"Clip Show"

FAMILIAR FACES RETURN AS THE THIRD TRIAL NEARS - Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) reunite with Castiel (Misha Collins). Digging through the Men of Letters' files, they stumble upon an undiscovered film which could be the key to the third trial. Metatron (guest star Curtis Armstrong) enlists Cass to mull over problems at home. Meanwhile, Crowley (guest star Mark Sheppard) digs into Sam and Dean's past. Taylor Cole, Graham Wardle, and Cindy Busby also guest star. Thomas J. Wright directed the episode written by Andrew Dabb (#822).

  1. Oh, Crowley, you better not go after Sarah!

Hopefully it's not actually a clip show. Excited for this one!

  2. i mean wouldnt it stand in the press release that it is a real clip show if it was ?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Sarah is back and Tommy Collins from Wendigo and Jenny Klein from Shut Up Dr Phil I thought maybe actor who played Lucas would be there since he took pic with Jensen. Wonder why Crowley needs to look at the boys past. And nice to see Cass will get to see the MOL place.

  4. Oh yeeees! SOUNDS AMAZING!! Castiel<3

    ReplyDelete
  5. but what do you have against clip shows anyway, if they ever make a real clip show it would be fun too see how they make a clip show, atleast 1 episode in s9

  6. ooops

  7. Yikes! That is reaching way back. Wardle played Tommy in Wendigo. This is a weird assortment though. Are they trying to show how life has changed for people who learned about the supernatural through some connection with the Winchesters? That's Sarah from Provenance, Tommy from Wendigo, and the assistant from Shut Up Dr. Phil who kept saying, "Hearts in my cupcakes." If we hadn't already confirmed that Taylor Cole is indeed playing Sarah, I would think they were just recycling actors like they have been doing all year. Have to say that if they are going to show us how season 1 characters have fared since their trip to the supernatural, my choices would have been Michael from Something Wicked, Sarah (of course), and the Barrs from Dead in the Water. I've always wondered what happened to them.

I really thought Sarah wasn't going to be real. But if Crowley is digging their past...

I just hope they won't turn her bad or use her against Sam. (Sorry, I'm scared they'll ruin her character. She's loved for a lot of fans)

    ReplyDelete
  9. Maybe Crowley is using them as bait while Cas and Metatron are out antiquing.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Because clip shows are just random clips put together from episodes we've already seen. I want new stuff!

    ReplyDelete
  11. They're really packing these last few episodes full of action. Glad that Cas is with the Winchesters again. :) The bit about Metatron is super-vague. And I think we should prepare ourselves for Crowley killing Sarah...

    ReplyDelete
  12. I saw that. Probably just means Sarah and maybe other random assorted people from their past.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Is Crowley interested in the darling vanity the angels are gonna find?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Oh how PBS of them. Hope they find something good in grandma's old trunk in the attic. Perhaps they can bid on it and get some Storage Wars going.

    ReplyDelete
  15. And here I thought Crowley preferred antique medical instruments and vinyl from the 60's and 70's. Perhaps he can find the hideous angel ornament Mary picked up if he's hunting Winchester artifacts.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I would hope that the Factory of Answers would stay their private oasis from the supernatural but since they already brought a demigod and family in there I guess they aren't concerned with making it their secret Batcave. That will come back to bite them.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Having Sarah return was my pie in the sky hope (along with the amulet) for a long time so I am very nervous about what they are going to do to her. May she not end up a monster. Or dead.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Miss Supernatural18 April 2013 at 03:19

Same here. I'm very nervous, too, especially because I don't trust the writers and show runners.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Amen. But this is Andrew Dabb so it is more likely that he will screw up Dean and Sam's characterizations until they are unrecognizable and leave the secondary characters as the actual heroes.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Miss Supernatural18 April 2013 at 03:24

I was going to say that I don't know which option was worst, but I actually do: They screwing up Sam and Dean characterizations.

    ReplyDelete
  21. And Carver said bringing the old characters back "wouldn't be for the better" or something like that...
I predict Dabb will have Crowly killing a bunch of early characters to threaten the Winchesters - a whole bunch of unnecessary deaths for useless fake drama - much like what they did to Rufus. Then our memories of those great early episodes can be ruined by these crappy new writers. Yippee!
They'll kill off Sarah Blake so every time we watch Provenance we'll remember her useless death - showing how the Winchesters can never get a win where the lives of those they saved are better for having met them... no the world cannot be allowed to be BETTER because of the Winchesters.

God, I've been damaged by that last assault on canon in Taxi Driver. I hate that they are doing anything with the early seasons. Just go away and leave the early years alone from your crappy writing. It's gotten to the point I dread the rest of the season. How did that happen, when I started out so happy with it?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Miss Supernatural18 April 2013 at 03:27

I'll second that. You put all my fears in a way I wouldn't be able to. So, thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  23. If Crowley is going to kill them, he is sure getting dumb as the season progresses. What's he going to say? "Hey remember that guy you saved from the cannibal when your dad was still hiding from you? Well ha! I'm going to kill him to spite you." Dean and Sam in tandem (because I love that): "Who?"

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm thinking how Crowley killed Kevin's girlfriend in 8-1. He used to kill only if he gained by it, but that was a revenge killing with no purpose but to shock. Then cutting bits off Kevin & killing Meg when there was still more to gain. So I expect exactly that kind of ruthless, useless shock killing from Dabb, of all people.

Have you noticed how they changed Crowley? To make him the Big Bad, they eviscerated his charm, intelligence and humor. He's not even Crowley anymore. And the great tandem is for those sacred early years - these S8 guys are potato-potatoh.

    ReplyDelete
  25. For me it's killing Crowley's snark that is the ultimate betrayal for the character. I am glad they are making him evil again. He needed that to be taken seriously, but even villains can use a good snarky attitude. Mark Sheppard still makes every scene for me but even he is falling a little flat these days. Never thought that could happen.

The big comparison to me is that Sarah from season 1 was a one-shot character that really stood out for the fandom. There were several others from season 1 who did so too. How many one-shot characters are we going to remember from season 8? The standalones have all been so bland or downright awful that I have to really concentrate to even remember what they were about.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Yes I agree about Mark Sheppard! The snark was everything. It's what gave him the mystery. With it gone, he isn't as intriguing.
It bothers me that these writers are more about getting their own original characters Garth, Charlie, Krissy, in our faces, so they get paid more every time these shows air in the futures, bunch of Mary Sues. I won't remember any one shots from the past 3 years. Maybe the demon lover from Repo Man because he killed his dog.
I am just afraid of these writers touching anything from the past now.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ha! I actually looked up Shut Up, Dr. Phil to see if Dabb wrote it. (He didn't.) There is a definite pattern of writers bringing back their own characters for absolutely no purpose. They are all playing in their own sandboxes never seeing the entire playground is going to hell from neglect.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Ty !! :D (Graham Wardle's character on Heartland [Canadian Series])

That is a weird assortment of characters.

I wonder how Crowley digs into their past? Does he find a way to time jump or something? How would he know when and where to look and why choose those characters? What is he up to?

    Very odd.

I really hope Crowley isn't just going around slaughtering random people they saved in the past. :I

    ReplyDelete
  29. Apparently Cindy Busby was on Heartland too. Reunion.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'd forgive them for it if they wrote Sam & Dean as the heroes, instead of Sam tied up and Dean standing there with his mouth open.

    ReplyDelete
  31. The tittle is terrible, but the plot is awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yes, she did, as Ashley! She disappeared on Heartland a couple years ago and I was :( cause her character was married and now that story is screwed up.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I miss Ashley :(

;) Are you afraid to tell me what you think of the finale? It was so evil. Do you think the character is gonna be ok?

    ReplyDelete
  34. I hope so. Amy and Ty need to get married like now, and a death would delay that. Plus I like his character.

I miss Ashley too, I think mostly because she and Caleb should have never had that divorce. Caleb hasn't had any good story since. I'd have rather had both characters go off the show so long as they were together.

    ReplyDelete
  35. 100% agree on the Caleb/Ashley thing. I have a feeling they don't know what to do with Caleb anymore....like kissing a married woman, really? Especially on what's suppose to be a ''family show''. I just wish either Ashley comes back or Caleb return see her to win her heart again

Evil cliffhanger X_X he can't die, he's the center of the show and the family....

    ReplyDelete
  36. I agree he is at the center, and he and Lisa need to patch things up, imo.

Mmm yeah, I really want Heartland writers to fix their mistake with Caleb/Ashley too.

    ReplyDelete
  37. this sounds a lot like season 4 episode 2, one of the 66 seals "rise of the witness", people in their past come back to haunt them, but Meg Masters and Hendrickson sure is way more memorable than Sarah Blake and two other characters that I don't even remember their name.

so Crowley is gonna order demon to posses these people? defend hell against the third trial?emotionally torment Sam and Dean? I just couldn't figure out the connection between these three. The bright side is it may turn out to be a big surprise, which I sincerely hope.
I get a little confused about that character from wendigo, cause we already had another actor from that episode playing a different character in season eight (Samandriel), now bring back another actor from that episode but plays the same character just makes it kinda weird to me.

    ReplyDelete
  38. So psyched Sarah;s back. Crowley I love you dude but you hurt her and I'll CUT YOU!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I could see your point with Prometheus and family--that was more than a tad risky for them to do--but Cas? Really? Dude's as far from random supernatural being as you can get and hardly the sort of person they'd be needing--much less *wanting*--to hide away from.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Except from their point of view Cas has some shady ties with Naomi and they don't really know what is going on with him still. He broke from her control for a little bit but they don't know if she has controlled him again. I think that it is equally risky to share their new home base with Cas until they are 100% sure he is acting on his own volition. After all, he has the most power of anyone they would share with so if he has another agenda, it could very much come back to haunt them. They are not privy to all the info we as viewers have.

    ReplyDelete
  41. They were warding against Cas earlier this season (in Rufus' cabin) but I think Dean's become too worried for Cas since then to keep him out.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I never thought he was all that charming, to be honest, but I think he worked better in a supporting capacity, not as the big villain.

I don't think there was anything more for Crowley to gain from Meg. The angel tablet was gone. That's the only reason he'd kept her around.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Some people seemed to like Kate from "Bitten". Some liked Ellie (she didn't do much for me, but if they don't bring her back as a love interest, I wouldn't mind seeing her again). I liked Aaron and the golem and I'd be happy to see them more often. I liked Gilda, although maybe not enough to see her again. I think I would have liked Portia if she hadn't had sex with her owner (ugh I hate typing this at all).

    ReplyDelete
  44. You wouldn't say that Dean and Sam were the heroes in "Trial & Error"? I thought they were.

I don't remember as much about "Hunter Heroici" but I thought the characterization for Sam and Dean in that was decent enough, and they weren't sidelined.

    ReplyDelete
  45. And we, as viewers, are not privy to all the info *they* would have at this point, considering this is episode 22, and we have yet to see the events of 20 and 21 unfold. It's very likely, given the appearance of Metatron in 21, that they would manage to learn more about Naomi and the angel tablet in that time. Enough that they'd feel safe sheltering Cas in the bunker, at least. It's also just as likely that Cas could've been severely injured at some point between "Goodbye Stranger" and "Clip Show" and needed time to recuperate, wherein the Winchesters would see him as less of a threat, physically, and/or be too worried about his well-being, as their friend, to care about the secrecy of it all.

But, even if they don't learn anything new at all, and Cas turns out to be in tip-top shape, we've already seen more than enough evidence to suggest that they'd say "to hell with it" and invite him in anyway out of simple friendship. Dean, especially, has been wearing the Friend Goggles for many episodes now, even before finding out about Naomi, in spite of his own keen observations of Cas being off from the start. They've not bothered warding against him this whole time, aside from their conversation in 8x10, and Dean's been openly praying to him since at least 8x13, hoping for a response. It was a lot riskier to give Cas the open invite then, so it's not surprising they'd extend it later on, in arguably safer conditions.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Why doesn't Crowley just go after Amelia then? He could easily snap her neck like he did Kevin's girlfriend.

I hope Sarah survives. I really like her.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Oh thanks, Dahne. Now my brain just went to the Storage Wars crew on Rover Street lifting the door on John's storage locker and the bidding war that ensues. I hate reality tv. :/

    ReplyDelete
  48. Ooooo! Slightly charred angel. My favorite kind. :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. I dont remwmber any unless you give me an episodw reference. Unlike Sarah who i remember by name alone.

I agree completely about Crowley. I loved him because of the snark. It made his evilness someqhat charming and disarming at the same time. I want to love to hate him, not just hate him.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I share the same fears you do. I don't trust them not to bring back characters that survived in the past and that are loved by the fans just to kill them off. I have no desire to see the magic of the first seasons tainted by writers who only seem to be writing for a paycheck and don't care about the show the way the fans do. Taxi Driver showed me how far they'll go when it comes to ruining already established mythology on this show. I would love to see Sarah again, but if they plan on doing anything bad to her or having us believe we might have a chance in seeing Sam with her only to have him go back to boring Amelia, I wish they would just leave her in the past and let us keep our good memories.

    ReplyDelete
  51. pinkphoenix198518 April 2013 at 17:35

Dahne-- I'm the same and boy I'm just hoping that Sarah survives this episode-- she is my favorite female in the show by far.

    ReplyDelete
  52. The show has rewritten so much mythology over the years, I can't bring myself to be upset. I just hope they stop with all the melodrama and misery for the sake of misery. I don't want to see that with Sarah.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Ha! The winner of that Storage Wars would get a whole lot more than they bargained for. I'd give them 36 hours to live after owning the contents. Of course, the FBI probably wouldn't even allow it to be sold given the ammunition in it.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Dean and Sam were the heroes in Trial and Error. Mike and Cas saved the day in Hunteri Heroici.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Besides Michael from Something Wicked, Sarah is the PiP I have most wanted to see back.

    ReplyDelete
  56. The only season 8 person I wouldn't mind seeing back is Aaron with or without golem. He was funny. Kate should be the very last person anyone wants to see again because that would most likely mean that she has turned full on werewolf and the brothers will have to kill her, while lamenting in their guilt. No one wants to see that again, right?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Ha! So true. I remember some PiP's because they were great or the episode they were in was great. Portia and James (?) I will remember in the Cassie way - so terrible I cannot forget even though I want too.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I had to think hard to remember that Elliw was Trial and Error and I think, but am not sure, that Gilda was the fairy. The fact that they take so long to remember even after I have watched the episodes multiple times and written about them says everything that needs to be said about season 8 standalones. They are utterly forgettable except when they were horrible. Season 1 had several people that I remembered not only what episode they were in but also several scenes they made an impression in. That's how you do a standalone.

I'm not sure I can hate Crowley because he's Mark Sheppard, but he's not as deliciously evil these days. He's been more evil but in some ways he's been neutered of his personality and personality is what makes a villain truly great.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I don't think they can ever throw canon more out the window than they did with Taxi Driver. At least it is inconceivable to me at this point. They may yet succeed. I think the only way they can kill the canon of Sarah is if they make her be a monster from way back in Provenance. They can however kill the hopes fans have had about Sarah and that may indeed be worse.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I disagree about Dabb; I think he writes a very good Sam and has a little more difficulty with Dean but is improving.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Meg used to be mine. Unless Rachel Miner and the rewriting of the character in season five.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I'd like to have Missouri back too. I don't think she died.

    ReplyDelete
  63. You'd think they would have a closer eye on that stuff. Like moving it inside their big bunker or something. There is bound to be some useful stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  64. That is a great point. They should probably be moving Bobby's stashed books in their too and Grandpa Creepy's.

    ReplyDelete
  65. pinkphoenix198523 April 2013 at 07:33

Oh old meg and Nikki Alycox (whatever her name is) was just so awesome! I totally agree old meg was the best but I consider her to be my favorite demon

    ReplyDelete
  66. pinkphoenix198523 April 2013 at 07:35

Really? :D I just hope that they don't do anything to 'kill' her character both literally and metaphorically :P
