NBC - Bubble Show Decisions Expected Tomorrow

9 May 2013

NBC began passing on pilots Wednesday afternoon but numerous series on the bubble will have to wait another day to learn their fate.

There was increasing chatter in the biz that NBC was preparing to do a house-cleaning of its comedy slate, with “Parks and Recreation” the only existing comedy sure of returning, probably for a final season. But the Peacock was also said to be considering shorter-than-13 episode orders for some returning series, something studios usually dislike because it requires renewed investment for an uncertain payoff.

Among the shows on the razor’s edge are “The New Normal,” “Go On,” “Community,” “Guys with Kids” and “1600 Penn.”

Fox, meanwhile, was in the midst of making calls to producers Wednesday afternoon.

  1. Please, please, please, please do not cancel Go On.

God, I'm terrified for tomorrow now.

  2. Wow I hope it doesn't turn into a bloodbath. Hoping that the fan favorites get picked ie Community and Go On.

  3. Community definitely deserves another season, they'd be foolish not to with it being so close to syndication for a lot of sources. Go On I hope survives too. Parks & Rec is pretty safe as far as I can tell. Everything else can go.

  4. Among those mentioned comedies, Go On and Community are the highest rated, so they should be renewed and the rest should be axed. I hope they renew them for 13 episodes mid season and use the Winter Olympics to boost them both. Go On and Community have many things in common, they could be a good pairing for next season

  5. How does 1600 Penn have anything resembling a pulse? I would be okay with a 13 episode order for Community, and would like a full season for Go On, but I'll take what I can get.

If NBC cancels both of them, the only show I watch on the network will be Parks and Rec and potentially Crisis. That's pretty sad, NBC. And I watch a lot of TV :)

  6. I won't be shocked but I will be very surprised with a Community cancelation. Go On and Whitney really can go either way, but I still guess that Go On makes it and Whitney doesn't, but nothing shocks me there. I am surprised Guys with Kids is so much into the picture according to these articles, I thought it was dead.

  7. Please renew Parks & Rec, Community and Go On!

  8. I've always wondered and I'll probably asked this again in another post but how does community stand a chance at returning? I'm not an avid viewer but I know Te general plot. Hasn't it been like 4 years? Shouldn't Jeff be done with community college? I can under stand a 5th season pick up since 4 was only half so thats half a year

  9. Only one more season for Parks? Nooo, Leslie has to be president!

  10. Damn, but I wish I loved Community less. I'll be a nervous wreck until we know for sure! After that, it's either pull out the champagne, or pull out the felt goatees...

  11. So, I guess it's safe to say that "Up All Night" has been cancelled? (I know it's obvious; I'd just like confirmation on it.)

And PLEASE, NBC, keep up your good streak and renew The New Normal and Parks & Rec!

  12. No no no. Come on, NBC! You people not only threaten us with cancelling the allmight Community and also the likeable Go On, but you take forever to decide wtf you are going to do.

  13. Yes! Those are the same ones I am rooting for and in that order.

  14. NBC when are you going to support your own sitcoms? We have proven over and over again how much we love Community imagine the ratings if you only gave it some attention. I also think you should keep at leastthe spme of the other shows listed as well. I don't watch all of them but there is a nice variety for everyone to choose from. Just pick a few and really support them; don't half ass it like you've been doing for the last decade. SMH

  15. On the edge of my seat for Community. I might need help reacting to something tomorrow.

  16. I want Whitney and Parks and Rec renewed

  17. Cause the show was never abaut a college but a community... the college was only a place, one thaat can be changed if needed.
Rating wise? Community has the lead cause it has the same ratings with 84 episodes than a first season show.

  18. I said it on previous threads, NBC might be expecting Community's finale ratings. Go on and whitney pulled 1.0 and 1.1, guys with kids don't know... but they only have 22 episodes(44 in the case of Whitney) while Community has 84(they could reach 100 episodes next season, which would be expectacular considering the syndication deals with Hulu, Netflix Latin America and Comedy Central).
A show tends to drop like 20% on it's sophomore year... that will lead to ratings below 1.0 to Go on and Guys. Community is pulling 1.2's on regular episodes without a lead in(it can sustain itself, unlike Go on, for example)...
If Community pulls at least a 1.5 on today it will be renewed. SONY PULLED A VIDEO ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF TODAY'S FINALE ON IT'S YOUTUBE OFFICIAL ACCOUNT.

  19. Unfortunately, they've already sold Community into syndication, as shows only need about 88 episodes now or something (can't remember the correct number, but it's lower than 100). I am so hopeful that it gets another season, as NBC should realise they won't be spending much money on it, and they'll make it back on the syndication deal as well.

Also love Go On and Parks & Rec, they deserve another season!

  20. No I' pretty sure it's about college aka Community college. That's the entire plot and reason all of this is happening. I think it would be better to have a driving story that closes up loose ends for a proper end if Community is renewed. No offense to fans but logically this would have to end soon and properly. HIMYM has been dragging it's story for too long and I don't want community to do the same.

  21. Well I did watch the Pilot and what I got out of it and random episodes see , It's about Jeff who had like a bad diploma or like a fake one and he needs to go to Community college to get back his license as a lawyer. He then formed the study group to help him pass. It may have developed over time and I dont always watch it but I feel like it would have been better to focus on that main plot first and get Jeff back as a lawyer then open the business with friends after. Like Glee when they graduated and they found themselves slowly drown back together because of their dreams. I just feel it would be much better if it did that. Well it doesnt matter anyway if they are not renewed. And if they will be I'm sure it will be for a final season and would have to have a definite ending which can slightly be open ended.

  22. Somewhere I thought syndication for Comedy Central was 88 episodes (which Community sill won't reach this season), and other places wanted more like 100 episodes. But I could be wrong. At any rate, I hope it survives.

  23. Ok let's be fair now... monkeys on weed would make better decisions than whoever is at NBC.

  24. According to Variety 1600 Penn is also cancelled... So until now we have: Up All Night, 1600 Penn, Guys With Kids and Whitney cancelled: That's four shows...

I'm paranoid right now! I just need to know if i need to throw a party or kneel on a corner and cry like a baby... xD

Vamos, vamos! COMMUNITY! Vamos, vamos! A renovar! Que esta banda, quilombera! No te deja, no te deja de alentar!

  25. I've been watching the cancellations come in all day on this site. I'm super glad Parks & Rec survived (kind of obvious out of all of them), but this waiting around for Community is making me anxious. And I have a final tonight!

It's not about the college! Thas not the main plot! That's why the show's creator didn't want to named it Community College but just Community... That's explained in the pilot of the show... It's about a group of diferent backgrounds united by a comon cause despite their personal diference; they overcome then and raise as a community.
The creator even talked about, after season 4 make the characters open a business together.

The thing with syndication is about milestones... One is 88 episodes and the other is at 100 episodes when they are sometimes called "Golds Status" and it's sold way expensive...

If NBC survived a whole Season with shows like Guys With Kid, Go On and Whitney; they can make it so Community archive Gold Status... Community is a shared production with Sony, so it's not that expensive...

But hey! It's NBC we're talking... I sometimes believe they have monkeys on weed calling the shots; I mean, they gave Shitney a Full Season order and a 13 episode order for Community... xD
