In the preview video for episode 1.10 of Orphan Black, Cosima is seen coughing up blood. Based on the original casting notice for the part of Sarah/Beth/Karen/Alison/Cosima, we'll find out that Cosima has cystic fibrosis. From her research Cosima discovers that the clones have "degraded" DNA, which affects their lifespan. Something else that may be significant: We haven't met a clone named "Karen," so she may be one of the nine clones that we haven't seen yet. There was no detailed information about Karen in the casting notice.

    I think Sarah and/or Helena are the clones that were sucessfull. Sarah is the only one able to have children, and from Kira's accident, it seems like either she has a very quick regeneriting system or she simply can't die, If Kira can't die/get hurt/regenerates quickly, so can Sarah. Would be interesting if all the clones had some kind of degraded DNA except for Sarah.


    Also, maybe Karen is Helena, and they just decided to change her name.

    Karen could be the original clone who I think we saw in the last episode in a fancy office building...

    "Karen" could also have been Katja's original name. Or, perhaps when the pilot was being cast there was going to be another clone named Karen, but then she got written out. Because the name was mentioned in the pilot casting notice, I thought it couldn't hurt to mention it with the information pertaining to Cosima's illness. But the name could very well turn out to be nothing.

    Or the name was simply changed :P It happens all the time. I'd think on casting notice they'd put the names of the characters being played (and since Katja died as soon as she showed up I don't really consider her one). Unless Karen shows up in the finale, I'm going to bet the name being just changed.

    Could very well be. The name Helena certainly fits the character better than the name Karen would, at least with her accent :)

    sara and helena and karen .. not clones ..real eggs envitro......yoy cant observe clones... with out an origanal .. helena and sarah twins .. (escaped) karen only origanal being observered

    ..coz the shows really about sarah

    Ok I just watched the entire 9 episodes of this thing. It is fabulous, I am completely addicted. Bring on the finale. This shows deserves way more attention, it's just incredible!
