  3. One of the best season finale's of this year! Has only 1 season gone by!? Loving Det. Lance more and more especially after this ep! Poor Tommy that was heartbreaking especially right after he saved Laurel :( Can I just say how much I'm loving Shado, that girl got them moves! And Ollie totally learnt that neck snap thing from her, hope to see more of her and Slade next season!

    ReplyDelete
  4. Well okay then. I was really really wrong about what would happen with Tommy in this episode.

OMG, OMG, OMG!!! I still haven't finished watching the episode. I've paused it on several occasions, because it's making me anxious, and right now I have it paused in the scene with Laurel and her dad (yeah, I know everyone hate Laurel, but I don't and this is my post so I'll rant ahead) and I'm wishing I hadn't like minute ago it was paused on another scene with Det. Lance kneeling in front of the seismic device, ant it was paused there because I did not want what's been confirmed in the scene that I paused in now, to happen. I so don't want Paul Blackthorne to die!
I'll try to make a more coherent post when I actually manage to finish watching the damn episode.

  6. That was great! I can't believe Tommy died, but I'm glad they did that versus them doing some story with him wanting to avenge his fathers death. At the same time, I feel like his death was poetic in a way because his father wanted to avenge his mother's death so badly, it actually the caused something he'd never want to happen in Tommy's death.

  7. That was amazing! In a year when more established shows are fizzling like a damp squib, Arrow certainly brought it. The producers said that ep 22 was like a finale and ep 23 like a movie, and they were right.

I am so upset that Tommy died. I didn't want it to be Malcolm, but I would gladly have given up either of the Lances, or even Moira or Walter. Tommy was a character with great potential and I thought Colin Donnell was a wonderful nuanced job. (Why, oh, why did they have to get rid of one of the better actors?) I understand the show needed to kill off a valuable character for the shock value, but getting rid of him is like getting rid of Graham on Once Upon A Time, you may never get someone as good again. On the good side though, the way he died may put a sand bank in the Oliver/Laurel ship.

Because I don't like Laurel, I loved that she not only put herself in danger, she caused Tommy's death by being so stupid, and then didn't make sure he was behind her when she ran out. That's not how a superhero behaves. (Also contrast her with Felicity, who was trying to save the city rather than needing to be saved herself.)

Finally Roy does something sort-of heroic, even though he spent too much time kissing Thea when he should have been helping the people on the bus. The real heroism was Thea's, who went into the Glades to save him. (Also, kind of stupid on her part.)

  8. He died a heroes death, which is a lot better than a senseless death. Additionally, it's way better than having him be like Lex Luthor on Smallville. Other than the love triangle and a little miss direction early on he didn't really have anything else to add to the role. IMO it would have been a detriment for the series to drag that soap on and on. It's better for the audience to have an arc, some resolution, and then a new arc. This can't be some reverse archie.

HOW. IS. SUCH. A. BRILLIANT. SHOW. EVEN. AIRING. ON SUCH. A. BAD. NETWORK.

You are not allowed to have such a good shows, Cw, you are now.

This was hands down best season finale of any show in last 5 years. SO MUCH HAPPENED.

NEVER. EVER. expected them to kill off Tommy. Never ever expected Malcolm to succeed, but it felt very Watchmen-y.

I guess now we know what at least partially will push Laurel towards her comic-book fate as Black Canary. A man-made town-destroying earthquake can do that.

  10. I thought for sure he'd be Harry Osborn'd.

Ok, so I managed to finish watching this after 2 very large mugs of hot tea, which didn't really sooth me at all, and several pauses with the same purpose as the tea, which of course also failed.

Ok, so what do I start with? let's go for the shallow stuff first, like how I think I'll ship Thea and Roy next season, because this was the first episode in which Roy didn't annoy, at all, as matter of fact I actually liked him.

Now Moira, I honestly thought she was going to be the significant death, no Tommy, but I'm leaving him for last. So Moira finally did the right thing. Now, what are we to expect next season? she'll be in jail, so Walter will come back as a father figure for the kids? even though they aren't really kids? Well, no matter what they do with her, I'm glad Oliver and Thea didn't lose their mom too.

Then Felicity, I so love her character, and I sincerely hope they never ruin her by turning her into a love interest. I know the hero line from the promo was delivered in a completely different context, but why else could've actually changed Det. Lance's mind other awesome Felicity, right?

Which brings me to Det. Lance and how I paused every time I thought he was going to die, I did. I thought he was as good as gone the moment Oliver called him to get him to deactivate the seismic device, but I'm so, so glad he's not. And after this, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing him work with the vigilante more closely next season.

And on we go to Malcolm. He got me nodding and agreeing, out loud, with the TV on how right he was when he was telling Ollie how he couldn't beat him because he lacked conviction, which is something I've believed for some time now. I was very vocal about how I didn't want him to die, but it was good death for him. He died fighting for what he believed, and knowing he had won. I mean, for
someone with such strong belief in their cause, it can't get better than that.

And Tommy, oh Tommy, I know I said I rather he died instead of Malcolm, but why they have to redeem him so effectively, at least in my eyes, to kill him. I guess he was our Harry Osborn in the end, and I'll miss him dearly. The good thing, that even though it was only for a few seconds, we got the old Tommy back, the one I liked, not the bitter one from the last couple of episodes. Again, it was a good death, dying saving someone you love.

Wow this is getting long. I left my shipper self for last, because I know most people don't feel the way I do about Lauliver. I know, you'll all say they've no chemistry, but I so loved their one scene together, it was so beautiful. And yes many believe Stephen Amell and Katie Cassidy can't act, but I think they both did a terrific job on this episode, specially Stephen Amell. I could literally see his walls coming down in that scene.

Ok, I think that about covers my impression of Arrow season finale. I'll probably think of something else later, lol, but right now I'm done.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Perfect finale. I loved every single thing about it except for the Ollie/Laurel scene, which I wouldn't have minded if the dialogue wasn't so atrocious. Still, that's just a small matter in this amazing finale.

I loved that Tommy went out a hero. I've been a fan of his character since the beginning and in some ways he is a better person than Oliver.

My only regret is that Malcolm/Tommy won't go on to be the next Lionel/Lex. There is a lot of history to mine there.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I've been thinking that for a while now, and I'm soooo glad that it didn't come to pass

    ReplyDelete
  14. they used the city that they built for watchmen!

    ReplyDelete
  15. wow... awesomely executed finale with some major bummage (rip Tommy). Wondering how next season will set up, but the slate seems clear with Merlyn out of the way. Even SA's acting wasn't bad tonight, loved it

    ReplyDelete
  16. I had a lot of thoughts on what might happen with Tommy (getting Harry Osborn'd being one of them) but the one thing I never took seriously was the possibility of him dying.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Absolutely awesome...minus killing Tommy. That was the best finale of all I've watched so far and a good reminder of what this show could be on a regular basis. I cannot wait to rewatch this one.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Me too. And quite frankly anything was better than killing him. I will be sorry to see him go but at least he went out a hero.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I know you liked Tommy more than most. Sorry for your loss. :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Oh god, this finale was so different than I expected to be. I did NOT think that Tommy would die, and his death hit me hard. Before the finale, I was also thinking that Tommy would avenge Malcolm's death but that went away as the episode proceeded.

I wasn't expecting Oliver killing Fyers, either.

About Malcolm, is he dead or not?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Not dead I don't think. He will live to cause problems for Oliver some more.

    ReplyDelete
  22. It is a crushing blow since he took turns with Diggle and Felicity in being my favorite character. They were my Eliot-Hardison-Parker from Leverage and now all my dreams of Tommy teaming up with them while Oliver and Laurel moved to the country are up in smoke. Not Smoak. Wow, that was bad. A nap is most needed.

    ReplyDelete
  23. The best laid plans etc. On the bright side, now that Det. Lance is in the loop about Felicity we can look forward to many awkward conversations between those two next season. If they get a lot of screen time together I'll be very happy.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Arrow is doing/accomplishing a lot of things I never would have thought I'd see on a CW show. For one, the ending made me nearly weep. Very well acted episode especially. Bring on season 2!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Tommy's Death was TOTALLY unexpected!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Absolutely loved this episode - Arrow is awesome!!!

My only concern is that they'll drag out the cliche of Laurel blaming the Hood for not saving Tommy.... I hope they don't but it's a road a lot of shows (and comics) have followed in the past in order to keep characters apart.

    ReplyDelete
  27. the guy that plays Slade was bumped to series regular if I am not mistaken

    ReplyDelete
  28. Ok I did NOT think they were gonna do it! I honestly thought they were gonna save the day! Laurel's father and Tommy's good-byes were so sad.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Just look at how many "awesome" votes there is which is totally right and well deserved!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Holy Cheese n Toast! Arrow surprises me again!!! I hope anyone who has commented on 'bad acting' watches this episode and really sees that Amell's coldness is his character and not a degree of his skill. His broken emotions in this episode were really great. A++++++++

    ReplyDelete
  31. Pierced by Arrow! Bravo.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Malcolm has not reached peak crazy yet. That's for season 2. Scary!

    ReplyDelete
  33. #Arrow Finale so shocking!! I'm breathless

    ReplyDelete
  34. Agreed. It is always amusing to see Felicity in situations that make her feel awkward. Since that is most of the time, I expect to enjoy her in many more scenes next season.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I am glad he isn't going the Harry route too. Plus Malcolm is going to be even more nuts now.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I have to believe that Det. Lance having Felicity as a liaison, for lack of a better term, between himself and the vigilante has to be the first domino falling toward Quentin finding out that Oliver is The Hood. It can't be too much longer before he starts putting some important pieces together.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think it is the first step in accepting that the Hood can be handy himself. I do not see him ever fully accepting vigilantism but he did seem to reconcile that working with the Hood was important tonight. I could see an uneasy alliance between them on a more regular basis.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I can see that as well. Next season I'll be interested to see what Quentin's limits are when it comes to this potential uneasy alliance and how fragile it will be.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I think my favorite is when Tommy realizes that Malcolm is nuts.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Holy cow!!!! That was ... - I'm at loss what to say cause awesome isn't enough!!!! I'm sorry to see thay killed Tommy, loved his character especially when he was making Lauren busy and away from Oliver!!!
Can't wait for season two, I'm betting that we didn't see the last of Tommy's father!!! Want to see more of Felicity with Oliver!!!! It'll be a long 4 months!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. start_wearing_purple16 May 2013 at 08:13

Tommy certainly wasn't the death I was expecting but his death does certainly put a few things in motion that could be quite interesting. Also I loved the character change in Detective Lance. Long story short, the episode certainly fulfilled the name "sacrifice" in more ways than one and was very delightful.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Laurel always needs saving!!! It's tiresome!!!! Would've been glad if they killed her instead of Tommy!!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I really don't understand the hate about Laurel. I'm probably the only one to ship Laurel/Oliver. BUT I really like Felicity too...I just don't think Olivier/Felicity will happen...it's like Clark and Chloé in Smallville... :(

    ReplyDelete
  44. I feel the same way about Laurel and Oliver! Thanks ^^

    ReplyDelete
  45. This was amazing.. I wanted them to kill Tommy, I didn't want him turning evil but I.. didn't think the'd actually go through with this. I'm glad he made the right decision. Poor Tommy.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Five months :( they are probably returning again only at October..

    ReplyDelete
  47. I think this was my favorite episode. It left me in tears..

    ReplyDelete
  48. The conflict would be that Tommy loved her. She won't be able to move on with Oliver and just forget it.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Hehe, good luck! Please give us ten options..

    ReplyDelete
  50. I hope Malcolm is not dead and I gotta say I told you about Tommy :) though I never thought it would happen this way.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I will miss Tommy too but I'm also glad I won't have to watch him turning evil.

    ReplyDelete
  52. The leveling was good, Tommy dieing was good, and Felicity was good, but the rest was poor.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Those trolls probably never even watched this episode and just hate this show.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Yup, they did and it was a cool scene.

    ReplyDelete
  55. To me it shows how good this show is. It's my favorite today, actually.

    ReplyDelete
  56. He was and Shado is returning too next year.

    ReplyDelete
  57. One unbelievable finally. This is something that we haven't seen in a while i it's amazing. Great finally great story arc. And we know who the sacrifice is.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Are you sure you were watching the same show?.. That was entirely awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  59. It was awsome! The whole episode!

    ReplyDelete
  60. People looting instead of evacuating!? Yeah, that makes sense and is entertaining!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Actuslly it does. Not all people have cars, not all are sane, and not all have hope. How many people stayed in New Orleans after Katrina hit? How many Jews stayed in Germany ignoring all signs before WWII? It happens in RL too.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I'm speechless O.o i didn't expect that! I'll miss you Tommy! T^T and woah is Malcolm really alive? and is half of the city going down? and how awesome are Oliver/Diggle/Felicity trio?!?! and kudos to Felicity for not panicking when Quentin was already thinking he was going to die! I ended liking Quentin a lot :O and Roy and Thea were so cute! and Moira OMG but now everybody knows about Malcolm... what? omg i need next episode asap! but we have to wait 4 monthssssss! not fair! Awesome episode for me :)

    ReplyDelete
  63. I really loved Quentin in this episode. Now I want him to know the truth and join the Arrow team..

    ReplyDelete
  64. yes! i thought about that too! but maybe too soon? i hope at some point he'll know but i'm good if he helps without really knowing who the vigilante is :)

    ReplyDelete
  65. Me too. I hope to see him still working with Felicity though.

    ReplyDelete
  66. mmmm yes!!! now that he knows she's the vigilante's sidekick (!!!lol) we should get that! :D

    ReplyDelete
  67. Nikita is of the same caliber and yet it is stuck on the Cw too :'( makes me sad... at least Arrow is a hit and gets tons of proper promotion! Damn the mostly well deserved stigma of the CW!

    ReplyDelete
  68. lostrocks4ever16 May 2013 at 12:58

Incredible!! I'm speechless. I can't believe they did any of that but it was all amazing and depressing at the same time. I'm gonna miss Tommy sooooo much.
Interesting that both this and supernatural finale were called sacrifice. I wonder who thought of it first
This wait till next season is gonna be a killer as always

    ReplyDelete
  69. I don't know about SPN but in Arrow's case, they had another title previously (that referenced the building where Tommy's mom's clicnic was at) and then they decided to change it to Sacrifice. Guggenheim tweeted he didn't know SPN had the same title when asked about it.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I hope he gets his job back. He'll be lost if he's not a detective anymore and it won't be fair because he and Felicity saved a lot of lives in this episode..

    ReplyDelete
  71. here is my theory for season 2: Malcolm lives and finds out that his son is dead. Laurel snaps and becomes Black Canary and goes after Malcolm. After eventually finding out who Black Canary is,Oliver prevents Laurel from killing Malcolm, telling her that this was not what Tommy would have wanted. Malcolm is arrested and is sentenced to life in prison without parole. But as they take him away, he declares that Arrow should have let Laurel kill him, as it was indeed his fault that his own son was killed.

    ReplyDelete
  72. lostrocks4ever16 May 2013 at 13:43

    Thanks :)

    ReplyDelete
  73. I think he'll get it back... if not, what's the point of him in the show? he cannot stay in it without being a cop i think... he'll be just laurel's dad? i don't think so!

    ReplyDelete
  74. AMAZING. The episode was breath taking, kept me on the edge of my seat. I'm still crying over Tommy, I love the guy. I refuse to believe he's dead, nope, just no.

    ReplyDelete
  75. What the hell! I mean.. what... the hell! THIS is how you do a season finale! Freaking awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  76. Victoria Llanos16 May 2013 at 14:46

Yes, it will be very hard on her knowing thatt Tommy lover her and gave his life to sabe hers, but in all tecnicalities, she was already with Ollie when that happened, and they both loved Tommy, so maybe their love for him could bring them closer.
TBH, I don't have any theories right now and I'm not sure want to. I'll just mourn Tommy for a little a while, and then I'll start theorizing.

    ReplyDelete
  77. It could take him time to get his job back though, I'm wondering how long it will take..

    ReplyDelete
  78. Victoria Llanos16 May 2013 at 14:50

I know! This was like the best season finale I've seen in a while, probably even better because I didn't expect this quality from this show. I mean, I really enjoy Arrow and all, but it surpass all my expectations, and that has never happened.
I should probably clarify, that I'm still trying to gather the courage to watch Fringe's last 3 episodes, and that probably is the best finale of all time, but well it's Fringe, and from them I do expect such a thing.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I think we will see them becoming an item again in the future but I think both of them will be wrapped in the pain of losing Tommy at the beginning of next seaso

    ReplyDelete
  80. Victoria Llanos16 May 2013 at 15:55

Well, of course it will be very hard on them, they both loved him. Laurel will feel guilty because he died saving her. Ollie will feel guilty because he couldn't save him, but he won't be able to tell Laurel, because HE wasn't even there, the Hood was. So that will make things even more difficult, at least for Oliver who recently claimed there were so many things he's wanted to tell her, and now here is another thing he can't tell her.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I know there was LOTS going on yesterday but was I the only one who yelled "john mcclane" when oliver put an arrow through his shoulder to beat Malcolm? Man...and then i realized there was still 5 minutes left....forgot to breathe

    ReplyDelete
  82. Also, Oliver (and Thea) will also have to deal with his mother's mess. It's not over now enough though she is in jail. People from the Glades would probably want to sue her (using Laurel perhaps?) and Queen Consolidated's stocks would probably also go down in flames.

I reckon Oliver would probably want to re-build the Glades to make up for the damage but could he do that if he's broke? And would Laurel be able to stand by his side as she grieves for Tommy? Too many questions!

    ReplyDelete
  83. And I thought Quentin would be Father-of-Gwen-Stacy'ed.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Victoria Llanos16 May 2013 at 16:20

I know, I've been wondering what are their plans for Moira too. Like you said
she'll most likely be in jail, and people form the Glades would be fools not to
take the chance to sue Moira, and consequently Queen Consolidated, but what about her character. And I look forward to see Thea growing up a bit and taking the reins. Ollie will have to take his mother's place at the company, unless Walter comes back to help, after all he is their step father ad Ollie and Thea certainly seemed to consider him family.

I can definitely see Oliver trying to rebuild the Glades as way to atone for his
    family's sins.

Now Laurel, I'm not sure how she'll react to everything. I blame it on the
writers, after all she was supposed to be one of the main characters, and she
was reduced to being almost only a love interest. That said, they did try to
develop their relationship in a way that makes mostly sense, and I don't think
she'll abandon him now that he needs her the most. Just like I don't think
he'll push her away, after their scene last night, and Amell's fabulous performance in it.

    ReplyDelete
  85. mmmm i don't think it should take much... but who knows!!!

    ReplyDelete
  86. great ep. The ending was so surreal. I can't believe they actually went there. So sad about Tommy. I wonder if Malcolm will be in prison next season?

    ReplyDelete
  87. If Malcolm is alive I think he'd escape. Moira will be in jail though.

    ReplyDelete
  88. WOW! What an amazing season finale. Now to wait till fall :(

    ReplyDelete
  89. I hadn't thought of that but yeah. I could see that. I'm glad that Arrow has chosen to be much less predictable instead.

    ReplyDelete
  90. It looked like very few people had evacuated from the parts we saw. One doesn't need a car. A few hours of walking is enough to leave the Glades from what I can tell.

    ReplyDelete
  91. IMo tommy wasnt the grat of a character, he was a pain in the ass instead

    ReplyDelete
  92. And go where? To live in the streets? They weren't exactly welcomed.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Oliver having to take his mother's place at the company would only slow him down, and I don't think he'd want that. I hope he can convince Walter to return and step in instead of.

I hope to see Laurel deciding to take the law into her own hands after Tommy's death and starting her quest to become the Black Canary.

    ReplyDelete
  94. If Laurel hadn't been slated to be Oliver's love interest, how many of us would have objected to her being killed off?

As a character on this show, I think Tommy was of more value than what we have seen of Laurel. The angst for Oliver would have been as much if not greater, there would have been all the tension between Tommy and Oliver and especially Tommy and Malcolm, and either Dinah or Sara could have re-appeared to turn into the Black Canary.

    ReplyDelete
  95. They say Malcolm is dead in interviews now. I don't think we'll see him again anytime soon :(

    ReplyDelete
  96. Victoria Llanos17 May 2013 at 02:40

Hey, anything that brings the Black Canary into the picture, I'm game.

    ReplyDelete
  97. SmallvilleSupernaturalCastle17 May 2013 at 04:30

Awesome finale but one question: Did Malcolm Merlyn die? I thought he did but im hearing and what Oliver said, he might've survived? And Greg Berlanti interview said he's dead i think? I just want a confirmation Malcolm died or he's still alive?

    ReplyDelete
  98. Right? This show keeps surprising me and ME GUSTA.

    ReplyDelete
  99. The writers said he died in two different interviews and that Oliver lied because he knew Tommy was dying.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Whoa! This finale feels like the last 30 min of a Marvel film (I know Green Arrow is not Marvel)! Packed with action! It should be submitted for an Emmy award. I'm just sad that Tommy might die and I am so glad glad glad that Malcolm died. He got on my nerve everytime he appeared onscreen. I can't get over how awesome this finale is.

    ReplyDelete
  101. AWESOME finale! Finally got caught up with the entire first season of Arrow. This show rocks! This finale was one of, if not the best, finale I've seen this season! Arrow is now one of my new favorite shows, and I will definitely add it to my live-watch schedule next season.

THE SHOW, GENERAL THOUGHTS - It's a fun show, that entertains me with every episode. The actors are attractive. The characters are engaging. I love that Oliver's abs are practically a recurring star. More please! ;) Unlike what seems like most of the fandom, I don't really mind Thea or Laurel. I like them for the different sides of Oliver I get to see. The show would do well to give the interrelationships more screen time, esp. between Oliver & his family & friends. My favorite character is definitely Felicity. SO glad they made her a series regular for next season.

THE FINALE - I actually like that the show actually still set off the destruction of part of the Glades. It shows that Team "Hood" still has more to learn and grow into, as they get better at becoming heroes. Although, I like that only HALF of the Glades was destroyed, 'cause our heroes didn't completely fail. They did succeed in saving half...

NEXT SEASON - I'm looking forward to seeing more Felicity as part of the team. I'm curious to see her home life, and perhaps learn her background. I don't mind that Tommy's dead. It added gravitas to the show, since Tommy's death actually meant something. It will have repercussions since he was important and integral to several main characters' lives. Also, I hope Oliver does take over his family's business. If he moves his HQ to within his company building, he might have better resources. Now that the show got a second season order, hopefully with a better budget, they can make his HQ look even cooler and high tech. I'm curious to see some level of progress with Quentin & his interactions with "The Hood" (is this the new "The Blur"?). It would be awful if the show backtracked on the progress Quentin made in the finale. Diggle's got a pretty cool thing going so far. I generally like the the Team doing a mission together, like how they broke into the Merlyn mainframe. As long as next season is as great as this one, I'll be along for the ride.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Wow, now that Tommy is dead and Malcolm is not, what is that going to do to Malcolm's head?

  104. I love how most of us were totally caught by surprise on this.

  105. It seemed so obvious that Tommy was going to the dark side, I'm really torn about his death. It was so freaking heroic and definitive that he as not like his father, that he was a hero at heart. It was so heartbreaking and beautiful.

  106. I really appreciate something like this when it happens because it's very difficult these days to genuinely surprise an audience.
