MOVIES : Mission Impossible 5 - Confirmed

7 May 2013

Ethan Hunt has accepted another mission. Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions have set Tom Cruise in a deal to star in and produce a fifth installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise. Both Paramount and Skydance have confirmed this, but they are not saying who’s writing and directing, or when they are targeting release. I’ve heard all along that the director will be Christopher McQuarrie, Cruise’s frequent collaborator who most recently wrote and directed Jack Reacher, the adaptation of the Lee Child novels that starred Cruise.

  1. The fourth was a mistake, the fifth is just hilarious.

  2. MI 5, also known as yet another post-divorce project by Tom Cruise for Tom Cruise to try to look awesome and heroic once again while climbing buildings with no stuntmen...bla bla bla, really?
Can't he just do what other rich guys do when they hit the midlife crisis, like buying a Ferrari or a Masseratti?

  3. Well I adored MI4 it was the best of the series because it wasn't just Tom Cruise having it as a team film made it really fun and enjoyable. If they keep Simon Pegg, Jeremy Renner and Paula Patton in the mix then I will be very happy.

  4. Regardless of how insane Tom Cruise is in real life, he does good movies. I thoroughly enjoyed MI4 and I look forward to MI5 (hopefully they can get Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, and Paula Patton back).

  5. Cause he's Tom cruise that's why....

I agree with the sentiment, but I have to admit that despite my issues with him as a person, I do find him a brilliant actor, who makes good and/or fun movies.

For me MI4 was right in the fun category.
I think he's done miracle with this franchise. Sure, they might never turn out to be cinematographic masterpieces, but hey are always enjoyable, and more often than not I do look for that in a movie. So I'll take it.

  6. Actually I'd lose Paula Patton. She was the low point for me in the last one.
    Maggie Q, was MILES better.

I say bring back the MI3 crew, keep Jeremy from MI4 and lets make a movie!!!!!! (to clarify before I get jumped on: I consider Simon Pegg part of the MI3 crew, so of course I include him in this)

  7. Keri Russell was awesome! Pity her role was so small.

  9. Really? I enjoyed the third and the fourth, more than the first two.

  10. I like the third, hate the forth. I felt we had no plot whatsoever and way too much action for the sake of action - which is fine, but - with no excitement - and that's what bothers me.
Sure, it's MI, they will have pointless action scenes (if you're waiting for something else, go home), but the so advertised "jumping off the highest building in the world" and other similar shots were utterly disappointing.
I couldn't get excited watching it. Die Hard was a million times better, even though Bruce Willis is way older than Tom Cruise and had been away from the franchise for longer.
But, whatever, it's Tom Cruise. He'll shoot the movie, everybody will go see it anyway, he'll make a lot of money. We shouldn't even bother.
