I hear leads Gibson and Mantegna, whose re-signing is considered crucial to the the pickup, are close to new agreements, while Moore is deep in negotiations but far apart on the money.
Meanwhile, I hear fan favorite Vangsness and Cook have turned down the offers, and with the clock ticking, it is unclear whether the two would come back next season. I hear the duo, who are negotiating together, have decided to take a stand on the treatment of female cast members on the show as the two have consistently been been paid less than half of what all of their male counterparts — not just stars Gibson and Mantegna — are making. With the new offers again positioning them well below all other cast members, I hear Vangsness and Cook are willing to walk if they don’t get some parity with their co-stars.

Good for AJ and Kirsten! I hope they get what they're asking for.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear it. There's no reason why they shouldn't have the right to equal pay. This discrepancy has been going on far too long, and I'm always glad when someone goes for it. Really, I remember Gillian Anderson waging the same battle, and that was around 20 years ago; somewhat sad how little progress has been made.
ReplyDeleteOh, no, that is absurd. Pay up, CBS!! They are vital cast members and essential to the soul of the show.
ReplyDeleteI can't even imagine the show without AJ and Vangsness or Moore. Don't toy with my feelings, CBS.
"Gillian Anderson waging the same battle, and that was around 20 years ago; somewhat sad how little progress has been made." Sadly, you make a hell of a point here.
ReplyDeletethey deserve to be paid the same amount as the males. love the two of them
ReplyDeleteGIRL POWER ♥♥
I am not even a regular watcher but that they are paid less than half of their co-workers is insane. Glad they are making a stand on it. Hope they get what they want.
ReplyDeleteArgg CBS just pay the people their money- I don't think I'd be able to stay away if they weren't in the ninth season but it would make it suck I was totally cool with the new chick but i am not warming up to two new cast members. Good for them though i just hope it doesn't back fire.
ReplyDeleteOh god, now I'm nervous. JJ and Garcia are my favorites along with Reid! If they leave, I will stop watching. I could probably live without one of them on the show, but not both. Come on Criminal Minds, didn't you learn from your mistake of shafting the female cast members during season 6?
ReplyDeleteSomeone who's more familiar with the industry maybe can answer this:
ReplyDeleteIt's my impression that salaries for actors are based on both their resumes and their roles on the show, and are set early on and then increase as the show goes on; so wouldn't it be expected that aj and kirsten would have the lowest salaries, as they don't have the background that would demand as high a salary as gibson/mantegna/tripplehorn (all three with more past successes), and as they had smaller roles early on in the series (garcia wasn't a regular until season 2, and jj had a lot less screen time than the rest of the ensemble in season 1) having nothing to do with gender? If it is an issue of gender then obviously that's horrendous and needs to change, but are we sure it isn't due to other factors?
This! I'm thisclose to giving up the show because I'm starting to lose interest, but if AJ and Kristen leave, I am 100% out. I'm still not over the clusterfuck that was CBS firing AJ and Paget.
ReplyDeleteWhile I don't want to lose JJ and Garcia those two Ladies are worth twice as much to this show and should be demanding for equal pay. Then again I'm pretty sure what they make now would stop my heart but ya they have a right to be pissed I would be if I were them.
ReplyDeleteI remember the adult cast of Modern Family recently re-negotiated their contracts. Ed O'Neill initially made more than the rest of the cast because his name was the biggest draw as a veteran of Married with Children. Now, however, the adults (excluding the child actors for Luke, Manny, etc) negotiated together to make the same salary.
ReplyDeleteIt would be fine if Gibson and Mantegna made more money since they are the leads. Having Cook and Vangsness make significantly less than Moore or Gubler, however, is not okay. They all receive equal billing as regular cast members. You are right that gender may not even be the main factor. It would be just as wrong if Moore and Gubler made significantly less than Cook and Vangsness. It sounds, though, like the female cast members are being lowballed here.
I really hope they get what they asked for, and also I hope they can return next season :)
ReplyDeleteI was able to forgive them because they brought both actresses back and gave Brewster the option to stay longer if she wanted to. I'm still a big fan of the show, and I think people are being a little unfair to Tripplehorn, but if Cook and Vangsness leave, I too am 100% out.
ReplyDeleteYeah this happened on FRIENDS too when David Schwimmer made a stand that they all got equal pay.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm still not over CBS firing AJ in season 6!
You go girls
ReplyDeleteI don't even watch the show anymore and I think it's absurd that Cook and Vagsness got paid less than half of what their male collegues got- though this is CBS and I'm not surprised. I hope Cook and Vangsness succeed and get paid the same as the guys (at least the same as Moore and Gubler).
ReplyDeleteDon't really watch the show, but I do think their reasoning is more than valid...
ReplyDeleteWow CBS aren't really for the ladies are they? After kicking Jennfer Esposito off of Blue Bloods and what's happened previously with Criminal Minds. I hope they fight! They deserve better :)
ReplyDeleteWow I want to say I can't believe the female cast members have been terribly underpaid for 8 straight seasons but after what CBS pulled with firing AJ and Paget two years ago...it shouldn't surprise me... CBS you came to your senses with that one... now be smart about this one. Give them equal pay.
ReplyDeleteIf Cook and Vangsness aren't receiving less than half the amount of air time, or aren't in roles that are less than half as important as Gibson and Mantenga, why are they being paid less than half their counterparts salary? I'd think that after 8 years, they'd be more likely to have similar salaries than the others, not something so significantly different. It shouldn't shock me that they don't given what CBS did to Brewster and Cook only 2 years ago, but in the political and social climate we live in today I suppose it does.
ReplyDeleteCBS, I don't care if they want a 400 room mansion as payment. Give it to them.
ReplyDeleteI get that Joe and Thomas are getting high salaries because, as you said, of their resumes. What I don't get is that MGG is getting 100K salary when he was virtually a nobody before CM. If he can have that much as a salary, how come AJ and Kirsten only gets less than 50% of that?
