I knew it was Allison the moment I heard her voice. It's good that she's working while waiting for Syfy to stop it with their horrendously long hiatuses.
Wow, the end is just incredible. The case is just fine, but if you look closely, you see this is very important to understand the real problem with the machine and Finch mention the lost of Beecher, Schmansky and now the doctor proves ones for all, arc of the virus beguns.
Great episode! Finally seeing the scope of Fusco's past, Carter choosing her real side while agonizing over her choice, the arrival of the storm... etc. I also love how Elias has become the ultimate wild card in this season.
There's many reasons why POI is the fastest growing, and the fifth most popular series on TV at the moment, and the vast majority of those reasons were on display tonight. Excellent episode
Oh boy what was that ??? It was an amazing episode !!! The Dr.Nelson case was touching !!! The flashbacks of Fusco showed us how he ended as a dirty cop . But the end just blew my mind the Machine is offline guys what is gonna happen next ???
Bawled a lot during the Fusco moments, feel bad for the guy. Also wondering why Reese never really seems to help Fusco... Looking forward to root and shaw in the next ep!
Awesome episode. The person of interest this week was kind of meh.
But what the episode lacked in that aspect, made up for in some Fuscoe background as well as getting more Fuscoe material in general. I like newly reformed Fuscoe, and I hope he doesn't get screwed over. Figured Carter would save him, and glad Bear got some action (albeit off camera), but it was interesting and great to see her struggle with it, I'm sure it'll continue to toy with her.
Also, the machine shutting down. We've known it's been coming for a while now, but seeing it... I actually got chills.
A few LOST references: the name Richard, Cancer, and Radiation Poisoning (including nose bleeds)
Liked the 'eye for an eye' of this episode with Dr, Nelson getting back the investor.
But the best part was surely the ending from Fusco being forced to go to James Stills' burial site only for the body have been moved, to Reese's and Dr. Nelson's bittersweet final scene, to the machine really on the verge of not functioning right at all, and Carter's "I had a long night." and walking a muddy Bear through the Police Station, where just fantastic scenes!!!!!!
True, but it makes his character very similar to Reese's. Reese did dark things in service of the CIA despite the fact he knew he was crossing the line. Fusco crossed the line because of his loyalty to Stills and at first thought he was serving a higher purpose until he realized what kind of man Still's was. Both of them have some very dark demons in their past and both are seeking atonement.
Unlike Reese who has a superhero kinda mentality, Fusco is kinda this regular guy who's done horrible things that he deeply regrets now. It means his life will never be not complicated. But there's also something sympathetic about his character.
But like you said, really Fusco is no Reese in being able to have the skills or be in the position to better protect himself and if Reese and Finch get sidelined by Root and the disfunctionality of the machine, I could something going terribly wrong for our lovable Fusco!
I don't see Leon as anything more than comic relief. As for Shaw, she could be a great potentially recurring character and I still see her a possible spin-off but she doesn't have the background of Fusco, the rehabilitation of the average man.
Disagree. Simply because Leon IS the ONLY other comic relief outside of Fusco. (He could have gradually been written this way, because he could take Fusco's place as the new comic relief)
Additionally they can always add more and more back story to any character they please if need be, and ALL the characters, especially the main 4 all juxtaposed each other and all have things in common, like Carter has a military back ground for instance like Reese, and Finch and Carter have never unnecessarily killed anyone (to our knowledge) and have HIGH moral standards. Fusco and Finch aren't physically intimidating, Fusco and Carter are both single parents cops with son swhere Finch and Reese do not have any children of their own and have never been married, ect. All of them have issues with Authority and authoritative orders in relation to motivation and/or political agendas.
For Fusco to die would be a big blow to all of the characters because of the way he reflects them, especially Reese, who often takes him for granted. But also, because it would play out the arc of the failure of the machine.
I can easily see a sanario where Root gets a hold of Grace to blackmail Finch and Fusco somehow saves her, but dies in the process....
There was another LOST reference....the sound of the flashbacks !! Somebody must have noticed it...I've heard them at least once or twice in the past (whenever the flashbacks are not seen through the machine)
I agree, as I have said in other posts, I do worry that building Fusco's back story right towards the end of the season like this, doesn't mean anything, but I am worried...
And I agree about the machine. There's something about actually seeing it break down that is SO different and more alarming then knowing it probably is!
What an awesome episode! The case was more padding for the interesting stuff, though it did show us that they arrived too late for another number. The end for Cochran was poetic justice though.
The meat of the episode was Fusco, finally we got to see how he became dirty. It wasn't even on purpose, just helping a man who he thought of as his brother. It helps explain the initial resentment of Fusco towards Reese too.
The confession by Fusco, Carter's hesitance, Reese refusing to help Fusco again and finally discovering Carter does have her partner's back were some great scenes. The only one that does come off a bit as a hypocrite is Reese, who doesn't seem to care one bit about Fusco. While he is the one that killed Stills in the first place and left Fusco to clean up the mess. It makes him seem like a bit of a jerk. Perhaps is just though love for Fusco. I don't know.
And then the ending, the machine, who is a character in its self, shutting down. I literally got goosebumps.
I think this was one my favorite episodes of the season (and it has been an amazing season). The reason for that is that even though I have always loved Carter, Fusco was just meh for me and I regarded him mostly as comic relief. But I adoored his backstory and it totally changed my views on him. Loved Carter standing by him. The case was just ok I guess but I like the conclusion it had and that it led Finch and Reese to detect that something was wrong with the machine! Great episode really, very excited for the final episodes!
Good episode. Great to finally see some Fusco screentime. It had been lacking for quite a while. I don't really see where they can go with his character now, unless he just becomes a more full-time member of Team Machine. Otherwise I still fear his days are numbered.
I've been catching up on this season of POI. I liked this episode a lot. I was fascinated by the tragedy of John helping the doc get revenge for the doc's murder was well done. I liked Fusco facing his past, acknowledging and confessing to Carter about it, and verbally expressing how he's changed since meeting their "friends" and Carter. I also liked Carter's reaction to Fusco's confession and past, as well as the struggle to accept Fusco's "gray", and her ultimate complicity in helping Fusco. Unlike most of you, I don't like Shaw. She seems forced upon us, at least to me. She seems like the unstable version of John, just as Root is the unstable version of Harold. Maybe I'll like her better in later episodes. But this episode? I thought it was awesome!
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I kinda figured the Machine would finally shut down at the end of the episode, but I still thought the shutdown sequence was pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteGreat as usual. I am becoming very confident an episode will never be just okay for me. Always interesting.
ReplyDeleteI knew it was Allison the moment I heard her voice. It's good that she's working while waiting for Syfy to stop it with their horrendously long hiatuses.

ReplyDeleteAlso great moment for Fusco and Carter.
It made me miss the great Claudia Donovan all the more. BTW, if you're a W13 fan the season premiere is already online on the SyFy channel's website.

ReplyDeleteTrue Elias help a lot this pass episode and in this one too. Clever move of the writers.
ReplyDeleteBeyond words, another awesome episode...

Another really good episode!

Long Live Fusco, :) he is awesome & a very needed part of the Machine team.

ReplyDeleteYep another of several! XD
ReplyDeleteJeeze who down vote this!?

I would hate it to see my poll about Fusco come true. :(
ReplyDeleteMe too...
ReplyDeleteI'm holding out hope until the screen fades to black in two weeks. :P
