    I voted for: No, I don't base what shows I watch based offviewership but if the storyline is good
    But in many cases i watch that kind of series until they get canceled and then either i stop watching it and never finish the season or i stop watching it until the full season is release and watch it all at the same time.

    Generally no. But if a show is heading towards cancellation it makes me reluctant to start watching it as I don't want to get into it only to have it finish.

    I would like to vote 'sometimes'. It all depends on the premise of the show, some I will watch regardless but others I wait and see how they are doing before I start to watch. Been burned too many times by premature cancellations of great shows to always take the risk, but sometimes it's still worth it.

    I can see this from both sides of the argument: On one hand, assuming the show isn't allowed to even finish (some shows are you know) and is canceled in a cliffhanger, it would bother me, but it's entertainment and that's all it's ever meant to be. We are never, ever, ever promised 10 seasons of a series. Quite frankly, I worship every new episode I get of a TV series I love every week - exactly for the reason that I know it will come to an end, but I love it as long as it gets to make fresh material. And looking back, a few of my all-time favorite series actually did get quite bumpy starts to their broadcasting - but wound up major hits. So yeah, ratings is never just a happy walk on the beach, but it doesn't affect what I watch.

    I usually give a struggling show a wide berth for the first season. If it gets a second season then I marathon the first season of the show to get caught up. If a show gets canceled and I didn't watch it, I will at some point as long as it doesn't end on a cliffhanger.


    If it does end on a cliffhanger, I'll wiki it so I can read the story portion of it without feeling like I wasted my time.

    I get to a point where I don't care to actively seek out a show anymore but will tape/DVR it just in case I'm bored with nothing else to do. Sometimes I drop those shows, sometimes I will eventually watch it and it sparks me watching more. With those shows with low ratings it sometimes makes me decide to dump it. But it HAS to be only if I am bored with the show.


    It's only one factor though. e.g. Used to watch NCIS and Big Bang every week and now I don't watch it at all, and obviously that isn't a ratings issue.

    e.g. Loved Secret Circle and watched it to the end. Got bored with Red Widow and soon after it was cancelled. I'm nearly at the stage of giving up on Nikita.

    If I like a show I watch and just hope the PTB give it enough time for a real ending. I am more leery of watching on Fox, they do have a record of not ending a show correctly for the fans.

    x2. Whenever a new show starts I always wait a few episodes before watching. I got burned a few times including with zero hour and I dont want to be disappointed again.

    Yes, ratings can impact my decisions on whether to keep watching a show or not. I will check a show if it has good enough ratings and if I'm so-so on a certain show and its ratings suck too, it'll make it easier for me to ditch it. If I love a show though I'll stick with it to the end regardless of the ratings unless it becomes unwatchable (i.e. Heroes that I loved its first season but didn't connect to any of the episodes I watched in its third season.)

    I use to not care but I watch so many shows now that I don't want to start getting emotionally invested in a show that I know is just gonna get cancel in the end. Like I was enjoying the first couple episodes of Golden Boy but decided to stop watching seeing how the ratings were going down each episode and it's the same thing for a show Monday Mornings I liked the first 2 episodes but after how low the ratings are for it I just deleted all the episodes I had on the DVR and deleted off the series priority list.

    Well,they must have broken the mold when they gave Fringe a 5th season so they could finish telling their story.Considering Fringe would have been cancelled by the end of the 3rd season due to ratings on any other network, i think Fox realized its not always in their best interest to Just care about ratings,its about the quality of the show and the fans. Fox now has some loyal fans due to what they did.

    No,if i like the show i'll watch it regardless.Do i get frustrated when a show gets cancelled before its given a chance to find its audience sure, but low ratings do not keep me from watching as long as the storyline is good.

    You know, up until now I thought I didn't care at all about ratings... but once I've tasted the poisoned apple of reading so much about ratings and which shows are heading for cancellation, there's no going back. I started watching Cult, stopped after 2 episodes, and the knowledge that its ratings are really low and it's definitely going to be cancelled has been another reason I didn't come back. It's just going to end on a cliffhanger and leave the viewers disappointed.
    That being said, low ratings definitely aren't indicate of low quality. Well, they *sometimes* are (for example, FlashForward had an intriguing concept but dragged out its mysteries for too long and was boring and far-fetched, which I believe is the main reason it tanked in the ratings), but shows often fail simply because the networks don't make the best decisions in terms of promotion and scheduling.

    A great deal of the shows that I watch are low-rated (or, better, to me, they are underrated), so, my answer is no, I watch what I like and not what gets more attention, or more viewers.

    It really does depend, normally ratings would put me off but in the case of some shows like most recently The Mob Doctor, I loved it to the end. It would probably depend how much I loved the pilot before seeing ratings. If not I will look at the fandom to give me an idea, there is nothing worse than a show with low ratings and no vocal fan support.

    No, I watch the shows I find interesting, with storys and characters I like. BUT if it is a new show that I didn´t have time to check out and the ratings are low, I don´t start watching.

    No.Most of the shows I watch are considered low rated but some last for a while,some dont.I still enjoy the show whether its on for a season or two or five to six .Im still always glad I watched it even if it lasts only one season and ends on a cliffhanger.I agree with Murder Monday that if low ratings stopped me from watching a show, I wouldve missed out on some good/great shows.I wouldve barley watched any tv the last few years.lol.I just enjoy the shows I watch and like while theyre on.If I can ill buy the dvds.

    Ratings have never affected whether or not I watch a show. If I think it looks good and will be something I'll enjoy I'll watch it. Regardless of what the ratings are. Besides ratings aren't exactly all that accurate.

    Supernatural is up against some very strong shows, but much of our viewership does not have those little boxes. Pedowitz says he does not judge by ratings. He knows there are many others ways. He goes by the number of fans at the cons, and contact they have with us. I don't even look at the ratings. The show was renewed earlier than usual. That's a good sign.

    Nope. If low ratings was the reason I stopped watching a show, I'd be missing out on the awesomeness that is Parenthood. I'm a loyalist to my shows so even if the quality of the show goes down and I eventually decide that a cancellation wouldn't matter to me (which is how I somewhat feel about The Office and Glee right now), I still watch the show to the very end. However, there are some shows that would cause me to curse the network they were on should they be cancelled because of the low ratings.

    Ratings are important even for the CW, no matter what Pedowitz might say. SPN was renewed because it's the third highest-rated show on the network,.
    Contrary to popular belief, SPN hasn't been in danger of cancellation in 6 years.

    Enjoying a fantastic show that is canceled after 4 episodes is much more worthwhile than watching a mediocre show that goes for five seasons.

    Yes, and no.
    I will stop watching (or not start watching) a low-rated series as it airs and then watch it on DVD once the show is cancelled if I find it interesting or heard good things from people who know my tastes.


    Once the series has ended I can watch it going in knowing that it may or may not have a satisfactory finale, or may end in a cliffhanger etc...

    If I like the storyline or the actors I'll give it a shot regardless of ratings. But I tend to stay away from NBC shows because they have a tendency to cancel a lot of stuff and I get way too emotional when that happens...

    I'm the kind of person that feels like I have to keep watching the show even if it got cancelled. The only shows I didn't bother to keep watching were Terra Nova and Once Upon A Time. But I actually sat through two hours of Do No Harm (even though I didn't like it) after they announced the cancellation. Unless it's something that I personally despise I feel like I have to finish it for some reason and I don't know why

    I cant answer this poll. I do watch low rated shows, some of them, some I dont because I like to know what happens to them. This season I watched all of that Submarine show, and I was very happy to see how they ended everything at the end of the season! I think all of the shows should have an ending taped , just in case! But hey it would only make me happy!!! So my poll answer is yes and no. It is not what others think but what I do!! Like My favorite man Christian Slater, unfortunately I wont watch another show of his unless season 1 is already done and the network picks up a season 2, I got burnt 3 times that way, and 2 of the shows were excellent and they tried to make a show almost like one of them, is wrong to hope that one fails because Christians didnt work????

    I also usually dont even know if a show has low ratings, I dont bother to look, so imagine my shock when i came across a site that had some of my favorite shows listed as iffy, or not returning! The one I mentioned below is the only one I knew from the beginning would not grab the ratings, but I waited and watched 4 episodes on my on demand, and then was hooked!! So i guess I'd rather stay blind to the ratings and hope my shows stay on:)

    Just because a show gets picked up for a season 2 or even 3 does not mean you will get an ending..look at what happened to Veronica Mars, 3 seasons and a hanging ending. So looking forward to the movie in 2014.

    I know Once Upon A Time didn't get cancelled, I phrased the sentences wrong. But in my opinion I really disliked OUAT and stopped watching at the 12th episode, which was the point I was trying to make

    I generally am reluctant to watch lower rated shows because I don't like getting attached and then being left with huge cliffhangers. It's like having the carpet ripped from under me.

    I love Beauty and the Beast! And I absolutely don't care what its ratings are! Because I'm sure that "Ratings" is such a relative concept, not showing sometimes the real popularity of a show!

    It's not about the quantity but the QUALITY! For example Beauty and the Beast is hugely underrated show having average ratings but exceptionaly great methodology storyline and concept. People should be brave enough to give it a try and they will be pleasantly surpised. Plus Nielsen ratings haven't been mirroring viewership for a looooong time now.
