seal Olicity's fate because Oliver is currently in love with the ideal image of Laurel he created for himself and held on to during his days on the island. He could learn to know the real Laurel and he might find he's not that into her.
ReplyDeleteHaving read some of the below comments, am I the only one that enjoys Oliver and Laurel? I loved that scene, and felt really sorry for Tommy when he saw them together through that window. I don't have a clue where it'll go, but I love it.
ReplyDeleteAlso, am I the only one that's getting seriously pissed off with all this Arrow catching?
ReplyDeleteOliver holds the knife and I think he'll use it on Fyers soon enough.
Agreed. Oliver seems pathetic. Maybe killing Fyres will be his turning point?
ReplyDeleteAh, it was Ollie with the knife.
ReplyDeleteI don't want any shipping at all, but it is never going to happen. Shipping ends up taking over everything and becomes the end all and be all of a show, which in turn ruins it for me. There's a reason I dropped both Bones and Castle.
ReplyDeleteBiggest shock of the night for me. I can't imagine more island flashbacks without him.
ReplyDeleteCorporate espionage?
ReplyDeletePrecisely. There were a whole lot of things going on. The Oliver and Laurel relationship wasn't pressing and they went to it 3 times when they could have spent it on the mytharc/action and the myriad time-pressed issues at hand.
ReplyDeleteAgreed about how it is not that pressing an issue in an episode that had a lot of things happening.
ReplyDeleteI think she is very manipulative with her father and Tommy, not so much Oliver or the Hood.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's just Oliver's romances. Moira and Walter...never felt like and emotionally connected couple.
ReplyDeleteI generally manage to let the shipping slide of my back. Where it makes me nuts is in shows where a man and woman are working together....(i.e. 2 fbi agents, 2 cops, 2 soldiers) That just irks me. :-)
ReplyDeleteThey did look like a real couple to me.
ReplyDeleteHow can you watch Grimm and SPN? There is shipping in those shows too and Juliette is a 100 times worse than Laurel.
ReplyDeletemaybe...but that would bring some trouble for someone... :S
ReplyDeleteHe was right about Tommy's self-esteem issues and character flaws.
ReplyDeleteThat's true that shipping will never die. As a screenplay writer, I can tell you that no matter what there will be always a love element no matter what form because that's how it is. It's in the format.
ReplyDeletethis show is so brilliant! the episode was absolutely incredible and made me sitted on the edge of the chair almost held my breath all long!!!
ReplyDeleteFrist: OMG, and second: Woha Tommy that's some tin¡ming you've got!
ReplyDeleteThis is the best episode this show ever made, and I even loved Laurel here. I'm still speechless.
ReplyDeleteReading the comments i'm not going to talk much about Oliver/Laurel lol, i'm not fan of that cause it felt like 'hey let's give Tommy something to hate Oliver' other than that, Oliver you have to decide if you want to be with laurel or not.
ReplyDeleteOliver and Laurel? Really? Why...?
ReplyDeleteFrom what I heard, in the comics they were married and had a daughter. My problem with Olicity is that I like Felicity too much, and I fear they'll turn her into the Damon of this show. You get what I mean, right? she'll fall deeply in love with him, he'll develop strong feelings for her, but when it's all said and done, he'll go right back to Laurel, the
ReplyDeletelove of his life (and I've read and watched interviews when both the actors and the producers and writers, refer to her that way).
ReplyDelete1) Loved Felicity's random comments.
2) Yao Fei death caught me by surprise, I was not expecting that.
3) Like I said a few months ago, Moira only got dragged into the Undertaking because of Robert.
4) Poor Tommy :(
5) How am I supposed to interpret Malcom's "Oh no!".
Definitely need to re-watch before the season finale.
