CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler has now confirmed for TVLine that Season 9′s entire run will, in fact, span the wedding weekend and just the wedding weekend, as the comedy details “how each character, before Ted, meets the mother. So, they each meet her independently before he does.”

Interesting.
ReplyDeleteBut will Cristin be a regular next season? That's what I want to know!
I hope we get flashforwards and flashbacks. I'd like too Ted with The Mother in future scenes (now that we've seen her, why not?) I'd also like to see some of the good old fashioned fun from the show some more. SEriously, can we go a whole season without them in Maclarens? NO!
ReplyDeleteExactly what I hope too :)
ReplyDeletegood point. didn't even think of McLaren's. Perhaps they're now drinking in some Farhampton McLaren's run by Carl's doppelganger :P
ReplyDeleteThis actually sounds pretty interesting, it'll completely change the formula of the show.
ReplyDeleteSo how many episodes will there be? I just can't imagine how they would make 24 episodes that cover 2 days. I mean, this isn't 24 :D
ReplyDeleteThere could be flash forwards (though that wouldn't likely occur until after Ted has at least met her I suppose - so maybe not).
ReplyDeleteCool
ReplyDeleteInteresting. Did not see this coming. But is this going to be a whole season, or just 12 episodes? Because 2 days covered in 24 episodes... Well, it's going to be either really boring or fricking awesome. It depends on how they make it.
ReplyDeleteI really like it that each character gets to know the mother before Ted. This way we will know more about her.
ReplyDeleteAnd then at the last minute they'll reign in on their decision and announce Season 10.
ReplyDeleteIn which each episode focuses on a particular minute from the wedding reception, each from the perspective of a different character such as Ted, Lily, a chair and a sandwich.
Can't wait!
When the show was renewed, it was confirmed that Season 9 will have 24 episodes.
ReplyDeleteIs season 9 confirmed to be the last one?
ReplyDeleteIt will probably be in real time like how ABC's Mixology's first season will span one night. Also they will be using flashforwards and flashbacks
ReplyDeletedafuq!?
ReplyDeleteI think we've waited long enough that we deserve to know how Ted and the mother work as a couple, not just have a super boring season like season eight by elongating things out too thin.
ReplyDeleteYes season nine is the last.
ReplyDeleteyes
ReplyDeleteSeason 9 HAS be confirmed to be the last. The execs have said multiple times that they would never do a season 10.
ReplyDeleteI think she will be.
ReplyDelete22 episodes for just a weekend? What's this, 24?
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how they will approach this, it's not an easy task, but I'll trust the writers
Interesting. Hope that it will work out great!
ReplyDeleteThis is horrific. Once again the writers prove they're just amateurs.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to see they (Ted and Mother) meet, fall in love, the whole story, so that I could like her too, fall in love with the couple, seeing them together. I don't want them to just meet. I know the name of the show is How I MET Your Mother, but since it lasted this long, and it took sooooooo long for us to meet her, I wished to see them together the whole season, so that the writers could convince me that she really is the love of his life. But maybe that's the reason they're not going to do it. Maybe after so many years of Ted being "head over heels" for Robin, they don't know exactly how to make him fall out of love with her, and in love with the Mother in just one season. I don't know. I wanted to see the original love story behind the show (original meaning that it's their story that named the show). You can't always get what you want. Still, I hope the whole final season it's a beautiful ending to an amazing show.
ReplyDeleteLove the idea that everyone meets the Mother before Ted, Unsure on the idea that 24 episodes take place in entirely one weekend.
ReplyDeleteFlashforwards to Ted and the Mother dating would actually make sense, since an earlier story about her casting mentioned screen tests with Josh Radnor! If only her last scene is supposed to be with him, why would they screen test her with him? I don't know...
ReplyDeleteAnd what exactly makes you think that we won't see all that? They will have to come up with 24 different premises for episodes, to me it's incredibly obvious each one will tap on a variable of the future relationship of Ted and the Mother, thoroughly expanding and explaining it, with flashbacks to the Mother's past life AND their future relationship together. I wish I could tell this to every HIMYM fan that's hating this idea on TvLine, it's really getting on my nerves. HAHA
ReplyDeleteBut we've been getting bits and pieces of how Ted and the mother fall in love and work together as a couple since day one. If you gather all the details they've revealed in 8 seasons, we actually know quite a lot about the mother and her relationship with Ted already. I really don't understand the comments I'm seeing questioning the mother vs Robin from Ted's point of view; the narration from the pilot forward has painted the picture of the mother as Ted's perfect match, and detailed to some extent how they quickly fell in love. In a way they have told the whole story from beginning to end, through them having kids, they just chose to tell the middle part last (which I think has worked well).
ReplyDeleteI apologize for the swearing, but... this is the stupidest fucking thing I've ever heard a show try to do. It doesn't even sound appealing to watch. If I even decide to watch it, it won't be until after all the episodes have aired and I can just find out which ones to watch and which ones to skip.
ReplyDeleteHorrible decision!
That sounds better than what they're going to do in Season 9.
ReplyDeleteWhat makes me think it's this sentence "as the comedy details “how each character, before Ted, meets the mother. So, they each meet her independently before he does.”" What I understood from it was that she is gonna meet everyone else, and, like, long away the line, she'll meet him. I hope I'm wrong. But I want to see the relationship growing, you know? I hope I have the chance. But even if I don't, like I said I just hope the show gets the amazing ending it deserves.
ReplyDeleteI totally get that and agree with you, but like I said I want to have the chance to see them together (as a couple) a whole lot, so that I could fall in love with them, especially now that I can put a face to the name (the name "Mother" LOL)... And by looking at this it doesn't look like I'm gonna get to see a lot of the actual development of the relationship. But my perception might wrong (I hope)...
ReplyDeleteI don't know how I feel about this. I feel like if there were any writers that could pull this off it would be the HIMYM writers, but still. Even if they can pull it off I don't really WANT to be in this wedding weekend for months. Plus, it seems like unnecessary torture for prolonging things. In what episode will Marshall bring up being a judge? 8 or 9? When will that be resolved? 3-4 episodes later? And so on for Ted and Chicago, the last slap, etc. We'll see, I guess!
ReplyDeleteOh, and by the way, did I just completely miss something with Robin becoming a bull fighter in the show? They mentioned it in the Christmas episode where Ted set up the light show for Robin in the apartment, and am pretty positive they haven't mentioned it again. That's like the only unresolved thread besides the slap that I can remember and I don't see how they'll be able to bring it up.
I'm putting my money that even if the 9 season will be the span of the wedding weekend, we will see A LOT of flashbacks, and maybe some flashforwards.
ReplyDeleteI do too, we've had many ups and downs through the show, but I'm very happy with the overall, I really hope they can pull off this idea, I think it's a great one, if well explored. Fingers crossed! :)
ReplyDeleteI hope it's packed with flashbacks. So we'll actually get some real episodes and some novelty ones
ReplyDeleteCAN I JUST SAY, IF THE MOTHER REALLY IS BARNEY'S SISTER, I BELIEVE THE LAST SLAP WILL BE GIVEN TO TED ( BY BARNEY AND LILY WILL COMMISSION IT LOL) WHEN HE WANTS TO MARRY HER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletesuper excited. What I suspect is the flashbacks thing woven into the whole "weekend" thing. Heck the last season could have really few episodes for all we know!
But they apparently said the story narrative will be really different from the old ones. So this will be interesting.
HIMYM has one of the most ingenious story narrative styles ever. For everyone who has started to get annoyed with the writers or lost interest, take a deep breath, take a step back and think for a while. They use tons of flashbacks ( think about the tying it together bit, it must be hella difficult to get in tune with continuity and stuff), references to past episodes, flash forwards, major cultural references and other puns, mind-screwing (is she isnt she will they wont they) , bittersweet moments, interesting choice of character developments ( rather heavy stuff for a sitcom, think about it, ROBIN CANT HAVE KIDS), and a whole list of awesome. This isn't just a sitcom, its partially slice of life. Think about how many times Ted says " Kids, when you've __ ( insert experience or social truth here)__ " Its ACTUALLY AMAZINGLY SLICE-OF-LIFE ACCURATE? i,e, my favorite episode in season 3 when he dates the chatty girl ( and the glass shattering theory) , its extremely relatable.
EVERYBODY FRICKKING THINK ABOUT THE AWESOME PAST EIGHT YEARS OF ROOTING FOR/HATING ON TED ! HIMYM ENDING IS A SIGN OF A NEW ERA OF TV SITCOM APPROACHING!!!! THE GANG ARE A PART OF TV HISTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THINK ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok I'm calm. Everyone calm the hell down. :P
Seriously though, the story has been a part of my youth. Im sure its been for everyone else too. Let's just thank Carter and Craig for sharing their experiences and this amazing journey with all of us instead of hating on the possibilities of the show.
When the show was renewed, it was confirmed that Season 9 will have 24 episodes.
ReplyDeleteIs season 9 confirmed to be the last one?
ReplyDeleteYes season nine is the last.
ReplyDeleteI heard if ratings are decent, CBS will renew HIMYM for 10th season and the entire 10th season takes place during the ride back from Farhampton to New York.
ReplyDeleteI'm kidding, it's the final season :P
Season 9 HAS been confirmed to be the last. The execs have said multiple times that they would never do a season 10.
