An usual reminder: the article is created as a fun way to share with all of you our favorite moments of the week and to read about yours, maybe even to recommend someone a new show worth watching. And the poll is simply to see how many people out there also liked the same scene as you did. THIS IS NOT A CONTEST. THERE ARE NO WINNERS. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. We welcome relevant, respectful comments.
My choices this week are (in the alphabetical order):
1. Show: BROADCHURCH
Episode: 1.7
Date: April 15, 2013
Actors: David Tennant, Carolyn Pickles, Jonathan Bailey
The Scene: The truth about Sandbrook case
There’s a big chance you’ve never heard about this show, so a little introduction is in order. It’s a crime drama from UK. The series got only 8 episodes in total and is ending tomorrow. It’s basically a story of an investigation into the death of a little boy, set in a small town, with David Tennant playing the lead detective in the case. I have caught up with the show (very) recently and found it very interesting, engaging and generally well done.
The scene I’ve picked is a very important for the show’s main character, DI Hardy, who reveals the truth about his old case when the killer was released free after a DNA evidence was found to have been tampered with. It turns out that Alec Hardy took the blame for this, because the person actually responsible was his wife. And he didn’t want his daughter to know that her mom not only failed to do her job, but also had an affair which was the reason she lost the evidence in the first place. In this moment we get to really see what an honorable man our show’s hero is. And what I absolutely loved the most about the scene is, without a doubt, the performance by David Tennant. He’s easily one of my favorites, such a fantastic actor. And he played this part exactly right, especially the little moment when he’s SO close to breaking down, promising he hasn’t given up on his old case, and then he just pulls himself together quickly. Also, brilliant reactions from his co-stars, playing two reporters listening to his story.
I can’t tell you how great it is to see David Tennant back on my screen!
2. Show: GAME OF THRONES
Episode: “Walk Of Punishment”
Date: April 14, 2013
Actors: Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, Aidan Gillen, Charles Dance, Conleth Hill, Julian Glover
The Scene: The Game of Chairs
First of all, it’s just such a hilarious scene! Tyrion is the best. Just the comedy of the situation is enough to call this a great scene, but what I also like about it is how much it reflects everyone’s position and their attitudes towards each other. Lord Tywin Lannister, the most powerful, getting people’s attention and their allegiance. Cersei, like a queen, finding her place next to her mighty father. Then Littlefinger, Varys and Maester Pycelle, fighting to get as close to the power as they can. And then there’s Tyrion. He’s just done, doesn’t want or need his father’s approval and tries to distance himself from this man, but still decides to face him directly.
I know, most of the fans would probably choose Jaime’s scene at the end, but I just freaked out about it a bit (or a lot) and so much prefer this funny one.
3. Show: NIKITA
Episode: “Broken Home”
Date: April 19, 2013
Actors: Dillon Casey, Lyndsy Fonseca
The Scene: Sean’s death
Again, Nikita proves to be not only a great, full of action, twists and new ideas, but offers absolutely shocking turn of events. I just can’t believe Sean’s dead. Honestly, I was thinking it’s gonna be Sonia and was preparing myself for it and this scene left me completely surprised and heartbroken. Just thinking about all the potential this character had and Sean and Alex leaves you speechless. Great job by both the actors. Very emotional performances with the powerful lines. Dillion Casey and his character Sean, will surely be missed!
NOTE: The scene was also picked by Jamie Coudeville and Bradley Adams as Scene Of The Week!
"It wasn't until this moment that I realised how attached I had gotten to Sean. This scene just broke my heart."
“The first time that Nikita has made me cry. So emotional.”
Honorable Mention:
Hawaii Five 0, "Olelo Pa’a (The Promise)", April 15, 2013 – The Funeral

Episode: 1.7
Date: April 15, 2013

This was such cute moment. Plus Alexis the smurf was a nice bonus, it's been a while since I've laughed that hard.
The Vampire Diaries, “Pictures of You”, April 18, 2013, Actors: Paul Wesley, Candice Accola
The Scene: Stefan and Caroline dance
I'm starting to really like these two together. Caroline also shared my opinion when it comes to Elena: "Can't I just kill her?"
5. FROM JIMMY RYAN
The Following, “Havenport”, April 15, 2013, Actors: James Purefoy, Natalie Zea
The Scene: Claire makes a fake deal with Joe saying that he can have her if he gives up Joey, before stabbing him in the chest. Joe later calls Ryan in a drunken stupor, telling him it's time for Claire to die.
This is a terrific scene not only because of how well it was acted, but because it will definitely change the course of the show. Joe's next move will be interesting to watch.

Nikita :(((
ReplyDeleteNikita ( :'( ) and TVD!
ReplyDeleteTHE FOLLOWING - Joe Carroll losing his mind. Him being a psychopath and a killer and all... That was very interesting to watch, especially with James Purefoy's great acting and the threat to the ''leading lady''. ''Sadly, it is time for Claire to die.''
ReplyDeleteGAME OF THRONES - Jaime losing his hand. Just great, although ruined a bit by stupid spoiling book readers.
BATES MOTEL - Norma leaves Norman by the side of the road. Or rather the conversation before that. Norman was a normal teenager for 15 minutes, then he talked to his mother and he actually started feeling guilty for sleeping with a girl he liked. Watching her manipulate him so easily was fascinating in a really disturbing way.
I'm curious as to why the scene from Bones has so many votes and why people are voting for it? To me that scene was completely obvious and predictable just like the show has become in the last few seasons.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious why you would choose to comment on a show you don't watch. Those of us who still watch and love Bones really enjoyed the foreshadowing so sue us. Sheesh!!
ReplyDeleteNikita :_(
ReplyDeleteAs much as I'm disappointed by Sean's death as it feels his character was just wasted, that scene was beautifully acted by Lyndsy and Dillon and the music was gorgeous. Very emotional and well done.
ReplyDeleteThe scene with Claire and Joe in The Following was chilling to watch.
ReplyDeleteI've actually never missed an episode of Bones and been watching it since the pilot. I just think the quality of the show has gone down in recent seasons. When the show first started I could never figure out who the killer is but the last few seasons I've figured it out more times then been wrong about it. The second season episode where Bones and Hodgkins are buried alive in the car is I think the best episode of the series and one of the best written episodes of any series. I've never understood how David Boreanaz didn't get a Oscar nomination for Best Actor for that episode.
ReplyDeleteStill can't believe Sean is dead! I didn't even know that someone was going to die, so imagine what i felt! that Tyrion scene in Game of Thrones was my fav in the episode! and Caskett in bed was so cute! so for me, Nikita, GoT and Castle!
ReplyDeletePoint taken. You did ask why and I replied. Luckily for me I still love the show and couldn't imagine given your comment that you would waste your time. Peace :)
ReplyDeleteI do sort of agree with you. Sean's character wasn't meant to be a long-term one (apparently), so considering that, I think he was very well used. However, since they did continue on with him, I don't see why they killed him off, as it'd have been much nicer for them to actually make more out of the character.
ReplyDeleteWhat his death does do though, is sets things up nicely for more of Alex's emotional breakdown. Amanda wins there.
Didn't get min in on time! (It's been another crazy week for me)
ReplyDeleteI probably would have had GOT: Jamie protects Breianne and looses his hand! But GOT had a lot of good scenes this week! I also like the one Justyna picked! I also like the Hannibal one and the Bates Hotel picks... :)
At this point since I've invested 8 yearsof life into the series so I'm committed to seeing how the series will. It's the same thing with Supernatural. I think that show has gone down in quality since the end of season 5 but I'll keep watching cause I've invested so many years into it already. With Bones I loved the way season 5 ended with all of them splitting up and was screaming at my TV for Booth to kiss Bones goodbye. Then her becoming pregnant I thought was completely cliched and thought all of season 7 was a complete mess and saw Bones going on the run from a mile away. This current season is an improvement though.
ReplyDeletewhen Caroline goes to Klaus to ask him for a dress and he cant hold his chuckles and laughter. it was such a cute adorable scene. Caroline among all went to ask him for a prom dress. :')
ReplyDeleteNikita: Sean's death scene from after he made me laugh with the Monday night football comment to when Birkhoff, Nikita, and Michael are by his body and Birkhoff says Alex couldn't save him. But especially when Sean said he and Alex were where they first met and Alex kissed him and was crying. :(
ReplyDeleteSo heartbreaking, well acted, and the music was perfectly sad for the scene. The writers were so cruel to keep him so long only to kill him off. He and Alex were so good together. I cried for a long time after the episode as I watched fanvids like "Sean and Alex: Be Still" on youtube.
Beauty and the Beast: The Cat and Vincent subway scene at the end, Evan realizing Vincent is a person and good, and Evan's death. :(
The Vampire Diaries - The dance scene. I love Stefan's and Caroline's friendship. She's his new Lexi.
GoT and Hannibal.
ReplyDeleteYes, it was predictable, but it was still cute, at least in my opinion. That's why I loved it.
ReplyDeleteTo call Sean's death my "favorite" would be the worst possible way to describe it. I literally spent my Saturday morning crying my heart out, mourning his loss. He had so much potential not only with Alex, but also with Michael and as an individual character. I don't agree with the way he's gone (considering his lack of storyline this season, they could've easily killed him off or let him walk away from Division at the start of the season) but I do appreciate the wonderful acting by Dillon and Lyndsy. This scene left me utterly devastated.
ReplyDeleteThe Following - I loved the talk between Jacob and Emma "we're going to die soon"
ReplyDeleteStill can't believe Sean is dead! I didn't even know that someone was
ReplyDeletegoing to die, so imagine what i felt! that Tyrion scene in Game of
Thrones was my fav in the episode! and Caskett in bed was so cute! so
for me, Nikita, GoT and Castle!
Death scenes - Evan's on Beauty and the Beast and Sean's on Nikita. Both were heartbreaking and I really really hate to see the characters go. Someone needs to come up with a show that features CW dead characters.
ReplyDeleteI watch Bones but with not a lot of enthusiasm. No one to blame, but it's not the same show it was through Season 4.
ReplyDeleteThat Castle scene! :D
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion it was unnecessary. Alex will already feel bad enough considering she shot Ryan, many Division agents died in the shootouts and the gang will probably resent her for what she did. Having her lose Sean too was overkill, especially considering all the horrors she's already been through. Besides, we can't *really* blame her for starting the mutiny because we know Amanda messed with her to make her act so recklessly. (So I don't feel she needed to be "punished" like some do.)
ReplyDeleteI don't know how they're going to bring Alex back from this, they broke her in a way that's almost impossible to fix.
I agree with everything you said. I loved Sean, his love with Alex, and his friendship with Michael.
ReplyDeleteI liked that they had Michael look away at the end. I think my favorite scene they had together was the sparring scene they had earlier in episode 3 of this season- Sean teasing that Michael was already getting rusty and he wasn't even married yet, and Michael hitting whatever was in Sean's hand out of it.
I really want some mourning scenes/mentions next week, not just from Alex.
Evan kissing Cat goodbye and putting himself in a hail of bullets
ReplyDeleteCaskett pillow talk was adorable and Bones catched Booth's mom's bouquet was great foreshadowing. Yes, it was obvious that she was gonna catch it (when has the lead female NOT caught the bouquet in a situation like this?) but that doesn't mean that we should just brush it aside. I'm sure even Brennan might see it as a sign that she and Booth should get married.
ReplyDeleteBeauty and Beast "Heart of Darkness": 2 really: Evan's goodbye to Catherine (almost crying thinking about it) and the last scene with Catherine and Vincent on the subway (heartbreakingly sweet)
ReplyDeleteI hope there's a funeral scene although I'm not holding my breath. Michael, as a fellow Navy man, will want to pay his respects. And yes. Alex shouldn't be the only one to react to the death, they've all grown to care about Sean as a friend and teammate.
ReplyDeleteThe funeral scene in Hawaii five-0. That was a beautiful and emotional scene, and it was well written and well acted. Amazing! <3
ReplyDelete
