An interesting poll - I'm surprised. ;) I voted for score with visuals. I don't mind if the intro takes 60 or even 90 seconds as long as it's well made. :)
Whew, good question. Depends on the show, I guess. Person Of Interest is one of my favourites, but not because of the narration per se. It just looks great visually, and it gives you a good idea of what the show is about. It's also filled with fun easter eggs, and the music suits the show. But... I do love short and powerful title sequences that just take you directly into the show, like the ones for LOST, Once Upon A Time and Bates Motel. The ones for Game Of Thrones and Dexter are very creative, but I do skip those sometimes when I just want to get on with watching the show. :p
And as a bonus... The University of Wisconsin-Madison Clock Tower playing the Game of Thrones theme song!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVqnFRN9Z4k&feature=player_embedded
i miss the days when shows had theme songs (buffy, smallville, roswell, friends) now most shows are so lazy they just have the title on the screen for 5 seconds and thats it.
Short and sweet is my preference. Only exceptions would be Firefly, True Blood and the Sopranos. I like, and always watch those but other long ones, however good they are, can get a bit irritating. I find the Dexter one particularly bad and always fast forward it as it goes on for several minutes.
My favorite is True Blood. The series is worth watching just for that (now that the show it self is going down hill) and on GoT and Justified has to share a close second place.
Really interesting and tough question. I really had to think about this one. I guess I ended up just comparing my shows. I went with short with title. I think it is the best. You just want to get into your show. But I love singing the fringe theme (its still my ringtone) And I also love a good theme song, generally with the cast (psych, friends)
I skip a lot of the title sequences after the first few episodes or so, but I have to say, I never skip the Elementary sequence, it's just so interesting!!
Yep, I miss them sometimes and others I understand that the repeation becomes boring after a while, specially if you are watching multiple episodes back to back. Still I think all shows should have a longer more traditional oc and air it every once in a while somehow like Desperate Housewives did it for a while and maybe even Grey's...
Good poll! Easy choice for me: theme song with visuals. My all time favorite is the opening of The Sopranos, with Tony driving through all his haunts and then pulling into his driveway, all the time the spooky deep bass of Alabama 3 singing, "Woke up this morning..." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDDkCiUhHCc
It would be a sort of mix to me. Short but not too short with visuals. Like 30-40 sec version, that helps you to get in the mood. Some short title works for some shows and for some shows it doesn't. I like the Supernatural one but not the Revenge one *while I do watch the show*. My favorite title sequence is Charmed.
I have to agree But there is one category over looked that is no intro but title over the actual show. One show in particular went that route was Castle.
If the style fits the show then I'm happy. I can (probably) tell you specifically which of what type I like the most (or at least more) but to pick a favourite type overall is hard for me.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Score with visuals is the best, IMO, like Dexter, AHS, Oz, etc. But the Supernatural type is also cool.

ReplyDeleteGreat poll. I love theme songs with cast...Buffy,Angel,Charmed, etc.
ReplyDeleteNo matter how much I love Fringe intro, GoT's the best, so I voted for the one that's like GoT :)

Score with visuals or theme song with visuals are definitely my favorites.

ReplyDeleteTheme Song with cast, hands down. I find the fact that they moved away from epic 1 minute opening sequences sad :[
ReplyDeleteStuff like Dollhouse, Firefly, BTVS, ATS opening sequences are something that is still staying strong in my mind.
Like the short LOST-like ones because the less time they use for an intro the longer the actual episodes are
ReplyDeletenice.. I like either score/theme song with Cast <333333333

ReplyDeleteHave to go with Fringe, then GoT and even Elementary is good.
ReplyDeleteThey are all great and the U of Wisconsin is rocking the GoT theme!

ReplyDeleteGotta go with the short one. Just the title, maybe a couple of catchy notes. Something simple.
ReplyDeleteI usually like it short and sweet in less it's made really well.
ReplyDeleteUsually i prefer short title sequences like Lost and Supernatural but sequences like the ones in The Wire and GoT are much better...

ReplyDeleteMy favorites open scenes this season are:
ReplyDelete1 - Person of Interest
2 - TBBT
3 - Game of Thrones
4 - Fringe
5 - Revolution
I think the score with graphics is much more interesting to the eye GoT is good example how that works.

ReplyDeleteI love the short with title, and also the score with graphics. My fav. Intros are from Game of Thrones, House, Lost, Supernatural and Breaking Bad.
ReplyDeleteTheme song with cast
ReplyDeleteYay for Fringe, I have to say I love the music for touch alson
ReplyDeleteit's cause they want to use as much airtime as possible nowadays 42 minutes is not enough it has to be 42 minutes and 55 seconds
