The Selection author Kiera Cass recently tweeted
an article by The Examiner claiming the redone pilot has been given a heavy injection of Game of Thrones with alot of sex and raunchiness (The CW even hired a GOT veteran director and crew). Cass commented that it is everything the article stated and more and an R rating would be too generous for the show.
Is the CW pushing the envelope too far for network TV?
Now I want to see it hahah!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I just became interested in watching this...
ReplyDeleteLame PR... who's going to believe this crap.
ReplyDeleteWell, it starts with a sodomy (on the page...). And there's a sexy naked pool party too. Si yeah, that's true actually.
ReplyDeleteIf only...
ReplyDeleteMore likely it is just less "Disney-fied" than it was before. I have serious doubts that any network series would go "Hard R", much less the CW.
Regardless, sex and violence are not what makes Game of Thrones one of the best shows on TV, the amazing production values, quality writing and top-notch acting are what make it so great.. Going by The CW's track record they will not have at least 2 of the 3 traits listed.
They are not having much luck with their series, so now they are trying a new approach it seems. Only more sex isn´t gonna make their series better, they need better writers.
ReplyDeleteThat being said. It doesn´t bother me. I don´t find nude scenes a bad thing, at least not if it fits in the story.
Interesting. I figured the show would be way too teenage/family friendly adn that is what put me off. If it is going to be a more adult show then maybe I will check it out. Still do not have high expectations for me liking it though.
ReplyDeleteI am very interested in the pilot but I gotta say, I find this very surprising. Can the cw even do this and get away with it? Anyway, I think most of it is simply PR, but I am still very much in, I want the show picked up. Also I am looking forward a looot to The Hundred, I will be so sad if it doesn't picked up. Sleepy Hollow sounds very meh, Delirium I would give it a try, The Tomorrow People I am most likely in and will certainly get a try, and Gothica also warrants a try even though I think I will be more excited with the trailer. I am also hoping that Super Clyde gets picked up, I think it would be a very good show if done properly and I like Rupert Grinn very much. If half of these get picked up (plus Big Thunder), it would be a good year for genre. My favorite is still the hundred.
ReplyDeleteThose pilots do interest me but it's too early now. I'm interested to see the reviews on the finished products and then I'll watch those that have good enough reviews and get good enough ratings at the beginning.
ReplyDeleteThat's always been my assessment about the CW as well! I'm also interested in The Hundred and Sleepy Hallow, but have been on the fence about Delirium.
ReplyDeleteI agree it's not Rated R+ or even sometimes the subject matter that makes a TV series or a Movie good, it's often the stories, characters, execution, and production values that make something good or interesting.
I am wondering though if The Selection does get picked up, will it continue to shoot in Europe or move production somewhere in the US?
ReplyDeleteI would watch Super Clyde just for Stephen Fry.
ReplyDeleteDelirium just sounds like the obama white house, not interested. ;)
The Selection, Tony Head, so would try it.
It will say in europe either london or budapest or both
ReplyDeleteThats exactly what the CW needs! It needs more adult shows, look at Buffy, Angel etc, they were so sexy and that was part of their charm! The Selection needs to be picked up!
ReplyDeleteI would be pretty surprised if it was too bad. Maybe to the level of The Americans? I mean with that one there's normally like at least 1 sex scene each episode and they're kind of on the edge between HBO/Showtime and cable/network. I can't really think of a network show that has gone too, too far. Anybody?
ReplyDeleteI agree with the basic sentiment in the comment above that this is all PR bullsh*t. I have a hard time believing that this is anything more than a transparent attempt to drum up more buzz for this pilot. Like you, I highly doubt CW will be pushing the envelope with anything resembling a "hard R." We are, after all, talking about a network that doesn't allow even the slightest whiff of salty language on their broadcasts.
ReplyDeleteUgh! I get less interested in the Selection every time I read about it.
ReplyDeleteCW and Game of Thrones in the same sentence? I don't know if I should laugh or barf. LOL!
ReplyDeleteThe CW is a million miles away of coming anywhere near the quality of an HBO drama. That comparison is preposterous and hilarious at the same time. They just won't go adult, let alone HBO adult. I bet the raunchy they're talking about is something like the GG threesome. This is the network who was scared of a lesbian romance (Faye and Diana from The Secret Circle, confirmed by the EP), give me a break.
I agree. This is PR bull and a lame attempt to create buzz. Classis pathetic CW move LOL.
ReplyDeleteAgreed!
ReplyDeleteLOL, like anyone is going to believe this PR bull. xD
ReplyDeleteThis makes the show sound more interesting. And by going "R" I think they just mean, that this show will be more in the vein of "Arrow" or even "Cult" which tonally, are the most mature shows they have. And they probably mean making it darker and more unpredictable with deaths and things which is only a good thing.
ReplyDeleteThis could be utter crap or not.
ReplyDeleteDelirium = Equilibrium without the fights.
ReplyDeleteThey're going to ruin the book. Crap.
ReplyDeleteThis might actually be true. So far we've heard the pilot starts with Maxon taking a girl from behind and also has a strip pool party. And now we also know there's a lesbian couple.
ReplyDeleteSo it sounds like the pilot alone will have more sex than a whole season of GG or the other CW shows.
I don't see this getting a series order, unfortunly, especially if this is true
