  4. There is something about their acting that is just so...real. This scene isn't that groundbreaking, but by the end I was so tense, lol. And aww, Sherlock. Yay for not marginalizing your domestic partner/BFF/maybesoulmate.

  5. I'm so happy the writers didn't go for the usual "sexual tension" between Joan and Sherlock. Their relationship is so unique; they have a great friendship and partnership. Thanks Elementary to show us that yes, two straight people can be very good friends without it ending in bed at one time or another.

  7. I'm not sure where I stand on the whole romance issue with this show. Yes, it's refreshing to see two people of the opposite sex have this awesome Mulder/Scully-esque intense friendship. Bromance, platonic romance, whatever.

However, I think it's a mistake to assume that romance would ruin this show outright. I'd almost make the argument that why not have them slooowwwwwllyyyyyy evolve in micro-scenes over the years (a la Grissom and Sara--that wasn't obstrusive until they decided to kill it, really) and then just make it a non-event. They're already essentially married. Why does a well-written, well-acted show need to make a point of not having a fulfilling relationship between the leads?

Now, whether that opens a wormhole in the Arthur Conan Doyle universe, that's for a different debate, but to assume all romance is bad is misguided, I think. I'd LOVE to see a show pull it off and if anything, Elementary is already in that space since no living arrangements would have to change. The bond is increasing by the week. I don't care either way, but Sherlock and Watson have been "shipped' by fans in every adaptation. They're the most important people in each other's lives. It's a weird balance. In the books, Watson got married and that marriage ultimately failed because of his allegiance to Holmes and fascination with his work.

  9. *shrugs shoulders* Sorry I offended you. Geez.
Anyway, why don't I erase what I said and stick with this. The show won't focus on romance...the series will be about the cases the team work on, and I'll definitely enjoy the progress that Watson makes as she learns more as an investigator. She done a fantastic job in the season finale, she was the one (along with Sherlock) that outsmarted Irene. I was shouting 'GIRLPOWER' when she came through the hospital room.
And yes, I was being a hypocrite about what you quoted and what I said before. From personal experience, I don't believe in marriage, and I don't expect to get married and have children in my future...so why should I say that every woman wants that in their life, if I don't believe it? You make a valid point and I'll apologize once again. Me and my stupid assumptions *bumps head with my hand*

  10. Mary did die, but the marriage placed strain on the Holmes/Watson dynamic and Watson and Mary started spending more time apart, etc. He was always at Sherlock's. Holmes was not excited about Watson's marriage to Mary Morstan.

  12. In the books Watson's marriages didn't fail because of Holmes if I remember well. Mary died during "The Great Hiatus". There's not much information about Watson's second wife but I don't remember anything said about marriage problems.
