  1. Arthur Pendragon is the one for me. Merlin will forever live on.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Definitly Sun and Jin from that list!
Every time i see this i start to cry :(
But there also a few other sad deaths! Like Amanda from Revenge, Lexie from Greys, Jeremy from Vampire Diaries (although the saddest part about that was Elenas reaction in the next episode...)

    ReplyDelete
  3. Arthur ! It was sooo damn sad ! :'(

    ReplyDelete
  4. Joyce Summers. The lack of music makes that scene one of the saddest and most beautiful death in the history of television.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Juliet Burke! That haunted me for weeks, it was horrible. I was not able to bring myself to watch it again and I was really feeling like someone I actually knew had left, it was horrible. Elizabeth Mitchell and Josh Holloway were phenomenal. I don't think I will ever have a fictional death that has me as much invested as that one. However, on a lower level, Lori's death this season on the walking dead had me in tears as well, it was painful to watch.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Without any doubt or hesitation it was Opie's death on Sons of anarchy (Ep 5x03 - Laying Pipe)!

I am VERY rarely affected by TV deaths in shows I watch, but that one got to me!

    ReplyDelete
  7. Only one???
    No way, there are more....

    Arthur Petragon (Merlin)
    Lori Grimes (The Walking Dead)
    Lexie Grey (Grey's Anatomy)
    Mark Sloan (Grey's Anatomy)
    Andrea (The walking Dead)
    George O' Maley (Grey's Anatomy)

  8. omg so many sad ones it was hard to choose. trying to think when i cried the most and surprisingly, the winchester deaths were on the bottom of my list. lost and criminal minds had some heart wrenching death scenes but for me number one saddest tv death (and maybe even moment) of allt ime was charlie in lost. i will never forget "not penny's boat".

close second was juliet's death from "the incident" in lost. omg sooooo sad. i bawled my eyes out.
then came hayley's death in criminal minds. that whole epieosde was just so overwhelming and emotion and well done and terrible and incrdible all at once. i cried so hard.
    great poll.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Out of these, Charlie. Second would be Juliet. Also Etta in Fringe, that was really sad.

These deaths afected me a lot. Also George, from Grey's Anatomy. I stopped watching the show for a while because of his death.

    ReplyDelete
  10. A distant #2 would be Shane killing Curtis 'Lem' Lemansky on The Shield.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Kate on NCIS and Amanda on Revenge were quite sad

    ReplyDelete
  12. To be honest, there are just so many of them, it seems impossible to choose. The ones that make you cry, the ones that are just so heartbreaking you can't imagine it could be any worse. And then comes another.

Sam and Dean, Charlie and pretty much everyone on LOST, Ned on GOT, lately Amanda on Revenge and now Sean on Nikita... I could go on for a very long time.

But you know what, I have one that I don't think I'll ever be over with. Cause it's final, nobody came back, there was no happy ending, not even a flashback, a glimpse, a hope, just the feeling that everything you imagined would happen, never did, all the promises on the show felt empty and it's been 4 months and it still really hurts to even think about the show. One of my very favorite show and I'm still not able to watch ANY episode again. Just too painful. Didn't expect anything like that to happen. Hopefully, in time it will change, but for now, I'm just trying to convince myself the last episode never happened. So, it's Arthur's death on Merlin. There's nothing more sad than watching your favorite character dying slowly, in agony, through entire episode, hoping that he's gonna be okay and then realizing that everything that was promised, all the amazing things he was destined to do, he never got a chance. He barely learned the truth...

    ReplyDelete
  13. Lexie Grey (GA), Alaric (TVD) I was like who's Rose? haha.. and newest sad death Evan (BATB)

    ReplyDelete
  14. George O'mailey

    ReplyDelete
  15. I had to go with Jack in LOST. Not only was his death sad but the fact it was the last scene of Lost EVER, created a real moment of grief.

    Long Live Lost

    ReplyDelete
  16. Kol Mikaelson - tvd. it really got me most

    ReplyDelete
  17. Oh this list I have to go with Charlie on Lost. He died in order to save Claire, and everyone, (even though not how he expected it to play out). Sad to see him go, but he went out a hero. Jack, Jin, and Sun's death on Lost were also pretty damn sad, Jin and Sun really sad, Jack another heroic sad death. I was also saddened by Eddard Stark's death, damn you Joffrey!

    ReplyDelete
  18. start_wearing_purple20 April 2013 at 11:54

Tara in BtVS and Vincent Nigel-Murray from Bones. Also a few other deaths that turned out not to be real deaths: Vaughn in Alias and H.G. Wells in W13.

On this list... gotta go with Charlie Pace. Very classy self sacrifice.

    ReplyDelete
  19. No Greyss deaths?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Maeve,definitely... :'(

    ReplyDelete
  21. First has to be Opie from SOA. Such a brutal way to go, and the fact Jax, Chibbs and Tig had to watch made it even more moving. The wake afterwards was just as gut-wrenching. Second is Juliet; the chemistry between Elizabeth Mitchell and Josh Holloway made it one of the most memorable moments in Lost.

    ReplyDelete
  22. From the list I would go with Sam Winchester, whose first death was both shocking and heartbreaking, Arthur Pendragon and despite being frustrated with her from time to time,Lori Grimes.
Ned Stark's death would definitely top the list if I hadn't read the books and knew it was coming.

Other - Andrea and Merle Dixon from The Walking Dead,Laura Roslin from BSG,Jack Bristow from Alias,Mark Greene from E.R,Bobby Singer from Supernatural(you know which time I'm talking about) and of course Spartacus,Crixus,Gannicus and all the other characters from Spartacus(because even history couldn't prepare me for that).

    ReplyDelete
  23. Lexie & Mark on Grey's Anatomy, Anna & Jenna on TVD

    ReplyDelete
  24. Charlie, Lost for me, but all the lost deaths were the ones to effect me the most.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Mark Green from ER, I still cry every time I watch that episode.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Wow, the poll couldn't be more subjective, now could it? My pick would be Nate Fisher from Six Feet Under.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Either Ben or Laverne on Scrubs...

    ReplyDelete
  28. Buffy and her mother, both in one season. Those were the most heartbreaking TV deaths I've ever seen, along with President Roslin's death in the BSG finale. After three straight hours of epicness, her death was the least I needed to cry for hours after that.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I would say Rita from Dexter, it was so sad and shocking.

    ReplyDelete
  30. All the Lost ones made me sad. Ned's was awful too.

    ReplyDelete
  31. gotta add mark green Er (cried SO hard at that one) and when John Ritter's character from 8 simple rules died bu that also probably is because he died in real life. I think that was one of the saddest episodes of tv of all time

    ReplyDelete
  32. Joyce Summers.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Sansa's Dire Wolf (Game of Thrones)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Jenna on TVD, couln't stop crying! So sad!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Every death in Lost was sadder than deaths in any other show...but if i had to choose one that would be Charlie...

    ReplyDelete
  36. InvestedInYourFuture20 April 2013 at 13:46

Other - Joyce Summers in BTVS.

That's literally THE BEST executed death in any sort of tv show everr.

    ReplyDelete
  37. For me it has to be Charlie,i mourned his death for days.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Other - While death is fluid in Supernatural and we had more important deaths, the one that really got me emotionally was Ellen and Joe's death. It was beautiful and haunting and heroic. Everything you could want in a powerful death scene. Dean's reaction to Sam's death was also powerful, but the death itself wasn't as sad because you knew Sam would be coming back somehow.

    ReplyDelete
  39. The utter shock of it since it was natural causes not supernatural also factors in to how powerful it was.

    ReplyDelete
  40. What about 24? Teri Bauer, Bill Buchanan, Renee Walker

    ReplyDelete
  41. Had to go with other because Kate Todd's (Sasha Alexander) death on the season 2 finale of NCIS still affects me to this day.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Missed out people like Alaric, Jenna and Elena from TVD, Elena's imo was the saddest thing i've ever seen!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Jenna and Jeremy Vampire Diaries

    ReplyDelete
  44. It was a great ep. There was no music at all, which made it so different from any other show.

    ReplyDelete
  45. What about Anya?

    ReplyDelete
  46. For me it's Sun & Jin, one of the few times I cried like a baby in front of the tv

    ReplyDelete
  47. Same here. For Jenna and Jeremy

    ReplyDelete
  48. 1. George O'Malley - Grey's Anatomy.
    2. Juliet Burke - LOST.
    3. Charlie Pace - LOST. / Jen - Dawson's Creek.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Dean... screaming in hell. Breaks my heart every time I watch

    ReplyDelete
  50. On the list: Sam Winchester in Season 2 then Rose on TVD.

Off the list: God, I've had my heart broken over characters too many times. SPN (Sam, Dean, Bobby, etc), OUAT (Graham and Daniel), Vampire Diaries (Alaric, Jenna, Jeremy, Lexi, Zach, etc), Fringe (September and August), and mostly recently Nikita (Spoiler: ......Sean), like to rip my heart out.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Bobby from SPN

    ReplyDelete
  52. Dan and Keith Scott on OTH'Mike on DH ,Jeremy on VD

    ReplyDelete
  53. Sam Winchester mainly because of Dean' reaction and the bedside scene, but you should have had Bobby Singer.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Genevieve Taylor20 April 2013 at 16:01

Charlie on Lost. No question. Traumatising.

    ReplyDelete
  55. six feet under... I cried like a baby. then Merlin & Lost

    ReplyDelete
  56. OMG when Bobby died I was a MESS! For WEEKS I was just SURE they had him
hidden away somewhere, safe from Dick. I kept creating scenarios in my
head because IT.JUST.COULD.NOT.BE! When I watched it later, KNOWING he
was dead, I cried like a b*tch lol

    ReplyDelete
  57. Sun, Jin, Jack, Charlie, Juliet (LOST)
Jenna, Jeremy, Rose, Alaric (The Vampire Diaries)

Lexie Grey, Mark Sloan, George O' Maley, Denny Duquette (Grey's Anatomy)
Nedd Stark, Khal Drogo (Game of Thrones)
Joyce Summers, Angel, Spike, Tara Maclay, Anya (Buffy The Vampire Slayer)
    Jack Bristow, Nadia (ALIAS)
Michelle Dessler, Teri Bauer, Toni Almeida (24)

  58. Tara on Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Fred on Angel . . . it is a tie with me on this one.

    ReplyDelete
  59. SmallvilleSupernaturalCastle20 April 2013 at 16:28

    Jonathan Kent- Smallville

    ReplyDelete
  60. There have been so many sad deaths on TV, that I had to choose the ones who I remembered! For me, the saddest death was Charlie Pace from LOST :(

    ReplyDelete
  61. Her too, but it was so fast it wasn't really anything you can react properly among the chaos(although I did cry and kinda missed half the finale).

    ReplyDelete
  62. Roy Montgomery. :( <3

    ReplyDelete
  63. Arthur's death in Merlin tops it for me. Mainly because it was not right he died. He was too young (even if you are deciding to sticxk to the legends) and he had not fulfilled his destiny as promised by the writers for 4 seasons!
I will probably live with the trauma forever. :) Jokes aside I do not think I am actually over it yet.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Marissa Cooper (The OC SEASON 3 FINALE) Keith Scott (OTH) marissa's death was alot sadder. why did they have to kill her. the could have just let her go to the airport and leave the oc. why kill ?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Other. For me it's the death of Andrea from The Walking Dead, how can you possibly put Lorie and not Andrea ? o.O Andrea was such a strong character, her death breaks my heart...

    ReplyDelete
  66. How has no one mentioned Sybil on Downton Abbey?

    ReplyDelete
  67. As a huge Lostie, Juliet's death broke my heart more than any other.

    ReplyDelete
  68. It was fast. But Willows wrath was worse than what came after any other death. I loved it

    ReplyDelete
  69. Agree on Drogo, Michael (Prison break), Alex (Roswell) including to my list for Buffy and TVD
LaGuerta? Seriously? I would have opened a bottle of champagne if I'd had one. I wasn't the only one. Everyone hated her.

    ReplyDelete
  70. ELENA'S DEATH, by far :'(

    ReplyDelete
  71. Opie on Sons of Anarchy

    ReplyDelete
  72. Sean Pierce - Nikita 3x18. Didn't expect this one at all, came as such a shock!!! Crying my eyes out!

    ReplyDelete
  73. I would vote for one of the Winchester brothers except, I knew they were coming back, but will vote for John Winchester, trading his life for Dean's was very sad. Big fan of JDMorgan.

Just a note, the Joyce death did not bother me, but I cried buckets with the reaction that came from Anya. That was heartbreaking.

The way Rose died was beautiful and I cried with Damon.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I forgot to put Jo and Ellen on my list, but will add them now. The way the boys stopped and looked back at the blast, Bobby burning the picture and I wanted Jo to stick around. She had such good chemistry with both Sam and Dean.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I started watching the show for Ian and so I was very sad when Boone was killed off.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Warrick Brown CSI totally unexpected and out of character for the show. Great acting and horrible scene.

    ReplyDelete
  77. disqus_aJNAYl7eIZ20 April 2013 at 20:59

Evan Marks on Beauty and the Beast! Heart breaking!

    ReplyDelete
  78. Chuckles the Clown on the Mary Tyler Moore show.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Where's Bobby Singer from Supernatural? Or Alaric from The Vampire Diaries?

    ReplyDelete
  80. Alex (Roswell, S02E17)

    ReplyDelete
  81. Evan Marks Beauty And The Beast
I guess he was an okay guy in the end. :)

    ReplyDelete
  82. Roslin's death was heartbreaking, one of the most powerful death scenes I've scene on TV.

    ReplyDelete
  83. But it did make for a funny episode.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Lexie & Mark
    Alaric

    ReplyDelete
  85. Evan Marks - BATB

    ReplyDelete
  86. Add to mine, Amy on The Walking Dead. It was one of the first and she was such a
    sweetheart.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Ned Stark (GoT) and Laura Roslin (BSG) broke my heart.

Special mention to Adriana La Cerva (The Sopranos) and Dale (The Walking Dead)

    ReplyDelete
  88. Evan Marks Beauty and the Beast Heart of Darkness

    ReplyDelete
  89. Lexie and Mark (Grey's Anatomy), Jenna (TVD), Marissa (The O.C.)

    ReplyDelete
  90. and cause it was unexpected !

    ReplyDelete
  91. Why am i not surprised Scott,ha! what a great episode that was!

    How ya doing?

    ReplyDelete
  92. I wasn't that upset by her death, but it sure shocked me! The way it happened and when it happened,in the last 30 seconds of the episode. It sure was powerful and shocking! Sasha seemed to enjoy doing the following episode,so it alleviated some of the sadness i felt...

    ReplyDelete
  93. Rogério Marques21 April 2013 at 00:42

    Lexie and Mark (Grey's Anatomy)

    ReplyDelete
  94. Lexie and Mark (Grey's anatomy) and Captain Montgomery (Castle)

    ReplyDelete
  95. Haley for me, because it just came as such a surprise, and the way it was done was beautiful. I will admit to not knowing many of the other names submitted to the poll. I'll also admit at being baffled at various missing names from shows.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Has no one mentioned one of the most intense, disturbing executions on TV? Adriana's death scene in The Sopranos still haunts me today. The part where Adriana starts to cry when she realizes she's sealed her fate is bad enough, but it keeps stepping up from there with Adriana begging for her life and Silvio being more ruthless than we've ever seen. Sheesh, I think I need a drink.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Agreed, didn't see it coming, (though it was foreshadowed when Joyce mentioned a little bit before that something about an aneurysm) it was a very powerful emotional death, just heartbreaking.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Edith Bunker from All In The Family. Long time ago.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Captain Montgomery's death on Castle. I was a new Castle fan at the time but my heart just broke for Beckett as Castle carried her out of the hangar then she ran back to Montgomery, sobbing the whole time. Watching the entire series from the beginning more recently actually makes it worse because of how close the two were.

Also, I know he was an extremely minor character but the death of Marshall's dad, Marvin, on How I Met Your Mother was also upsetting. Marshall's reaction (which apparently was ad libbing from Jason Segel) was perfect.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Bobby in SPN :'( I cried the first 20 times I saw the episode

    ReplyDelete
  101. Poor Adriana. Crawling away from Silvio. She trusted Christopher too much. That was a very intense scene.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I have fair days and bad days. Waiting for all the water to run off so I can go outside. How have you been? Feeling any better?

    ReplyDelete
  103. Evan Marks (Beauty and the Beast) & Sean Pierce (Nikita).

    ReplyDelete
  104. I made this poll before the episode was aired ;)

    ReplyDelete
  105. I made this poll before THAT episode was aired :/ That's why his name isnt here :)

    ReplyDelete
  106. SPIKE. I was bawling when he sacrificed himself at the end of Buffy. Love him <3

    ReplyDelete
  107. i can't decide either Anna or Jenna from vampire diaries.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Ned Stark?

    Haha kidding

    ReplyDelete
  109. Shane Vendrell - The Shield
    Elsworth - Deadwood
Mrs. Fredrick - end of last season Warehouse 13 (she came back)
Buffy Summers - Buffy the Vampire Slayer
    Bobby Singer - Supernatural

Those are some of the first to come to mind.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Jenna, Alaric, Jeremy - TVD
    Etta - Fringe
    Green - ER

    Captain Montgomery - Castle
There's a probability that I forgot about dozens of other deaths but these ones were the most significant for me.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Let's not forget about tragic death of our dear Matthew.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Lexie Grey (Grey's Anatomy, S08E24)

    ReplyDelete
  113. Opie from Sons of Anarchy, hands down

    ReplyDelete
  114. Evan Marks from Beauty and the Beast. It's been 3 days since the episode aired and I still tear up everytime I think of him.

    ReplyDelete
  115. My choice is Supernatural John Winchester 2x1 My Time Of Dying

    ReplyDelete
  116. Difficult. I can't choose one, instead I'll go for a list:

(From the poll), Haley (Criminal Minds)
    Ryan Chappelle (24, S03 E16)
    Lynn McGill (24, S05 E13)
    Tony Almeida (24, S05 E13)
    Bill Buchanan (24, S07 E13)
    Renee Walker (24 S08 E17)
    Owen Harper (Torchwood, S02 E13)
    Toshiko Sato (Torchwood, S02 E13)
    Ianto Jones (Torchwood, S03 E04)
    Vera Juarez (Torchwood, S04 E05)
    Esther Drummond (Torchwood, S04 E10)
    Sean Pierce (Nikita, S03 E18)
    Maggie Foster (Revolution, S01 E04)

    I think that's it.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Oh, my god, I voted for Charlie, Lost, but Opie will be remembered forever. It was the most touching death for sure. Opie is still missed.

    ReplyDelete
  118. It was very sad indeed. Gale was such a great character and fit perfect on the show. A shame he did not stay longer.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Agreed. Opie is still missed.

    ReplyDelete
  120. InvestedInYourFuture21 April 2013 at 12:13

It was foreshadowed a whole season before - it was Buffy who said that "she can't wait till her mother gets an aneurysm after seeing the bill for the college books".

its the same type of cruel humor foreshadowing as Cordelia's "One day you'll wake up in a coma".

    ReplyDelete
  121. Like you i have good days and bad. All i can say is when the heck is it going to get warm? Three days ago it was 76 this morning its 30 with a high of 54,i am so tired of this cold weather!

    ReplyDelete
  122. Rita #Dexter ;) Forever and ever the saddest / most surprising death for me.

    ReplyDelete
  123. I vote for Juliet Burke! It was so intense and my heart is broken every time i rewatch these scene! Elizabeth Mitchell is so incredible and talented! I really love her!

But i have to say a word for Army Wives too. Jeremy Sherwood's death was so so sad too!
Alex ( Roswell) Mark Sloan, Lucy and Mark ( E.R ) And Fox Mulder!

    ReplyDelete
  124. I voted for Sam because I am a huge Supernatural fan, but really I would have to say Teri Bauer from 24. It was totally unexpected and made me cry my eyes out.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Lexie Grey & Mark Sloan for sure! I don't watch Grey's Anatomy anymoure because of that.

    ReplyDelete
  126. diana from V 2011

    ReplyDelete
  127. I came here to say this.

Now I have no contribution. Except... purple apples. They're just like apples, only purple.

    Think about it. We'll talk.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Other - Joyce Summers. After all this time...it still resonates with me. From this list Eddard Stark was more shocking than it was sad, but it made an impression

    ReplyDelete
  129. My wife would argue Boone - as early in the show as it was - she never got over Boone.

    ReplyDelete
  130. It was terrible... Tell your wife i understand, completely. :(

    ReplyDelete
  131. poptart_of_doom23 April 2013 at 21:45

omg i never really get emotional about tv deaths but that episode of buffy messed me up. like it was way too real and all the characters reactions were spot on and i ugly cry every damn time :|

    ReplyDelete
  132. Upset over the death of Lori Grimes?! huh?!! who was not happy about that?

    ReplyDelete
  133. Out of this lot definitely Charlie(Lost) Very close 2nd Juliet(Lost), but Edgar from my favourite season of 24 season 5

    ReplyDelete
  134. I know, right? I cheered when she died! I was sad for Rick though. Andrew Lincoln did a great job w/his grief!

    ReplyDelete
  135. The death of spartacus in the Tv show spartacus

    ReplyDelete
  136. Edith in Archie Bunker's Place. Even though you never saw her go, Archie's bereavement was something I never forgot.

    ReplyDelete
  137. It's sorta not fair to add Sam or Dean on a list like this, I mean sure they die quite a bit but they will inevitably come back to life and that kinda gives them an advantage in this poll. It's like cheating almost, everyone else only gets one death oh but not Dean and Sam they get multiple deaths. so I'm calling it; cheating! :)

    ReplyDelete
  138. Etta and Nina Sharp from fringe

    ReplyDelete
  139. Prue from Charmed. OMG just heart breaking

    ReplyDelete
  140. Arthur Pendragon DIES?!!!!!! i was mad that merlin was cancelled, so i didnt watch the series finale.. i made a huge mistake, now i dont wanna watch it ever

    ReplyDelete
  141. I disowned Lost after Juliet's death. They never should have put her and Sawyer together (no chemistry whatsoever), and then selling Juliet's death "as one of the most pivotable moments of Lost ever" made me want to cast the show into the fires of Mount Doom. Never seen season 6 and never will. Lindelof and Cuse are the most self-involved people on the planet.

    ReplyDelete
  142. I tried watching one rerun and was bawling. Now, if its on, I change the channel.

    ReplyDelete
  143. wow... from this list, it'd be tough to pick from the Lost deaths as they were all devastating when they occurred... but to be honest, off this list - the one death I can recall that totally floored me when it happened, because I had no idea that it was coming/possibly coming and was initially designed to be a series finale was the death of Buffy in "The Gift" the S5 finale - from the slow motion of her talking to Dawn (with the fantastic voiceover and amazingly sad music in the background) as she sacrificed herself to close the portal and yet again saved the world, to her friends/family finding her broken body - Spike having a breakdown, to the slow pan reveal of a headstone..... man I'm having chills thinking about that now... that was just a fantastic episode
