Marc Guggenheim, along with the series' co-creator Greg Berlanti, wrote the screenplay for the 2011 movie Green Lantern, which starred Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan/Green Lantern and Blake Lively as Carol Ferris.
When asked about both Hal Jordan or Carol Ferris making an appearance, the executive producer wouldn't say one way or another, but did hint that he may bring Ryan Reynolds back.
"I would never say never. It's certainly something that we've talked about. As with all DC characters, we have to figure out a way for those characters to fit within our Arrow universe. But when you consider the importance that Hal Jordan plays in the Green Arrow comics, it's certainly one of those names that we've discussed a great deal. I have Ryan Reynolds' phone number around here somewhere."

If they want to keep it within "reality," I think they should bring Carol to give like a press release for the company. I don't know, just my suggestion.
ReplyDeleteThat movie was terrible. Don't list it as if it's an accomplishment worth talking about.
ReplyDeleteIt really is time that Arrow stop with the "no powers" thing. It worked for The Dark Knight because it was a contained universe. There was no Superman or Wonder Woman in that world. But Arrow has already reached in other parts of the DC Universe, so having no powers will get ridicules and limits the series so much. They can keep the show's "real and gritty" tone, but there's no reason Green Arrow can't fight someone with powers or Black Canary can't have her canary cry.
ReplyDeleteI'm more concerned with quality and integrity than ratings so I'd rather have the creators stick to their more realistic, no-powers vision.
ReplyDeleteIf they're doing a Green Lantern add-on to the show, they at least need to go the whole hog and either introduce a new Lantern like Simon Baz or get Ollie caught up in the Sinestro Corps storyline.
ReplyDeleteThey don't have to include their powers you know, they can include a more realistic versions of these characters too.
ReplyDeleteThey wouldn't have to include their powers, Hal's appearance could before he becomes a part of the Green Lantern Core, and Nightwing doesn't have any super powers, and the Question well I've never really read much about him so I'm not sure what his powers are but I'm sure there would be a way to incorporate him in this realistic gritty way that the series projects...
ReplyDeleteHow do you do a realistic version of an intergalactic cop?
ReplyDeleteI have no objection to an appearance by a pre-Green Lantern Hal Jordan.
ReplyDeleteYou claim he's not intergalactic and has a mental disease that makes him think he is? That's just one possibility, or maybe you don't claim he's intergalactic at all.
ReplyDeleteI think the idea Hylauronic (posted below) had about bringing on Hal Jordan before he became Green Lantern is a much simpler and workable approach.
ReplyDeleteRight. And when it's Season 5 and they struggling to adapt comic characters to this world, will you still feel the same way? It's easy for The Dark Knight to do it well, it had three movies. Not 6+ 22 episode seasons.
ReplyDeleteTrying to not appear "comic-y" is goign to end well because you have to come up with contrived ways to explain things. Look at Count Vertigo, it was embarrassingly bad. Removing his powers did the character no favors.
If you want to worry about season five at the end of season 1 you go right ahead.
ReplyDeleteYes, god forbid writers think ahead a little bit and have an idea which way the series is going to go. Because not having an idea of what you're doing ends well.
ReplyDeleteThe EPs state all the time that they have plans not only for the overall trajectory of the show but for many individual characters. It's obviously not an issue for them and, so far, most aspects of the show are being handled admirably well. God forbid you'd give the creators of a successful show the benefit of the doubt.
ReplyDeleteEven though I am liking this "no super powers" approach of the show, I'd be interested to see how they might incorporate the superhuman aspect in it too.... I can live without it, all I'm saying is it might be an interesting experiment.
ReplyDeleteThough if I were to pick a GL for the show I'd say go with John. (cause as much as I adore RR, his GL kinda sucked, and it's kinda tarnished Hal Jordan for me at the moment)
i like arrow the way it is. forgive me but i'd rather the series do what it wants with the story, get inspiration from the comics but not follow. yes this is because i'm not a fan of the laurel endgame
ReplyDeleteI would love to see Roy being teached by Oliver and becoming like a Red Arrow or something
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying the show a lot with no powers. I think it will change it significantly if we start having these people flying around, or people like the Green Lantern with these epic powers. The level Oliver is at right now I don't think he could deal with a super-powered villain well -- not that I mean it in a bad way, just that it's realistic.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I think that superhuman abilities may actually limit the people who watch Arrow to the comics crowd. By running similar to how it has this season, it is more open to non-comic fan viewers.
ReplyDeleteThey could always create unique characters that do not have stories in the comic book world. Then they don't have to struggle to adapt anything.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't mind Hal Jordan or Carol Ferris making an appearance. Its an alternate universe with no superpowers so versions so an unpowered Hal Jordan working as a fighter pilot would be fine with me.
ReplyDeleteJust no powers. The producers said there would be no powers at the beginning of the series, and its much too late to change their mind now.
Mr. Blank is a good example. J. August Richards was great as Mr. Blank.
