It kinda dragged out a bit too much for me, the Hood and Diggle stuff weren't as great as usual, can definately see the dark path Tommy's going down. The best bits for me were probably the end of the home invasion, flashbacks and the Thea/Roy scenes.
I'm really starting to indignant on Oliver's behalf. Lots of fools throwing fool logic at him.
Tommy: I don't get his break-up with Laurel. He's either doing some nonsensical martyr thing for Oliver, which makes no sense with the "you're a killer, I don't know you anymore" narrative - or he's just being dramatic about Oliver's admission. Oliver has never positioned himself as a threat to Laurel and Tommy, has only ever been the biggest supporter of that. It's one of my favorite things about the season, how they completely subverted the obvious love-triangle drama.
Diggle: I know I get myself in trouble when I question this non-existent bromance, but dear god, shut up Diggle. You're a grown ass man who lost your brother, he's a little kid who's mom got gunned down in front of him. No question which matter needed immediate resolving, especially with the police all over Deadshot too. If you want revenge so bad, why don't you find a way to kill Deadshot yourself. Why do you need Oliver to take the shot?
Roy: Warming up to him a lot.
Laurel: She's been more sympathetic the last few episodes, for sure. Feels like a little bit of the chill around her that iced her scenes up through the first half of the season is gone.
It's disappointing for me, that Shado and Oliver kissed. I've been shipping Shado and Slade since that sexy fight scene on the island. Oh god, why? I hope it changes in the next few episode or in the second season...
Actually I don't think he was worried about becoming more attached to her. I think he simply realized that since Laurel was in love with the Hood that it was only a matter of time before she found out the Hood was Oliver. I think it was more of his anger towards Oliver that made him break up with Laurel.
It is interesting though. Tommy is distancing himself from everything that Oliver's life touched because of the lie and because of what Oliver is now. The question is, how can he then accept a similar lie from his father?
From a writing stand point either possibility could be interesting. If he does find out about his father then we get to see him make a conscious choice about his own future. If he doesn't find out then there's going to be a Spiderman/Harry Osborn situation.
Detective Lance trying to talk some damn sense into Roy was surprisingly my favorite part of the episode. I think it was probably my favorite Det. Lance scene of the series.
That was a cool scene and I think both Paul and Willa acted well in that scene. I want to see Thea's reaction when she finds that was the work of her brother.
Eh, I disagree. It's either been directly mentioned or implied that Malcolm's wife was murdered in the Glades when trying to help which triggered Malcolm's whole transformation to the Dark Archer. It wouldn't make a lot of sense if he murdered his own wife.
I'm also very interested to see how Thea will respond to that information. I honestly have no idea how she'll react which makes it more interesting for me.
Well i'm not saying he killed her what if Malcolm pissed someone off and wanted to get revenge on him but instead decided to kill his wife. You know the saying eye for eye and most of the time we see when someone loses a love one they don't kill the person responsible for it but instead kill their loved one and make them feel the pain they felt. What if that's what got Tommy's mom killed
I don't think she'll find out before but I also don't think the secret can reasonably be kept from her for much longer after Roy finds out. There have been too many "keeping a secret identity from my loved ones" subplots as it is. I'm hoping Arrow won't be that repetitive.
Between what we've seen, the spoilers we have and the press releases, the Undertaking is clearly a plan to destroy the Glades so that they can be rebuilt properly. It's basically a repackaged version of Ra's Al Ghuls plan in Batman Begins.
Apparently we'll see a flashback soon where Malcolm tells Chen and The Queens what specifically happened to his wife. Probably random, particularly brutal street crime.
We'll see this flashback next week. I don't see it as a repackaged version of Ra's Al Ghuls plan in Batman Begins though, there are plenty of other shows\books\comics\etc. with similar ideas.
I think it's all about Tommy's insecurities. Bad timing on his part but it feels like he thought that his relationship with beautiful, smart Laurel was an aberration and he was just waiting for her to break up with him.
But as for Oliver's love life, this episode showed again why Felicity or Shado would be better for Oliver than Laurel. He doesn't feel that he can tell Laurel his secret, but he's very comfortable not only sharing it with Felicity but they have a relationship where they can be honest with each other.
Not to mention, when given a choice between Diggle and Laurel, he chose Laurel even though she was safe at the time, and four people died because of it. Lack of chemistry aside, Oliver/Laurel is a bad combination.
I enjoyed it a lot. I feel like the show has found its focus, which at some points earlier in the season was lacking a bit. Also, I know people complain, but I personally like the Laurel character very much. I also like Tommy. At the beggining, he was just there, but he really plays a great role in the show
We can't say that four people died because of Oliver choosing Laurel because we don't know how long it would've taken Oliver and Diggle to track Deadshot had Oliver was there. These four agents could've died even if Oliver were there on time.
I think that since episode 1.14, every episode has been good. Before that there were moments that annoyed me in most episodes, but since then, every episode has been good. Also, in this episode they finally had a compelling one-time villain and I hope they can keep this up next season (as we no longer have one-time villains this season, just Malcolm and his seismologist.)
I agree with most of this. I don't specifically remember what was 1x14 and whether I was liking the show better or not after it, but I agree that a problem with some of the episodes in the later part of the first half of the season was that the one-time villains were terribly not compelling. These ones were good.
This feels like home. This is the arrow that I love, especially because every character has his/her importance. From Laurel, to Tommy, to Speedy, to everyone in the show is utilized.
I thought this episode had one of the best fights of the season. Oliver and Blank fighting was a scene I could watch again and again and again.. I hope Diggle comes back soon and rejoins the Arrow team because I miss him already..
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

Tommy broke up with Laurel because he felt it was inevitable that she would break up with him. But overall he has been a brat.
ReplyDeleteIt's disappointing for me, that Shado and Oliver kissed. I've been shipping Shado and Slade since that sexy fight scene on the island. Oh god, why? I hope it changes in the next few episode or in the second season...
ReplyDeleteI loved this episode. I enjoyed the villian, and finally there were some Oliver and Laurel scenes.

ReplyDeleteBasically, yeah. Tommy let his own insecurities and that big chip on his shoulder sabotage his relationship.
ReplyDeleteDetective Lance trying to talk some damn sense into Roy was surprisingly my favorite part of the episode. I think it was probably my favorite Det. Lance scene of the series.
ReplyDeleteTommy's Mom death doesn't sit right with me i'm sensing Malcolm has some hand in it
ReplyDeleteWas nice to see J. August Richards again seeing as he was ass kicking on Angel but in this episode he was an assassin lol
ReplyDeletePeople know Oliver was stuck on that island. Being a rich kid he was in the media's eyes and he probably wasn't known as much of a fighter
ReplyDeleteThat was a cool scene and I think both Paul and Willa acted well in that scene. I want to see Thea's reaction when she finds that was the work of her brother.

ReplyDeleteLoved the answer to his question tho lol "You're bout to find out"

I wonder if she will find out before or after Roy because of the possibilty of her having both her brother and boyfriend lying to her

ReplyDeleteI agree, Shado is better with Slade. I don't why she'd want Island Oliver when Slade is right there.
ReplyDeleteHow many of them have been cited by the showrunners as chief inspirations for the show?

That's what I thought about:D.

ReplyDeleteAgreed, I think Tommy decided to break up with Laurel now before he becomes even more attached to her.
ReplyDeleteI think Shado will stay in the show for a while, she and Slade could start a relatioship next season or maybe even the season afterwards..
ReplyDeleteI thought this episode had one of the best fights of the season. Oliver and Blank fighting was a scene I could watch again and again and again..

This is why I hope Tommy finds out about his dad before the final battle. I want to see whose side Tommy chooses when he knows everything.
