The drama about a girl in possession of a great gift/powers - which will come into their own in seven years - and the man who is sprung from prison to protect her from those trying to hunt her down has been picked up by NBC!
Oh yeah they have been trying to get one for years and keep on failing (Invasion, Flashfoward, V, The Event, Alcatraz, even Revolution isn't a huge hit just doing good for NBC standards) because they don't really get why Lost was so popular. It wasn't just the mystery it was the characters and how well written they were and how the audience could connect to them.
a bit like until death do us apart, but the man in that was a blind swords man with hi tech geometric view glasses, and had to protect girl with powers i will watch it.
IMO Alcatraz failed because they started mid-season with a sci-fi show without enough promotional advertising, didn't get to the female protagonists' personal life soon enough, and should have given it more than 13 episodes to develop. (I think Awake had similar problem in terms of promotion and it seems starting sci-fi mid season is just a bad thing right now).
Revolution has HIGH DVDR numbers, so I do think a lot of people watch it, but they just like to watch it later...I think it's hard to compete with Castle and Hawaii Five-O, but the show on the whole has continued to get better. The acting is decant and execution has greatly improved. The one thing that I think is holding it back is network execs need to make it have a procedural-feel with every episode having a little story of the week. I'm hoping like a lot of the other Bad Robot shows that once we get into second seasons and beyond that it gets more serialized and character driven.
Alcatraz premiered to a 3.3 demo rating and 10 million viewers so don't blame mid-season or advertising because plenty of people tuned in to sample the show.
I don't even remember it being that high. I liked it a lot and think it would have had another season, if it had not been for Fringe negotiating a final season.
Def think "the stories of the week" is holding Revolution back at times, but I'm hopeful with Believe since Hannibal has been pretty nicely serialized, that they'll let Believe get into it all a little sooner.
I want this to be good.... but I'm keeping some reservations. It seems a little too high concept and it might not be able to keep people's attention. On the plus side it does have a built in 7 year plan...that's always good in my book.
Nothing will ever be like LOST! It's just not.going to happen. IMO J.J. Abrams (or Bad Robot) has done very well though with Person Of Interest and Fringe in terms of producing quality TV. Both such great myhology/character driven shows. I'm guessing Believe will not be a "story of the week" type of show so I'm really looking forward to seeing what they've done with that one!
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Yessss!
ReplyDeleteJJ's got the magic touch....in terms of getting shows picked up!
ReplyDeleteI edited dmy post to include Believe's pick-up.
ReplyDeleteJJ and Bad Robot are taking over the world of entertainment.
ReplyDeleteIn terms of ratings, networks want another "Lost".
ReplyDeleteAaa will leave the rest of this batch to you then :)

ReplyDeletePretty much.
ReplyDeleteThey'll probably do a ABC and put up everything to see what sticks. It worked for them and they got "Modern Family" out of it. :)
There comedies are in a worse state than their dramas.
Yes!
ReplyDeleteAnd they already know they can't get it with Revolution. I think Believe could lead-out the Voice next year.
ReplyDeleteJ.J. Abrams and Alfonso Cuáron coooool. I'm in.
