Scream - Ordered to Pilot by MTV

25 Apr 2013

At its upfront today, MTV is announcing a pilot order to a series adaptation of the hit horror film franchise Scream.

MTV is working on Scream with the films’ producer, the Weinsteins’ Dimension Films and former top MTV execs Tony DiSanto and Liz Gateley’s DiGa Vision, which is behind MTV’s Teen Wolf and new reality series Ke$ha: My Crazy Beautiful Life. The project originally landed at MTV almost a year ago, brought in by previous MTV programming head David Janollari. The pilot green light is suprising, given the fact that there is no specific concept or a writer for the adaptation yet. The network recently met with a number of potential writers but didn’t settle on an idea. Still, MTV has big plans for the project, announcing that the potential series already has been slated for a summer 2014 debut. Dimension is in discussions with the films’ original director Wes Craven to direct the pilot.

  2. I think I speak for everyone when I say *facepalm*

You can't touch Scream, they tried and did well in S2, failed in S3 and epically failed in S4 (which was shame since the original copycat/duplicate killing idea which was cut from editing was brilliant)

  3. For every "Awkward." there is bound to be "Scream" and "Ke$ha: My Crazy Beautiful Life" garbage, it's MTV!

  4. They turned an atrocious 80's Michael J Fox into the best YA series currently on the air and they have Awkward so I'll definitely remain open-minded about any and all MTV scripted series. Underemployed wasn't bad either but the ratings were so awful I knew it wouldn't come back so I stopped watching.

  5. Scream 2 and 4 and brilliant, not as good as Scream 1... its only Scream 3 that failed

  6. When I think of MTV and the horror genre, I don't think of Teen Wolf, I'm more keen to remember the great-but-cancelled Death Valley (12 episodes, 2011), a mockumentary following LAPD patrol officers in a city infested with zombies. It was original and funny, so of course no one watched it (airing it in the summer rather than in the fall like the did might have paid off, but what's done is done).

I love the Scream franchise overall. I watched the first three films for the first time in April 2011 (I had seen bits of Scream 2 on TV a while back, that was it), leading up to the release of the fourth one.

The first Scream is amazing, I quite like the second one, I hate the third one (despite some few good moments, like the intro) and as for the polarizing fourth one... I LOVED it, close to the first one imo. The satire of our media-driven society, the self-awareness of the story & characters, the references, the awesome cast (amazing newcomers as well as the return of Cox-Arquette-Campbell), the humor at full speed... I'll probably be the only one in this thread but I really enjoyed Scream 4.

I just wish the ending was different, with Emma Roberts truly winning and surviving this. Well, she got what she wanted, being seen by the public as a hero, but I think it'd have been a gutsy move to kill the whole original cast and have the bad girl be the only survivor. Oh, well, it doesn't tarnish a fun film.

I haven't seen Scre4m since the cinema release in 2011, but I think it'd hold up well to a rewatch, I'll do that soon. Liking Scream 4 isn't a popular opinion on the Internet apparently (although in my circle of acquaintances most people love it and rank it #2 of the franchise too), that's too bad.

If Kevin Williamson and Wes Craven are actively working on this TV adaptation, then I'll be highly interested. If not, then it'll just be another Scream copycat (this time very obvious, admittedly ^^).

  8. I actually like it.
I prefer this instead of a remake, reboot or sequel. Scream 4 was a perfect coda for the original trio. They need to rest.

  9. That said, I hope they won't remaking the first movie into Season 1.
Scream's plot and twist & turns are well known to the audience.

I hope this will be something new, based on the actual incidents... or it could be a Stab adaptation LOL

  11. Well, I hope they get it right, but I´m looking forward to it.
